Great video to watch (several times already) but I'd like your feedback on something you did not cover. So, I just purchased the Fierce III 4000-size reel after buying the same size Fierce II reel two years ago. Yesterday while installing a set of Smoooth Drag carbon fiber replacement washers into the Fierce II (plus my Shimano Saros and Sedona reels) I noticed it used THREE drag washers (oiled felt) whereas Penn now uses only TWO of their HT-100 washers in the current Fierce III. So I'm wondering, should my Carbontex upgrade end up making the Fierce II drag effectively smoother than its successor? Higher maximum drag perhaps?

not really. I've fished Mitchell-Garcia 300,302,308's on the rocks and surf for not years but decades. The same reels no replacement or major repairs. I am sensing modern reels have become very 'high strung' and therefore fragile. That's modern marketing in planned obsolescence and propaganda that you need a special reel for every darn type of fishing and species. Even in modern reels if bought judiciously, can be used for whatever fishing is at hand. People just need to learn how to maintain them as well as the idea a Fierce III is not the best marlin or bluefin tuna reel.
I know the battle 2 spools won’t work with the other reels because of the bearing under the spool got a bunch of pursuit 3 spools and put them on my fierce 2 ll reels for dirt cheap cheaper then I get get the ht washers for all the handles and drag knobs are the same as well just wanted to know about the fierce 3 spool is the clicker the same and does it fit on the pursuit 3 and 2 and fierce 2 I think for the money the pursuit 3 is the best reel for the money I think I got 2 4000 for 50 bucks last year on amazon during Christmas
jimcat X the fierce 3 spool uses the same keyed (have 4 ears) drag washers as the battle 2. the fierce 2 drag washers are just round, so there should be a slight increase in the drag numbers for the fierce 3= same as the battle 2 for the same size reel. that said, i have several fierce 2 reels and they meet my needs. like the video says the gears and inside parts are (mostly) the same for all 3 reels, the bearings are the other difference
Here in Europe the Spinfisher VI is 25 euro's more expensive than this reel. For that money you are getting CNC aluminum gears and sealing. A bit of a no brainer I guess.
Either way, it’d still be good to have a comparison. These reels still have a high used value, so it’d be good to know if one was better than the other in the larger sizes especially if you’re buying a used saltiga/stella. Theres not many other options for high end spinning reels [so NOT van staal/zeebass/torque as they’re a different class - ie waterproof - however comparing these 3 in a separate video would be good too!!]
Tackle Advisors I go catfishing a lot but I am going to start going surf fishing as well and I want a reel that can handle a rang of size fish and probably 60 or 65 lb braid
great video! the only thing i would add is to open up the drags in the spools. you'll find the drag washers are the same in the battle 2 and fierce 3, which are eared and HT-100, but round felt washers in the fierce 2. the eared should give a slightly higher drag number, since the washers won't spin and the drag is pulled, unlike the fierce 2 round washers. (presume). that said, i upgraded a couple of fierce 2 reels with the equivalent ht-100 drag washers. might be smoother, but no real increase in drag friction.. what i fish for hasn't 'burnt up" my drags yet anyways...
I just updated my Penn 750SS, purchased in the late 70's, to HT100 washer system. The difference is the initial tug. The originals, probably 1000 Blue fish old, needed a bit of a jerk to get the drag moving. The new washers respond to a smooth pull way more readilly.
I get that...and parts sharing is fine look at daiwa....tatula, procyon, ballistic.....and the legalis, fuego, exceler.....so i get it....but it's strange to comeout with replacement.....which is the same....just a sealed bearing, drag washer and cosmetic change...nothin else.....
It's the same reel with the addition of the ht100 drag and a sealed bearing on top of the pinion.....everything else is the same.......Was surprised to see move up in generation to remain the same platform.

so which one better battle 2 or fierce 3 ?? which one you choose to buy ? thx
Scoob, battle 2 easily the bargain here. Awesome kayak reel. Been using them for a while.
Rockin out with your reel out man awesome content...straight to the point
Cool video. Thanks for the info. Merry Christmas
Welp no 35-45 minute video this time maybe next year
What would you suggest between the battle 2 and the fierce 2
You lost me with the Bloomberg add
!@#$ that asshat.............TRUMP 2020
Lol yea, downfall of UA-cam ads, not being able to pick and choose.
What is the material of the rotor penn fierce iii?
What about main gear? Is it the same? What material?
Soooo... I got two fierce 2 reels for 10$ each
I absolutely enjoy you content. Would you recommend the Experior over the Fierce?
I have the Fierce 2 and the Battle in 3000 and love both of em
For me first model penn battle is the best..
Saltwater most definitely needs a reel with seals..freshwater you can use anything with a decent drag to be honest🤷🏾♂️
Will a Battle 3 size 6000 handle work on a Fierce 3 size 6000? I like the round power handles of the Battle 3
It should
I know the battle 2 spools won’t work with the other reels because of the bearing under the spool
got a bunch of pursuit 3 spools and put them on my fierce 2 ll reels for dirt cheap cheaper then I get get the ht washers for all the handles and drag knobs are the same as well
just wanted to know about the fierce 3 spool is the clicker the same and does it fit on the pursuit 3 and 2 and fierce 2 I think for the money the pursuit 3 is the best reel for the money I think I got 2 4000 for 50 bucks last year on amazon during Christmas
jimcat X the fierce 3 spool uses the same keyed (have 4 ears) drag washers as the battle 2. the fierce 2 drag washers are just round, so there should be a slight increase in the drag numbers for the fierce 3= same as the battle 2 for the same size reel. that said, i have several fierce 2 reels and they meet my needs. like the video says the gears and inside parts are (mostly) the same for all 3 reels, the bearings are the other difference
Should a bail open from any position on a reel? I have one, a new Okuma Epixor XT, that won't open in a very small radius of the reel.
