I just bought these. An absolutely incredible set of wide variety of sounds! I was interested in the background of who made these sounds, and here I am. 🥰
THANKS! I've been distracted about my passions for about 40 years, now i'm 56 and consider not late to begin... i've got a project of creating audiovisual content but focusing a little bit more on audio... You helped to increase my motivation... again THANKS A LOT from Argentina!
I hardly leave comments but this video is genuinely inspiring and it empowers small beginner creators like me. I do have a Zoom H1 from a decade ago and would like to use it more now to explore what are my passions in this creative journey and not worry about how to make a living out of it but let it come naturally. Thank you for sharing your story!
Field recording is one of the most wonderful things because you go outside and suddenly become SO MUCH MORE aware of your environment. I have been doing this since i had a little Cassette recorder with stereo mics and at first i only did it to have my own Foley Sounds for my own audio- and film projects. But it really has an effect on you too. In 2009 i had gotten a little second hand MiniDisc walkman from Sony and took it everywhere i went and recorded things with a little T.Bone ST40 stereo mic and often listened to these recordings when i was laying in bed. I loved that and also the process of recording any kind of environment. You hear things differently and it almost becomes an out of body experience where time somehow doesn't exist anymore. The best thing is when you turn these recordings into an audio story and basically going on a journey with your eyes closed and only with your ears.
Oh yes I already requested the recorder and hope that it arrives. But shipping to Iceland can take a while. Still waiting for a package since over a month.
Awesome message. Just bought myself a Tascam DR-05X to start recording sounds for my electronic tunes I make. This is really what I need to see to get myself out of a slump of drinking heavily 3-4 times a week and struggling to make my music because often I'm recovering from a big night out. Thank you, this is very uplifting, and I totally agree with what you say about passion.
I'm a beginner videographer and I'm so glad UA-cam algorithm brought me here! Your advice about starting as a beginner gave me much more courage. I also have a Zoom H1n recorder for past 9 years and never really used it. I'm gonna learn how to record video footage with excellent sound captured. Thank you for this video. Subscribed!
I loved everything about this video. I got a Zoom H5 many months ago, First Recording was deep in a forest, The Sound recording was incredible. The birds and sound are magical. I must get back out again. From the UK
I stumbled onto this site and now it’s one of my favorite UA-cam places to be. I have a collection of recorders. In 2010 took my Tasman DR100 on a trip to Uganda to record choirs. Did a whole CD on children’s choirs with it. It was fantastic. Now I have the Zoom H1n , the H6 and most recently the Q8. Been using these as backup recorders for live events but you have inspired me to do more with my Zoom family. Thanks
Ah that is so cool! Yes the Zoom F6 is a great field recorder and super cool that you enjoy it the same then I do. Lets make sure someday we are on a recording session together.
I just did the same thing you did , traveled in another country whith my lovely zoom h1n in my bag and felt the same things that you said about the scapes while i was recording , that feeling is amazing. Thanks for sharing your experience!!!
I stumbled across your channel just now. I’ve always been obsessed with recording sounds, and you have inspired me to further this passion of recording sounds.
Great video. I'm retired and because I worked so long in a steel mill I have a constant ringing in my ears. 24/7 7 days a week all of the time. Its about as loud as someone talking maybe 5 meters away. I used to turkey hunt but cannot hear them gobble unless they are right in front of me. So, I don't do that anymore. I live way back in the woods at the head of a valley which acts like a giant speaker. Last night I heard a pack of coyotes kill something. It sounded like a rabbit but 10 times louder and I don't know what it is. I recorded it on my phone. Your video made me realize that my neighbors make sounds that no one ever hears. I never thought about that before. I am now interested in this field, thanks to you.
I’m so sorry to hear about the ringing in your ears! Have you tried sound masking with other frequencies, like waterfall or ocean sounds? I always carry a Zoom H1 in my backpack. It's a little beast and small so it is always with me. I first seen it being used to record Foley sounds for the Blade Runner 2049 movie in one of their behind the scenes videos. Yep that's right, the sound designers used it in the opening sequence of that movie to record the water boiling on the stove. The moment I seen the ZOOM logo I googled it and found one at my local store... I never ran so quick to get it. Since then I use it for work and side projects. Love your channel and great video :)
Literally feel so called to the power of sound. Your excitement and pure joy speaks to me my bro! . I literally picked up the H1n and have been starting where I can. Thanks
I've been following your videos for years, the world of audio recording in the field has always fascinated me, I have a passion for music and audio equipment for live events, I also deal with mixing and mastering in the recording studio and thanks to your videos I discovered a new world !!! a few days ago I bought zoom f6 and I'm starting to record! thanks for letting me take this new adventure.
