I'm a big steve perry fan but we are holding onto memories of his greatness from over 30 years ago. The man is 75 now. I don't think he wants to compete with his young greatness.
If you listened to Steve's last solo LP, you'd hear that his range has dropped about an octave and a half, since his time in Journey. Unless he's planning on using some fancy pitched-up note-matching autotune effects while he sings, there's simply no way he can ever sing the hits of Journey again. It's time to let go of this fantasy some of us have for a triumphant Perry return.
@@mattwuxx3888I don't want to argue on that , but don't you think that an octave and a half is a lot? A step and a half is pretty low too, I heard him sing from some video online dated from about 2 years ago, and he is not even a step down. I am not saying he can hit all the notes he was hitting 30 years ago, but an octave and a half is a lot, take your piano, guitar or bass play a note, and go an octave and a half lower, and you will hear a huge difference.
I remember years ago hearing that Schon didn't like the way Perry was picking the songs saying they were too soft while the band was packing the venues and selling tons of albums while getting rich. Schon has always wanted to just be a heavy metal guitarist, which he wasn't. I'm pretty sure that is a big part of why Steve Perry left the band.
Neal is and should be the owner of the band Journey, if it wasn’t for Steve Perry Journey would not be where they are today. Steve is completely out of this drama but one good thing is Steve is still receiving his pay 💰!!!
sorry but journey never broke into superstardom until there ESCAPE ABLUM (where cain joined the band). so you might say. BIG DEAL, so he joined the band and played some keyboards. well, he may be the chief songwriter behind journey's biggest hits. it seemed to me more than half their biggest hits had keyboards as major part of the song (faithfully, don't stop believin, who's cryin now, etc). now, if cain didn't write any of the music, then I would agree with you. but I think he probably did. he wasn't the last one to put his mark on the song (a song that was mostly complete except for the keyboards). I think he was often the first. but I love schon. I am a guitar player. and there is no doubt he is a great songwriter to. but he's rock n roll. perry and cain where more of the POP rock type. very different. and I would say the pop rock focus is what pushed them to the top and kept them there.
@@wasatchm I agree J. C. is a collaborator writing some of Journey’s Biggest Hits. But back then they all had each other’s 6 now it’s every man for himself, just look how they pushed Steve out of the Band. But Steve was one step ahead head of all them. Steve still gets paid and doesn’t have to worry about killing his vocal cords. All in all Steve was the smartest of them all. Since Steve left Journey hasn’t been the same and never had a Hit song. So J.C. may still be writing the songs but they aren’t going anywhere because they don’t have the Voice to sing them.
Journey is Awesome.I watch them on You Tube everyday. The Gregg Rollie days the Jonathan Cain days.I love Neal but Journey was done to me without Steve Perry.Period.❤I hate Karaoke 😂😂
Let me hear you sing, Steve Perry is awesome but to call the current lead singer “karaoke” is a huge disrespect to Arnel, grow up man child and give credit where credit is due🤪
Neal is obviously jealous of the fame always going to Steve Perry for giving Journey the million dollar voice and Jonathan Cain for writing the million dollar hits. That's gotta hurt Neal's fragile mind. Even Arnel helped them out being a great vocalist for the band, but he's being treated like shit. Arnel should get out and start his own band or find another great band to lend his voice to. 🤷♂️
Of course Schon says it isn't true. Yet, he basically admitted it to the person who asked about it, saying he pays for it. Yes, Neal, but from WHAT account?
This would explain why he sold his main stratocaster he used on the Infinity album . And almost every other iconic guitar he used on Escape and Frontiers .
I'm sure Jon has a financial analyst on speed dial and has been tolerant of Neal's spending as long as it was covered by the revenue churn of the tour, after tour costs and Jon's cut. My bet is Neal is spending in excess of that...
I really hope it's true that every single time one of the songs Perry co-wrote is used live, he gets a cut. Dunno if that's true but hope so. It's more than fair as a cowriter and it was Perry's magic that rolled in the millions. He left and took the light with him. Can't believe these guys are in their 60s, 70s or whatever and spend their time bickering. (And Schon's face wtf he looks like an alien - just sayin' Perry is natural and still a handsome guy. He's well out of the mess).
