Edmunds I like how you guys completely glossed over the fact that the Hyundai and Kia only handle well when there’s only one person in the car on a flat road. Load that car up with five adults and a bunch of luggage and a trailer behind it and it’s slow as molasses
Earlier this year my wife bought a Telluride, two weeks ago I bought a Silverado (needed a pickup) ... the Telluride still blows me away, we absolutely love that vehicle. It is smooth, upscale, quick, roomy, great fit and finish, looks great, great mpg, massive warranty, great price.... winner.
Damn Honda declined sending a review unit - it's going to be 5 years before a new platform from them catches back up. They dominated for so long then Kia/Hyundai changed the game.
What Kia/Hyundai have done is innovated and redefined this market. Subaru and Volkswagen have also created new vehicles that offer advantages that weren't available just a couple years ago.
Ford dominates the segment because the explorer is always the sales leader. Period. Ford sold 31,000 explorers in september. Compared to 6,000 for the palisade, this ain't even on America's radar, no matter how much journalists like it. Lol
@@PCSPITTER4NY did you notice that April, May, and June sales where each month Explorer sales were 8000 to 9000 fewer car sales than 2018 sale in these 3 months. Did you also notice no sales figures for July and August then suddenly 31000 for September? If that 31000 is July's, August's and September's sales figures combined, that would mean an average of fewer than 11000 sales for each month. That would be even less than 13000 average from April through June. Someone is biting into these lost Ford sales. If the Ford Explorer works for you buy it and you might get some great incentives as Ford has to fight to get back some of their lost sales this year. Based on all listed sales the Explorer sales figures are way down in 2019.
I bought the Kia. The Explorer was overpriced for what you get. The Hyundai is a nice vehicle and more luxury. The Kia won me over because of the extra 4 inches of space and the value of what you get.
I have a Telluride SXP too. The extra 3 cubic feet (15% more) and folding mirrors, as well as the exterior styling won me over compared to the Palisade. Both great vehicles though.
The Explorer ST is a superior vehicle. It will out handle, out accelerate, out tow, and brake shorter. Feels more planted and none of the front drive torque steer. Its seats are more comfortable, and it will outlast the KIA. Plus it looks better
@@ginsure aside from the worse warranty and missing features, not to mention the ugly and annoying vertical tablet pasted on the dash, the Explorer ST is like $8000 more than a loaded Telluride.
I dropped by a honda dealer to test drive a pilot. I told them I would test drive a telluride after the pilot, Boy! their attitude changed (became cold!) that they knew I would not choose a pilot after test driving a telluride.
Straight facts! For a first year production I was blown away! Waiting for true reliability testing and more improvements down the road for the telluride
I think the better response would be to come MORE warm and welcoming. Really play up Honda reliability and create an atmosphere that you would want to come back to for service for years to come. Sure their vehicle might not be up to specs, but the Pilot is still a very good choice, and if I have a good experience at the dealer, no telling what my final decision would be. Of course, if the Telluride is THAT much better a vehicle. Still, sounds like that salesmen needs an attitude adjustment!
I'm a Ford guy and have owned explorers and this video is embarassing. The team that designed the Ford's interior needs to be fired. Hats off to Edmunds for this indepth comparison video.
That really has been a constant ford problem. The drivetrains is solid but the transmission as always, and then they have a 10 cent interior while asking for more money than the competiton. Hackett garbage
Me too however after driving the ST I did find the seats very comfortable and the way it accellerates, drives and handles is great so I bought one. Could the interior look more upscale? Yes I agree but I would never buy a KIA or Hyundai.
@@RAM-KINGOFTRUCKS nice. we could really only afford the one new car payment with my girlfriend going back to school. Honda is falling behind in their SUV's. They fixed their Civics and Accords, but they are still late to the party for Android Auto and Apple Carplay. Their "pilot" has reached the end of it's life cycle and it severely outdated. They knew that their Korean friends would crush them and even Ford can stomp a pilot all day. Hopefully, Honda comes back next year with something fresh and new that can actually contend with the best, which is Korean SUV's right now made in America.
ginsure Agreed. I’ll never buy cheap Korean unoriginal products. Their engineering is poor and they aren’t special or the best in anything. Just very blah products that are plummeting in reliability. I don’t care for Ford but would take it or a Toyota Highlander over these Korean pos in a hurry.
-\ Zephyrus /- How’d you gather from my very detailed comment the only reason I prefer other companies is because of Hyundai being located in South Korea? I literally stated some of the reasons why such as inferior engineering, dependability, lack of great styling, originality and innovation. It has literally nothing to do with where the brand is located. The Chevrolet Tahoe is gorgeous inside and out especially in top trim. The features offered, refinement, capability, space, dependability and power are also a few pros of purchasing a new Premier trim Chevrolet Tahoe. The Chevrolet Tahoe will both effortlessly out-perform and out style a Hyundai Palisade for the same money. You’re delusional.
-\ Zephyrus /- You’re a brainwashed fool. How are they decreasing in reliability? Idk, you’d have to ask them why and how. But they definitely are decreasing. Perhaps all of those failing engines amongst other things are catching up with the Koreans. www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2019/02/top-10-most-dependable-automakers-of-2019-j-d-power.html How is their engineering poor? Lol. Well maybe it’s their self destructing engines that catch fire in brand new Hyundai products that’s the reason why, engines which were built in-house by Hyundai Motors btw which they’re under a class action lawsuit for. Maybe not the same money but not far from it and worth the difference in cash. A top of the line Tahoe Premier is $6k and GM is offering over $9,000 in discounts on a new 2019 Tahoe. A top of the line Palisade is nearing $50k itself and is much weaker, less capable vehicle. GM’s V8 engines are definitely refined and the same goes for their 10-speed auto transmission that’s in the Tahoe. You have internet access, do you use it for any other purpose other than being a brainwashed Hyundai/KIA fanboy impressed by their surface beauty? Apparently not. Bad materials? What “bad materials” are inside the Chevrolet Tahoe Premier? You mean the same plastics that are found in the less capable Hyundai? You’re a hypocrite and delusional Korean fanboy. Lol. You sound ridiculous.
-\ Zephyrus /- American cars break down a lot faster? So you have any proof of this bullshit? Which American cars have you owned that have broken down “much faster”?? The 2014 Chevrolet I purchased and owned was fantastic so I’m not sure what you’re talking about? You’re a brainwashed fanboy pulling things out of your ass. I’m not surprised, this is what Hyundai fans do. I’m surprised you haven’t mentioned their warranty yet. Lol
Unearned? Lol the explorer has been the best selling SUV of all time. Lol it's been sold every yr since 94. It's the only vehicle here that's earned anything.
Have you seen the awards the Telluride has already won? The new explorer is completely redesigned. Thus I don't care about its historic awards. Just like how I will not compare the new mustang to the old mustang.
brianroyal1 The Explorer’s success is a massive reason the 3 row suv segment came about in the first place. When you’re the best, you’re many things, but you’re not cheap.
