What Supplements I Take In Menopause and Why

  • What supplements I take, and why. Before I begin, I want to say that you should be getting the majority of your micronutrients through your DIET! If you don't know how to keep track of your macros and micronutrients, I recommend downloading the Cronometer app or using their web browser version. All of the supplements listed below are stated in this video and go more in-depth on why I love these supplements, so keep watching!
    ____________Galveston Diet Supplements_______________
    FIBER GDX
The main focus is to keep track of your daily fiber intake. A woman should be averaging 25 grams per day. If you notice that you don't reach this amount, I recommend taking a fiber supplement. I created my own called the Fiber GDX. If you want to try this, the link is in the description below.
    OMEGA-3 AND VITAMIN D
The next supplements I recommend are Omega-3 and Vitamin D. To sum this up, we as humans typically eat more foods that contain Omega-6, which can cause inflammation. The importance of taking an Omega-3 supplement is to balance out the ratio. Omega-3 is a great supplement to decrease heart disease, improve eye health, and more.
    TURMERIC
Next, let's talk about Turmeric. Turmeric is a supplement that increases mental function, acts as an anti-obesity prevention, decreases visceral fat deposition, decreases inflammation, lower hot flashes, prevents osteoarthritis, and increases gut health.
Check out one of our NEWEST blogs about Turmeric to learn more: galvestondiet....
    COLLAGEN
Collagen is a great supplement to take to reduce cellulite, decrease the appearance of wrinkles, and prevent osteoporosis.

Vitamin K2 is not Potassium (altho potassium is known as K on the periodic table, they are not the same!) and Vit K2 is VERY hard to get through diet alone. It's critical for this to be understood because D3 results in calcium being available, which critical to preventing osteoperosis. VITAMIN K2 as MK7 IS WHAT ENSURES CALCIUM GOES TO BONES. WITHOUT K2 THE CALCIUM STAYS IN THE VASCULAR SYSTEM AND CAUSES CALCIFICATION.
The reason I know this is because as a T1D I've taken D3 for decades. I was never told about K2. At age 63 I got a kidney transplant & in imaging before the transplant I was told I have a lot of calcification in my vascular structures, especially on the left where they typically put a transplant. As a result, the surgeon told me he wanted to put my kidney on the right, which would rule out the potential for a pancreas transplant.
So anyone taking D3, which most have insufficient vitamin D, K2 as MK7 should be taken along with it. It's essential to ensure the calcium goes to the bones rather than staying in the vascular system where it causes peripheral and arterial calcification.

Thank you so much for all you do for us women! I have seen a female gyno my entire life, but she never prepared me for perimenopause. I did not even know it was a thing! I was already in menopause before I found out about perimenopause and had suffered for years. I found your videos a few months ago and went on HRT because of them. In the US doctors do not give any support for HRT. So I have been suffering needlessly. I thank you for your videos because they are helping so much.

You are helping me save my life. I am grateful for your work and your dedication to helping women with their wellness. I have a favor to ask, although I know you are very busy. I would like to better understand a woman's options when she can afford the food but cannot afford the supplements.
I ask this because I work in economically depressed communities that struggle with weight due to nutritional choices that are cheap and quick to make or eat. I'm helping educate them on nutritional choices that fit their budget and help women avoid diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and many inflammatory issues. As I said, I greatly appreciate your work and would appreciate it if you ever decided to dedicate one show that covered, side-by-side the alternatives to the supplements in food form. Thanks again for your work.

Tanya, my HRT is fully covered by my insurances (both my hubby and I have different providers of insurance through work.) at first they refused my custom compounded bio identicals, but I had the doc write them a letter stating the strength of the compounds were not available commercially. they covered it then. a few years ago I switched to estrogel and prometrium, these are regular hormones, still bio-identical, and always covered by all insurances. go for it. you wont regret it I have been on it for 14 years and I fell great! my sister is also on it 10 years now. we both are avid cyclists and do weight training and still work full time and have younger husbands. we need hrt *wink wink. Also, your husband will have low hormones if he's over 50, if he is slim, hairy, and exercises hard, he may still have good amount of Testosterone, if not, and if he starts lying on the couch doing nothing, starts snoring, being crabby/grumpy, send him off to a hormone doc for testosterone therapy. Good luck!

And absolutely about the mom thing. I love my mom so much but when I spoke to her about hormones she said she didn't like them they made her feel weird so now after her being diabetic, arthritis and heart issues later I am like holy cow she was healthy mostly I mean not the best diet but she was healthy. My whole family has just thought I was nuts about how crazy I have been the last 4 years when I wasn't before menopause. Oh nothing is wrong with you, you're hair isn't thinning you're collagen is the same. I was like bullshit I know my body i have been in it for 48 years even doctors here have an antidepressants or several and go home. Finally I have been on low dose of hormones 2 mg estradiol orally per day but is that enough???? The doctors here don't know what they are doing I live is Small Town Pocatello Idaho

I love everything you say with the exception of the fiber thing. It's just such a debunked talking point. There is no deficiency state for fiber.
FAT, specifically animal fat, is the most important macro you should focus on as a woman in perimenopause.
I'm 51 with a perfect cycle still and fat pulled me out of a horrific set of symptoms that i began in my early 40's. I went from panic attacks and extreme brain fog, joint pain, frozen shoulder etc to ZERO SYMPTOMS with high animal fat & heavy weights. F cardio - i don't focus on it at all.
My poop is EXCELLENT since lowering my fiber. Beautiful poop, no problem.
I used to eat massive amounts of fiber and i had explosive diarrhea 😂
My fiber comes from very small amounts of fruit only IN SEASON.
Also pickled or fermented vegetables like carrots, onions, olives, pickles.
Rarely eat a non fermented or pickled veggie.
I would put my bio markers tests up against ANYONE ❤

    • @loneranger7573
      @loneranger7573 6 місяців тому +2

to me I agree that animal fat has cholesterol and that is what our bodies make hormones from. However, as you age and your periods stop, pls consider HRT. it has been a lifesaver for me. I am now 64. without it I am depressed, gained tons of weight, fatigue, diabetes. HRT reversed all that and more. I now do spin and work out and sleep solid 8 or 9 hours, have my lustrous hair back. I eat tons of butter and good meats, eggs, and dairy and , well, I am addicted to pickled anything, I even take a swig of pickle juice. you are on the right track. do have your full panel thyroid test though..