From a big Journey fan (Arnel era included)... Def Leppard's the easy winner on that tour. Your in for a treat with them. One of the best held up bands from the 80s which is crazy considering the amount of substance abuse there. Also some of the genuinely nicest guys to work around or interact with, but thats a story for a different day
As a Journey fan (Arenel era included)... Def Leppard's the shining part of that tour man. They are easily the best 80s band holding up today sound and stability wise. Like you'd think boos and drugs would have destroyed them. But they are strong as ever! You may have a shot with Journey being good or not depending on the night and how pissed they are at each other. Def Leppard will make up for it all I promise you that much
@TheBlindAndTheBeautiful you're right. I saw Journey in St Louis, the first stop on the tour. Johnathan Cain looked angry, not his happy self. And that was the first stop on the tour. Hopefully they make it all the way
They are gonna finish the stadium tour but have already canceled their fall UK tour. I think its the end after the stadium tour. There is only about 12-15 shows left
What if Cain, Castronovo, Vallory, and Steve Perry got back together, teamed up with a great guitarist (who wasn't Neil Schon), and attempted to form a new band with a Journey-Esque sort of feel, with different songs. Not re-performing the old orig. stuff, but new stuff. Just breaking off from Journey altogether, to find a more cohesive sound, built with a familiar sort of brotherhood, and mutual respect towards each other? Anyone out there remember when some of the band member of Boston, went in together & created the band RTZ (Return to Zero CD)? Yes I know it was 1 album (I think, it was 1 that was put out anyway). Even though it didn't work out long term, it was still pretty awesome to listen to, I still have the cd somewhere. Over the years, it seems that the common problem has been Neil Schon, so maybe take him out of the equation, go back to basics. Hell maybe if not Cain or Castronovo, then what about Dunbar or Rolie? I've always thought it would be so freaking cool, to have the best of the best form a band, make new albums, & see how it would sound with a little bit of everything. Yes, I'm a Gen X'r, and YES, I MISS the original music. But maybe if they were to form something new, by putting egos and bygones aside, I would be so intrigued on what that would sound like. Just my 2 cents & thoughts. Thanks for the vid
I’m a huge Journey fan and have been for decades. I’ve always respected and appreciated the incredible talent in the band. But Neal’s reputation has preceded him for as long as I can remember. Some people just have a tough time handling fame. At this point in time, it shouldn’t affect my opinion of him or the band. But sadly, it kinda does. Like Don Henley and so many others, there comes a point when you have to stop and ask yourself, how much more money or notoriety do I really need? They shouldn’t have anything more to prove. Just enjoy your success and your place in music history. Chill the hell out and be a decent person. But I guess that’s too much to ask from him.
Sounds like we should all pitch in & buy Neal a session in the Dave Ramsey financial institute….it starts with a $1K emergency fund…2/3’s of his nightly hotel budget. 🙄 One of my best friends was an original member of Kansas, when they discovered that the limos & catered food came out of their nightly income, it was rental cars & Chick-fil-A from then on! 👍🤣
I saw Def Lep & Journey back in 2018. Even then, you had guys like Arnel, Ross & Steve Smith working to put on a cool show...and I suppose Neil & Jonathan Cain were too...but there was a real kind of chilly vibe compared to Def Lep. Reminded me of seeing Van Halen in 04. You could just feel like guys were just up there trying to get things done, and at odds...
Glad to hear it! Neal used him to promote sales, and short talks with Rollie coming back to Journey in Austin during the Anniversary tour! Then left town and Rollie!
When I pro musicianed in Los Angeles in the late 80s I ran into Neil with John Waite and Jonathan Cain. that was the beginning of the bad English days. I told my guitar player as we walked away, Neil is an ass. My buddy said why don’t you go back and kick his ass? I said yeah that would turn out well for me…. speaking of lawsuits.
Love Neal's playing he is an amazing guitar player hands down. That said he does seem to be the one who posts New Cars, Guitars and various other spending. That is not a crime to do but when you are locked in a you spend too much money case maybe tone it down!

It is interesting this past week. Journey canceled their UK, European tour with no information being released to why. Could it be because this internal strife is true, or is it some other factors. It is sad because Cain and Schon have had a great friendship and musical career, and it is getting torn apart. They need group therapy.
Not a cover band. They’ve produced albums. Steve is missed but it’s still Journey. Hats off to Steve for predicting the future. For years Neal was my favorite…

I have 20-30 or more Journey songs for a Favorite songs but My favorite All time is one of their least known & wasn't on any of their albums unless it was on a later collection or greatest hits. I hope would be the motto of the band & even their next album title...ONLY SOLUTIONS, that was on the Tron 1982 Soundtrack. I pray God intervene & help them to work this all out to Only find Solutions & admit where they've been at fault...the fans and music are more important than these internal feuds being made public
Well, I can tell you that cancelling a UK and Ireland tour isn't going to do a lot for their reputation. Seems they managed to do the dates the other side of the Atlantic. Thanks Journey.