Unearned Shame: Honda Pilot. It's a good product. It's not the best of the four, but it's certainly not as to justify declining the invite. Declining makes it look far worse than it really is.
Am I the only one that notices the Palisade grill always looks like it has two different designs when seen up close vs from afar? My personal preference, Palisade.
I really love the palisade and I think it's away better looking than all SUVs in its category and it really should be in the First place as the best not the Kia teloride .. I mean look how aggressive and sharp it looks and the smoothly console with many storage places up and down the console with the electric back seats folding in and the general feeling of the whole vehicle makes you know for sure that this vehicle is the best and got it all ..
You can't go wrong with the Palisade either. Definitely a great looking vehicle as well. Just a matter of personal preference between Palisade and Telluride.
We were looking at the Telluride because we liked the outside look over the Palisade, but we weren't willing to pay the $14K above MSRP that Kia was asking for... We went with a Palisade and don't regret it... Power 3rd row seats, reclining 3rd row seats, heated and cooled seats for the kids in the 2nd row (Telluride SX That we saw only had heated), paint matching fever "flares", and those rear windows give it a Ranger Rover/Aviator look (Telluride rear windows makes it look like a Pilot, blah)...
Sandeep Singh - So you bought the First year Telluride. I’m curious, any recalls or issues? I never buy the “first year of anything just because sometimes they don’t have all the kinks worked out yet and I’m honestly curious how Kia did with this introduction model.
@@polkmammoth1 I bought a 1st Telluride and so far no problems. Seems well built and with the warranty I am not worried about problems. I usually follow that 1st gen rule too but we needed a new car and we fell for the Kia's design and value for money. There was 1 recall for seatbelts. It only affected a small amount of vehicles. Mostly in the first few months of production.
@@fishkings423 leasing is not an option for me, I usually keep my cars at least 8 years. Plus with the miles I would put on it driving 114 miles round trip to work 5 days a week. I would get killed in price per mile.
Dreamliner Yep. Old Explorers were so much better than the trashy new ones. They were reliable and you still see 20-18 year old ones all the time. My mom owns and so far has almost 250k miles and still going strong.
I hope that since Toyota is taking so incredibly long to bring the 2020 Highlander to market they're still working to play catch up with the more advanced features that these new vehicles have brought to the 3-row market. I hope this has put Honda on notice too and they will really bring a more advanced new Pilot and not just a refresh of their older present Pilot. Since I'm having to wait till mid-2020 to even see the new Highlander, it will be great to see what Honda is going to offer in 2021; I hope it's transcendent, not just last year's model reshaped and repackaged with small improvements.
Toyota Honda Nissan, All Japanese cars are not good like before. I have 2019 Toyota Rav4 and 2018 Honda Pilot. Rav4 has problem with tailgate everyday and no power and I don’t like my Honda Pilot anymore. lol. I will sell them next year and I’ll buy Kia Telluride and Ford Bronco.
They knew they are going to lose, so they decided to just not participate. A Honda will never be cheaper than any Kia/Hyundai...And in the SUV market, it won't beat them in option as well. So the only thing going for them is reliability...Which takes 5 years to test.
We can disagreed on whether the Palisade or Telluride looks better, but we can all agree that the rear windows on the Palisade make the SUV more luxurious like a Aviator while the Telluride rear windows makes it look like a Pilot, blah...
I did quite a bit of research into the Kia Telluride. The information I read was quite impressive especially all the safety features. I went to my dealer to test drive this beautiful, impressive looking vehicle and ended up purchasing it. I've only owned it a couple weeks but I can tell you this, IT IS PROBABLY THE GREATEST SUV OUT THERE!! The ride is comfortable, the amenities are very abundant, lots of room and the design of the front console is very user friendly. To sum it all up, the price for this SX Prestige model gives you an awful lot of bang for the buck. Highly recommend!! I give it an ABSOLUTE 5-Star++++++++ rating!! GREAT JOB KIA! "Honda declined"...I'm not surprised. I have looked at and tested the Palisade, the Explorer and the Pilot (along with the Audi Q7, Volvo XC90 and Jaguar F-Pace in the luxury segment) and I can tell you that the Palisade and Explorer (and I suspect the Telluride as it is the same platform as the Palisade) ALL ATE THE PILOT FOR LUNCH! The Pilot, even at the elite trim level, cannot hold a candle to the Palisade in regards to trim, quality of materials, features, technology, spacial layout and over all appearance (appearance is simply my opinion). We have owned 2 Honda Odysseys (2008 and 2014) and I will tell you first hand that Honda is not what it used to be in terms of quality and value. Looking at the Pilot Elite, I saw cheap materials throughout, dated technology and features (it had the same DVD entertainment system that was in our 2014 Odyssey Elite). and a cramped feeling. At the Elite trim level, Honda still had way to many incandescent bulbs (even one is too many at that price point), analog gauges in the dash and just an overall feel of desperately needing a refresh/update. Driving the pilot felt like driving the minivan....totally uninspired. I know this segment is not a performance segment, but come on...we did not want to move from a minivan to an SUV to feel like we were back in a minivan. Honda is coasting on their previous reputation of reliability. And that is all it has. Even the MDX (Pilots luxury TWIN) is WAY behind the times....and still quite homely... So, I am definitely not surprised that Honda refused to step up to its competitors in this review, makes total sense once you have personally experienced all of these vehicles. BTW, we replaced the Odyssey Touring Elite with the 2020 Palisade Limited AWD...and man is it STEPS above Honda.... For reference, we also have a 2018 Mercedes-Benz E300 and a 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser 4X4, both of which were purchased new.
I agree with Honda still riding the reliability wave , and I think Hyundai / Kia knew that was going to be an issue early on . How do they compete with the infamous reliability? Oh 100K warranty !! It's like a personal challenge towards Honda , like ok you say you're reliable? Put your warranty where your mouth is let's go ! Hyundai is on top of their game . . I'm looking at the Kia telluride nightfall or explorer St .
I don’t know about the pilot but in a off-road test in driving sports the winner is the honda passport do way much better than Palisade and the telluride .
@@ablue5419 absolutely no car based cross over vehicle truly performs in real, challenging off-road situations and conditions. Even on sand, I have had to use my Toyota FJ Cruiser to help many crossovers, including Pilots (a lot of Pilots actually) get unstuck because they mistakenly thought their vehicle was capable to venture into “off-road” situations. All car bases crossovers are really just minivans with slightly higher centers of gravity and ground clearance.
Paul M - Lol, there’s a Explorer in my driveway. I get what your saying but people who buy Hyundai’s and Kia’s are looking for reliability and the best bang for their buck not 1/4 mile times.
@@paulm6481 go read the comparison reviews on C&D or Motortrend, the Explorer doesn't handle as well as you think it does. and I didn't buy it for drag racing, I bought it for the best value, reliability and safety for my family.
