😂son unos monstruos!
LOL
🤣🤣🤣You are the master of understatement.
Probably watched this 30 or 40 times.. Never gets old.
Found this going down a musical rabbit hole, just now. Great cover of this tune. That bass note drop at the 4:00 mark rattled my core.
Tommy improvising that solo @ 2:48 with his eyes closed amazing
Well it been about 60 times now. Still one of greatest live covers ever.
@@willb6442 I agree. Probably the best live improv ever..He’s utterly amazing.
I couldn’t agree more! Love this this version of probably my most favourite song of all time
You could sure tell they are having fun playing together.
Can we all appreciate the bass guy, he is killing it
"INDEED"give credit where credit is due ! ! 💋
And the drummer / percussionist.
A free form jazz odyssey in front of a festival crowd?
Eso mismo! Y el bajista?! Ni siquiera lo enfocaron una sola vez y es un hacha el tipo, parece un metrónomo.
Hell yeah!!!
Mind Blowing
How many of you have seen it several times ?
Multiple times
Yash G 8 times
@@simonth9626 Tooooo many times....
Hundreds cant get enough of it.
Many many times.. 👏👏
Hey, who are here, December 2019? Tommy is the best acoustic guitar player ever!!!
Hi Roman. I'm here on December 26, 2019. Tommy's pretty special but naming the "best ever" is a tough call. So many fab guitarists over so many decades, picking just one ... I admit I'm old but I couldn't pick just one! xx
I might cite mr Steve Vai close to original: Tommy Emmanuel is not the future of guitar playing because even in the future I don't think people are going to be able to play like him.
I'm here January 1st 2020
Here January 2021... Mark Knopfler remains the Sultan of all sultans of swing 😉
When it’s my time to go, I want to go, wherever it is, listening to this song and this version…
This is a truly stunning interpretation of Mark Knopfler's masterpiece.
Who would love to see Mr. Knopfler fitting something in here?
Definitely I would ;one of my favorite guitarists....
that will be epic
Well,he did write it.Must count for something!
Mr. K was the fourth man in the fire here, since he wrote the song.
'Step right up to the microphne'
One thing that has always deeply impressed me about Tommy Emanuel is his total egoless appreciation of other musicians so evolved and mature. Very, very, very few musicians are that secure in themselves
He seeks them out like a Greek language Scholar seeks compatriots to share and savor the nuance of the language with .. Purely for the joy of the experience..
He implies ideas are best shared.
@@Divocwax lest they be of no purpose..
Yeah, and he's the big swingin' d!@k in the locker room. He's an amazing ambassador for the art of music. Does meet and greets before shows. Brings kids up on stage to play often. I think he's officially Billy String's uncle now. Great all around guy.
could not agrer more,bro
This is about the 110,000th time I have listened to this. Admittedly, it's now starting to wear somewhat thin.
This video never fails to impress me - Pedro is definitely in the driver's seat - he sets the tone and the meter. Tommy kicks in with some rhythm, John kicks in with a beautifully light instrumental, after that, Pedro and Tommy take turns with the lead, and then all three join in with a powerful rhythm to finish the song. It is interesting to note that Pedro is actually communicating visually with Tommy - they evidently have some sort of system - it appears to be almost telepathic. Any any rate, the musicians quickly pick up on each other's cues. This is the mark of a true musician. This is the definitive version of Sultans of Swing. Thanks!
But that Tommy's lead... He made his guitar give it's best. Magic.
I feel sorry saying so, but I do not like the way Pedro plays.
@@mailander2911 Well, I can't say that I don't like the way Pedro plays; he is a master of his craft. But I do get a very different sense from Tommy and JJ in the way they view their contributions to the whole. Maybe that's because I know them; I don't know Pedro. I do know that Tommy and JJ are always mindful of supporting their co-performers, and that's very evident in this masterpiece.
С моим английским языком, я понял, что с Вами я не согласен! но возражать не буду!
Pedro is from Spain, John is from USA, Tommy is from Australia
this masterpiece rendition is a marvelous proof for "The only best language in the world is music" :D
oh... let's not forget about the excellent bassist and percussionist from Pedro Trio Band :D
Amen! (to both of your statements!)
