    My dog cries because of impatience - whenever she has to wait´or stand still on the leash she makes those loud noises!

    9 yrs I’ve done this routine with my white Swiss shepherd, every time I get home she screams her head off the other 2 know to get on their bed and be quiet I have to walk away at least 5 times it will take me 20-30 minutes to let her out till she is quiet on her bed She has always had impulse control issues she gets to a level 10 meltdown with most tasks like feeding time same thing and getting in the car , working lines can be painful . I’m so tired of doing it every day. Crying is my breaking point too .

    I also have unwanted noise as a personal Kryptonite issue (neurodivergent) and unfortunately this includes background music, which to me is almost always intrusive and distracting. If this channel is going to continue with this, could you please provide proper (non-auto-generated) subtitles so people can mute and still follow the content?

    I notice that all the dogs you work with in your videos are relatively big. I have a little dog. He is so strong willed and stubborn that he challenges me every single day. I have to work really hard to be the leader. Treats are the only thing he values, but only when he choises to accept them. However most behaviors are really good right now, except when riding in the car. He wants to go with me, I use a secure and safe seatbelt system and he is placed in the back seat. Once we are moving, he commences to whine, cry and kinda yodel and he does not stop until we arrive at our destination.. It is so high pitched that I have a headache after 5 min. As I am the driver and have to concentrate on driving, how do I remediate this behaviour?

    • @lisar2164

      You just described one of my little dogs, except he doesn't have a high pitched yodel, but barks, whine's and cries in the car the entire time. I would also like to know how to fix this.

      Same. Tried every training trick I could, nothing ever worked. He has two training courses ( auto control ) and also did agility, he knows the commands by heart. Otherwise, he’s on his best behaviour. I put this upon deep emotions he can’t contain being so happy to be going somewhere. Drives me crazy but I still adore him. Good luck to anyone having the same problem. 😊

    How would you handle dogs crying for attention, e.g. when I’m working/ doing something else? If I engage with them verbally / with eye contact to challenge them, doesn’t it reinforce their whining behavior? Should I intervene or just wait it out until the tantrum is over ?

    • @Alex-xz8wz
      @Alex-xz8wz Рік тому

      Have the toys nearby preferably a pull one or longer teddy. Get the dog to pull on the toy without you giving them eye contact and no speech while playing. Then keep this going for a minute or two and let go of the toy. If they drop the toy and bark or whine you then pick up the toy and start playing again no eye contact or speech. Repeat process until eventually they will learn to play by themselves and not disturb you while your working.

    • @AleseMarie919
      @AleseMarie919 Рік тому +1

      This is my question as well. It seems like any engagement whatsoever is a reward. I can ignore my dog when we are alone, but there are social situations where it’s not appropriate for her to be whining, and I feel like taking her outside to not disturb the gathering is a reward as well because she’s bored and going outside means exercise. I’m at a loss.

    • @Alex-xz8wz
      @Alex-xz8wz Рік тому

      @@AleseMarie919 Well you really need to think what is at the root of the behaviour. How old is your dog? What brings on the whining? Seek out a behaviourist who can assess your dog possibly.

    Our own, big, dog was getting calmer when we inherited a Shih Tzu after my uncle passed away. The little Gremlin would sometimes hype up our other dog and they would bulldozer out of the house barking, sometimes the Shih Tzu would stay behind and want to go back in the house, annoying little devil 🤬 As annoying as the loud barking from our big dog can be (it's very loud, I've wondered testing the decibels it can be so loud), the whining and crying from the Shih Tzu when he wants something make me almost lose it it's so grating on the ears. It is a sound for which I have a very low tolerance for. I would never choose to own a Shih Tzu, even though the whole family agrees, myself included, that our little Gremlin is actually a very good dog and an excellent alert dog, there's just something about Shih Tzu that I personally don't like, one of them being the crying 🤬

    Sorry for being a little off topic but what would you recommend first time dog owners to do before getting a dog? Of course they should pick a breed that fits their needs and be aware of the big responsibility. But do you think it makes sense to meet/talk to a dog trainer beforehand, to read some books about raising a dog etc. And would you recommend them to visit a dog trainer in the first few months or only when you're struggling?
    It would be great if you could make a video where you talk about it and the best way to prevent bad behavior in the first place.