@@tylerhumpfer2493 congrats on your purchase. The Explorer is more my cup of tea, power and handling as long as you don't give up too much utility is a priority, but I understand why some would prefer the Telluride given its value and admittedly style. The Explorer looks the best to me, but the Telluride is very good looking for a FWD based SUV.
Explorer - To open the rear liftgate, you do NOT wave your foot left and right under the bumper like grandma trying to break her hip. Just kick your foot forward and back: page 76 of the Owner's Manual - "Moving your foot under and away from the center rear bumper in a single-kick motion."
You shouldn't have any problems for that short amount of time. What people fail to realize is time does more than mileage. Plastixs and seals degrade etc. I guarantee you buy a 20 year old car with only 10,000 miles your going to have more issues than a 3 year old car with 100,000 miles. Sounds like you do alot of traveling to rack up that kind of mileage.
I had an explorer, and yes it’s a great suv; but the price is way over inflated compared to what you get with Kia and Hyundai . American suv should be expensive for over seas , and not for Americans. After all, that’s why we buy South Korean, because it’s cheaper, and truthfully just as reliable as an American suv. American car companies should be loyal to their own, and stop passing the cost to us. I stopped being loyal a long time ago when these scumbags took Obama’s bail out, and still over charged us. South Korea is changing the game, and the big three can stick it up their ass.
@@ronaldnelsonjr.1359 I agree that the price in the Explorer is inflated ( we just got a 2021 Explorer limited). Once I said that. The driving experience is a lot better in the Explorer compare with the Koreans. The Explorer is a rear wheel drive, a lot more responsive, faster, better vehicle overall. That’s why is more expensive...
Problem with the Pallisade is the Kia offers more features and nicer interior for a lower price. For example you have to spend like $5k more for a Palisade with leather vs a Telluride with leather.
I own a Ford Explorer and the wife has a telluride… it’s all fun and games until I nail the throttle and she has to explain how much bigger her third row is lol
I watched this video 2 days ago. And yesterday I went to test drive the Kia Telluride. Purchased the EX trim premium package the same day. I was on the fence about what SUV I should get. This video was so helpful and detailed. Keep up the great content!
I was the 1st person at the dealer to pick up my 2020 Telluride and I have not been disappointed in any area. As they stated it is smooth, quiet and comfortable with plenty of power not to mention so many safety features and so many standards including such as leather seats. I drove from Michigan to Chicago, Niagra Falls then to Florida and it was so enjoyable to drive. I then went back to Michigan after setting up my own towing package with a 7 pin wire harness and wireless brake controller and hauled my 5000 lb camper down to Florida. I can assure you it pulled the camper with ease and can accelerate and gain speed in the mountain areas. The only issue was sway if you got up to 70mph with high winds but keeping it at 60mph with the winds it was fine. Soooooo happy with the vehicle and this comes from a 30 year Toyota employee who has owned and driven many Toyota trucks and SUV's over my career.
Love our Palisade... Heated and cooled seats for the kids in the second row and electric third row seats... That's a win over Explorer and Telluride...
Oddly enough for this review my wife and I test all three multiple times. And in all actuality we were actually in the market to buy the explorer. However after all was said done after driving all three multiple times we settled on the palisade. My wife enjoyed the comfort of the palisade over the telluride and the price point for the explorer was ridiculous in comparison. Telluride felt tighter and more confined to us and the palisade felt roomier. And although telluride is extremely popular we really didn't like the knock off Range Rover look and the boxiness of it. All three are good vehicles but my wife was more into the Hyundai palisade. It has been the best and most favorite vehicle she's ever owned so far. I would say this though the neighbors four houses down also bought the palisade because it was primarily going to be the wife's vehicle. I do kind of have a thought although not proven that males tend to prefer the telluride and a lot of the ladies like the palisade. Once again no facts to stand behind that but kind of seems that way it is.
I think folks are neglecting the S of SUV. The basic premise that gets lost here is Sport = fun, exciting, performance. I think comfort, tech, and big performance is what Ford was shooting for. The ST is the choice and very few cars compare under $80k. Yes you can haul people cargo and trailers but when on the road driving to work every day the Ford is certainly more fun and confident. All these picks are second to larger 3rd row vehicles and minivans if you care to stretch your legs, haul a bunch of suitcases and kids. A team in Florida has the ST running sub 5 second 60s and impressive quarter mile runs. I don't see anyone taking either of those imports to a track or strip. For goodness sake, the Ford ST comes with a track day experience package. Just my thought...
Alan Bowers Ford and FCA offer a higher horsepower motor. I think they are saving that motor for the Genesis. Making it exclusively for the genesis you have to spend more money
I just bought a 2020 Ford Explorer ST, used, for about $50k. I was cross shopping with the Telluride, Palisade, and Jeep Grand Cherokee L. I know when purchasing the Explorer ST, I was giving up quite a bit of refinement and especially interior quality. But, and this is a huge but, there are large limitations with the Telluride / Palisade driveline. Watch Driving Sports TV's excellent reviews for reference. They put money where they thought most people would notice, on the interior and refinement. Quite frankly, the Ford engine and trans (twin turbo V6 with 10 spd) just outright smokes anything in this segment. The ST accelerates and brakes about as hard as my stock C5 corvette for reference. And it's fun to drive. By comparison, Jeep does excellent awd / 4wd systems better than anything in the segment. If you want to go off road there is really only one choice. BUT, it's engines are too old. I have compared my ST against my brother's WK2 GC 3.6L V6 pretty well. I get better fuel economy while towing the exact same trailer as he does, yet have significantly more power/ torque and performance than the base hemi. Something to keep in mind. Buy a vehicle which is good at what you'll be using it for. I wanted a tough workhorse vehicle which could tow and be fun to drive and that's exactly what I got. Although an enthusiast and I've watched tons of reviews, in this case the Palisade and Telluride were not best for me. And I could easily tolerate the ST's negatives given it's huge positives. Hope that helps.
They must have never tested any other Ford vehicles with the hands-free liftgate feature. It has always been a kick directly under the vehicle (and, with a hitch, then just kick straight under just to the left or right of the hitch). None of this swiping nonsense.
You guys do some of the most comprehensive comparison tests out there, especially SUVs/trucks. If I am in the market for a vehicle and cant decide I'd definitely watch your videos before the test drives for sure.
This was a very balanced review and people have to decide for themselves what each vehicle offers and which SUV works best for them and their driving needs
We test drove a Palisade, Traverse, and Explorer today. We purchased the Explorer and love it. The palisade was really nice but missing navigation and leather for $42,000 with no rebates. Traverse RS had great features like Bose sound system and only $40,000 but felt cheap and bland. The Explorer had everything we wanted leather, nav, 20” wheels, and more and was only $39,000. Very happy no regrets.

