I was looking to purchase a 488 in 2022 and did a lot of research. I rented one on Turo for a few days and was sold on the car. Then I started digging into the 458. I thought it wouldn't be a car that would be on my radar due to its age but I figured it didn't hurt to investigate. I took one for a test drive at a local Ferrari dealer and was shocked at how raw the 458 was compared to the 488. Rented a 458 for a few days to confirm whether that was the car I wanted and man did it deliver. 6 months later, I found the perfect spec 458 and pulled the trigger and couldn't be happier.
Guys your dealership building looks legit! Lighting is great for videos and the pallet wall also looks great on camera. I know it was a ton of work but you transformed that skanky building into a great space.
I have a 458 and have driven the 488. The 488 I feel is too fast for the street and the speed is where the excitement is. The 458 can be enjoyed at any speed because of the insane sound. What people don't get is the sounds the 458 makes at lower speeds is so good! Quarter throttle off the line to 5000k is a sound that most newer cars just don't have. I also have a Kline exhaust.
I did a photo shop, where I put my Novitec black yellow wheels on the cars. They both look awesome ! I like the sound of the 458 better, plus it has the yellow stiching. It was cool to meet you guys at Mecum.
So many people discredited the 488 that the first time I rented one I wasn't expecting much. The one I rented was stock and I was blown away. I would take the 488 over the 458 any day and twice on Sunday.
I had a 488 with exhaust and tune and i traded for a 458 with ipe and tune i will never look back. 458 gives you something the 488 doesn't, superior emotion on every shift and is fast anyway to give you smiles every time you floor it
I looked at both the 458 and the 488. I bought the 458. Naturally aspirated power you can use. Soooo much fun. No brainer for me once I drove them both. The 488 is clearly faster but you just can’t use all that power on the street regularly. The 458 looks better and clearly sounds better. And the 458 will go down in history as one of the most fun naturally aspirated cars ever made. I bought mine in December 21 and have put over 10k miles on it smiling all the time!
I test drove a 488 once. It felt like I had unlimited power under my foot. It's stupid fast and makes you forget that it doesn't sound as good as a 458. I'd still pick the 458 because of the sound and the fact that it's plenty fast.
What an incredible feeling that must be. I took my kids when they were young to the Ferrari Dealership in San Antonio. I know they will never forget that day. Great Work on the Garage too. The floors came out really nice. Good Job Brandon and his crew !!!
@@normalguysupercar Discs as in rotors. Pads are totally different. The 458 uses the old style open back Brembo caliper that is found on Corvettes and many other cars. When I got my CCST rotors from Surface Transforms for my 488, I was the "test pilot". Same sizes etc. After taking some measurements, they sent me a set of 458 rotors to test fit. Front was the exact same, rears were too. I just unbolted the inner drum. Rather than sending them back and wait three months I just stuck with what I had. Now they offer the rears without the holes in the hat for the drum. The Speciale actually use the same brake setup as the 488 with the billet closed back calipers. Also the Pista and 488 can run the same rotors too. Only difference is that the Pista runs a 38 mm thick rotor vs. 36 mm, but they are interchangeable. So if you ever want to get a set of front rotors for a 488 that has a bit better heat management, but that are OEM, just order Pista rotors. Fun fact. The 812 SF/GTS, TdF and Pista share brakes too🙂
458 wins, it’s a flat out more fun, more “Ferrari” car The 488 sounds like every other turbo sports car In fact the one you drove sounds exactly like the BMW Alpina I had The fact that the price delta between the 458 and 488 is less and less tells you all you need to know
I think Josh did a great job pointing out each cars differences. The only thing that would've made this review epic is appropriate costumes. If you're going to review 2 amazing Batmobile's, you gotta go all in. So which one will be Bruce, and who"s gonna be Robin?🤔
If its not already, I think the 458 may be regarded as one of the best Ferarris ever made. Sure, there are quicker and faster ones but the styling, sound, and overall experience of the 458 is hard to top especially with that exaust. Cars are so fast now but they have "no soul" if thats even possible.
I think that idea is starting to taper off - at least here in Europe. And honestly, if one has driven multiple Ferraris, old and new, there are several, as in quite a few, that are much better and more engaging.
I would take the 488 if it wasn't for the way the front looks. I know some will hate me saying this, but if I'm being honest, i would put the challenge front fascia on it from 2016, that looks like the standard car with a few extra organic lines.
I have a 458, black very similar spec to y’all’s, I have been thinking about trading/selling and getting a 488/f8. If I had all the money….I’d keep the 458, but if I want to change it’s gotta go.
Only because the F8 was mentioned, I would actually take an F8, besides the overall looks, three sound which I think is slightly better than the 488, it also has the signature Ferrari look of 4 taillights.
My dream car the 458 black on black but I'll take the 488 GTB in black on black. Hopefully, I do good in crpyto and buy one. Also, what exhaust is on the 488 GTB?
Hey quick 812 Comp question. Do you know where the prices of those are in the US at this point? Now the coupé versions are starting to trade between 2 and 2.4 mill € here in Europe. Also, do you think the SF90XX Spider with it's limited number will be a fairly big success on the used market? People definitely seem to be really into the design.
I think I'm still strongly in the 488 column and I think it's because of the shocking acceleration with a turbo car... i mean i love my F12 but it just doesn't have that kick you in the head acceleration of a turbo car
I think Ferrari missed the mark on the 488, they had a tough act to follow and seemed they needed more time at the drawing board to fine tune it as this was their first production run turbo car. The 488 owners are quick to upgrade to something else and the 458 owners (me included) have a hard time letting go. I love the performance of the 488 but if I was going turbo I don't think the 488 would be on my short list.
That is what some say should have been the next car after the 458. I havn't ridin in one so I don't have an opinion on F8. The styling on the F8 just doesn't get me that excited, it seems a little soft compared to the Pista. I really wish they stayed the course with Pininfarina designing their cars.@@normalguysupercar

I like the sound of the 458 I am over 50 years old but that sound when it was going by and being filmed from the outside sounded absolutely incredible
It's pretty amazing sounding
I love the sound of the 458, but the performance of the 488 is tempting.
Exactly

Love that 458!, great vid 👍🇮🇪
Thanks 👍
Good stuff boys. Dealership is looking pro for sure! That 458 sounds NASTY! Nice review.
Appreciate it!!
Thanks for the video, and for going through the mods. Honestly, half of the mods are things I would want to be undone as a condition of purchase.
Well there's different things for different people.
Love the 458, but the whistle of the turbos in the 488 is awesome!
Yeah it's hard not to enjoy that
458 sounded much better.... higher screams....I'm old school, naturally aspirated is the way to go.... dealership looks fantastic !!! Great work !!!

wow Dan you have come so far from when i started watching congrats all your hard work paying off

The 458 sound! ❤

Aside from the drum in the rear, the brake discs interchange between the 458 and 488.

Yes