Neal Schon,Greg Rollie and Ross Valory started journey They were not a profitable group at all and the manager knew that they needed something That something was Steve Perry. When he came into this band, he took them on a ride that they never anticipated The Journey group today still plays those old songs in the same key because Neal Schon doesn’t believe in changing the key of a tune it doesn’t matter if the singer is 20 or 70 you don’t change the tune of the songs When Steve Perry was with the group, he mostly did the lyrics at the beginning, so did Greg Raleigh they both did composure together Neil Sean always came up with his guitar solos Years later here we are now So Neil Sean’s attorney likes to say there’s no problem Yes, there is not paying your road crew spending money on a band credit card for a 10,000 a night hotel room that is ridiculous Does Neil have dementia? Does he believe he is back in the early 80s making all kinds of money or is it this wife Michaela? She likes her money a lot. As you can tell over the years, this has becoming tiresome, I think the band journey should retire, and let them ride off into the sunset 😂
I'm surprised they're not arguing over Bad English royalties too, the band did sell quite a lot of copies of the first album (did they do any more??). Maybe that's a whole other lawsuit.
@@BBaldwin Probably not. The royalties have likely dried up, though at this stage I wouldn't put it past those two to fight about the album (Schon and Cain) since they're involved with its creation & they're currently in a litigious mood.
And these are the two guys used to give Steve hell about having his own limo or tour bus and these are the same two saying about Steve that Elvis has left the building, well now the whole world knows why Steve didn't want to be around these two BEOTCH's while on tour !!!! They have really destroyed the name Journey.
Based on the court filings, it's clear what is happening here. It seems as though Schon, as Cain alleges, is spending Journey's operating funds (not his own money) recklessly, such that some of Journey's financial obligations cannot be met (i.e., payroll). If that is true, then Journey, like other corporations, is on the verge of bankruptcy. When the monthly operating expenses exceed the monthly revenue, the company runs at a deficit, resulting in the reduction of the cash reserves. If this is true, Schon, as an owner of the company, should try to cut his own salary/expenses so that the company's financial obligations can be met. I've seen this happen to major companies, and the result is bankruptcy or dissolution. This should never have happened to Journey as they have been on the road (excluding the pandemic year) continuously since 2007. Also, they have residuals from the streaming of their catalog. This is simply unfathomable.
And to think, prior to this latest development, you actually had people backing schon over cain basically because of his faith and his wife's connection to trump. Not even bothering to examine the facts of the matter. If this doesnt clearly give you a picture of who's the one bottling it over in Journey, nothing will.
I think it’s to the point where Neal Schon may be mentally ill. Jonathan should work out an agreement with Schon where they split up and both tour separately. You know, Neal Schon’s Journey and Jonathan Cain’s Journey. If that happens, Neal would be broke in a month. Then, it’ll be back to o e Journey again.
You are looking at people who haven’t lived like most of us do. Old spoiled brats who need to retire. Journey is a has been band. It’s time boys; just call it quits. If Aerosmith can do it, so can you.
If people would grow up and seperate the art from the artist, none of it would matter. If all you have is drama to keep your brand relevant, then you're worthless. And that goes for celebrities and non celebrities alike.
If it's Schon's own money paying for his things then there is no issue. If the band has a structured system and an account that the money comes from then there is a big issue.
Viewers, if you are a corporate attorney or accountant who deals with Business owners, you know and deal with this age-old problem with partnerships in your practice. The number one reason partnerships fail is over money. Partners either buy each other out or close the business. Worry about your money, and stop counting and commenting on someone else. It’s time to RETIRE the band. The last couple weeks videos in the USA 🇺🇸 tour are all the “Michaele Salahi Schon” show on steroids!
I’m sick of the constant infighting and will put my $$ toward STEVE PERRY as he’s hinted at getting onstage again.
I'm a big steve perry fan but we are holding onto memories of his greatness from over 30 years ago. The man is 75 now. I don't think he wants to compete with his young greatness.
@@CarlosRamTx Your opinion only!
@@rhondawilkins2017 Absolutely. Like I said I'm a big fan of Steve. I wish him the best if he chooses to go out and tour.
Its so sad, bc I love Journey.
They're such a great band!
What Journey was once is not what it is today. They really should call it a career lest they sully the reputation they’ve built for 50 years.
"What do you care I pay for it" So he does spend that much then. And I seriously doubt that's coming out of his personal funds.
My family knew Neal’s family in San Mateo, and they always pronounced it like Shawn.
Neal needs more plastic sugery…
lol- I was thinking the same thing
Probably putting all that Botox on the credit card too.
Schon. Rhymes with Don...Ron...Tron...and Bon.
No. Pronounced as Shawn.
