Sandstone Care prescribes two FDA-approved drugs to treat opioid use disorder: buprenorphine (Suboxone and Subutex are common brands) and naltrexone (Vivitrol and Revia are common brands). These treatments have been demonstrated to be safe and effective in combination with counseling and psychosocial support. These medications either reduce the cravings or block the ability of the drug to create the “high” in the person’s brain.

As an alcoholic, I've been fighting Naltrexone for a week. Still drinking but damn, it makes alcohol tastes like crap and I give up mentally and physically after 2 drinks. Shit actually works, I'm happy it'll help me quite.
Good for you! I hope the same will happen for me, alcohol still taste too good.
@@majakid2545 So here's what you do, drink something else that's cheap that you don't like. I use to down a bottle and half of red wine a day/night. Switched to vodka. Tastes like shit to me but I still get a buzz if desperate.
@@majakid2545 HA! I found myself still drinking cheap champaigne because ...YUM! I just got use to that shitty, tart taste LOL! I've been on naltrexone for a week and it honestly has helped ...just by maybe a drink a day. I'm down from 5 drinks to 4 drinks. I suspect it'll get better.
I could still drink on it but didn't drink much could take 4 airplane shots and about all I wanted
Does this really work for alcohol? And opioids?
IT WORKS. Saved my life. If you have even the smallest bit of hope left after a million relapses, try it. You will be so happy.
Thanks for sharing your first hand experience. Glad you are on the right track :)
Naltrexone has helped completely decrease my obsession to use!
That is awesome to hear! Woot woot!
Same here !
So it's a cure?
Your comment really help me.
What was your drug of choice?
Vivitrol absolutely saved me and my life from alcoholism. I was drinking a liter of straight rum every single night. I had the actual desire to quit drinking- so this medication absolutely helped.
Wow, that is seriously awesome to hear. Thank you for sharing that. Very powerful and helpful to know
Does it really block the effects and one is not able to get drunk?
@@elvinluccon3394 it absolutely blunts the “pleasurable” effects of alcohol to the point you’re not getting the affect you normally would get. It also curbed cravings. I quit drinking almost 8 years ago and I would say that vivitrol was very helpful (as long as you are 100% committed to quitting drinking). Good luck 👍🏻
@@elvinluccon3394 also, I didn’t drink on it- but from what I hear you may feel some of the alcohol effects but very toned down when on vivitrol. The medication dulls the pleasure response
How does this effect other pleasures like sex ?
Thank you for explaining this and congrats to those of you who are trying it and seeing improvements! You can do this.
Great informative video. Thank you so much for all this information. I hope this helps everyone recover
My boyfriend just started using it. He thought he was able to ward off the drinking but at the end of the first month, the cravings came back. Once he got his second shot all those cravings went away again. It's crazy how much it works.
great video!!
I tried viviltrol years ago. Counselors and other providers warned me I had to follow a plan and that vivitrol on its own could not fix my craving for alcohol.
Sadly, I relapsed.
Getting help is not always easy if you have no health insurance or you're not court ordered. Believe me, I've tried. Another thing is that after covid, providers got used to doing group meetings via Zoom. Even when covid was done and for, they still insisted on doing therapy via line. I kinda miss meeting folks face to face
Agreed, it has a sure thing of being more personal care. ❤😅
I can’t have caffeine because I have dangerously high blood pressure by genetics. But I love coffee. So I drink it black. I’ve used naltrexone before and it helped so much with my alcohol cravings. I even found it reduced my desire for nicotine as well. I’m so glad I have a doctor finally that can help me get on it. Starting it in the morning, I tried it before and it was great! I’m so excited to have it now after 2 years of trying to get it.
That's great news! Hoping you feel better😄
🎉💯 I noticed my cravings for processed foods with refined sugar as well as caffeine decreased while on Vivitrol. The cravings were there; however, I was less impulsive and would take time to weigh the pros and cons of what I'd consume.
I just started Naltrexone today. I was sober for over a year when I was taking antabuse. But the effectiveness of antabuse wore off. Trying this now. I hope it works
We hope that this new medication helps you feel better here soon.
how is Naltrexone turning out for you?
He disappeared 🤔
What is antibuse?
Keep working at it 💗
Starting this tomorrow for NSSI actually and I also enjoy decaf coffee 😜
What’s the difference between suboxone and naltrexone?
Question, you take a pill even if you are drinking?
Vivitrol has been absolutely instrumental in my recovery from heroin. Just be cautious and aware that many providers of the shot will not provide you with a warning band or similar warning for medical professionals in case of an emergency. It's providers laziness as Vivitrol will provide them to them.
If you relapse on vivitrol can you still get dope sick?
Hiya. What happens if I stop taking naltrexone and drinking moderately after 6 months? Does the craving go away forever, or do I just go back as before?
Nice
Dude, I LOVE the taste and the burn of alcohol. Still, I'm on naltrexone and will soon be on vivitrol.
Does it always be like that?
Yes, some parts of addiction can't he replaced. But t try drinking hot sauce. Like most do when they look for intense feelings.
I totally drink caffe for the taste, and, btw, it gives me same kind of buzz as nice, juicy steak. As far as not getting drunk, wouldn’t I just drink more?
Decaf is purely for the taste without the shakes
Interesting...
Can it help someone get off suboxone?
So this works on the mu receptors? Same as naloxone? My question about this is, aren’t their natural endorphins (not sure if that’s the right name for them) that we need to feel happiness which would also be getting blocked? The mu receptors don’t just sit constantly unoccupied right? I would think that blocking the receptors responsible for pleasure would put one into a depressive state. I am not an expert here by any means and would appreciate an answer from someone who is.
