This is my rendition of the famous Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits. It was an amazing experience to transcribe the whole band and perform this legendary song in a solo guitar. I hope you enjoy it!
Cheers!
Este vídeo é parte do Projeto de Extensão Concertos para Belém da Escola de Música da UFPA, coordenado pelo Prof. Lucas Imbiriba.
I have seen and heard Tommy Emmanuel and he is truly amazing. Joe Bonamassa is incredible. Trace Bundy can bring tears to my eyes and Luca Stricagnoli leaves me aghast. Over my lifetime I've listened to Chuck Berry, BB King, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour and so so many others. I am 71 years old and can say without doubt or reservation whoever invented the guitar did so with the hope that Lucas Imbiriba would one day find it. He did, and I will be forever grateful he did it in my lifetime. Thank You Lucas!
Good post.
So you like him, then?
Comments like this are ridiculous, especially when if you had to measure, Emmanuel crushes all the younger guys like this guy and Dawes (who IMO is similar to this guy) So far. But why compare? Just enjoy the all around greatness.
Monte Montgomery's rendition is also pretty good
Really? I mean he’s good but I hear some mutes that shouldn’t be there and some timing issues I just don’t think you should compare him to that list. He’s good don’t get me wrong but all the fru fru and extra flex is unnecessary imho he’s no Billy strings. And don’t forget this dude is just playing all the songs those great men wrote huh? When he writes an epic masterpiece the likes of mark knopfler then I’ll be impressed. To compare him to Gilmour? Cmon man your fuckin balls are square. You might be too old to really realize what your saying. 😮
Absolutely the most epic acoustic rendition of this song I've ever heard and witnessed. Amazing!
Thanks!
Totally agree
100% agree with you.. Seen a 1000 of these over the years.. This is genuinely amazing, clever and just well done..!..
Never heard anyone rip it this way. Phenomenal!!!
Holyshit this is on another level
I'm 65 and have watched many many videos of the greatist guitarists in the world. This is the first time I have ever sat here all by myself and was clapping at the end. Unreal! Big props to you buddy!!! What energy!
Thanks, David!
I've been playing guitar for 27 years, listening to music with a hungry mind for near 40, this is one of the best things I've ever seen and heard on the guitar. You have an unbridled passion for the instrument and a sense and instinct for what sounds great musically and not just showing how good you are. An absolute delight to listen to!
awsome! ✌
Well said!
It seems very obvious he went down to the crossroads and sold his soul! This is unearthly.... utterly magnificent!
You beat me to it.... totally agree !!!
Agreed
How. Just how?
How is it possible to play like this?
How is he not more famous?
How does this ONLY have 1.3 mil views?
I’m literally in shock. Been playing 15 years, and listening to the greats, never heard or seen a person make a guitar sound like this before. Im actually in shock. And in awe. This is unreal
Thanks Kujo!🤟🏼❤
Few reasons. Talent is not rare. He didn’t specifically “write” it. He wrote this version. But we’re listening for mark Knopflers tune.
And luck getting famous and effort getting famous.
Look up Luca Stricagnoli, he had that same effect on me.
If you also looking for something similar amazing, i have Luca Stricagnoli for you or Ewan Dobson´s Level 5 ! And yes, his overall skillset is insanely high
@@DH-og5yr Paintings are not rare but they don't all deserve to be in the Louvre.
This is absolutely ludicrous, I sat with my jaw on the floor for the full 7 minutes, I've played guitar/bass for over 15 years and this is some of the greatest guitar playing I've ever witnessed. It's not just the technical excellence, or the insane finger picking and hammer-ons/pull-offs, but the passion in which he plays and the unique approach he takes to artistic representation of the song. Bravo Lucas, a phenomenal cover.
same here, totally agree
same for me playing prof guitar for 25 years. This dude is out of this world. One of the best perfomances i ever seen

There were times when I actually burst out laughing, I can't really explain why, except that the talent I was witnessing was so unbelievable - so, in your words, 'ludicrous', that laughter seemed the only possible response. I can't even imagine how human hands can do that.
If you practiced 25 hours a day ,eight days a week, five weeks per month for 100 years … still wouldn’t be able to play at this Godly level!! My respects sir Lucas
Just came over from the Mark Lewis video who showed a clip from this video as a pinnacle of guitar playing and after watching this video i can agree. Just masterful control of your instrument. Truly impressive.
Welcome, Andrew!🎸
Was thinking Mark got Dave Grohl in his video. 😁
He never disappoints!
1. Bass line.
2. Rhythm guitar.
3. Vocals.
4. And a good bit of percussion.
5. Oh yeah, and lead guitar, too.