I rarely leave comments but I have to say that you are truly inspiring and make incredible recordings and content! I am watching so many of your videos. I have learned a great deal from you and I have bought a lot of my own field recording gear based off of your videos. Please keep making this content and chasing your passion and again thank you so much all you are doing!
I’m very happy for you my friend, I am on my personal journey with sound and seeing someone so passionate about the same things I am brings me joy and motivation to keep pushing for my own goals, keep it up my guy!
I recently got an H1n for a music project and discovered how much fun it is going around recording things, hitting things together to see what sounds you can make and just listening to the sounds of life :-)
Thanks for this video...very inspirational...makes me nearly want to quit my day job and become a sound recordist!! The first time I tried to record a sound effect it was of a bunch of chickens...we went to a farm..recorded the sounds..drove home....played it back and discovered horrible pops and wind noise! I thus discovered that wind protection was a thing...and so was using headphones to monitor! Well done...I love the story...and that 'learn as you go' approach!
So beautiful! Amazing and a great encouragement to everyone and anyone who has a passion. Just do it and amazing things will happen. Thank you! A lot of love here too!!!
I love my Zoom H1 I loved it so much I bought 3, then I had one stolen in Berlin with all my clothing luggage (Luckily my camera backpack was with me on board the Flickbus :) I was so sad because I had just made a fantastic story/interview in Paris and the sound was amazing. I was stupid to put it into my clothing bag but I was in a hurry that morning packing... I also have the Zoom H4n which was my first zoom and I also bought a Zoom H6, 2 years ago. Like you, I didn't realize how important sound was until I started really listening and recording and then listening again and again and again. Thank you for caring enough to share with us, your passion is evident which makes watching/listening to this so much more enjoyable :D Kind regards. Hugh
Hi Hugh! Oh so sorry to hear that with the stolen luggage. Yeah we took a bus several times and always kept the valuable belonging on us. Also, I always waited outside until the bus driver closed the luggage doors because that is always a tricky situation.
Hi Marcel. I just want to say that your passion and enthusiasm is infectious! I recently just purchased the Tascam 40 DX and will be using it for the first time this weekend to record some nature sounds for a radio programme that I'm working on. I was feeling a little overwhelmed diving into a new area of recording but your video has put me at ease and has me more excited than ever to start this new journey. Love your channel and congrats on what you've achieved and the truly outstanding content that you and Libby provide. 👏🤟
That’s the way, doing what you love to do. No matter what the rest of the world could say about your passion of life. That’s the way to be happy, doing what you like to do best. Keep doing and thinking this way 👍👍👏👏
I just buy zoom H8 to start making vlog & podcasting and then.. I found your channel. Your story is very inspiring!! And then I think.. why don't we maximize the H8 and start field recording too? Your channel is open new world for me and I have to learn a lot from you. So gratefull..! Thank you very much & greetings from Indonesia!

I am SO inspired by you and your enthusiasm that I am going to use what I've got already and get better at sound recordings - I have been a photographer for over 15 years and the two passions can thrive together! Thank you for your channel and sharing your passion!
Enjoyed the video. I've been wanting to make my own ambient recordings for personal enjoyment. I finally broke down and recently bought a Zoom H1n. Just got it delivered today. I have some woods areas with running water to start with. Some great ideas here. Thank you.
just got this recorder and trying to implemented to start vlogging or doing nature videos with the sounds of the recorder. thank you for this! I need to learn a lot
Last saturday got my first Zoom H1N as purpose to record different kinds of sounds! :) And also I don't have any knowledge about recording, editing or anything else but gonna learn a lot step by step so I can do something fun with the sounds. This video is amazing, helpful and inspirational! So thank you!!! :)
Such a great video! Wonderful work Libby! Smooth camera work, interesting wide and closeup shots, and some fun cinematic sound effects. Fun titles and graphics too! Thanks to both of you for putting this inspiring retrospective together.
i love the sounds you are producing. They are very calming. Could you maybe publish asmr videos where only a specific sound can be heard, or maybe a playlist with sounds that go well with each other. I think many people would actually like that.
Brother and Sister, thank you for being you, following your dream, inspired to bring it to life to share with the world. Like you I am obsessed with the sights and sounds of life, in my case I have been recording the sound of the human voice informally through the Olympus USB recorder since 2001. I sense by writing this right now, I will new adding a new podcast or audio channel to our community site soon. Would you mind if I mentioned you as my source of inspiration?
What a great story Sir! Based on your video on the AudioTechnica BP4025 , I've just order that mic to compliment my BP4029 stereo shotgun. Like you I have a passion , which is video and good quality sound, which makes all the difference! I shoot a lot of railroad related footage, so the sounds can be challenging , but very rewarding when you capture all the details. Thanks for sharing your passion with us, it is inspiring and I will be taking the 4025 out in the field to capture some great sounds! Cheers Gregg.
