Hi David, very helpful info. Just Subscribed. I am a seasoned Production Field Recordist and I have a ton of nature ambience and PFX that I've collected over the years. I'm wouldn't call myself a Sound Designer but I have done some work in that field. Where do you recommend I try to sell my clips of Nature Sounds, animal sounds as my work isn't necessarily music or sound design? Is there a way to cut out the middle man and sell directly to a client?
You can sell directly to clients or customers using something like Gumroad. I host my products on there. You can see it here: daviddumaisaudio.gumroad.com/. If you want to sell online, there are a lot of places you can have a look at. Just depends if you want to sell individual sounds or packs of sounds. If you want to sell packs, check out asoundeffect.com. If you want to upload individual sounds, check out motionarray.com. There are many many more, but that's a place to start.
if you go to the vendors that sell his libraries and you will find he normalizes to -3 db on average... Never normalize to 0 db as you don't know what kind of post processing a developer or sound engineer will need to apply to your audio
@@sineglitch I haven’t been dithering the sounds in my libraries. Looking into it though, perhaps I should, though I’m not convinced yet that it would make an audible difference.
Hello. Thanks for this video. I am wondering if you know if its ok to use Kontakt synths to create SFX for a sample pack. I understand you cannot use a raw sample and re-sell it. Thanks!
@@daviddumaisaudio Thank you. yes i did email them, they did say yes. But i assume any third party module has its own EULA. So will keep an eye out for that.
Cool video thanks !! I would like to know also what about license etc. So nobody can just sell the sounds that you create, without even tweaking it ? It's a little confusing, and i don"t what should i do.
That’s right. If you create a sound effect from scratch, unless you give the buyer permission, then they do not have the right to sell that sound effect or to layer/process it and then sell it. That's what the EULA is for. It outlines everything the license buyer can and cannot do.
There definitely is. If you check out sites like producerloops.com and bigfishaudio.com, you can find loads of these types of loops. That’s a good sign. Means lots of people are interested, looking for, and willing to purchase these types of products.
Thanks, that was informative and useful. FYI : I have uploaded a ton of very good Photos, videos, and high quality sound clips to Pond5 since many months and never sold anything. From what I see when I look around the net, it's very very difficult for most people to make any money them. So many folks doing badly on that platform, but I haven't given up hope yet. I guess it does demotivate me to upload more to P5 considering the time it takes to write descriptions and tags for each file. I have wasted hours and hours doing it, and so far haven't got one single penny back. I guess I have about 300 or so files uploaded and I'm not sureI want to waste any more of my time with P5, especially considering the further time it takes to record and edit the sounds. I think so many people use Pond5 that every time you upload a file it disappears into a black hole with many many thousands of similar files. It's almost impossible to be found, and the bigger sellers will always appear first in any search list.
Hey, yea, I’ve also heard that for many sellers, it’s really hard to make money on the platform. I wasn’t aware of this. It kind of sounds like new sellers are basically left in the dark and their work disappears into a black hole like you said. But, 300 uploads is really not a lot for stock sites like this, unfortunately. You ideally need thousands to get traction going. Also, you can save yourself hours of work by using something like Soundminer to fill in the metadata. Once your sounds have all the metadata filled in, P5 reads it automatically and applies it to the file. The upload process is then really quick. I can literally upload hundreds of files in minutes doing it this way. Hope this helps.
@@daviddumaisaudio Thanks David. I know it's not a lot and I've probably got more than 300 listings (haven't looked for ages). The biggest issue is that my stuff isn't even being viewed, so it gets very demotivating to carry on. I re-checked the tags on many files and can't understand why none of it is being seen. I think there's just too much there and the popular creators and best sellers will always appear in the first pages of search results. When I hear about so many other people only earning pennies (or nothing at all) with thousands of listings, I have to wonder if I'm wasting my time. Especially considering P5 takes a massive chunk of the sale money. Anyway, I just applied to be a Motion Array creator and uploaded a few sound packs for review. I need to wait and see if I'm accepted, and if so I and hope I can do a bit better with them.
This'll be great for posting game audio packages in case I don't do the implementation.
Thank you. You create interesting content

Thanks for the tips. 👍
What about levels of the sounds? Do you normalize each sound to +-0 db, or do you give some room for headroom?

I personally would be more interested in if he dithers the sounds in the libraries knowing they could be mixed and mastered at a later stage.

Yes, as far as I’m aware. Always safer to read the EULA or just email and ask.

Hi, do you think there's a demand for a pack of guitar loops? that I'd sell as a digital product? I'm thinking of doing one with 30 loops at 30€.

Hello thank you for this video but you are talking about soundly but on the screen you are showing Explorer … 😅
Lol. Oops :p. I put the wrong clip there. I mixed up Sound Particles Explorer with Soundly.
Hi, David. Do you think artificial intelligence could replace sound designers who sell sample packs online?
In the future (10+ yrs), perhaps in some capacity. For now though, I don’t see that happening.
slow down 😄
Super Beitrag.Alles Gute.Grüsse aus Cottbus.