This version incorporates an extra layer that practically speaks the lyrics loud and clear. Absolute perfection.
Agreed! ❤
No thats the subtitles!! They really were there.. not in your head! But yes Absolute perfection
"incorporates an extra layer that practically speaks the lyrics loud and clear".... I love that hey, :) I find that to be really an odd part of music. 1 of the many strange parts of music.
Plays the vocal melody and it’s perfect 👌
It's not a new style..
But Lucas takes the style, and punts it into the Stratosphere !..
My goodness.. Been playing guitar for more than 40 years..
And this is just, Alien !..
Maybe time to sell my Guitars.. 😌😌
I've spent the last few months slowly trying to learn just the lead guitar part to this song. This man is playing the lead guitar, bass and vocal parts all at once, all on guitar.
...and percussion!!
@@giorgiopalmas7934 He definitely throws in some other stuff too, but he's playing the entire bass, vocal and lead guitar parts continuously through the whole song.
Not that hard. You figure out each section, then repeat, until it sounds right.
You have to ingest Lucas oil and you'll be as good as he is from now on....
This man is amazing oh my god, I wanna be this good one day
Made me cry. My dad loved Mark Knopfler's music. Was missing him something fierce this morning and looking for a lil connection? I guess. These arent bad tears. Bittersweet but not bad. The music is beautiful. Thank you.
"Check out Guitar Lucas... He knows ALL THE CHORDS!" Man, this is sooooo good! I listen to it at least once a day for inspiration! Master level talent!
That's awesome, Ron! Thanks, bro

This is some of the cleanest, most expressive playing I’ve ever seen. Unreal!
Thanks!
The most expertly played piece of music I have ever heard.
.....and I am a 57 years old life-long music aficionado.
Almost beyond belief.
Am without further words
I didn’t know that such clean precision was possible whilst also not being clinical or sterile. This has surgical accuracy and soul for days. Amazing work.
There's tons of videos on YT by guitarists so proud that they can play Knopfler's solos in this song. This dude does it in the middle of.a full chord melody without omitting a single note.
"This dude does it in the middle of.a full chord melody".... ya and we can learn from him... via this song... I love how that is...
True dedication . I'm impressed , I'm a slow learner . Then again to follow with I sing slow. . maybe it's just me with a more detailed sense of relaxing a crowd. Your do well don't get me wrong , just bring it down between the chords . Slow it down a notch it's not Rap music my friend . Of course it's only what you want it to be . At the same time . Imagine if it's your original and how you would want someone else to play . Talk to me .
Hell yeah im proud of it. Aint no one taking that away, that I can play this song note for note

Finally I found a person playing that actually is playing with their soul and not just mind. So many on here that play with soulless action you don't see them feeling the music like they should. Great video!
I’ve always favored the acoustic guitar over the electric I’m almost 60 now and never have I heard a more outrageously talented player than this guy! Man what an entertainer! He does everything the singing, bass, lead, rhythm, percussions,Spanish flavor! He’s truly a one man band! In a word AWESOME!!!
I have been playing for over 28 years. This was the best performance I have ever seen. I am amazed at your dexterity and stamina. I bet it hurts to play it that well. My hand burns just watching.
Indeed an amazing performance.. i will suggest you to checkout Fabio lima on UA-cam as well, he's another monster.
Well said! I’ve been playing since 93 and my forearms are on fire after watching him! I think my finger calluses just toughened up watching this! And the energy he emits! Fuck man, I wish I loved anything as much as this dude loves this song! I would bow if I were in his presence!
No words, mate! Incredible is the minimum I can say.
Mr. Mark and the creators have been absolutely defeated! Typical case of the master been taken by the disciple.
I just don’t get the negative likes here… sure people full of envy!
Im thinking he had some help :)
He knows his guitar like he knows him, it's incredible, I fuckin' love It! 😂
After 40 years of playing, this man inspires me to sell all of my guitars. 😳
LOL. I know the feeling, brother.
I will never understand people who say these things. Maybe guitar is not your thing? I see stuff like this and dig in. Owning a guitar for 40 years is not "playing" 40 years. There are 8,760 hours in a year. 350,400 hours in 40 years. Even if you practice an hour a day for 40 years...you still only have less than 2 years of experience. Practice more. Even 20 minutes a day you will start seeing huge progress. Not to be confused with noodling. I've owned a guitar for 30 years...I still suck...mostly because I never practice.
@@xzysyndrome It’s called sense of humor, get one and stop offering useless opinions nobody cares about.
@@remoevans7847 If I asked you why a chicken crossed the road....and told you "to get to the other side" would you laugh? Maybe you just need a sense of humor? Or maybe...it is a tired and dumb joke. I really like the part where you say "nobody cares" like you are the spokesperson for everybody. Go play your guitar...You do not care about my opinion...no need to bring everyone into it to try validating yourself. 40 years playing? I suspect you are old enough to behave better than a teenager.
Me too lol!
Lucas, I got to tell you man. if that song didn’t already have a name I would call it the song of 1000 triads. You are amazing man.
What a blessing for me to find your channel. I’m 72 been playing the guitar for about 53 years and you make me look like a beginner. God bless you brother.❤
That's a lot of sound and energy from an acoustic guitar. Didn't want it to stop.

