I don't know how the alogorithmic gods served this up, but this was fascinating!
I’m totally inspired. I’ll do the sounds of photography, from switching lenses to the click of the shutter. I have a drinkware collection so I’ll ting different glasses. I’ll get out the old toys and block collections, record the snap of LEGOs. I’ll record my hand tool collection, the sound of ratchets. The exercise equipment. Cleaning sounds. Snipping weeds in the backyard. I appreciate this video. So much to explore.
Hi Yenra! That sounds so much fun and also a lot of work recording and editing all these sounds you just mentioned. But in times likes this, its a great way to get distracted. I'm starting to edit my piano sounds this weekend.
You are as good as possible! Its nice to have a fun guy who has interesting ideas on UA-cam. Big respect
This is so great!!! Thank you so much for great ideas!!!!
Awesome video, very inspiring. Just the kick in the butt I needed to get back to exploring the world of recording sounds.
So great to hear that :) Now get out and record some sounds... :)
Man, thank you so much for this video😁 This reminded me of when I did a project in college to record my own sample library from in and around my home. I think remaking this would be a great way to get back into sound recording and hopefully get my start!
Hi Liam! Thank you so much for watching and yes go out, or stay in to record these sounds :)
I just by chance happened to watch your Iceland video this morning. That led me to your sound effects library! I downloaded 2 for a short film I'm trying to make. Then I downloaded some of your podcasts. Then driving today with my wife we listened to 2 of them. They were great stories! My wife is not even into the arts but wanted to hear more. Then I got home and watched so more videos from you guys. Then I subscribed. All just by 1 chance click. I hope you 2 don't get burned out by creating sooo much content. To me this channel would make for a really interesting reality show ( Maybe thats already what this is?) Maybe one day you could do a novelty sounds album with things like, throwing jello against a wall, running a lawnmower over a pumpkin- hey even popping lightbulbs with your boots,...Hahah
I just love your channel and your bright personality it makes watching your videos fun. Please keep it up
Thank you!! ❤️
I think this is by far the coolest use I have seen of the geofon on your channel so far, talking into the heater.
Thank you! :)
Lovely channel, I started with your Thailand trip 👍 👍 (putting my old H5 with SSH-6... ordering the Korg CM-300 and thinking about the Float32 of the new Zoom...)
I just got a zoom h6 to record song ideas between multiple instruments quickly and maybe even band practices. But watching this makes me want to record the world and make music samples out of anything and everything. I subscribed due to your positive and inspiring personality! Take care.
Thats awesome! :)
Inspiring!!!
Thank you for sharing those tips.
It was a pleasure and thank you for watching and stopping by. :)
your enthusiasm's contagious...great content bro! thnx
Thank you!
I'm so Inspired by what u do.... I'm also a Sound Recordist 🎧
great video! very inspiring
Thank you for watching!
Amazing video and information !! Thank you!
Thank you for watching!
So many new ideas! Thank you :)
Thanks for watching :)
I watched the video and several times, I smiled. The voice through the heater was amazing. As a professor, I give this video an A+. You Make an excellent teacher. This world of sound video, hidden and likewise, is outstanding. Thank you for demonstrating these and the equipment.
Wow, thank you! That is so nice to hear and we have more videos coming up! :)
Yeah, this is at least my 3rd time watching!
Hidden Sounds :)
Yes! Room tone video please!
Working on it Eric! :)
Your voice through the radiator was a blast 😂 Now I have to try that 👍
Ha Ha yeah! Stuck in the heater :)
Makes me wanna buy a geophone and create impulse responses for convolution reverb by clapping through stuff like that heater
@@RileyGein ...great idea 💡👍
Thank you 👍👍👍
You are welcome!
I love how passionate you are about what you love 👌👌👌 How do you remove background hiss, room tone etc. ?
If it's a part of the ambience, I usually leave it in to preserve the authenticity of the recording. But when it comes to microphone self noise, it's a different story. I have found Bertom Denoiser to be a great tool for handling such issues. It does a fantastic job without compromising the quality of the original sound.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks, now I have door lock envy.🚪🚪
Ha Ha Ha :)
This is so cool, you know what? After i got the AKG contact microphone, I started to notice my appartment differently. Wnenever i swing a door open and it has that creeking sound, i emmediately put the mic on and record :) Also very handy if you want to record knife sounds that are really disturbing ;)
That’s awesome!!
Thank you so much for this inspiring video. What system would you recommend to catalogue the sounds?
Hi! I just made this video UCS and how I edit and name my recordings. I hope it helps?
ua-cam.com/video/5WRlLx-yDOI/v-deo.html
Nice video, this is a great idea about getting started.