Just a cover band without Steve Perry
Steve has move on, it’s a band called Journey with or without him give credit where credit is due.
Whenever I hear this story, I hear and see the video for Neils song No More Lies.
Just think how Schon would react legally if Perry put a band together that started playing old Journey hits :)
good thing Perry, Valory, and the other older members don't have to deal with this any longer
Neal is and should be the owner of the band Journey, if it wasn’t for Steve Perry Journey would not be where they are today. Steve is completely out of this drama but one good thing is Steve is still receiving his pay 💰!!!
Definitely deserving Mr perry working Hurd for journey band already without Mr perry no more journey 😂😂😂😂
sorry but journey never broke into superstardom until there ESCAPE ABLUM (where cain joined the band). so you might say.
Steve Perry is now being compensating for his pain and suffering. NS is he still with the reality show wife? Well blessed be his ❤❤
Neal should have stuck with Jan Hammer
What does one even spend 10k on at a hotel?!
Per night. What is he spending it on?
That’s insane no doubt
On Brown M&Ms.
Booger Sugar & High Class “Helpers”
Its pretty easy to do
Journey is Awesome.I watch them on You Tube everyday.
Neal Schon is a first class a hole!!!
Of course Schon says it isn't true. Yet, he basically admitted it to the person who asked about it, saying he pays for it. Yes, Neal, but from WHAT account?
And Deen should hook backup with the guys from Generation Radio…the best album I’ve heard in years!
It’s Neal’s band…..
I think you meant a forensic accountant. They chase down the money. FAs just analyze the corporation or trust's financial statements.
@@markriggs8371 - he never was the sole owner of Journey... and he still isn't..
@@buddfoxx5955 - FA = Financial Analyst.
Steve Perry - not Journey without his golden voice
Neal Schon has ALWAYS been a shyster‼️
Steve Perry was a great singer.
Steve Perry is probably so glad he doesn’t need to deal with this hot mess
they should have Retired years ago..............
Im literally about to see them next week man for the first time I hope they can stick out the tour!
Amen!
Please, no more Cain and his wife Paula.
Neal doesn’t look the same anymore with all the money he has spent on plastic surgery.
Ahora comprendo más a Steve Perry por qué lo desmotivaron en la banda .no lo valoraron 😢❤❤
I sense a breakup coming very soon.
This riff in the band, after they kicked out Steve Perry. Schon is the head case.
YT unsubed me from this channel. I love th3 content you put out.
I got to see them back in April I enjoyed it this was before I knew what was going on it was a Christmas present for the concert before my bday
The journey through time was short lived when Greg Rollie said Neil screwed him over 100 grand. And is suing him as well
Glad to hear it!
Hope they can work this all out. Love this band. Keep working on it...life is too short.
Its Schon...."shawn"...not SHONE
He’s been informed of this several times, in every video he makes about this band. But he continues to pronounce it that way.
plus he has TERRIBLE voice for broadcasting/public speaking,..all lethargic sounding,...and that drawl🤠🤠🙄😴
I don't even want to see them now, but I can't wait for Arnels Journey!!
Love Neal's playing he is an amazing guitar player hands down. That said he does seem to be the one who posts New Cars, Guitars and various other spending. That is not a crime to do but when you are locked in a you spend too much money case maybe tone it down!
Gregg, you got out before things got bad.
Retirement is a great option. I grew up a massive fan of journey. I’m still a fan of journeys music prayer to 2000. But at this point, I will literally would not go to a concert of theirs if I got free front row tickets and VIP treatment. It’s a karaoke band and has become a shit show.
Find out. Do another VID on what Neal is actually doing with the money. This is insane. There's always ONE person that's gonna F up a good thing. Crazy !!
journey is more corporation then a band now saw them few years ago one of worst concerts ever been to they were just going through the motions
It is interesting this past week. Journey canceled their UK, European tour with no information being released to why.
Could it be because this internal strife is true, or is it some other factors.
It is sad because Cain and Schon have had a great friendship and musical career, and it is getting torn apart. They need group therapy.
Of all of the Journey cover bands, this one is one of the best
Not a cover band. They’ve produced albums. Steve is missed but it’s still Journey. Hats off to Steve for predicting the future. For years Neal was my favorite…
@@johnlacy5993 When people heard "Oh Sherry" they thought it was Journey until they were told is was just steve. Do you think they would sell any tickets unless they found someone who sounded like Steve Perry ? The Band that is playing is just a Replica of Steve Perry.
How many hits have they had since Steve left ?
It would be the same as if Rush had replaced Getty Lee with a sound-a like. Queen changed its name to Queen Extravaganza.. Maybe Bon Jovi could go on tour without Jon Bon Jovi...lol..