    • @Creampuffization
      @Creampuffization Рік тому +2

      Not a dog trainer but I am an owner. Definitely would be a good idea to meet with a trainer before getting a dog. They can help you understand what and how to motivate your dog, training tips, canine behavior/ body language. Definitely wouldn't hurt to meet you've gotten a dog too. Be a good time to set up structure and foundation to a good obedient dog.

    • @Alex-xz8wz
      @Alex-xz8wz Рік тому +4

      I think it's great your thinking about all of this before getting a dog. If only more people thought this way ❤
      I think the breeder would be the most informed over what would suit you. They all show their puppy traits at a young age. Cheeky chappies, shy, relaxed. They would be able to give you more information on puppy training too if an honest breeder.
      Really things you need to think about before you get a dog.
      You need to be realistic who will be the main person looking after puppy and house training at home. Training a puppy takes patience and what method I used is called positive reinforcement training. They are pack animals and have a hierarchy. You have to be their leader and top of the pack. Simple things like you eating your breakfast/ before theirs. Strong body language and commands. When naughty behaviour say NO in a firm voice then distract with a toy (Positive reinforcement)
      You are better of doing the training yourself as when you start training simple commands like sit, lay down your bond will grow and grow. Training and socialisation continues throughout a dogs life. It's not so much oh yes let's get a dog and get a trainer you're bond with your dog would be much stronger had you trained it yourself.
      I also crate trained until I felt he was ready to be left alone in the house alone. I built it up in small increments. 5-10mins 15-25 ect..
      Hope this helps in anyway. All the best 👍👍👍

      Jamie, I think the most important things you can do are:
      1. Ensure you have as much time as possible the first month to work with your new dog, especially if they're a pup/juvenile.
      2. Control the environment. Have a crate with a small gated/controlled area, then a larger area (perhaps one room of the house gated off), then the whole house, a small controlled outside area (yard, preferably allowing a mix of on/ off leash time), then the larger neighborhood (on leash obviously).
      Assuming you aren't a nasty abusive person, then you're not going to "mess up" and "break" your dog if you're spending time with them and bonding.
      If you have patience and give them lots of love, you'll have a great relationship with your dog.
      Like any new thing, yes you'll make some mistakes and teach some bad habits, but they're correctable, not permanent! Identify problematic behaviors, go to a reputable source for info on how to correct the behavior, and put in the reps to change it.
      Will's advice and attitude is IMO far and away the best I've seen. You don't need to hire a trainer as long as you have the time and energy especially in that first month.
      Stop worrying about being perfect... No one is a perfect dog owner especially the first time. But if you have love and energy and make the time, you'll succeed (assuming you don't get some crazy breed or an older dog with major behavioral problems/aggression).
      I took my first foster pup on 24 hours notice. The rescue dropped him off with a crate and a few days of puppy chow and said "good luck!". It felt overwhelming at first, but after about two minutes you realize that these creatures are just mirrors that reflect whatever positive or negative energy you put into them.
      Judging by your questions I have no doubt you have a lot of love to give. So the only thing you absolutely have to do is make sure you have tons of time for them while both of you learn how to own a dog and be a dog those first couple weeks. Expect week 1 to be a 24 hour job, and the next few weeks to be intense and demanding and exhausting and wonderful and rewarding. The more you can clear your schedule the more enjoyable it will be and the easier the next few months will be.
      The only people who fail and become bad dog owners are true psychopaths with anger issues who abuse the dog verbally or physically, or, much more often, people who can't or won't make the time for the dog especially early on.
      If you get a new dog and immediately lock it up inside your home and go to work and social obligations for 8-16 hours a day... Well, good luck. You're probably in for a rough time.
      Make time, and control the environment. And be a loving leader. That's all you need to know. Figure out the rest as you go. Will is an amazing resource. Good luck! ❤❤❤

I had a neutered and took him to the vet and suddenly he was in critical condition with kidney failure because he had so many stones blocking his urethra and bladder… all he does is cry since he was treated and he’s learning to try to control his pee. He’s a real handful, but I just don’t know what to do about the constant whining.

    My dog like to bark at my husband when he refused to play with him. It's funny really
    Its like the dog has to bark st him to tell my husband hes wrong for not playing. Sometimes we tell him to stop barking. He will listen when we tell him. My dog is a terrible mix. We all enjoy these spirited arguments.

    But what do you do if what the dog is crying for is a person. He won't stop and just loses his brain function almost it seems, going from a clever dog to the most stupid I've ever seen just to be able to go near this person. It mostly happens upon arrival of said person or when the person moves to another section in house or outside the house and he's not allowed to come.
