Both prequels are useless, but Covenant is even worse than Prometheus, full of terrible inconsistencies, ideas that actively undermine the originals (even 4) and full of unforgivable, idiotic characters. It's not even interesting enough to hate-watch. Even Prometheus took a few goes before I couldn't stand it again, but I've seen Covenant once in the cinema, then once more streaming, just to be sure. Essentially every single (human) character behaves as though they are utterly lacking in basic functional intelligence. These people would get exterminated trying to ride a bicycle to the beach! Definitely AGREE. The only worthwhile selling point is the extreme level of violence. The rest is just predictable, fast-paced repetition from old scripts and theories. Covenant is a big budget B-Movie at best.

It turns out to be a queen,and a lot of the Weyland-Yutani humans are infected and then a war breaks out.All the humans on the planet are wiped out and only a few manage to escape in a spaceship.Then they nuke the planet from orbit. Then Weyland-Yutani regrets the decision and a hunt for the xenomorph begins.They get a tip that there's a crashed spaceship on lv426 and sends the robot Ash on the Nostromo spaceship.But they are informed that the mission has failed and that Nostromo has gone missing.Then Weyland-Yutani get's a tip about an xenomorph on Fiorina161 and sends a team of researchers there.They finds a surviving prisoner that is impreagnated and a queen is born. Weyland-Yutani then wants to use the xenomorphs on the planets where the engineers are located because they want the technology to seed planets with life. You don't introduce new design elements (lifted, obstensibly, or rather poorly plagiarized from some of the more obscure works of said original designer) while losing ALL semblance of the original visual style of such a revolutionary artistic film with NO CONTEXT reference or continuity- what was with the new Egyptian theme elements!?!? Why was there only few examples of it and where did it go!? What did it relate to!? What was up with the super fascinating botanical and biological experimentation illustrations that you only see in backgrounds ever. Why was that that not explored further referenced, or referred to in the story- or prefaced or explained?! When you have a succesful, iconic, revolutionary visual masterpiece with a definitive style thst informed generations of extraterrestrla design, and you make a sequel/prequel/offshoot, with better available graphics and tech, you find a design who can EVOLVE that shit, you don't destroy it!!! The original episodes were driven my mystery, mystique, ominousness, suspense, and dread, as well as action. There was a morbid fascination inspired by the bio organic, a sense of grotesque and beautiful macabre. the first thing you see of the creature in this movie is a full on (immediate- like in hours) graphic birth sequence. The real problem with Covenant is TMI, too much information, what makes Bigfoot, Werewolf and Vampires scary is all you know is that they kill. They take a great Syfy movie from the 70's and made it about finding our creators. After that did not work they made it about rogue robots. They through in some gays and a muslim and biracial couple to make it more PC, hell they even released it on mothers day in the UK. Sad really

I strongly disagree. I think youre short-changing Prometheus and Covenant based on expectations set forth by the previous Alien franchise. Its nowhere near as innovative or exciting as Alien or Aliens. Thats a lot to live up to. But both movies look beautiful af. Theyre fascinating af. Covenant is a great addition to the alien saga. Regarding the sex scene in the shower. It has been said from the original alien and also the comics (expanded universe) that certain people from the crew would engage in sex as a way of pain or stress reliever. I"m a big alien fan myself but I'm surprise you fail to mention that!
I will never accpet alien covenant as canon. As in my opinion it ruins Aliens lore and is a major recon for the engineers and predators. So i will only ever see it as a Bad spin off.

