  • The Viking Berserkers were legendary warriors known for their drug-fueled frenzy and prowess in battle. Berserkers were elite Viking warriors believed to possess supernatural abilities, fueled by psychoactive substances. The raid on Lindisfarne in 793 marks the beginning of the Viking Age, with Vikings targeting vulnerable, wealthy targets like monasteries and villages. . Despite their fearsome reputation, Berserkers were eventually outlawed due to their extreme violence, reflecting changing societal attitudes towards such behavior.

    This whole idea that Amanita Muscaria was used to induce the "Berserker Rage" was based upon speculation by a scholar who actually knew absolutely nothing about the the effects of Fly Agaric. This bit of speculation has been repeated so much that some (even scholars at times) have taken the speculation as fact.
    The actual effects of Amanita Muscaria are quite the opposite of those one would expect to be used to induce a battle trance, being very sedate & introspective rather than agitated & animated.
    Please stop promoting this old, unproven piece of speculation as fact.

      How many of the sources describing the Berserkers or the rage that they went into have you studied?
      How would people know that they were experiencing an identical mindset to those of ecstatic warriors over 800 years ago? Do you know of some ancient firsthand account of someone who experienced the Berserker rage which the rest of us are unaware of?

      Amanita mascaria is lethal past a certain dose. In order to survive the experience you have to take a very spacific amount and its more or less a near death experiance. I could see other psychedelic mushrooms causing a sort of battle trance if taken at the right dose with a raiding party in conjunction from alchohol, but amanita mascaria is a poison mushroom.

    Berserker was an official position in which you were given a bear skin as a badge of office (Berserker = Bear Skin) and served as the kings personal champion and guard. You would fight duels for him or be sent as a "messenger" to any vassals that were misbehaving. It was a combination of actual warrior stuff and state craft. They were highly equipped and trained warriors that acted as the kings right hand, not naked drug fueled savages. Fantasy writing and tabletop games are where we got the brutal naked drug psycho picture of what a Berserker was.

    One of t things that made t vikings longships so fast was that clinker-built hulls have a unique characteristic of chanelling air underneath the hull. You can see this by looking astern of such hulls while underway, there is a wake of froth left behind. So they are effectively cruising on air as much as water. And that makes a planing hull fast, very fast.

You don't need drugs to "get into the zone" at all. You just work yourself into a rage until you're ready to "perform". The British had a discussion with one of their chiefs called Wampwan about possible independence for PNG. He said, How are you going to give me independence when I killed more people than you can fit into this(conference)room?
    On the other hand, the Zulus say that their troops were high(on potions made by their medicine men)when they annihilated Lord Chelmsford's army at Isandhlwana.

    As someone who has extensive experience with "magic mushrooms" these bad side effects were more than likely from mistaking poison mushrooms for the good ones. When harvesting one must be very careful not to harvest a "red devil". Psylisybin ( I may have spelled that wrong) mushrooms have a slight purple or violet color on the bottom. The poison ones or, red devils have a reddish bottom and look very similar. They can make you feel sooooo sick. I tend to think that this was what gave them the worst side effects.

Conversely they were the same ships that discovered North America..ie Newfound land....so it's a bit of a paradox really....They were amazingly versatile craft. Light enough to carry and run with but durable enough to navigate the high seas. The vikings were incredibly good navigators. For example they are known to have navigated by the sun in complete cloud cover in a storm by using the lodestone as a visual tool to find the position of the sun in every condition... you lack understanding. The whole point is when a person lives and identifies with their passions they are no different than animals, which do the same. What makes a human, human is the fact he is made in the image of the Logos, which is reason, which is Jesus Christ, manifested into human flesh. Thats why Christians saw pagans as savages, because they did not did not lead their own life, their passions did, they are driven by the lower passions.... so who is in control? you or your desires? 'Control your passions or your passion will control you' example is a alcoholic. he is under the pattern of desire and cannot function without it. he is 'possessed'
      i will add todays times is worse than before, majority people at least in the west live by their desires and not by the Logos.

    this is a fascinating tale. as i had pondered weather or not the vikings were actually true warriors or merely raider rabble. sense they always attacked EZ targets. anyone with drugs determination and murderous intent can slaughter helpless peasants. but the last stand on that bridge finaly proved that they were infact capable of tactical analysis and as much skilled as they were ferocious. choosing a choke point and out fighting 40+ trained soldiers is a remarkable feat. certainly more than simple criminals. and it begs a question. what might a modern day berzerker look like? what if they hadnt been banned? i picture a man buff as a body builder, in tactical gear, but with bear-skin adornments like a cape with a hood made of a bear. and weilding a belt fed MG with grenades and an axe as a back up weapon. taking clinically perfected drugs pre packaged with a precise dosage before engaging the enemy. a raging soldier who can only be stopped via a bullet to the brain as any other injury would go unnoticed untill the battle was over. and with that, Swedish marines just became terrifying

    • @jamesjohno1180
      @jamesjohno1180 2 місяці тому

      Yes the same Christian’s who went on a crusade to liberate the holy land from people who waged a war on innocent people… multiple times and those same people are trying to fight that war because it’s in their religion to do so
      Yes those same people who thought witches where real who didn’t know no better so they burnt them, look at other religions who killed people enslaved them up until recently😂
      Christians where the lesser evil in comparison and they’ve always helped to stop evil, that being said they had kings they had goals they used the religion to make the peaceful people do things not so peaceful or they would have been killed

      Amanita Muscaria is an awesome mushroom for both tripping and micro-dosing. But be very careful with higher doses. It's an extreme trip and you have to cook it right or else you end up on the toilet or the hospital.

    • @chonqmonk
      @chonqmonk 2 місяці тому

      @@aprioriaposteriori3676 Amanita muscaria contains no psilocybin and is not psychedelic. It will get you high but not in any way a psychedelic high, more like being drunk (so nobody that has ever tripped would call it tripping...); and it does nothing at all below the intoxicant level.
      Amanita Pantherina (the flatter yellow ones with white dots) contains the same chemical intoxicant as A. Muscaria, but is far more potent.

    It is deffinately possible. Maybe probable if the item were found on genuine archeological dig sights. but I am skeptical as I know some times items found places where they don't belong were simply obtained by somone from somewhere they weren't spose to take them from so they lie as to where they found said items. Really who knows I kinda bought into the bit that the Egyptians had trade with South America but also believe this may have occurred befor the land masses split apart as I think that happened well after humans were on earth

    One thing you don't mention is the strength difference. The Vikings were humans that fed mostly on fish and meat or a protein rich diet and were up against people that mostly fed on corn, grain and similar foods. The Viking diet is what body builders use today and Vikings were mostly people that did hard manual labor for most of their life as well.