I started with the Zoom H4n and it lasted me ten years before I felt the need to upgrade. It's still my backup recorder and hasn't ever failed. I'm surprised you haven't sold your older gear to keep the packing light.
Hi Ken! These Zoom products are overall great and the Zoom H6 went with us trough so many countries already. No issues. I sold the F4 and a couple of microphones along the way. The SAAM is back in the US and the parabolic dish has a microphone failure and is in Paris.
Till today youre the only one i think who gave honest infornation to newbies like me.most of the youtubers give lots of info but dont tell thd secrets...redpect man and yeah...im a sub...and youve got a like also....👍👍👍👍👊
AT4025 is good if you like XY stereo. I'm more of a MS guy, so the Shure VP88 mid-side stereo condenser mic is my go to stereo field recording mic. You can use the included width matrix, but I like recording M-S hard L/R so I can matrix in post. Fabulous mic. Not cheap. But worth it if you are as totally into field recording as you obviously are! A good budget alternative to the VP88 is the Zoom H2n field recorder that has built in MS as well as surround recording.
Love the passion in your eyes ;) Can you recomend what kind of mic should I use to create no talking bushcraft videos? It should record the sounds of nature and at the same time the sounds of putting tent, cooking food, etc
I bought 2nd hand Zoom H6 included SGH-6 and then I just amazed. I love it, and Zoom H6 is my gate to the new world of recording. I use H6 a lot for my field recording hobby and project in my college. Anyway, I love your inspiring video for me that want to start the field recording!

I’m so sorry to hear about the ringing in your ears! Have you tried sound masking with other frequencies, like waterfall or ocean sounds? Enjoyed the video. I've been wanting to make my own ambient recordings for personal enjoyment. I finally broke down and recently bought a Zoom H1n. Just got it delivered today. I have some woods areas with running water to start with. Some great ideas here. Thank you.
Ah that's awesome! We're making a new video about the Zoom h1n soon. Especially how to set gain for beginners.
just got this recorder and trying to implemented to start vlogging or doing nature videos with the sounds of the recorder. thank you for this!
Hi! That sounds awesome and I hope you can record many sounds with it! We will release more videos about field recording in the near future :)
I like your work. Greetings from Greece!
Thank you so much!!
Such a great video! Wonderful work Libby! Smooth camera work, interesting wide and closeup shots, and some fun cinematic sound effects. Fun titles and graphics too! Thanks to both of you for putting this inspiring retrospective together.
Thank you so much Scott! We had so much fun making this video and knowing that and others enjoyed it gives us the motivation to create more. :)
i love the sounds you are producing. They are very calming. Could you maybe publish asmr videos where only a specific sound can be heard, or maybe a playlist with sounds that go well with each other. I think many people would actually like that.
Amazing, pure inspiration!
Thanks again :)
Yes that boat is amazing
Thank you for watching Ryan!
Would you mind if I mentioned you as my source of inspiration?
great story (and advertisement). very inspiring. thanks for sharing!
Thank you for this video I feel lifted my spirit I feel passionate and confidence to persuit my dream again.
Please do it!!
I am always amazed what the microphone picks up which the ears don't hear. Headphones are amazing when monitoring all sounds.
Oh yes and the Sennheiser microphone are amazing!
Love the opinoin regarding passion and equipments.
You are a cool dude, thanks for sharing your experience!
Thx for this video, your are very motivating! I use the H1n for my music and I like it very much!
Nice vídeo, nice vídeo, tks for share!
Till today youre the only one i think who gave honest infornation to newbies like me.most of the youtubers give lots of info but dont tell thd secrets...redpect man and yeah...im a sub...and youve got a like also....👍👍👍👍👊
Thank you Danny but there is still more to tell. Stay tuned :)
Wow! Great audio and dialogue. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for watching!! :)
Sounds like a low cello base sound. I am really getting into this. I like to re-use natural sounds in my compositions and music
Love the passion in your eyes ;) Can you recomend what kind of mic should I use to create no talking bushcraft videos? It should record the sounds of nature and at the same time the sounds of putting tent, cooking food, etc
That means you should look into an omnidirectional microphone
@@FreeToUseSounds Thanks.
And do you think it's a good idea to use recorder like zoom h6 instead of mic and put it on my camera like an on-camera mic?
@@bear_on_a_bike You can do however you like. If you only have a Zoom H6 and you don't want to invest in different gear just try it out.
Just loving your channel, sound is such a brilliant world.❤
Thank you so much!!
Inspiring. Beats trying to load a house up with junk!
Yeah! Go for it :) No need to wait. The world of sounds begins in front of your eyes and ears. :)