Ford outsold both of them last month by more than 20,000 explorers. That says a lot. Regardless of how car journalists feel, the explorer always was and is the benchmark. Just like the f150 and the mustang, that top seller is always the benchmark because mostly everything else is an opinion.
PB&J Racing • 13 years ago It really is, not only is it the benchmark, I helped start this SUV segment. I would even call the Hyundai and KIA an SUV, aren't they FWD biased, and based on cars? The Explorer isn't.
Mamo Kia SUVs are the worst depreciating vehicles in the segment. Also the Ford Explorer is the same price as the Kia tell you ride with similar options.
rainmakr20 My coworker went to a Kia dealer and they ONLY had the higher leather trims on hand. And we’re asking OVER MSRP for them. And said they refused to get more delivered to keep the price up.
Anything you purchase new and drive off the log with depreciate a massive amount, almost immediately, no matter what vehicle it is. Yes, you’ll lose more because you spent more, but it won’t depreciate any more or quicker than the other two. My pick? Explorer ST.
I drive a 2018 platinum explorer, and these new Kia/Hyundai has lifted up the game. Though I wouldn’t switch, it feels sad Ford missed several opportunities to excel, with the new platform. Absolutely missed it.
Getting our Telluride in a couple weeks. We are in love! We went to upgrade our Sorento model...and walked away so happily with the Telluride. Kia is killin it!! And the old school Kia shift stick is bomb. So fun to shift those gears driving winding roads without stomping on the break.
Thanks for the comparison. I think all three are great, but my pick would be the Kia Telluride. The Hyundai Palisade is nice but the exterior styling knocks it down below the Kia.
@@alliejr Could be - I would have to see one in person to see if that is the case. It's not ugly or anything, but the front looks to rounded for me. Sure I will see one on the road soon.