I'm no expert either but what you're referring to are endogenous opiates ei Endorphins... I too wonder if it blocks endorphins. Natural pain killers...I just know these shots are painful!
If you want this answer, this would be a question for your doctor. Naloxone (opioid) and Naltrexone (alcohol) treat totally two different issues.
hmm so it makes you not feel the high? Wouldn’t that be a recipe for an OD? I gotta take this for opioids, and I rlly don’t wanna take them cuz I have no intention of getting sober. I’m 17 I haven’t been using for that long nd I rlly need the opioids cuz I got crippling depression.
Yes recipe for od but u have to be off op for 5-7 days to use naltraxone. I used krato to get me through op withdrawals
Please get professional help quick
does this work for pain?
Great question. For prescriptions for pain, it's best to consult with you physician or doctor about what specifically you should be prescribe for your particular pain.
What about a natural baseball?
I have 12 bottles of this stuff in my drawer I don’t take it because I think it might make me lose interest in more than just alcohol
To each their own. If your sober and whatever you're doing is working for you, then good but you won't know until you give it a chance.
@@pinogirl3321 I never said I didn’t try it
@@macattack9041 Vivitrol is a shot not a pill. They are same medicine, but Vivitrol (shot) lasts a month, so you don't have to take pills daily. You said you had bottles of the shit in your draw. Vivitrol is administered by a medical professional so you can't have it at home. The way you talked about made me believe that you've just done pill form. Pill form doesn't always work for people when the shot does. I'm sorry I assumed.
@@macattack9041You think it will make it impossible to feel any kind of pleasure/joy, love etc.?
Like what interests u think?
Does it make people weak after taking it
Every individual's experience, or potential side effects, is different.
Dang I don't feel good on this it gave me a bad taste, ever smell is bout to make me throw up is that normal.... ?
All side effects for each individual will be different. It would be best to talk with your clinician or doctor about what you experienced.
The shot made me sick been laying down 3 days
So basically I’m understanding that if you do relapse on naltrexone, it makes the alcohol taste more awful, and blocks out actually getting intoxicated???
It's different for everyone. It helped me with cravings, didn't make alcohol taste bad and I still got buzzed. I had the implant. the pills didn't do anything at all.
@@royharper2003 I too have the implant just curious thank you
@@adrianahope9472 and how is it working for you?
@@royharper2003 honestly so far so good they also have me on withdrawal medication so I’m waiting to finish that to see exactly how I feel
@@adrianahope9472 best of luck to you
Yeah, they don't say that the shot can stay in your buttcheek. I still have a lump from 2 months ago. Its like its in a pocket
Does it work on behavior addictions
Its for alcohol but it for in opioids, not for behavior adictions.
@@jmr6117 so you are certain about that? A friend of mine who happens to be a psychotherapist however that is beside the point, had a shoplifting addiction for many years. He feared he would lose his license and he couldn’t stop tried everything went on the this drug and that desire just lifted. It’s been two years now he’s been taking naltrexone and no desire to act out. Where do you get your information from?
@@insightandintuition276 please this it's not for that ,where You get that from ? This was make for alcohol but they find out it work on people who use opioids not for syco people or people who like shoplift lol..tell your friend to stop shoplifting lol..thats the crazy and funny comments i ever read about a person who need vivitrol cus he's a thief lol....
Naltrexone is mainly used to help treat alcohol use disorder (AUD) and opioid use disorder (OUD). Most likely, after talking with a mental health professional, another medication would be used for other behavioral addictions/disorders.
@@SandstoneCare yeap but not for shoplifting ( thief ) lol..how You going to get this medication to a person who have a problem of shoplifting ,maybe she don't know her friend still stuffs cus he have a opioids problems and she don't know. He don't want to tell her the real problem and she think or he tell her it's because the shoplifting problem lol.
Why is that guy saying naltrexone like that omg
We continue to work on improving! Thank you for your feedback.
So my Xanax won’t work 🤔
Xanax aint an opiod.
DO NOT combine Xanax with alcohol. I had a TBI 5 years ago down stairs and nearly died. 9-month recovery.
I started w the shot, worked 100%,life happened,dr put me on pill ..did not work for me..total ntmare
Find a MD that will give you the shot and not the pill!
If you didn't use The Sinclair Method that would explain the pill not working. TSM is all over UA-cam. The idea is that over a period of months, you will have more and more alcohol-free days with no cravings ... until one day, they are all alcohol-free days, and the cravings are gone and the medication is no longer needed (unless you decide to drink). The brain eventually loses interest in alcohol. This goal is technically called Pharmacological Extinction. Most good doctors will prescribe Naltrexone today (however they may ask you to stay abstinent because they are unaware of this research and method). TSM is done from the privacy of your own home and can be completed in 4-12 months. TSM can also be used along with AA, Smart Recovery or any talk therapy group.
You can get drunk on naltrexone...
You don't get the same euphoric feeling though. Naltrexone works for many drinkers!
Yes you can - and, since you don't feel the high, it can creep up on you fast. If you're going to do both, be HOME and safe. #experience.
@@cassondralynch6342 It did for me. I felt full and didn't want a drink. Just me, maybe.
@@mjp96 That's amazing! Beautiful :) I wish more people knew about it. I spread the word as much as I can and honestly, 99% of people don't seem very interested. Even if they care deeply about someone with a bad problem. It's bizarre! And it sucks. Anyways I'm glad it helps ya take it easy when you want or need it to :)
