I'm really excited to start this medication. I hate drinking because I feel like it just doesn't resonate with my lifestyle. I'm obsessed with running and hiking and love my job but for some reason when I drink I can't stop. I've seen so many of my family members struggle with addiction and can't wait to nip this in the bud.

So excited for you to get started! I know exactly what you mean. This medication allowed me to gradually fall out of love with alcohol. I got my control back over it, was no longer blacking out or hungover. Then after 1 year I just stopped drinking (accidentally). It was really life changing. Wishing you the best as you get started :) And if you are ever looking for more formal support with the method, you're welcome to learn more about the program we offer here www.thrivealcoholrecovery.com/

Hi, I also wanted to say thank you for posting these videos and like LZ said I am surprised by the low views but keep posting these things can take a long time to take off and gather momentum. I have been taking Naltrexone the last four nights in a row but have not been drinking with it I'm way to scared to after my last slip I lost everything. before I started taking it I was on Antabuse for 5 weeks but it was rotting my guts and was doing nothing for cravings. After about the second night of taking Naltrexone, I noticed the cravings subsiding. I think we should get together over the internet and start up some kind of support group for each other, having lost most of what I had going back to AA is just adding insult to injury being told the reason I drank is because I don't believe in god. If anyone reads this and wants to start up some kind of facebook page or something like that reply to this message.

I was clean from suboxone, alcohol and zanax for 10 days at a hospital detox center and they started me on 25mg of naltrexone and 2 houts later i was in complete precipitating withdrawals! Im talking about fluids coming out of every orpheus of my body! It lasted for about 6 hours. Literally the worst 6 hours of my life! The nurses and dr. Saw everything going on and still wanted me to try it again the next day. I said no damn way, they discharged me, and i immediately went to an NA meeting and gotta sponsor. The 12 step program has really worked for me and i dont have to worry about pills or shots to help me stay clean. Im a true addict and theres always a way to still get high, but I try my best not to one day at a time 😁 but great video btw!

I took Naltrexone 25mg today and 50mg 2 days ago.
The first day I became disoriented and it was very scary.
I woke up mildly tired yesterday and did not take the medication but threw up/vomited before I could have water, breakfast, coffee, or put anything on my stomach.
I just took half a pill/dose (25mg) this morning and am extremely tired and just got dangerously angry at my mother for waking me up from my sleep/nap.
I was thankfully sober before starting this medication and believe I can maintain sobriety without it.
I'm choosing to discontinue taking Naltrexone as of today.
I will let my psychiatrist know tomorrow morning.❤

I took naltrexone after haranguing my Doctor who finally gave me a script.
I felt so zonked out I was scared. The washout feeling the following day was worse than a hangover and lasted longer. It did stop my cravings but to tell the truth I would rather drink than go through that again!
But I gave it another go which was as bad and wasted another full day spaced out in a bad way.
Took remaining naltrexone back to my Doctor.
Would not wish this on anyone.

It is entirely possible that these nausea episodes may be completely unrelated to naltrexone, especially if they occur months after taking the medication on a regular basis. It's entirely possible, if not probable that they are the result of some other medical condition.

I found an herbal product on Amazon called Sobrenix after reading many positive reviews, it was about $30per bottle, I’ve been using it for 3 days and I seem to be able to hold off on my first drink a bit longer without craving it so intensely, my research also led me to my first association with The Sinclair Method which led to this site, RIA health, Claudia, one little pill and a FB page. I suffered for years with an eating disorder until 15 years ago when I discovered Prozac, within a week my whole attitude toward food changed. I literally stopped obsessing about my weight, what I would or wouldn’t eat yada yada yada! The Prozac tweaked my brain so that I was normal with food! Seriously a miracle! My drinking however increased ( replacing the sugar I guess) but I also think the Prozac made the effects of the alcohol more enjoyable, like really relaxing and pleasant. In the last year I’ve been feeling the need to do something and I have completely quit drinking cold turkey several times , even for a couple of years at a time but I always picked it back up. Now I feel I’ve progressed to being able to quit on my own. I really do t want to quit completely, I just want to cut down. This research and the testimonials make me believe it’s a possibility! Still researching and looking into trying it after the New Year! Peace!