A friend of mine has a fully loaded 2018 Explorer Limited, great family mover. Another friend just picked a 2020 Kia Telluride and let me drive it - I was blown away by the craftsmanship of the interior all the packed tech and how it drove. All that for easily $10k less than a comparable Explorer. The Telluride is tops in the class right now.
I was searching for a SUV and I went to test these three myself.. The power and the grit of the Ford is what I liked better than the other two cars. The night riding was better as well. I didn't feel that I lost much when I let the third row down. My kids have their own cars so that doesn't bother me. However, I like the screen better than all of them with GPS and the Android arrangement better looking. Also the adaptive headlights were a game changer. Oh yeah the seat massager in the Ford took it over the top. I bought the King Ranch Explorer. Love it!!! The KIA looks like the old Explorer to me.
Palisade in my garage. We just took a 300 mile trip and found a the ride very smooth and quiet. The all digital dash with side view cameras in the tach and speedometer positions displaying the blind spots were a little awkward at first but with some getting used to were really nice. The seats were very comfortable with plenty of adjustment. The push button gearing was nice to and I thought decluttered the console area. Comparably, the price was right. We love it.
Both the Hyundai and the Kia are weak on the power side. The explorer prioritizes the driver and the driving experience. I've test driven all three, sat in all three of them from first to third row, and my findings were completely opposite of yours.