Could you do a video of where/how to sell the recordings from your sound library plz? Or maybe you already have video on the topic? 🤔
Thanks
Hi! I could do a video about this for sure. I haven't done it yet but I personally have my own stores and work with other sound library brands.
The sound of the fridge running would be interesting
Great sounds for sound design or music production.
Love it. Recorded a small desk fan that when you wipe the H6 past it back and forth sounds a lot like a Star Wars light saber... what to do next? ha ha
Reverb!!! :)
This is gold! My dream is to craft audio stories, with narration and sounds, but since I don't have any kind of formation in the field, I'm picking up elements and ideas from youtube, and just trying different things in order to learn and figure out my path. I've got a Tascam DR-07x, and a Shure SM58 to connect to it. I'll see what can I do with those (but I'm sadly discovering that those two things are not the ideal combination... maybe I should sell the Shure microphone and buy a microphone that works better with the recorder).
Hi Cristobal! Well the Tascam is not a bad start but feel free to check out the video about the AT 4025 that I did. You can get a recorder with 2XLR inputs and you are set.
@@FreeToUseSounds Thanks for your reply! The AT 4025 looks awesome, but firstly I need to learn how to do stuff with more affordable devices, like the Tascam I've got already. There's a lot to learn, and I think it would be unwise to spare more money without really knowing what I'm doing haha. In fact, that's what happened when I bought a recorder and a microphone that doens't work well together. By the way, I discovered your channel like a week ago, and I'm listening to your podcast as well. I love both! Greetings from Chile!
11:15 was worth the video
I have the equipment and a home... Plus a bunch of cats.... And the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens nextdoor! That should be my first 3 sound libraries...
How would I sell them? Bandcamp, Pond5.....
Actually one day I found out the pastaplates of my former flatmate had a very nice conistent tone so I recorded them with various exciters and micpositions. I also did velocity layers and round robins. Then I ran them through RX and Melodyne to clean and pitch them. In the next weeks I will finish them within a Kontakt instrument.
Oh wow! I just watched a video about how to make your own Kontakt. I'm starting to edit my piano sound recordings and I'm not sure if I should just release the wav files or create a Kontakt library. But I do know I need the NI ecosystem, 5 or 6. Any alternatives you can think off?
@@FreeToUseSounds With Kontakt 5 you´ll eventually reach more people than with Kontakt 6, but Kontakt is still a big paygate. You can try the decent sampler from David Hilowitz´ Decentsamples. It is quite new and free. But still in beta. If you do not need any specific effects within the sampler or some playbackengines, this could be the way to go, when it´s done. David has also tutorials on his channel about programming Kontakt, if you want. The Logic sampler with its .exs is also quite widespread but only a few sampler on windows can import this format.
@@mxp1837 That is soooo crazy! I watched his video today about him sampling two cups and how to make a Kontakt library. I check out his decentsamples. He has a really cool channel that is not discovered yet from a broad audience. Such treasure.
@@FreeToUseSounds Yeah, I learned a lot about Kontakt from his channel. I really do not want to do any advertisement, but there is also a community led by Spitfire Audios co-founder Christian Henson called painobook about sampling and sharing organic and processed instruments. All free and mostly Kontakt-based. He also has a big YT-channel. Both a wealth of instruments and knowledge!
@@mxp1837 Any infomation or other UA-cam channels are super helpful. Not only for me but also for other reader. So thank you for that. I check out the other channel right away.
I tried recording the kitchen kettle, filling it with water and boiling it. I had one competitor, the hum of the fridge (or freezer?).
Easy to turn off when recording but don't forget to turn it back on :)
On the H6, is there much of a reason for field recording to go with the SGH-6 shotgun mic capsule vs the XYH-6? Other than more pinpoint of pickup, for field work, when do you switch or not?
That is a good question and since both have a different microphone pattern, we can use them for different reasons. I never had the stereo shotgun but I would go for the mono version if I focus on sound effects.
Do you ever get overwhelmed by all the possibilities that each source can provide and give up?
Hi! It can get overwhelmed sometimes but its also exciting to have so many possibilities and sounds I can provide to other creators who don't have the possibilities getting these sounds.
I’m just curious as to how you organize these sounds as your recording them, how do you keep track of what it is on the card, and afterwards how do you organize and store them?
Hi! We made a video about UCS and Metadata. You can find the information in that video as well.
Great Video!
What do you put on the contactmic to hold on the things?
I use BluTac. That’s really good.
Thanks for your really fast answer. Will check it out
@@jonathanmuller3994 You are very welcome! :)
Hi! What device do you use when recording electromagnetic radiation?
I use the Priezor like in the video, the Soma Ether and I have a Electroslush Mini City.