Hi, have been using this for the 2nd day. I find that I still get the urge to have one more drink . I am taking 25 mg one hour before drinking. I also don't know if my brain is forcing me to have another one because it is getting the "reward" feeling or it is causing the urge in me to take a another because it is not getting the reward inspite of knowing that I am having alcohol.
Kindly let me know your thoughts

    • @thrivealcoholrecovery
      @thrivealcoholrecovery  5 років тому +1

hi! day 2 is still very early...this medication works very gradually over time to reduce drinking. It's great you already have this mindfulness around what might me causing you to drink. Most people start at 25mg to get used to the medication, then up it to 50mg after several times (good to work with your doctor on this). Some people (myself included) do chase that buzz that doesn't quite feel the same when on naltrexone. So that's good to be aware of. To be aware of these urges is important...eating before your first drink or with your first drink helps... and drinking slowly also helps. But yes, it takes time... months and months usually :)

    • @bpm74
      @bpm74 5 років тому +2

@@thrivealcoholrecovery Thanks for your reply, will persist though. Thinking about it , I do get the feeling that my brain is chasing the original buzz when it knows that there is alcohol in the system. I too am going for the extra drink with two things on my mind. 1. Is this stuff working let me have one more and see. 2. It may just be the old muscle memory/drink count that I am trying to match (no of refill).
Even though it's day 2, and 3 today just noticed that I wasn't thinking so much about my drinking plan for the day neither was there the earlier anxiety

Manu, you need to be patient, you will get there in the end. Just stick to the program of 1 pill an hour before drinking, NO EXCEPTIONS, even if you think it is not working, it takes time for the effect to become obvious. I was drinking 2 bottles of wine or equivalent EVERY day for years and this drug has saved me. It took about 1.5 years to be honest tor each extinction but my drinking went down considerably after the first few months. Today, 2.5 years after starting, I have no desire to drink whatsoever. I can if I want but I just don't want to. So hang in there, it does work - good luck to you.

Hiya, Great vid, thanks so much :)
Was hoping for some advice if possible.
I took my first pill yesterday at 4pm an hour before I had a beer and kinda felt ok until I had the beer.
Firstly it was so strange not to have that 'ahhh' feeling so I drank the beer quickly and then started another which I only managed to drink a half before feeling quick sick with a stomach ache and nausea. The Beer just tasted awful and I felt all creepy like a spider was crawling all over my skin. I had body aches and pains, was yawning and stretching to try to feel normal. So I took some paracetamol and went to bed. I didn't eat and the smells from the kitchen were making me feel like throwing up. Some cold sweats too.
After a very restless night I woke feeling pretty vague and spaced but I also didn't have a hangover so that's a win. Will persist as at some stage last night i thought I should try and throw up so I could get rid of the pill and have a beer and have the effect my mind craves. Crazy thoughts that showed me just how much alcohol controls my life.
So anyway I only took the pill with a handful of peanuts and had to take indigestion tablets off and on all night as my stomach was doing cartwheels.
    1. Would it be better for me to maybe have with my lunch?
    2. Does the 50mg tab work for 24 hours or less or more?
    3. Does it also effect smoking cigarettes as they are tasting pretty foul too. Can't wait to find a Sinclair method for the cigarettes, although I do feel quitting smoking will be so much easier without the constant alcohol cloud.
Thnx in advance and your courage to be open with alcohol addiction is awesome, good on you!!!

I've suggested using activated charcoal for people. this might help ua-cam.com/video/EKwZCH9bLMg/v-deo.html

    Hello Katie.
I bought my pills from India. Various times I have serious insomnia where I do not sleep until the next night.
I used the C3 foundation to find a UK private clinic, because the Nhs local clinics are useless.
Do you think the pills could be less pure from india, I guess they could be?
Insomnia+no sleep+stress+aniexty=more alcohol as I have just expierenced.
I just drank bottle of Wine to sleep.
I start universitiy tomorrow ...I don't need the side effects.
    Thanks for your work Katie,

Hi there! Getting them from India might be risky, but I can't say for sure. If it were me I would try to find a more reliable supply. I'm sorry to hear you've got insomnia and anxiety. I know what that's like and using alcohol to cope. TSM is a process that can really help with that over time. This reply is a little late so let me know how you're doing now. wish you the best.

you do not need to be clean and sober before starting on TSM. It is wise to be under the care of a physician to make sure things go well and you understand the process. TSM has been used to help people with severe Alcohol Use Disorder---because it allows them to reduce their drinking slowly they can avoid or reduce the withdrawal effects.

hey there! Have you done research on the data behind the Sinclair Method and how it works? It's pretty powerful and I've personally seen it help hundreds of people... naltrexone blocks receptors in the brain, so when you drink on it, endorphins cannot attach and it becomes less pleasurable. Overtime, the dependence is unlearned since the same reward is not experienced. It's like pavlov's dog in reverse. It brought me to sobriety with 0 thoughts or cravings for alcohol. CThreeFoundation.org is a great resource for more info on TSM :)