At least where I live, I see substantially more Platinum trims than XLT or Limited. Even in the Expedition it’s mostly Platinum trims.
Honda is not the least bit worried about KIA or Hyundai, there comparing 2 vehicles to an 5yr old Honda that still came in the top 5. When the 2021 Honda Pilot and Acura MDX come out, lets talk.
2001COUPE honda said, ill guve them a chance i dont want to make them look like a fool after i been around for a while. Thise two koreans cara are trash! Ford not as much i do like the fact its rwd wish the pilot Was

FYI- THE HAND FREE LIFT GATE HAS ALWAYS WORKED FOR ME 99% OF THE TIME WHEN YOU DO IT THE WAY YOUR SUPPOSED TO. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS KICK YOUR FOOT UNDER THE REAR BUMPER, MORE THAN LIKELY CENTER REAR BUMPER. AS AN AUTO REVIEW YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT, WHY WOULD YOU HAVE TO DANCE YOUR FOOT UNDER THE BUMPER-DOESN’T MAKE SENSE.
You never mentioned in your final remarks whats most important, especially at these price points. The difference in warranty between Ford and the Hyundai/ Kia. Ford can't beat the Hyundai / Kia warranty unless you purchase the extended warranty for thousands more.

I would pick Telluride as the clear winner but Palisade is a close second That’s not surprising since they are both using the same engine and drivetrain. Their level of safety, luxury, and tech , put them in the luxury suv class The Explorer is a respectable family hauler but looks a bit plain compared to the styling and luxury of the other two. Motor Trend awarded Telluride as suv of the year so it’s clear they also agree Telluride is best. It was also chosen as Texas off readers suv of the year. My friends call mine a luxury limo with suv capabilities
The only version of the 2021 Explorer that really appealed to me was the ST, which I got for $56,080 sticker price & gives you 415 FT-LBS of torque, 21" black wheels and larger brakes, and nearly all the premium features . (Vertical screen is extra so I skipped that). If such a product was not available, I think I would get a used Sienna and be bored but save money. All these 260 ft-lb front wheel drive machines are just minivans in my view, but that's kind of what makes them great. The Kia is straight up amazing bang for buck and if you just want to get the job done, don't care about "vroom vroom" as my kids call it, there's almost no reason to get the Ford. It's nice they cut the price but the Ford is still only worth it if you want that ST perfoemance imho.
Thank you guys! After watching your video i was clear with all my doubts and confusion. Now finally I have brought in the New Kia Telluride sx. Good work and keep going.👍
Between the Palisade and the Telluride, I'd choose the Telluride simply because I HATE vehicles with the headlights down low in a seperate pod like it's an afterthought.
I don't want to own one, but I want everyone else to - reason being, by lowering the headlamp cluster, they produce less glare for us non-suv peasants. Simply aiming them down reduces range, and still doesn't reduce the glare at short distances, but lowering the lights allows them to have their cake and eat it too, and it doesn't blind me in my lowered sedan as much.
What matters most to you in a three-row SUV; power, towing capability, comfort, price?
Interior room/comfort, mpg, price, tech and styling.

I like how you guys completely glossed over the fact that the Hyundai and Kia only handle well when there’s only one person in the car on a flat road. Load that car up with five adults and a bunch of luggage and a trailer behind it and it’s slow as molasses
Steel bumpers. With distractors more distracted now and more traffic, I'll pay for mpg if it means less crumble plastics.
Earlier this year my wife bought a Telluride, two weeks ago I bought a Silverado (needed a pickup) ... the Telluride still blows me away, we absolutely love that vehicle. It is smooth, upscale, quick, roomy, great fit and finish, looks great, great mpg, massive warranty, great price.... winner.
Love the Kia. Car an driver called the Silverado a 70k kick in the nuts.