When you find a singer to duplicate a bands lead singer.. it is a cover. The new Journey singer could do just as well without any of the other members if he had the legal rights to the name and went out on tour calling his band Journey.
@johnlacy5993 If they aren't a cover band then Neal Schon shouldn't have spent so much time, energy, & money looking for a Steve Perry clone. He should have just stuck with Greg Rollie, of whom I am a fan. I'm just not a fan of Neal Schon. The world is full of guitarists who could take his place.
Yeah it's sad I admire both Jonathon & Neal for their great talents & accomplishment, the great & even phenomenal songs they created with band members over the decades since Escape.
Neal Schon,Greg Rollie and Ross Valory started journey
They were not a profitable group at all and the manager knew that they needed something
That something was Steve Perry. When he came into this band, he took them on a ride that they never anticipated
The Journey group today still plays those old songs in the same key because Neal Schon doesn’t believe in changing the key of a tune it doesn’t matter if the singer is 20 or 70 you don’t change the tune of the songs
When Steve Perry was with the group, he mostly did the lyrics at the beginning, so did Greg Raleigh they both did composure together Neil Sean always came up with his guitar solos
Years later here we are now
So Neil Sean’s attorney likes to say there’s no problem
Yes, there is not paying your road crew spending money on a band credit card for a 10,000 a night hotel room that is ridiculous Does Neil have dementia? Does he believe he is back in the early 80s making all kinds of money or is it this wife Michaela? She likes her money a lot.
As you can tell over the years, this has becoming tiresome, I think the band journey should retire, and let them ride off into the sunset 😂
STEVE,MISS YOUR VOICE ,MR SCHON YOU LOOK LIKE EDDY MUNSTER NOW THAT YOU GOT YOUR NOSE DONE 😂😂
🙏 for Journey to resolve this snag and continue!
Remind me when was the last time Journey wrote a hit?
Ask steve perry, that's why he's at home racking in money and staying out of the drama
Early 90s I believe
The Way We Used To Be 2021 !
1996 When u love a woman with Perry
Hots for rock bands are over. It’s a Taylor Swift, Beyoncé world now.
They haven’t done any new material iirc since.
I'm surprised they're not arguing over Bad English royalties too, the band did sell quite a lot of copies of the first album (did they do any more??). Maybe that's a whole other lawsuit.
I doubt that album produces anything of note noways. Probably hasn’t in decades.
Schon sees everyone as replaceable. Sad. Steve p, Steve s, Ross v, and jonathan Cain should start their own band without schon.
Sounds a bit like a drug or gambling issue.
I watched the band last winter. Glad before something bad happens to break them up.
I think it's Neil's wife who causes him to make bad decisions. Do a search on her... she came with a lotta baggage.
@@vixstert.5642 Like Cain's wife isn't a complete nutjob herself. For that matter, so is Cain.
Over 50 years of music and now petty bickering over money, sad
You are looking at people who haven’t lived like most of us do. Old spoiled brats who need to retire. Journey is a has been band. It’s time boys; just call it quits. If Aerosmith can do it, so can you.
Journey is done.....
These guys fight and argue more than my ex and I.
Having nothing to base this on as I know no one in the band, but my gut says that Cain is probably more correct than not.
They should retire and call it a day. Journey was a great band, but it is only a shell of its former self.
If the band ends Neal will be in the poor house
Sad to see one of my childhood bands still fighting over money. Figure it out guys you're too old for this.
Has this band ever gotten along??
I think he’s maxing out on more plastic surgeries He looks very bizarre these days
If people would grow up and seperate the art from the artist, none of it would matter. If all you have is drama to keep your brand relevant, then you're worthless. And that goes for celebrities and non celebrities alike.
These two need to get a room already.
But in all seriousness, being in a band is harder than being in a marriage. Lots of politics afoot.
PLEASE …Neal SHAWN! your the only one in the industry who mispronounces his last name. I love your channel though:)
It's definitely annoying!!!
You're, not your (the only one in the industry). And yes, it's pronounced like, Shawn.
I'm a big Journey fan and was following them early (78-79') before Steve Perry - I play guitar and really liked Neil's work with Santana and his work pre and with Steve Perry. Sadly, will lost Steve early, and the band floundered for many years until Arnell was discovered. We are lucky to have had them this long. You're all welcome!
I hear the exact same music at Karaoke night !
In Neal Schon he was 17 years old he was at Woodstock and in Santana. Oye Como va. At leat black magic woman. Top 5 guitarist. Carlos Santana could easily be top 5 unless you think Neal Schon has had more sales more hits more versatile and a mentor to NS the fledgling guitar player. Mho