I've been listening to original live versions of this song as well as tons of covers and this one just blows me away!!! Genius!!!
Every time I watch Tommy Emmanuel, his music makes me smile. I get the same silly smile on my face watching you create beautiful music from 6 simple strings of wound steel. Bravo Bravo sir!!!
More impressive than the virtuosic playing is, to me, the complete mastery of, and adherence to, the rhythm. So many talented guitarists let the beat fall away when they get into vamping, fills, and solos. That you didn't let that happen even once elevated this performance to a master class.
Totally agree. It’s the rhythm that houses the soul of the song and this has it. He left none of it out.
My feelings exactly. What rhythm!
This man's playing acoustic with more intensity than most metal guitarists, holy cow. Great work!

I am a 60 year old musician and I appreciate how hard you’ve worked to get where you are! Absolutely amazing!
A lot of the posts below talk about about this being a cover. It's not: it's an audacious arrangement that brings the original to new places and new highs... some of the chordal harmonies are crazy. Amazing stuff. I like the mix of flamenco meets chicken picking meets rock.
A slight rearrangement is still a cover.
@@criddlegakes2650 “Slight”???
The chord progression (Andalusian cadence) makes it well suited to flamenco.
Absolutely stunning! I've never seen a performance of this song like this before and I don't think I'll see anything even close to this performance anytime soon. Congratulations!👏👏👏
that was amazing thank you for sharing!!! i always love people doing insane fingerstyles on this songs
I struggled for years to learn how to play the lead guitar parts for this song, which I can do pretty cleanly but never all the way through without some flaw. Now I just watched you do that while simultaneously playing the vocal melody AND basslines. I'm humbled and awed.
People like this have three brains so it's easy for them!
the vocal melody, basslines, AND rythm guitar parts...on top of the lead part.
The tabs and notation on the sheet music for this arrangement must be absolutely insane.
Holy Smokes, did I really just witness that? Some of the most incredible playing I have ever seen!! I don’t think I have ever seen anyone Rock the fingers style quite like that
Aye, he is incredible. If you want another treat, check out Luca Stricagnoli... he plays 2, sometimes 3 guitars at a time fingerstyle. Pretty unique and mind blowing as well. There is some real talent out there on UA-cam. My favorite is Thriller. ua-cam.com/video/zJ_pDcjICtw/v-deo.html

Masterful! One of the best covers of this tune I've ever seen.
The most impressive, and I mean THEE most impressive thing about this, is how you absolutely stay rock solid on time. Most covers on UA-cam have people rushing too much because they want to get through the tune instead of enjoying the ride (or practicing to a metronome).