Any updates on the Telluride?
Damn Honda declined sending a review unit - it's going to be 5 years before a new platform from them catches back up. They dominated for so long then Kia/Hyundai changed the game.
good point
Hyundai looks better than kia
Just bought a Telluride S and it is by far the nicest car I have ever owned. My other car is a 2004 Yukon XL Denali.
I bought the Kia. The Explorer was overpriced for what you get. The Hyundai is a nice vehicle and more luxury. The Kia won me over because of the extra 4 inches of space and the value of what you get.
so envious of you.
I have a Telluride SXP too. The extra 3 cubic feet (15% more) and folding mirrors, as well as the exterior styling won me over compared to the Palisade. Both great vehicles though.
@@RealElectech totally agree. I bought a nicely optioned EX trim. Very happy with it so far.
So were they right ??? Lol whatd you choose ??
same same..... experience... dude........ also just the fact that kids dont fight over USB chargers at Telluaride
Honda was not happy 😂😂
I'm a Ford guy and have owned explorers and this video is embarassing. The team that designed the Ford's interior needs to be fired. Hats off to Edmunds for this indepth comparison video.
That really has been a constant ford problem. The drivetrains is solid but the transmission as always, and then they have a 10 cent interior while asking for more money than the competiton. Hackett garbage
I actually like the Ford interior best. Test drove all three.
Me too however after driving the ST I did find the seats very comfortable and the way it accellerates, drives and handles is great so I bought one. Could the interior look more upscale? Yes I agree but I would never buy a KIA or Hyundai.

Honda is falling behind in their SUV's. They fixed their Civics and Accords, but they are still late to the party for Android Auto and Apple Carplay. Their "pilot" has reached the end of it's life cycle and it severely outdated. They knew that their Korean friends would crush them and even Ford can stomp a pilot all day. ginsure Agreed.
Perhaps all of those failing engines amongst other things are catching up with the Koreans.
www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2019/02/top-10-most-dependable-automakers-of-2019-j-d-power.html
How is their engineering poor?
Hyundai palisade white looks smashing!!
Yup... That's what we're driving... That 3rd window profile on the Palisade makes it look like a Aviator while the Telluride looks like a Pilot...

Everyone talking crap about the Explorer but I got one 3 weeks ago and it’s working very smoothly
Completely agree Brother. The 2 Korean is not an SUV at all, its a MiniVan pretending to be an SUV..
Palisade! ❤
The Koreans need to add turbocharger. They could do the Genesis 3.3 bi turbo 365 hp engine. Would be phenomenal.
mansees need is a strong word.
Alan Bowers Ford and FCA offer a higher horsepower motor. I think they are saving that motor for the Genesis. Making it exclusively for the genesis you have to spend more money
Genesis GV80.
@@devinbender8428 that would be my guess to that its saved for the upcoming RWD Genesis 3 row CUV.
They don't need it. The engine is perfect for what they are. Wait for Kia to release an upcoming Truck with their V8.
I purchased a Telluride last year. We love it. People stop me and ask how we like it. Best part is that it’s assembled in Georgia USA
Same here, It is the best in its class!
I want a Telluride to replace our Sorento SUV. However, we won’t give up our 2006 Ford Mustang Convertible 👍
There is no need to swipe your foot under the Explorer to open the rear door. Just kick under it, works really well.
They must have never tested any other Ford vehicles with the hands-free liftgate feature. It has always been a kick directly under the vehicle (and, with a hitch, then just kick straight under just to the left or right of the hitch). None of this swiping nonsense.
The popularity of the Kia and Hyundai set a $10k+ price over sticker
Getting the Palisade 😩❤👌🏾
Ever since I reviewed the Telluride, I've literally cried every time I saw an SX in dealership lots because I was so impressed that I am seriously fighting my hand from reaching into my wallet and pulling out $48,000!!!!!

Just test drove the Explorer Limited at my local dealer 45,000! Put your wallet away and drive to a ford dealer
@@devinbender8428 I won't touch a Ford. Kia has more trims than options so it’s more like

The FWD 6spd auto from 2006-2017 are absolutely JUNK! Agreed 100% but the new FWD 8speed and rwd 10spd are a tank. Engineers and reviewers agree.
@@devinbender8428 I still wont touch a Ford no matter if there was just a "problem". I fear for my mother's safety every single time she drives that car that she'll step on the gas and be rear ended because the car wont move forward but revs to redline.