lol oh man I would. I didn't like Alien 4 when it came out, but after how bad these assholes in Hollywood have fucked up my favorite franchise, Alien 4 feels like the red-headed step child I've grown to love. :P
That really is reaching, the Xenomorphs look awful in that film. Not to mention the horrible characters, Ripley included. It was like watching a completely different main character in the story.
The characters & acting are quite a bit better than anything in the franchise since, imo. And yeah, I know it wasn't good - that's my point! I did think the Neomorph in Covenant was cool. But like everything else in the movie they royally fucked that up.
How so? I thought it was greatly portrayed, the only scene I reasonably had quarrels with was David being an Alien whisperer. It made the Alien much less intimidating for me knowing it could be tamed like a Wolf. But it's Design, Anatomy, and Nature is spot on, It leaves a hole in my heart knowing that we may not see it in the franchise again. The acting in Covenant is very well done, but the most of the characters have very little to offer as they had no time to develop. It was action at every corner, and only a select few of the characters had any real screen time to themselves (Daniels, Oram, David, Walter.) They simply fit too much into the film.
First off, your idea David had no tech to begin creation is wildly speculative. You had no idea what tech he had access to on either the ship or ground city. No one cares that we didn't require an origin of the species. Ridley wanted it as an unexpected revelation, and it was a good one at that. It makes perfect sense that David wanted to create something that did not have the flaws of his own creators, because he felt he would be successful in doing so, given time, unhindered by hypocrisy or the ego that humans suffered ("We made you because we COULD.") His creation would have no ego and thus act of (as Ash said) purity. This film was more about the dangers of A.I. besting man, how our actions twisted a free-thinking robot, than what happened to Shaw...a fact I love, finding out "hey, no happy ending for her...", a far more believable result that her talking to a bunch of dudes who hate humans, who would've killed her anyway. David was far along the path to making perfection than as you speculate after he nuked the engineers (if that's really who they were, looking nothing like the Prometheus Engs Also, throwing your liberal slap about Trump society and then thinking SAW series was good when it was the same movie six times casts serious doubt on your logic with this series.

Didnt Ridley lose his brother recently ? He's grieving. Causes all kinds of desires to DISCONNECT from "reality" as we commonly conceive it, and kind of retreat within himself. The pain is like an ocean, huge, unfathomable, but invisible to others. Only time will heal it. During that time, his life will slowly unravel and he will sink to a lower level, or standard. But in 10 or 20 years he'll come out much wiser, stronger and smarter.
The whole "android created the xenomorph" twist was pure garbage. The newborn is something I'd rather accept as canon than that. Scott took the potential concept of graduating from biological horror to "existential horror" in perhaps realizing that the engineers created human beings on a whim and decided in their ennui of being all-powerful beings that had mastered the creation of life itself that something diametrically opposing their own existence was preferable, hence the xenomorph. Scott definitely indicated that direction given the content of the mural in Prometheus. Instead they opted for one of the most disgustingly pretentious, dunning-kruger appealing plot twists and just made the evil android "out-create" the engineers. It also leads absolutely nowhere, as opposed to perhaps presaging a conflict between humans and engineers or a few films of various bands of humans trying to stop the dissemination of the xenomorph by the engineers themselves. Instead they have done a potentially permanent injury to the exposition of the first film and will have to somehow shoehorn a fantastically lame explanation as to why many egg pods found their way into the engineer's ship. I'm sure David just put them there because he thought it would improve the feng shui of the ship...
Alien covenant is a great addition to the alien saga and Yes, way better than Resurrection. it is also in a different level than alien 1, 2 and 3 and It can not be compared to them
Mixed reviews and crying about Prometheus and many upset they didn't show any Alien. Ridley said that was reasons for bringing big guy back. But now more crying and butt hurt, can't make fan boys happy. Same crying about Star Wars prequels and even The Force Awakens. I enjoyed it , thought it was excellent. I went into move just happy to be seeing Alien film in theaters again , instead of beating off to nostalgia. Smh

this was one of my favorite in the alien franchise.. even if there was no suspense everyone has already seen it so in my opinion making everything on the nose is excusable and logical because we all know what will happen regardless it was more about symbology... this is going to be a slow digest.. this film was wrought with symbolism from start to finish. I just ….why god why …rewatched the movie (a bit of ..ahem …fast forwarding ) ….I will not go over the hundreds of incongruous inept nonsensical actions senseless dialogues ridiculous plot points that simply dominate the entire movie…not picking on the actors many of them did the best they could with what they were given… in fact there were …my opinion…some very good performances…the …helix inspired death drop of the black goo ….well if the rest of the movie had been good …that scene would have ruined it for me….sadly I understand the point ….that scene simply doesn’t make the the high minded point that was implied…the movie as a whole …well quite frankly that was the problem …it wasn’t a whole movie ….it never started what it never finished

Covenant is a great addition to the alien saga. Regarding the sex scene in the shower. It has been said from the original alien and also the comics (expanded universe) that certain people from the crew would engage in sex as a way of pain or stress reliever. I"m a big alien fan myself but I'm surprise you fail to mention that!