During the roughly ten years since fingerstyle guitar has become very popular, I've seen so many covers of "Sultans.." - both in person and on social media sites. I also learned it myself. During all these years, I don't think I've ever seen a version quite as good as this one. Some were very good, but this is at the top shelf, for certain! It must've taken him several months-if not an entire year-to perfect this one. Indeed, it is extremely impressive, and full of feeling too; not just robotic.
m.ua-cam.com/video/b4h3ywazU9c/v-deo.html
This is just by far the best and technical performance and arrangement of this song!👏
Never seen anyone rock this song that hard before... and don't expect to ever see anyone go beyond this... phenomenal!!!
I'm still in shock. That was above and beyond perfection.
Wuuaaaaauuu Fantastico!!! Sei SUPER!!!! Mai visto nulla del genere!!! Complimenti 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Wow! This is fire. A classic and one of my all-time favorite songs interpreted in an amazing way... I feel comfortably blown away! 🙂
There are two things I love about this rendition -- and they have nothing to do with technical proficiency, the playing style or even the skill of the artist himself. The first is the passion -- the raw emotion that starts off at 10 and quickly rises to 11 and beyond as the song goes on.
I've listened to several finger style versions of this song on UA-cam and while most were close to note perfect and technically sound, they also bored me to tears. In this rendition, he drops a few notes here and there, but it doesn't matter. At all. Because for seven minutes, there is nothing more important to the guitarist than this song. It shows. And it's electrifying.
The second thing is that he arranged a unique and dynamic piece of music while still staying true to the original (or maybe the added fills were completely improvisational, I don't know, but my point stands either way.) To quote Simon Cowell (and I can't believe I'm actually going to quote Simon Cowell), he "made it his own."
Simply stunning, sir. This is one of my new favorite videos -- and by far my favorite rendition of his song. Consider me subscribed.
Thanks, J! I truly appreciate your thorough analysis. Welcome to this channel🤟🏼❤
Solid comment, the passion just destroys.
@@agentsmith110111 I know, right? The passion is what separates this version from the others I've seen on UA-cam by a wide margin. Most of those renditions put me in sleep mode -- this one puts me on the edge of my seat.
That solo section that starts at 3:20 is something else. The way you incorporate all the other elements around what is essentially a guitar solo blows my mind
the greatest thing i've ever heard... the greatest thing i've ever watched. Talent isn't a good enough word for this. What a blessing.
This is absolutely AMAZING, fantastic rendition. WOW.
How amazing is when someone can take you away from everything else in the world for 7mins. Thank you
Never seen a person play rhythm, lead, lead 2, and drums at the same time before. Also have never witnessed somebody so effortlessly sweep notes and chords across an acoustic guitar like that... great job sir. I'll definitely be returning to your videos

Amazing.
Yes it was..he got a lot out of the acoustic. More than I have ever heard. Not an ordinary feat.
Flamenco players are usually twice as good as your regular awesome guitar player..and the techniques they use are just as difficult as they seem. That's what very healthy and solid nails sound like with proper finger technique on those sweeps.
Look up Tommy Emanuel, or Luca Stricanoli, there are lots of players who are exceptional fingerpickers, or Mike Dawes, they too will blow your mind
@@elizabethmacavoy1324 Good point, and no doubt. He was playing the melody, which is sung in the original, and playing accompaniment to that at the same time. As well as the lead guitar and rhythm.

Senza parole! Un dio della chitarra! Con sei corde ,fa quel che vuole!!!!!!!!!
O.O
Wow.
Classical storytelling. SOS guitar piece sounds as though written by a master - literally. You do it justice.
Holy Jesus... what an incredible player, true to the original, he demonstrates the great Knopfler lines throughout & adds a few fireworks of his own. I've played this song countless times but it never sounded like this. Huge respect man . ..
Thanks a lot 🤟🏼❤🎸
Were just to write something like this, but you were ahead with the better ;).
The cover is so God Bless Precise and at the same time unique!
Unbelievably easy played!! 👍👍👍🙌🤳👏✨😃
Thanks from Russia. Can't wait more content
@@l.mu.433 spasibo, my friend! I've played in more than 30 russian cities. Love your country :)

Even the best in Nashville can play like him,..I've looked everywhere
WOW! One of legendary songs. The Sultan has returned to his throne.
Hey Andri, nice to see you around! Thanks, bro!
Absolutely insanely amazing! 👏🏻
Ive never seen this song played with more soul. Excellant job
I can’t tell you the last time a song or performance gave me goosebumps, but this did. Holy heck…. This is godlike
I can't cope with this. Absolutely unreal, magnificent mastery of the guitar.
"magnificent mastery of the guitar.".... On Full display... It really helps us learn. Sooo many nice little riffs in there that i barrowed. :) ❤❤
Agree!!!!! Amazing, superb improvisations, while still keeping within the scope of the original melody 💙
chitarra was waiting millennia for Lucas Imbiriba
Can't help thinking bout the extraordinary artistry hidden in the patterns of the modulations flitting long the neurons that control his muscles.