Wagmore Barkless
your comment is wonderful, but i just have to say that both australia and america speak english
Thanh Huynh YESSSSS!!!! =)
The bassist deserves some love as well. Sounds awesome!
haha
brett neuberger tommy probably is doing that too😂

Baller Simpson : I don’t think this is from Pedro ?? Do you.
It’s magic when the players really get into it. The smiles on their faces and the pure energy and enjoyment- PRICELESS ‼️ Outstanding performance ‼️☮️
It's really the best thing about playing music... the timeless grooves you share with your bandmates and audience. There's just nothing in the world like that.
10 years ago but, how fucken good was this!!!!
I have watched this possibly 100 times. I am a bedroom vanity guitar player. Been playing for 50 years but I am not talented. So for me I just love the masters at work. I think that in order to appreciate genius you have to understand what players like this are doing. They are doing it.
Agreed. Guitarist to guitarist actually see/know/feel what’s happening even if they can’t replicate it. I wish the music flowed this easily out of me...
Amazing performance by all five musicians! This performance also underscores Mark Knopfler's genius as a guitarist/composer - Each of these three master guitarists have their unique touch and tone, but they all stay close to the original structure of the tune. Almost all the melodic figures/riffs (even a lot of the little grace notes) can be heard on the original Dire Straits version. Even though the lyrics to the song are great too, Sultans has become an instrumental classic that stands well on the music alone. This one is a fantastic example!
Well said!
Steve Armstrong Thank you!
Yes, very well said. You summed up very eloquently my thoughts. I'm a huge fan of Mark and of Tommy. Pedro and his musicians are now on my radar too but this was just outstanding.
abztractbeats Thank you, I really appreciate the feedback! This is a real gem of of a video, and like you, it really put Gonzalez and Jorgenson on my radar. The two sidemen were amazing as well (percussion & bass).
That percussion and bass was done so softly and beautifully... and complemented these two brilliant guitarists... I suspect we'll never run out of such brilliance... there are others using finger style playing.. but this was? Pure class
My soul and ears are grateful to this 3 super talented artists for melting together in a sublime way
Only God knows how many times I've watched this.
These are the SULTANS!
musical ambassadors of their countries and are of the highest caliber.
Years of dedication.
Yes sir
Around the 7:00 mark is where you see three seasoned veterans having fun like they just simultaneously nailed their first solo at age 9 in the garage with their buddies. Incredible.
Die 3 sind in dieser Zeit in ihrer eigenen Welt. Sie nehmen nichts mehr um sich wahr. Fantastisch. :)
@@rolandkeina239 ich bin begeistert! 😍
...around all video mark is everywhere, mark knopfler
Tommy Emmanuel is absolutely amazing! How humble he is and such fun to play, like a boy that just owned his first guitar. It will be a dream to watch Tommy and MK playing together
Really makes you appreciate just how damned good Mark Knopfler is, doesn't it?
👌👌👌
Oh Yeah!
Damn straight!
to the point!
Mark is an exceptional player of the best taste !
Tommy, John & Pedro sound incredible but... listen closely...... that bass player is absolutely killing it! awesome!
Correct, very smooth, I often watch it 4/5 times in a row! Timeless, with three totally different techniques that, for the most part ( take the ego's out towards the end), blend flawlessly.
7 million views ... I've listened to this at least 50000 times. And i'll never get enough of it.
If I had to choose one song and only one song to listen to the rest of my life, this would be it. And this would be the version. Truly magical. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Shally
2 more great songs, setting me up & sweet surrender
👌👌👌
Absolutely amazing performance
Saw Tommy Emmanuel earlier this year. Fantastic
This segment must be saved on a storage unit ( cd-flash memory-hard drive ) and sent to outer space for aliens to pick it up before humans destroy each other.
If the aliens could see how humans can cooperate like these guys did, maybe they'll help prevent us from destroying ourselves.
Cd don’t last enough for to reach alien space
better long play
7 billion of us . We get on pretty well despite what the media would have you believe.
Its important that it is a cd flash memory hard drive
Jorgenson has killer tone.
Just like Mark Knopfler 👍
And the bass player tucked over on stage right holding the floor down like a boss!
(Just keep it together and no one will know you don't belong here) - me when my version of these things happen.