I will never accpet alien covenant as canon. As in my opinion it ruins Aliens lore and is a major recon for the engineers and predators. So i will only ever see it as a Bad spin off.

lol oh man I would. I didn't like Alien 4 when it came out, but after how bad these assholes in Hollywood have fucked up my favorite franchise, Alien 4 feels like the red-headed step child I've grown to love. :P
That really is reaching, the Xenomorphs look awful in that film. Not to mention the horrible characters, Ripley included. It was like watching a completely different main character in the story.
The characters & acting are quite a bit better than anything in the franchise since, imo. And yeah, I know it wasn't good - that's my point!
I did think the Neomorph in Covenant was cool. But like everything else in the movie they royally fucked that up.
How so? I thought it was greatly portrayed, the only scene I reasonably had quarrels with was David being an Alien whisperer. It made the Alien much less intimidating for me knowing it could be tamed like a Wolf. But it's Design, Anatomy, and Nature is spot on, It leaves a hole in my heart knowing that we may not see it in the franchise again.
The acting in Covenant is very well done, but the most of the characters have very little to offer as they had no time to develop. It was action at every corner, and only a select few of the characters had any real screen time to themselves (Daniels, Oram, David, Walter.) They simply fit too much into the film.

First off, your idea David had no tech to begin creation is wildly speculative. You had no idea what tech he had access to on either the ship or ground city. No one cares that we didn't require an origin of the species. Ridley wanted it as an unexpected revelation, and it was a good one at that. It makes perfect sense that David wanted to create something that did not have the flaws of his own creators, because he felt he would be successful in doing so, given time, unhindered by hypocrisy or the ego that humans suffered ("We made you because we COULD.") His creation would have no ego and thus act of (as Ash said) purity. This film was more about the dangers of A.I. besting man, how our actions twisted a free-thinking robot, than what happened to Shaw...a fact I love, finding out "hey, no happy ending for her...", a far more believable result that her talking to a bunch of dudes who hate humans, who would've killed her anyway. David was far along the path to making perfection than as you speculate after he nuked the engineers (if that's really who they were, looking nothing like the Prometheus Engs Also, throwing your liberal slap about Trump society and then thinking SAW series was good when it was the same movie six times casts serious doubt on your logic with this series.

Didnt Ridley lose his brother recently ? He's grieving. Causes all kinds of desires to DISCONNECT from "reality" as we commonly conceive it, and kind of retreat within himself. The pain is like an ocean, huge, unfathomable, but invisible to others.
Only time will heal it. During that time, his life will slowly unravel and he will sink to a lower level, or standard. But in 10 or 20 years he'll come out much wiser, stronger and smarter.

The whole "android created the xenomorph" twist was pure garbage.
The newborn is something I'd rather accept as canon than that.
Scott took the potential concept of graduating from biological horror to "existential horror" in perhaps realizing that the engineers created human beings on a whim and decided in their ennui of being all-powerful beings that had mastered the creation of life itself that something diametrically opposing their own existence was preferable, hence the xenomorph. Scott definitely indicated that direction given the content of the mural in Prometheus.
Instead they opted for one of the most disgustingly pretentious, dunning-kruger appealing plot twists and just made the evil android "out-create" the engineers.
It also leads absolutely nowhere, as opposed to perhaps presaging a conflict between humans and engineers or a few films of various bands of humans trying to stop the dissemination of the xenomorph by the engineers themselves.
Instead they have done a potentially permanent injury to the exposition of the first film and will have to somehow shoehorn a fantastically lame explanation as to why many egg pods found their way into the engineer's ship.
I'm sure David just put them there because he thought it would improve the feng shui of the ship...

If by a different level you mean the basement, then yes, Covenant is certainly on a different level from Alien 1-3 and Prometheus.

Mixed reviews and crying about Prometheus and many upset they didn't show any Alien. Ridley said that was reasons for bringing big guy back. But now more crying and butt hurt, can't make fan boys happy. Same crying about Star Wars prequels and even The Force Awakens. I enjoyed it , thought it was excellent. I went into move just happy to be seeing Alien film in theaters again , instead of beating off to nostalgia. Smh

I actually thought this movie was okay, and I feel like when the sequel comes out people will judge it less harshly. It seemed more like a set up for a new movie then its own full movie, which I know isn't good. Regardless I enjoyed the movie.
this was one of my favorite in the alien franchise.. even if there was no suspense everyone has already seen it so in my opinion making everything on the nose is excusable and logical because we all know what will happen regardless it was more about symbology... this is going to be a slow digest.. this film was wrought with symbolism from start to finish. A friend of mine was angry when I told him this and said you shouldn't need a philosophy degree to understand a movie... I think it's nice and very great...
