I was born in 2008 and also grew up with 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s music and am absolutely in love with basically everything that has to do with those decades, such as the fashion, movies, music, tv shows, comics, etc. (mostly the 50s and 60s though) and I wish more than anything that the world had good music again like it did then! There was so much innocence in music then and so much talent too! I agree, oldies are the best!! Gary Lewis & The Playboys are such an amazing and underrated band too! It breaks my heart that Gary Lewis’ Dad (Jerry) was abusive and a terrible father to his kids because I love watching Jerry’s movies and they always make me smile and make me very happy. But I’m happy to see that Gary grew up a great and talented guy despite having a terrible father!
I grew up with this music. I can't remember the last time I heard this or listened to it but today it just wouldn't get out of my head so I came here and listened to it. Love it
This song was recorded mid way through my senior year in high school. I loved this music then, and I still do. This reply is being made nine months after yours; I hope that you are well.
Am 77. Met Gary Lewis on the oldies Malt Shoppe Cruise in 2013 and he performed 2 concerts on the ship. Saw and talked to him everyday for 6 days. He became almost like a brother to me. Gary was so great to everyone on the ship. His concerts were fabulous and I’ve seen him once since. Fabulous individual. Paul from Toronto Canada
I never liked Jerry Lewis, even as a kid. Never thought he was so funny in any of his movies. When I heard how he treated his family, I was appalled. What a low-life SOB! It’s nice to know that none of his father's creepiness rubbed off on Gary or any of his brothers.
My favorite song. Will always remind me of my precious mom as she introduced me to all of the BEST music ever made from the beginning of my life and throughout! I will forever be grateful. I miss you and will see you again, Mom! ❤🥲
Yes..."Gary Lewis & The Playboy's" had many hits that, I enjoyed. This Diamond Ring.. Just My Style, Save Your Heart For Me, Green Grass, Sure Gonna Miss Her, My Hearts Sympathy, You Don't Have To Paint Me A Picture, Count Me In, I even enjoyed his voice impersonations on his song "Where Are All The Stars". I caught his act...in the 80's at "Lulu's" in Ontario. A Truly Nice Guy ..I still have my Photo With Him. Thanks 60's Music Lovers.
M Harvey, Yes I know someone that lived near Jerry Lewis.I know he did a great thing doing the Marathon but he was a mean, horrible, unfair man who treated his sons and first wife like shit.Hard to believe but he hid it well, those poor boys and ex wife.Glad someone else posted this.I refused to watch any of his movies after I found out what a monster he was.Thank you for your comment!
Yikes ..I was 13 when this came out, loved them! Still do, and so glad I can see and hear them online since I didn't own a record player back then to be able to buy records!
We lived out in the country and never saw our classmates during the summer. This song had a special meaning because you didn’t know if your 7th grade girlfriend would still your girlfriend wehen 8 th grade started.
Many years ago I paid a visit to a Catholic church and there I heard two teenagers playing a great tune with their guitars. The melody was soooo beautiful that made me wonder what song it was. Thinking it would be presumptuous of me as a stranger to ask them about the song, I stayed around listening instead. As time went on I forgot that melody completely so there's no way I could find it anymore, what a shame. Then I've chanced on this Gary's song on YT and instantly all my memory about what I heard that day is back.
I first heard 'This Diamond ring" then "Green Grass" at my friends house his sister's had the singles. I Asked for Gary Lewis and The playboys album for Christmas and this song was on their Golden great album that I had gotten! :)
Gary Lewis & The Playboys is one the most underrated groups from the 60s & this is my favourite song by them.. I've always been a fan and always will be. Great music and great memories!! Thanks Gary and the guys!! From Vancouver Canada ♥
Written by Gary Geld and Peter Udell, the sane team that wrote Hurting Each Other and Sealed With a Kiss (big hit for Brian Hyland in 1962 and later recorded by Gary Lewis in 1968).
I saw them backstage in Madison, WI in 1965 when they had the hit single This Diamond Ring and they were playing at the Orpheum Theater. My friend and I had backstage passes.
The word playboy refers to boys who played music and the guy with the accordion was a little older I never saw anyone play that accordion like he did Funny the accordion was famous in the 1950
I saw a June 15, 1963 Billboard (posted online) and it was advertising Bryan Hyland's then-current single "I'm Afraid to Go Home," and this was the B-side.
Clean music. I mean, just tuning back in, I can't help but describe it that way. Clean. Nice. I have a feeling the musicians and singers will start to go back in this direction. Check The Voice. Every now and then you start to hear a little bit of 'pop'.
This is truly my favorite song. I have loved Gary and the Playboys since I was 7 or 8. I would love beyond anything to hear them and meet And greet. Talk about making dreams come true! Are you doing any cruises?