Loved Sultans all my life and seen many great versions of it... but I was today years old when I found this one and have to say, it's the best. Truly amazing.
Thanks Mark Knopfler for such an amazing song,Masterpiece!
One spanish guitar player and one player that later years play gipsy guitar and one that can play it all... Pure joy!
Pedro Javier amazing!!
The Spanish guitar playing come from the sadness that there people went through.
That's the difference between him & Tommy
Make no mistake Tommy is one off the best in world. I had the privilege of meeting Tommy @ the Sydney Harbour side brasserie. You cannot beat that Spanish sound!!! The guitar was born in Spain &
It's sound was from their pain. God bless Spain.
I’m overwhelmed and on my knees every time I come back to this .. much gratitude to the composer, the musicians, the video clip and the post (🙏🏽) and all those who have appreciated this absolute gem ✨
Thank you, Lord for awesome old men who have dedicated their lives to their passions. And thank you for computers, and QSC amps and JBL speakers, and a little time to listen.

"We are the Sultans.
We are the Sultans of Swing."
A joy to watch Pedro and Tommy play together. And Nick Nolte did well on the strat too.
I think it’s Alexi Lalas, without the ball of course.
We're lucky to have been born to watch their playing in our life.
Sultans of Swing is a masterpiece in it's own, and this is a great acknowledgment of the song by Dire Straits.
Lesson in life: do what you love, love what you do, and enjoy who you do it with. Look at these guys. This was no mechanical performance. It was pure joy.
Props to rest of the crew as well, the bass player and percussionist especially
My gosh the energy around them is amazing! True masters of their craft!
This needs to become a UNESCO World Heritage video. It gives me faith in humanity.
lmao preach
Mark would smile wide listen to this guys.
he must proud too.
I've watched this 100 times I never tire of this trio. They dance so well together. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
2021 anyone watching
Me, every day.
God damn right!
Jolted out of everyday mediocrity, enthralled by the brilliance of these three musicians playing against, yet with each other, that for a moment, I felt I was a part of the magic that they were creating. Surely it doesn't get much better than this.
Edward Barber I felt the same way. Especially around dhe middle and end!
There in lies their genius. To make you feel part of it.
Amen brother.
Excellent take.
I love 3 grown men being so playful and yet so focused! Tells me more than a thousand words!
I love Tommy! Wow! One can feel his passion with every guitar play. So much talent on one stage!!!
El toque de la guitarra flamenco es formidable!! 👏👏👏👏
If you've never seen Tommy Emmanuel play live you owe it to yourself to go to his website, find a venue and go see him play. This might be the best thing ever on UA-cam.
Tom Sturgis I have seen him a few years ago in Vancouver and he was truly amazing 👍👍👍👍👍
I've never seen someone preform so passionately. He waited and met everyone and was so polite and kind. Always smaller venues and cheap tickets. What a true legend
Respect to the percussionist too, he kept it together very well. Stellar performances on guitar and wonderful bass too.
Agreed. And he didn't even get a credit.
The advert probably read something like: "come watch us have fun then go back to your boring lives"...... Bladdy Beautiful Performance
The obvious joy all three of them are feeling comes through in the music. Beautiful, happy, joyous (and technically ridiculously skilled) playing. Thank you for posting.
I've watched this countless times...I even hear this in my sleep.. I am so totally speechless at this level of perfection. This goes beyond music that you listen to...This is music you feel.
Tommy's soul literally runs through his fingertips into his guitar and back again!!! Incredible player.
He can play that guitar just like a ringin a bell
These gentlemen soothed me like nothing else could lately. They are phenomenal. Their band will be played in my house for years to come.
Three guitar geniuses having a BLAST, getting to playfully “show off” for each other AND a lucky audience!
The joy on their faces while playing is priceless!
Brilliant interpretation of one of the greatest rock guitar songs. Pure joy.
Almost 40 years after Friday night in San Francisco they recreated that magical mood
FINALLY GOING TO BE ABLE TO SEE TOMMY IN FEB. ...IN THE BIG SKY!!!!!
The three of them harmonizing is absolutely mind-blowing.
I'm one of those guys who laughs when he bubbles over with joy. This quintet's musical, magical gift made me burst into laughter throughout this 7-minute joyride.
