My biggest mistake when I built my first pc was - Going as cheap as possible. I bought the cheapest motherboard, the cheapest CPU, the cheapest ram. In the long run, I spent more money upgrading than I would have if I just waited a little bit longer and bought better parts. "Saved" money by buying a motherboard with 2 dimm slots, now I have to buy expensive higher capacity RAM instead of putting a less expensive kit in now and adding 2 more sticks later.... "Saved" money by going with the motherboard version WITHOUT wi-fi, now I have to buy a wi-fi/BT adapter.... "Saved" money by going with a 4c/4t CPU, but the performance difference would have been 200% better with a CPU a little more expensive..... "Saved" money by buying the CPU used instead of new, now I have to buy a CPU cooler instead of having the the stock cooler.... "Saved" money by buying the cheapest PSU I could find, now I have to buy a new PSU when I'm ready for a better GPU....
What CPU and GPU do you have? I paid $300 a couple of years ago for a PC that has an i7 8700k, GTX 1060 6GB, and 16GB of DDR4 RAM. I could have spent more and bought a more modern PC but since I don't play very demanding games or edit content very often, I don't need the latest and greatest and hardware.
Here’s a couple of tips: 1. If installing an AIO, don’t install the radiator on the bottom. 2. If you get a budget PC Case with those breakoff PCI slot covers, be careful not to scratch your motherboard potentially damaging it. 3. Clearing CMOS is as easy as just removing the coin size battery on your motherboard. 4. Install your NVME on the closest slot to your CPU. Same goes for your GPU. 5. Aside from enabling XMP/DOCP/EXPO, be sure to enable Resizable Bar.
For people getting a PC for the first time, it's true to don't pay attention to the I5, I7 tag on the post or ad. I thought maybe this was by default or I'm just used to building PCs but the way it works is the branding is the I3, I5, I7. The model number is the important detail a lot of numbers right? But just separate it when you're thinking about it. Say I7 4790, separated it's going to be I7, 4th gen, model 790 Or a very old one an I7 2700. I7, 2nd gen, model 700 Same with the letters say a 12600KF. I5, 12th gen, 600 model, K for unlocked or (overclock-able), F for I just say it's F*cked, but it's supposed to mean there's no IGPU so no display when you plug the display port or HDMI on the motherboard. They go as mostly the same for both brands Let's say 100-300 is I3, 400-600 is I5, 700-800 is I7, and 900 for I9. Same-ish for AMD it's 100-400 Ryzen 3, 500-600 Ryzen 5, 700-800 Ryzen 7, and 900 for Ryzen 9. Hope some of it is understandable, and hope it helps.
Ah I get it!! It’s just crazy how many people over the years want an “i7” and get one that is 3-4 generations old not understanding the performance difference
@@MMillerPCs Back after I quit work, and did my pc building/repair hobby some customers also ask me if a certain cpu is good. I just explain the name to them and they learn to avoid the previous gen ones. Or if they wanted they could just pay me to make the pc instead. 😅

Hey can I just get a flash drive or something to use to download and install windows 11 or 10 onto my first pc build? Or do I have to do it from one of those websites and type the code
love the video and your content but I don't agree with your opinion on overclocking entirely. I will say you will pay a premium for overclocking parts like z-motherboards and k-cpus but what you can gain can be phenomenal. It may be for the enthusiasts and not for new pc builder but to them I say put up some old hardware and experiment as experience will give you the confidence to push you system more and more and it satisfying to see performance gains. My personal rig is running a 12600k OC'd crushes 12700k's stock performance on 360mm AIO and my GF's 12600k also is OC'd beyond a 12700k on air. IMO CPU and GPU overclocking is totally worth it if you have basic knowledge its accepting you didn't win the silicon lottery is the only issue, trying to push your components as far as you've seen others have. just enjoy the performance you have gained,. Ram overclocking is where I draw the line, setting XMP or XMP in bios works fine for me I don't think it is worth trying to overclock and the stability issues with memory overclocking is a headache. Also I must as what is your current low budget price to performance meta build? I personally cant find a better combo then a 12100f with Rx 5700xt. The CPU is right at the limit of bottlenecking with a 3060 or 5700xt but the AMD cards I picked up for around $150-175CAD. I wish I had of bought a x 5700xt when initially building my sons pc instead of wasting over a $100 on a rx580. I found not a huge difference between DDR4 16Gb 2x8Gb 3200MHzthe and DDR5 16Gb 2x8GB 4800MHz with the two 12100f Rx 5700xt systems I built so on the price to performance side I would choose DDR4. As far as build mistakes goes one I have made is purchasing nvme's without cache.
I know there are several people like you that love to squeeze performance out of CPUs. I just do not believe the majority of people need to be doing that lol As for the budget builds.. now that they have fixed the intel CPUs I think the 12100f is solid again because of the upgrade path… Depending on how cheap you consider “budget” I still really like the Ryzen 3600 and 5600. But the 5700xt is absolutely AMAZING Value still right now. I love that card
one i have seen and had to fix is update everything on your PC before you try to use it my buddy would not let me update his new PC he build before he tried to game on it
16: Just because it goes in, it doesn't mean it's supposed to. I have seen quite a few people mixing the cpu and gpu cables.