I was 12 and away at overnight camp out on a 10 mile hike. I would sing this song to myself walking along the road. Never forgot it. I'm 70 now.
Gary Lewis and the Playboys brought great joy to my teenage days with their music. So lucky to have grown up in the 1950s and 60s (Born in 1950).
born 1948 and agree completely
I was born in 1973 but grew up listening to the Oldies. This is when music was music. Oldies are the best!
And the 70's were not!

Thanks Gary & the Playboys for making our wonderful music of the 60s as teenagers. We will always love & remember! 1965 & 60s!
A wonderful time, and wonderful music that the Playboys gave us.
amen to that!
I do agree .......
Yes, such romantic songs.
I don't think they got the recognition they deserved. I love their songs.
One of my favorite songs. I never get tired of listening to it.
I grew up with this music. I can't remember the last time I heard this or listened to it but today it just wouldn't get out of my head so I came here and listened to it. Love it
Me too woke today singing this song had to come to UA-cam to finding it.

Ya gotta love GARY AND THE PLAYBOYS
They were fantastic.

too bad about his deadbeat father
They had the most beautiful lyrics in all their songs, something we don't hear enough of these days.
amen
They made growing up in the 60s a joy.
One of the greatest songs of the 60's... and that's a real compliment considering the magnitude of talent of this decade.
He's Jerry Lewis's son. You should see them together
Gary lewis and the play boys
@@lazurm they are brill 🥰
A great song from the 60s. A lot of good music from Gary Lewis.😊
A lot nicer than his dad must take after his mom, I don't know how a person could treat his son's like that they were great sons.
Jerry Lewis was SOB! That's for sure....
You're mean...
@@neilbuscherHe was very emotionally and Verbally Abusive towards them even while they were small Children😢

Gary was always Classy..unlike so many stars back then..great group too!
This one brings back beautiful childhood memories i was so in love with Gary back in the day ❤❤
Absolutely. I was 9 when this came out in 1965. Beautiful time to be a innocent elementary school kid.
My grandfather used to love listening to this song when he grows up.😊
A hit to remember by Gary & the playboy's in 1965. Keep playing hits Gary your a great singer.
Many may not know it but this song was written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin.
Great song! I'm sure many of the harder rock and roll fans would laugh but I genuinely like this song
hard rock is for the tone deaf only
Fabulous! I saw them with the Turtles!
Great concert. Gary Puckett & one of the lead singers of Three Dog Night as well. Always loved Gary Lewis!
Simple and soooooooooo Sweeeeet Music. They don't make songs like this anymore... Love it

he was never funny and hated his sons real talent and success
Saw them at the Steel Pier for my 13th birthday in 1965!
Steel pier memories for me were in 66 when The Supremes came. Was that the show that was hosted by Ed Hurst?
First ever 45 I ever bought! Heard this song in 1965 at a restaurant we went to a lot. I was 10 years old and fell in love with this song!!!
great choice!
loved this song when I was 9 years old and still do at 66!!
Such a beautiful song.
この時代の洋楽で最も好きな曲の一曲です。いつもレコードで聴いていますが動画を観れて感激です。音源はレコードでしょうが構いません。因みに私は72才です。
I saw Gary Lewis and Playboys perform in a little dive in 70's. Talked to him a good while when they took a break and were shooting pool.
One of my favorite songs of the 60's
My favorite song by them!!!! First heard this going through Baltimore on the was to visit relatives on August 26, 1965.
love his music it's out of sight and fantastic.
A real tear-jerker.
Minns den tydligt och kunde sjunga med för mig själv. Rent och fint framträdande med klara och rena stämmor. Fin mjuk sång!
Listening in music is a good hobby
As a 12-year-old, I will proudly state that this song is awesome. I heard the song while I was in the car with my mom. I was bobbin' my head lol
You are 12 and I was 12 when this song meant so much to me. I'm 70 now. Good songs live on forever.

This song was on a default setting on the juke box at my job. A happy little tune from 59 years ago

A favorite song, as I think about my special girl friend who I met in the summer of 1964.
I once ran into Jerry at an airport. I said "hello, I'm a huge fan of yours". He told me "to shove it". True.
Great talent. Love his music. ❤😊

beautiful melody
Thank you for all the awesome music God Bless you
Thanks Gary--still sounds good today! Dave in Cleveland.
Amazing group! Their first 7 releases charted in the top 10. They were the house band at Disneyland when they were discovered.
@rennerbd. I'm also struck by how beautiful the lyrics are in all their songs. Sadly, we don't hear lyrics like that today.
Gary Lewis & The Playboys is one the most underrated groups from the 60s & this is my favourite song by them.. I've always been a fan and always will be. Great music and great memories!! Thanks Gary and the guys!! From Vancouver Canada ♥

He's got a lot of clown in him likes his dad did. I like that!
I loved this tune. I think I was about 10 or 11 when it was popular. I was very happy at that time
I've never heard finer accordion playing anywhere.

First recorded by Bryan Hyland in 1963, Gary and his band took it to the top in 1965.