Well, every time I'm watching it made me burst into laughter because I know I can't be so good in 1B. years!!!
Im the same i burst out laughing at unbelievable guitarists most of the time its Django who has me laughing the loudest
This has got to be the most epic acoustic guitar jam of all time
I e been in the music industry for over 20 years doing security . I've seen many musical acts . Huge names and unknowns. But this is by far my most favorite part of this industry. Legendary music performed by other legendary musicians with their own flair. SO SWEET IT IS !!!! BRAVO TO THEM.
There ain't gonna be another performance as awesome as this on this particular song... What an incredible undertaking and breathtaking performance it was! Simply outstanding! Bravo legends!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏻
Dude, you're goddamn right! Been saying this for years! 5 to be exact & I still can't get enough of this performance & it never ceases to blow me away every time even having seen/heard it probably 10,000+ times
Yes, especially since today's auto-tune generation doesn't even know what a guitar is.
AMEN! Aside from the NEARLY ORGASMIC sound, what an utterly beautiful execution PURE PERFECTION

The bassist is bloody good. Please mention him as well.
Tommy is so humble that he included him at the end.
Tommy makes it exciting because he enjoys every second and draws everyone in as well
Clearly one of my favorite UA-cam-clips! Imagine no less than 3 super-guitarists playing a song made by another great guitarist!! Lots of LOVE going on here!!

It's amazing
They are all mesmerizing to watch and they are not trying to outdo each other. However Emmanuel is extraordinary and is the obvious amongst these equals. I just keep replaying it and never tire of it. Beautiful performance. And complete acknowledgement to Mark Knopfler for this brilliant piece of music
Seven minutes of pure happiness! I want to experience this live!
My apologies..7 minutes and 40 seconds! :)
Nope! 7 minutes and 38 seconds. ;)
I want to play this live 🤐
😂 I'm a simple man. I like when I see tommy😂😂

Leaving bass players loveless since the 16th century
Who the Hell are the 1.3 K that don't like this? They must not be human.
It is so typical of John Jorgenson that he deliberately takes a back seat and supports Tommy and Pedro with textures and vibes that turn this showpiece into a masterpiece. Anyone who is familiar with his catalog knows that his lead guitar chops are every bit as impressive, masterful, and tasteful as those of Tommy and Pedro. In this piece, his performance is not "showy", but that's just John. A true gentleman, and a superb guitarist.

Absolutely amazing
Two of the very best guitar players on earth. I say two, because I'm totally sure that Tommy Emmanuel is from a different planet 🙂
Chet atkins Knew it.
Tommy reminds me of Gary Moore, so much energy, like a racehorse waiting for the gates to open, all three of great players, i'm gobsmacked, thank you whoever put this on line.
I have watched this clip for hundreds of times.
wow, what a jam! That is what music is about!
+Greg Pett not just music, but life!
THEY ARE AWESOME / PERIOD !
Extraordinaire. Love to watch the nonverbal communication between the musicians. They all recognize they are among their peers!
Had the absolute pleasure of seeing Tommy Emmanuel live. An incredible guitarist. 👍👍👍👍
I've listened to this video about 2 dozen times and I still get the same amout of enjoyment out if it as I did the first time 😁
WOW! To play such electric lead guitar runs with THAT accuracy, speed and tempo on an ACOUSTIC, shows just how excellent guitarists these men are. Tommy has more facility, as he plays this style more often, but Pedro as a trained classical guitarist, shows just how much skill he has as well. Such a wonderful surprise; AND has me appreciating the tune even more. How much were THEY enjoying it?
Pedro really is amazing~ the classical training really does cut a lot of unnecessary movement
One can’t but recognize the magic they brought in that performance. It’s not just that they are masters technically, but they together elevate the song and each other. Thank you ❤
Three absolute MASTERS pushing each other in that rarified air that borders on the Divine.
When God made these three master guitarists he was showing off 👏👏👏
I think you three just received a huge standing ovation from around the world. Great performance 💕👍👍👍👍👍🇺🇸. Loved every part of it, this is definitely a keeper to watch over and over again.
Probably the most versatile piece of music written, played by the most versatile musicians? Excepting the originator! Great stuff.
Obsessed. Probably the best thing I’ve ever heard and best performance to watch. Never fails to raise my mood!