Great video. Inspiring me
Thank you for watching Giancarlo! :)
I'm going to start my own library, but then what do I do with it?
Recording sounds is only %30 of the work and its all up to you what you are going to do with the sounds.
👏
Thanks! :)
Awesome video, thank you.
I have a question: when to use mono mic, when to use stereo mic please? And not only at home. It might not be as obvious as it “sounds” - it's a bit confusing for me. Also, cardioid or omni, which one is for what. Thank you for your help. I am aware the subject is vast, so maybe it's an idea for a vlog? One question calls for another: I can make stereo with two mono mic, or it's better to use a single stereo mic? Again, THANK YOU for your help.
Hi Leemski! I’m out now recording sounds and I get back to you on that question later tonight.
@@FreeToUseSounds Great, you are fantastic! THANKS
@@FreeToUseSounds Hi, I hope you are doing well and your recording day finished well!
Just waving a little hello here from afar to remind you my question about mono and stereo mics. Thanks!
@@leemski Oh so sorry! So for microphone basics you can check here helpwiki.evergreen.edu/wiki/index.php/Microphone_Basics but there also UA-cam videos about the different microphone types. You can use mono to record sound effects but also if you want a more direct sound. For example there is a cicada sitting in a bush and you want this sound very narrow. You don't want to use a stereo microphone because this will pick up the ambience around it. Same with birds. And yes if you use two mono microphones and connect them on the recorder, you get a stereo signal.
@@FreeToUseSounds No problem! Thanks a lot for taking time in responding to me. You are concise and clear, very very helpful.
May I ask another question: about the cable length, it is not about the quality but the efficiency/comfort length when we go for the field recording - XLR cables are pretty heavy and bulky when long. So by your experience what do you prefer to use when you travel or go for field recording, please? Vielen Dank :)
hi! I wanted to buy an audio recorder for the field, ambient and general recording (podcast, etc.). Which is better for a beginner like me? H4 PRO?H5? H6? also, I saw your video about stealth recording? can I do it with the choices above? what binaural earphone can you recommend (considering the options above) ? I have Sennheiser but it only works for iPhone :( Thanks a lot! :) :)
Hi! For a beginner you can choose between these recorders. They all 3 great. No it depends on your budget which one you like to choose from. For binaural you can use them as long as you have the 3.5mm jack in the capsule of the XY microphone.
The Sennheiser Ambeo is great and but you can also check out the Soundman OKM Rock Studio that I have or the Roland CS 10 EM. If you watched one of hour latest videos "Field Recording On A Budget" we showcase the Soundman together with a Zoom H1n. Here is the link ua-cam.com/video/xDFCaJN_-sk/v-deo.html
@@FreeToUseSounds I did check it - turns out soundman is much more expensive compare to H1N :)
@@pizmos2177 The H1n is the recorder you would need in order to use binaural microphones.
@@FreeToUseSounds Thank you! I ordered already H1N and roland CS 10 EM :)
@@pizmos2177 Thats awesome and a great choice for indoor recordings.
I have 4 cats and 3 kids... I'm sure the sounds I can record are limitless. The woodstove too
Oh yes if it comes to sounds, you have endless possibilities.
@@FreeToUseSounds 1 year ago! I need to start.
So great! Just one question, how do you process the sounds?
Oh yes I use Adobe Audition, Reaper and Ableton.
@@FreeToUseSounds Oh, questions never stops: can you tell us which app for what editing purpose, please? Thank you!
@@leemski Well that depends. I use Audition, Ableton and Reaper.
@@FreeToUseSounds Could you be more specific please about those apps and their use in your workflow, and it depends on what? Thanks!
@@leemski Well, Reaper and Ableton for sound design or if I like to make patches, synths and beats. Audition for editing the sounds.
fuck man youre doing a very good job, my girlfreind want to be a sound desginerin in her dreams, she is working for it and trying but its so hard to be get there or?
Marcel, we've been talking about sounds and sound effects but also there are visual scenes. On a scene a driver and passenger are in a car. There is dialogue between the two and two cameras are catching each actors performances. The car is showed traveling but, and here it come, the gear selector is in the park position. Drives me crazy! I know how this performance is recorded, the car is strapped down on a low trailer. But the gear shifter needn't be in park. To me, is ruins the whole scene!
Hi Dale, ah yes that ruin the movie. Which movie are you talking about? Of you have Netflix check out the new Drama “Taxi Driver”! It’s amazing.
Marcel, you asked which movie am I talking about? Sadly, to many, some of the best directors have been guilty of this gaff. I also have several studio mics just in case. I've had a couple for many years. Shure SM 57's and SM58's included. Also, Shure SM7's. I have some AKG condenser's shot gun medium and long styles.
