Sultans of Swing is a song by British rock band Dire Straits from their eponymous debut album, which band frontman Mark Knopfler wrote and composed. Although it was first released in 1978, it was its 1979 re-release that caused it to become a hit in both the UK and U.S.
The song was recorded at Pathway Studios, North London, in July 1977 and quickly acquired a following after it was put on rotation at Radio London. Its popularity soon reached record executives, and Dire Straits were offered a contract with Phonogram Records. The song was then re-recorded in February 1978 at Basing Street Studios for the band's debut album. The record company wanted a less-polished rock sound for the radio, so an alternative version was recorded at Pathway Studios in April 1978 and released as the single in some countries including the United Kingdom and Germany.

The whole band on one instrument, I've played the guitar for a number of years (acoustic) and i think it is definitely a window to the sole. Love that song, use to hear it on the Friday night Rock show on the radio back in the early 80,s

I love fingerstyle guitar... it's incredible just how much sound you can get out of 10 fingers and an acoustic guitar. Bass, percussion, rhythm, and beautiful melodies plucked out underneath it all. It sounds fantastic man, great cover! Your guitar sounds beautiful.

wow Kansas, cool man, Dorothy, Toto, the TinMan, and the WIZARD of GUITAR, some play guitar, and some are guitar, Mark Knopfler was the first REAL inspiration as far as guitar. Brothers at Arms, was a pivotal point with me. His style reminded me alot of Roger Waters, Amused to Death, and Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking. Ive never been able to keep time and and oh, how do you spell rythm?

once again covering all stops, sound and all, in great cover of the original with your moves and style. honoring the song equally with your tricks inlaid. f'in great. when I discovered your Floyd "shine" I remember mentioning knopfler, as one of my favorite finger pickers, and days later this came via youtube. Sultans is a go to for me, stripped down to chords, but always easy singing.

Yeah man, from one player to another, continue putting out amazing re-imagined songs like this... battle out all the shit that were forced to hear, driven by record contracts forced music. Oh, don't get me started there, American idol, got talent and all of the rest. So much better talent if you really look, just look at the great street performers.
