      Steve was the smart one.. He apparently saw things coming when he made that deal. Good for him. Steve P. had made some comment about the way Neal lived his life. I think he said he was “relentless“. Hard to deal with someone like that. Plays a mean guitar, but it does seem like all the troubles they had stems from Neal.

Steve’s a lot smarter than we think, he got out before he looked like a train wreck…..look at all the older bands still touring everyone has to” Tune down a key “ for their aging singers….

    • @DrTomoculus
      @DrTomoculus 2 місяці тому

      @@dupersuper6516 I'm mainly going from that Behind the Music from years ago, where it seemed like Journey's management and the band were bending over backwards to make the guy feel at home, because they knew they had scored. And somehow, he comes out saying he felt "isolated". And you can tell, as soon as he joins that band, is when members start departing one after the other. And then the final straw when he boots out Valory and Smith.
      They're all old men now, fighting for their retirement. They won't have any left if they keep in litigation. But I personally lost a lot of respect for Steve Perry all the way back in 1986, when I saw Valory & Smith were out. I played in a Top 40 cover band that regularly played "The Girl Can't Help It", so I was almost "obligated" to do it. But I was done with them when that happened. I didn't know all the details, I just knew it was wrong. And that Neal and Jonathan went along with it, says just as much about them as it does him. So it's not even a band of people united together.
      It's a bunch of suits with gig bags.

I can clearly see Cain saying he had to call Steve and tell him he was out. I’ll have to find that interview or documentary. Steve never talks about it. The story is he just walked away. I’m with Team Cain on this one. Neal is a melody savant and a world class player, but he doesn’t have good financial sense. He dropped out of high school to play with Santana, so he’s not exceedingly educated. How many Lamborghinis does he have now?
    Now he’s got this dingbat wife, who strikes me as a money-grubber. Neal needs to grow up and get his spending under control. Cain should just take his cut and retire.

      Agreed. Let go back in time..Its a historical fact that Perry orchestrated Smith and Vallorys exit prior to recording ‘Raised on radio’ The narrative was he wanted a ‘different sound’ . Hmm Those two guys were seasoned talented musicians. They could olay anything……Vallory was a founding member so if true that never sat well with me. Smith started with Journey in 78. They were a big time act by then but Escape hadn’t happened yet. Almost every track landed on Billboard. He knew his voice was the driving force. One or two less share holders replaced by contracted side men earning a lot less than Ross and Steve. More in his pocket…Weird group of people actually. Ross comes back for decades. Steve Smith comes back for a few years. They both get fired….Still not sure of what happened even though I read the complaint. Better them than me. Smh

      Smith and Valory's move to take over the property of Journey doomed both of them!
      Perry, screwed over his bandmate's twice.
      The comeback album that charted extremely well on adult contemporary stations with a tour slated booked. His mother passes away, which is understandable.
      He informed the band he needed hip surgery and knew he knew that during the Trial recording sessions, he never disclosed he was having problems and needed surgery. Till they were to hit the road.

    This is more than just a feud. It's about an alleged theft and/or misappropriation of corporate funds. In any other industry, Schon, if the allegations are true, would not only be fired but would be prosecuted for theft. Using personal funds is one thing, but using corporate funds for personal use without authorization is illegal. Like any other corporation, why can't Cain and Schon simply draw a salary and then submit expense reports for reimbursement, which would either be approved or rejected, just like any other corporation? Just because you are an owner of a company doesn't mean you have automatic license to use the corporate funds for personal expenses. The corporation is not an ATM for personal use.

    Journey is just a nostalgia band. The real Journey ended when there was no more Steve Perry. Neal Schon thinks too highly of himself and all the newer crap he plays. I agree with Steve Perry's take on Journey, to handle Journey as a business based on the empire they created, while remaining a defunct band that's not playing anymore. I know as a fan of the real Journey, they became a parody of the former band they once were, when they continued w/o Perry. Age is a real thing and all bands have an expiration date, whether some of the members and clueless fans think so or not. Rock is a young man's thing. Look at how ridiculous Metallica looks and sounds now. It's just a cash grab for them now.

    A thought occurred to me earlier, the alleged coup by Steve Smith and Ross Valory. Was there really a coup, or did Neal just want to get rid of anyone who he considered 'equal authority'? Was Ross not a founding member, just like Neal? So now, he's got exactly what he wants, what he sees as HIS band because he's the only founding member left. He can hire and fire at will because there's no one to challenge him, spend as he wants because he's the 'president' of Journey, with no one to answer to. Maybe Cain isn't the real bad guy here. Perhaps hiring a forensic accountant would be the best way to go. Let someone with no vested interest come in and examine the books for the last decade and see what happens.

Anyway, my point is this greed and band members suing other band members because they wrote more or something they had more creative input for the band turns into lawsuits and division and band breakups. It’s a huge turnoff. Other bands I was a fan of did and are doing the same shit. Eagles, Judas Priest, Queensryche, etc. the one thing I can’t blame bands from the 70’s and 80’s, even as far back as the 60’s for is coming back and doing these farewell or reunion tours at advanced ages because they can make as much $$$ in 1 tour than in their entire careers
