I absolutely loved the Boys in the Boat - read it a few years back. I knew I'd love it because I'm a sports fan AND live in Western Washington.... so yeah, a BIG favorite for me!
I think we have some similar tastes. I’m not as far along in the Maisie Dobbs books as you but I am loving them, especially, like you said, the exploration & growth of the characters. I had 3 favorites last month: “Anxious People” by Fredrik Backman, “The Henna Artist” by Alka Joshi, & “Sipsworth” by Simon Van Booy.
Love finding someone else with similar book tastes. Great to hear you enjoyed reading Henna Artist because I’ve mostly heard middle of the road things about it. And it’s fallen off my radar for that reason. Never heard of Sipsworth!
@@GloriaZThompson Sipsworth is pretty new, if I'm not mistaken. I didn't think I would care much for it at first but it was just a sweet story that had a wonderful ending, IMO. :D
Finn will enjoy flip books as he gets a bit older!!❤ That was a stunning book. You are farther in Maisie Dobbs than me. I'm impressed. I recently started the 2nd one.
I'm so impressed by some of the fun interactive board books the library has these days. I'm zooming through the Maisie books, as they just are relaxing for me and fantastic audiobooks. Hope you continue enjoying the series!
I'm so glad you liked Jane of Austin! I always worry about giving a recommendation that they'll hate it 😬😂 I thought it was a lot of fun. It has stuck with me after all these years as a book I really enjoyed my time with. Thank YOU for your recommendations 📚♥️
Oh I'm so happy you recommended it; it was so fun! I know what you mean about recommending books to others though. That's why I have like zero "Recommendation" videos. I'm too nervous to be bold about it. Everyone's tastes are so different. But I love getting recommendations and appreciate it so much! 💕
I'm currently reading Sense and Sensibility. I wish my library had Jane of Austen. I'm enjoying Sense and Sensibility, I'm pretty sure I've read it before but it's been a while. I get what you're saying about the miscommunication (and lack of communication), but I haven't been too bothered by that aspect. I've laughed out loud at a few spots.
It would be the perfect gift! I bought it for my friend's daughters first birthday coming up. I have Love You Forever but haven't read it for Finneas yet. The copy I have is a flimsy picture book and he's a little aggressive with turning pages at the moment. 😅 So I'm saving some of those for when he's older so he doesn't destroy them right now.
I was also hesitant to read The Boys in the Boat b/c I also had no interest in rowing before reading it lol but yea!! it was so good!!! I've read every book by Daniel James Brown and they're all gripping!
That's good to know! I would be interested in reading more from him because he has a way to make me care about something I didn't think I cared about, ha!
I'm glad Most Agreeable Murder was the same in print as it was for me in audio---I couldn't stand the narrator, but honestly, it could have been the writing was the actual driver!
Cousins? Why?!?! 🤢I think Sense and Sensibility and the ‘miscommunication’ (which is a trope I can’t stand either) works precisely for the reason you said - it wasn’t seemly to discuss feelings or scandal as openly then, which is why Marianne and her sensibilities are the polar opposite to Elinor’s quiet and admired good ‘sense’ in the face of disappointment. If you like a film adaptation, the Ang Lee one is wonderful.
I know! That seems to be popping up more in Pilchers older books. I don’t like it! Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I agree. I definitely need to watch a film adaptation. I think it’ll make me appreciate the story more.
I feel the same way about Sense and Sensibility. The dialog just was droning on and on to the point where the dragged out sentences were boring and confusing. All the characters were stupid. I wanted Marianne to get a grip. It was my first Jane Austin book. Not impressed.
Haha, I love the honest thoughts. True! The audiobook of Pride and Prejudice narrated by Rosamunde Pike was a 10/10 for me and no other Austen has come close yet.
I loved the secrets of midwives but I was annoyed by the who’s the father trope! I didn’t care about her being unmarried. I cared that it was such a stupid secret and he pretty much was a nobpdy. A very nice nobody who deserved to know he had a kid!
The Boys in the Boat was my favourite book of 2023.❤
So good! I'm glad I finally got to it, and it was fun to read during the Olympics.

Love that it was set in Washington and I've visited the areas of Sequim and Seattle so often.

Wooot to Maisie DObbs! I'm saving the final book for when I *need* it

I loved Boys in the Boat! Yay for some good reads and that board book is amazing!!

Thanks for the encouragement to read The Boys in the Boat. I too have been putting it off, though everyone seems to love it. :)
I think there's a good chance you'll enjoy it!
I DNFd A Most Agreeable Murder for the reasons you stated. It was just too much for me. I remember enjoying Jane of Austin! It's been a while though.
Same, but on audio!
It wasn’t worth finishing let me tell ya!

So glad you’re enjoying it! You’d definitely love Jane of Austin then. Maybe the library can get it if you request it? Or the audiobook on Libby.
I really loved The Wolf Den trilogy from last month, but! I actually think you may like The God of the Woods.
It's getting sooooo much hype! I'm very curious about it and Liz Moore as an author. It may get read by the end of the year if the pressure gets me.
I love that board book! Luckily I have 2 soon to be moms in my family. That will be a perfect gift. TY! Have you read Love You Forever? It’s so good!

Yes, didn't work for me! I'll stick to more "serious" retellings.
Ugh yes, the miscommunication in Sense and Sensibility. 😒I realized my positive memories of the book must have come from the film adaptation 📖
I need to watch the adaptation! I usually enjoy them more than the book when it comes to classics. 🙃

Read the (the disease and the cure) by ibn alqayym You will not regret it
I want to like books like A Most Agreeable Murder and P&P&Zombies but they never get the voice/tone right.
That's a good way of putting it. Something about it is off for my personal reading tastes.

Totally on the same page!