After watching this video, I honestly started thinking this is how all reviews should be. This doesnt look like a review but opinions of 3 different people and the views but all topics are covered, either be its positives or negatives. Well done fellas.
Sorry Ford and Honda, step out of the way and make room for the new 3 row champion, the Telluride!
Ford outsold both of them last month by more than 20,000 explorers. That says a lot. Regardless of how car journalists feel, the explorer always was and is the benchmark. Just like the f150 and the mustang, that top seller is always the benchmark because mostly everything else is an opinion.
@@PCSPITTER4NY the explorer isn't the benchmark anymore. It isn't the best selling either.
PB&J Racing • 13 years ago It really is, not only is it the benchmark, I helped start this SUV segment. I would even call the Hyundai and KIA an SUV, aren't they FWD biased, and based on cars? The Explorer isn't.
@@pbjracing14yearsago49 the explorer is the top selling 3 row suv. And without it, there would be no telluride.
@@damariuseaton6678 kia and Hyundai have awd options
The Explorer is crazy expensive. Plus, it will no doubt depreciate a massive amount pretty quickly too.
Mamo Kia SUVs are the worst depreciating vehicles in the segment.
Also the Ford Explorer is the same price as the Kia tell you ride with similar options.
@@devinbender8428 lol, tell you ride
@@devinbender8428 Asking 5k over MSRP for the KIA or Hyundai made my choice easy. Explorer ST.
rainmakr20
My coworker went to a Kia dealer and they ONLY had the higher leather trims on hand.
I wish there were road performance tests. That is very important to some of us.
Smarticus they didn’t do that because then ford would MURDER THEM
Tried all of em. Bought the Platinum Explorer. Mostly for his driving experience. Way more fun to drive than the other 2s.
Agree on the Hyundai looking a little roundy on the exterior.
@@Joseph-du8ws The Hyundai is the kind of car that looks 100x better in person than in a video or in a photo.
@@alliejr Could be - I would have to see one in person to see if that is the case. It's not ugly or anything, but the front looks to rounded for me. Sure I will see one on the road soon.
the Palisade looks way better in person and the look really grows on you. we started off looking at the Telluride but ended up in the Palisade, now we think it's the Telluride that looks weird.
@@alliejr you are 100% correct! I was completely turned off by it's exterior until O saw it in person. Very nice looking car in person.
Cause Honda new they were going to lose badly
I wish every UA-cam car journalist was like this. Valuable subjective options, not just reading off a spec sheet
Love it!!! The KIA looks like the old Explorer to me.
totally agree, enjoy your Explorer
Palisade in my garage. We just took a 300 mile trip and found a the ride very smooth and quiet. The all digital dash with side view cameras in the tach and speedometer positions displaying the blind spots were a little awkward at first but with some getting used to were really nice. The seats were very comfortable with plenty of adjustment. The push button gearing was nice to and I thought decluttered the console area. Comparably, the price was right. We love it.
Palisade in my garage. We love it.
Both the Hyundai and the Kia are weak on the power side. The explorer prioritizes the driver and the driving experience. I've test driven all three, sat in all three of them from first to third row, and my findings were completely opposite of yours.
Whole review felt biased.
24:35 Kia and Hyundai take the cake.
It’s a shame the Toyota Highlander, Subaru Ascent, Honda Pilot, and Nissan Pathfinder weren’t included.
Why? The Subaru Ascent is the only one that can stand a chance but it can't compete with KIA or Hyundai. Japan is falling behind.

In what way? They rule the roost at the top of most reliable cars on Earth.
Looking at Consumer Reports for 2020, the Hyundai's and Kia vehicles are ranked 7 and 9 overall. Korean cars start to fall apart as they age. And they start looking their age. They also are not on the highest resale value. When people buy a used car they choose Japanese, not Korean. Japanese auto makers are at the top. Example, Mazdas ranked number #4. A Mazda CX-9 is the most reliable vehicle of all 3-row SUVs according to Consumer reports. Check it out!
@@crk58241 not since 2015, the only Japanese brands known for reliability are Honda and Toyota, Mitsubishi and Nissan are worse than normal for reliability. I drove them all and bought the Explorer ST. Its a superior vehicle in every sense. You can have the Koreans under rpowered front drive SUV. Load them up and they are real dogs.
I bought the 2020 Explorer XLT 😊 It’s no slouch on the road and its interior is beautiful yet simple. But it also looks the part: what closed me on it is the unmistakeable tough, sporty look it has, especially with the flat nose and grille. It’s no soccer mom minivan posing as an SUV.

Honda was like, “we can risk coming in 3rd or 4th” behind a Hyundai and Kia. 😂
I think y’all are mistaken when you said people won’t buy the Platinum trim of the Explorer. At least where I live, I see substantially more Platinum trims than XLT or Limited. Even in the Expedition it’s mostly Platinum trims.

I ordered my Kia last Saturday and cant wait for it to show up! The demand is super high and I know why.
My neighbor just bought a Telluride. It's a fantastic car. I'm thinking of getting one myself. Thanks for this review!
You don't swipe your foot side to side to open the hatch. You kick forward. Just once does the trick.
Yay for Kia! I have Stinger GT2 AWD and I absolutely love it. Kia is the shit!
Great choice I am jealous.
