I have a penn battle 2 (2000) that I use for smallmouth and honestly it’s one of the best reels I’ve ever encountered for it price range
after watching your video on the shimano fl stradic. i went a pulled apart my fl stradic. one of the springs out of the anti reverse clutch fell onto the kitchen floor as you said it would lol. Two hours or more later and i got the clutch working and another hour to finish the reel. I am very good at wasting my time on your videos. lol

I was given a battle II a year ago. Used the heck out of it in the Gulf and no pinion gear BB noise at all. In less time than that both the BG and the spinfisher developed that familiar whir in the same bearing.
And it wasn't in the line roller correct? (not doubting as I've had trouble there on a few... But line roller is a common source)
@@TackleAdvisors I expect the line roller BB to get noisy real quick. That is a given. Don't even bother changing them out.

I just saw that they have a Battle iii dx. Or something like that. All sizes have a brass main and pinion. Just a few dollars more than the the regular battle iii

@@romp23 in the smaller reels, the DX is a better reel, in the larger ones size 6000 and up the only difference is the color scheme.

You should do a review of the Lew’s Pro Ti! As a Lew’s guy I’m curious to hear your thoughts on their flagship model reel.
That's a tough one especially after using that black and orange thing... It's hard to want to invest time on the water and more time on the bench for an Oem sourced product.. Which is why I don't often do abu lews etc and focus on the big 2. Even though there are some gems
I wish there were handle options especially for the smaller sizes. I'm just not a fan of finesse fishing with those big handle knobs.
Hey love the videos!! I have been looking to buy a surf reel I can’t decide between the battle 3, spin fisher, and the shamino Saragossa... which one is the best bang for the buck?? Or is there another reel you recommend... mean if all of the reels aren’t fully sealed and I don’t want to be spending a crazy amount which would you recommend?? I do not plan on swimming with them but if it falls in or gets splashed I will just spray with the hose when I get home.. thanks so much

I Love Penn Product. Easy For Maintenance and Strong
As someone who has no choice but to fix all his own gear thanks to where I live, I really appreciate ease of maintenance and cheap, available parts no matter if the reel has been discontinued. Penn are not really the best reels but they are the best for me. Looks like the Battle 3 is a winner for me. Cheers for the quick vid.
Btw with Penn and Daiwa lending you samples does this mean Shimano will let you give the Saragosa SWA "the treatment" before it's released?? Asking for a friend 😅
Penn is the best without a doubt for after sales support... Parts are readily available for a loooong time... This reel was from Josh at jandh... The Daiwas....well that's a story in and of itself... Spoke to some people today who feared that video cost them their jobs.... The vp of Daiwa was not pleased... At all... Lots of phones were ringing... And my ears were ringing from so many talking about me today.....
Shimano does not like me... They think I leaked confidential information.. That gosa vid I put out with the leaked photo was their vp with the reel on a charter... The shimano rep was pissed when I bumped into him when I volunteered at a shops grand opening last spring. Lol
Yikes, well Daiwa has no one to blame but themselves for flunking it with the BG MQ but you must have helped them sell a lot if BGs, Ballistics, Saltist Back Bay etc in the past. Same for the Shimano reels you gave the thumbs up to. But they all better get used to having their stuff critiqued in this decade.... keep rattling their cages when they screw up - there's a whole legion of fishermen out there who thank you 👍🤙
Before you buy be sure to check out the Battle iii DX. It's an improved version of the regular battle iii and it's only a few dollars more
Best reel for your boy or casual friends you are taking out. Me and my mates call the battle a millstone. Too tough to call it an egg beater.

Hey, what are your thoughts on the battle 3? I mean... That looks much better than the old one. The only problems with the battle before was the gears but they fixed that so it should be a pretty sick reel now.
Gearing has been much improved... How they improved line lay is what needs to be seen.. I'll know soon

When you placed the body of the reel on the table, it sounded like it was made of plastic. I thought the penn battle 3 had an all metal body?

Great Video!! I just got this reel but in the 4000 High Speed gear. Is it worth upgrading the bearings on this reel and if so would what size bearings are in this reel?
I'd leave them as is.. Penn uses pretty good quality bearings and all are rubber sealed vs shielded.. So they will hold up longer in harsh environments

The ease of disassembly? Not at all... The slammer and Spinfisher come apart just as easily... But they have rubber seals to prevent debris and to some extent water from entering... Sand and salt don't generally get in through where the side plates mate together especially if heavily greased... Good question
Battle 2, Battle 3, what the difference?
The only thing that made me choose the BG over the Battle was the casting distance. The Battle has absolute TRASH casting if you need distance. Id love to get the new battle but they didn't do anything regarding casting.
I never really had an issue with casting performance of the spinfisher.. I assume it's line lay is the same... The issue with the battle 2 was you couldn't spool tight to the lip.. Where as with Daiwa and shimano you can... That right there gives the biggest impact... Over angle of line lay and amount of wraps on the spool... If I can spool and fish this reel like a spinfisher I'd say it's on par with Daiwa and pretty close to the stradic....

Another new reel from Penn nice But with no quick release spool we are still living in the dark ages without this on our so called new reels when will the manufactures get it right with something that will make there new products worth buying
u cant have a quickrelease spool on a spinning reel mate.. its about the design.. u also cant have the drag on the backside cause its way heavier.. also how many times do u switch spools (me never personally).
I'd be all for a memory spool that comes off without backing off the drag... But quick release spools are sorta thing of the past

Penn has the smallest gears, which cause all the hard cranking when fighting fish ( require more torque on from your hand ) which also easily damage the gears, they are junks until they can change their gear size to be same size as shimano or daiwa.
Keep in mind though.... The new machined gears have proven very durable and power transmission excellent regardless of size... I'd rather a physical size increase.. But you can't argue with the results...

I’ve been using it in the surf for a few years and it surprisingly is still holding up. If I could go back I would have went for the saragosa or another slammer. Maybe now the battle 3. 😂

There is another newer Battle iii called the dx model. All sizes have a brass main and pinion. I have 3 BGs . 4000, 4500, and 5000. I definitely love them but I want to try that battle

It's gonna be a close one...the new battle is pretty damn nice...I think you'll get better cranking efficiency in the daiwa..but that if you're a fan of penn this'll make ya happy.
@@TackleAdvisors the aluminioom rotor on the penn is nice, I assume the main gear is made of better material than the BG? I played with a bsttle 3 at bass pro, it's just as smooth as the BG I have but it takes a little more force to overcome the inertia of the heavier rotor and smaller main gear. But man it looks like a sweet reel that may be better suited for inshore casting than the BG

I bought a ballistic and it froze after 5 or so uses. I'm thinking to just get battle 3 because by the time I send it in a pay for parts it would be the same cost. Then I could sell it as is as a piece of shit over priced over glorified reel.
