@Ray Sagastiano Good point- after the Beatles had broken up, I remember soft rock was quite popular (and for me, disappointing) and there was this sense that the 60's spirit as a whole had been replaced by a certain blandness which would be replaced by the next R'n'R 'revolution' of the late 70's, which was based on the 50's and mid 60's- shorter songs (and hair), strong melodies and hooks and fun, fun, fun.

Gary did a terrific job stepping out of the shadow of his famous father, Jerry, and was a great songwriter and musician.
So many fun songs...
As a Black male, I am very sorry that both gentlemen are dead.
When music was great.
I like Gary Lewis better than his father, and think he's more talented, too
Me too!
🗣They sound like the Beach 🏖 Boys. I like their sound 😎
My fav from Gary Lewis and the playboys . Such a great song.
Rock from the start to very early 70's was the best period . imo
steve wakeham I agree!
Such endearing songs by this group.
Great song "peppy, snappy, happy, less than 3 min. they had a string of hits that had very good radio play and sales were very good also. They madea small mark during that period when this music was just what we needed, the transition from the 50's to the 60's. Regardless of his father (Jerry) in my opinion he stood out on his own, When their hits hit the airwaves it took a while but nobody made the connection until it became common knowledge. Sad to say many would say that his start came from his father, regardless this group was out on their own merit with the music doing all the talking. Great song, great singing, and the fond memories of the lyrics made a young teenager think about his 1st girlfriend.
Peace 2 ya who remember
John923T Actally Gary has said it was his Mom who helped him get started both finacially moral support briefly their manager. Jerry wasn't keen on idea until he realized Gary was serious about music working incredibly hard. Then he got them top tv appearance gigs great studio crew.

Hello Janette, How are you doing?
I know a guy that was in Gary's unit during Vietnam. He said he was a swell guy, didn't act like a big shot either. He was just one of the guys.
Gary Lewis was in a safe, non combat area of Korea !!!!