That is normal that is the bail trip ramp it's hitting
I gave up on my Fierce 2, 3000, & 4000, many moons ago, will you be reviewing the Salt X 4000 in the near future ? Great work by the way !
I foresee that reel hitting the bench soon
popped 3 or 4 luckycrafts 110s 15 lb braid with the penn battle never again penn reels
Hi. Can you explain what you mean by "popped?" TIA!
can i put fierce 3 drag in my old fierce 2's,i keep them clean, they are as good as when i bought them
I know guys that put the HT-100 in the fierce 2 so yep ya sure can
The battle 2 are a great value today
anyone e notice the green screen
Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
Obtain the bag chief 😢
Happy Holidays and thanks for the review on the Penn Reels.🎄🎄🎄🎄
Hey Benjamin! Thanks man! Same to you and yours!!!!!
hi sir lookinh somerell
Great review !!!
Sir is it fierce 3 sealed? Splash seawater is it can endure it?
no it is not.
Mantab sir,
Here in Europe the Spinfisher VI is 25 euro's more expensive than this reel. For that money you are getting CNC aluminum gears and sealing. A bit of a no brainer I guess.
That's a no brainer. SVI is one of the best reels on the market in it's price range
@@TackleAdvisors Btw you mentioned the Spheros SW 2019 and BG in this video again, what is your pick of the two for inshore fishing?
Please please please can we have a saltiga 8k vs Stella 20k breakdown, comparison and recommendation video? Please please please!
New saltiga is coming....Not sure how the 2019 stella isn't a downgrade from the prior gen.
What reel for around 110 to 130 do you think is the most bang for the buck and that will cast the Farthest
Size and target species? .. Lb test of what kind of line?
Thought I did
Tackle Advisors you did hit on them being carbon, felt, and carbon. i totally missed that part... thanks for a great vid! 👍🏽
I just updated my Penn 750SS, purchased in the late 70's, to HT100 washer system. The difference is the initial tug. The originals, probably 1000 Blue fish old, needed a bit of a jerk to get the drag moving. The new washers respond to a smooth pull way more readilly.
Penn is pretty much generic across the lower tier reels. All parts are interchangeable.
Tackle Advisors and a price increase 😂
Has it been "fiercely" improved?
It's the same reel with the addition of the ht100 drag and a sealed bearing on top of the pinion.....everything else is the same.......Was surprised to see move up in generation to remain the same platform.
Reels size?
4000 in this vid
Meh!
No argument from me there lol
@@TackleAdvisors :D
Lol im tired of Shimanos Service I only ordered 3 things line roller bail spring and a drag clicker then he sent me a bill and changed everything in my sustain 2500fj for $90 when I was only getting about a $20 fix said it was going to be a brand new reel when i got it (cough cough) not at all bail spring broke line roller doesnt work no drag clicker handle broke in half and its corroded inside and this was after a month of use might still buy only shimanos cause i kinda want the Stradic FL but i do like my BG and i like the saltist but I don't like penn at all i personally think their reels are junk
3 stellar channels! Thank you for your content 🎣🤙🏼
But wait.... There's more..... TBD got some freshwater guys too...
Same mass produced crap, with low qualtity die cast low grade metal gearing. Pure crap. And this piece china low qualtity reels, sells for about 120 dollars US in Sweden. And its just crap. Its an insult to us sweds whom grown up with bronze geard ABU cardinal. Fakk US capital and that whole industri and marketing.
I have a Shimano Stradic Ci4+ FB 2500 reel. What does the FB stand for?
Martin Vegh for bitches
My Penn Fierce 3 was just delivered and left on a cold porch. After tearing it open like a Christmas package I was a little underwhelmed at its feel. I dont always open a reel before fishing it as new but the stiction is crazy in this one - it feels like a pound of lube is in there. It's good enough otherwise for bobber float n fly but my first impression didnt improve after it got up to room temperature either. Line lay was good with 8# J-braid spooled at above average tension.
Possibly heavy handed on the bearing grease... Greased bearings make for sluggish reels. Or to much grease on the shaft or under oscillation gear
Dude please review the sharky iii I really wanna know if it's actually crap lol
Soap it’s a pretty bad reel. The frame is made out of a really bad materials and multiple Sharky IIIs have broken frames after a year. Stay away from that reel, go for okuma at that price point instead!
@@Benjamin-S I got it on sale for 40$ so I'm not actually expecting it to be good lol. Maybe for a few months or a year at most. I recently sold all my gear and I'm upgrading I just need to upgrade the reel from the sharky iii. For now it's just a place holder. I'll get a BG once I have enough money tbh
Soap good plan! The BG is a beast!
@@Benjamin-S thanks buddy! Tight lines from the mediterranean :)
Soap tight lines from Sweden and the Baltic Sea!
I own a battle 2 and I like it. I wanted to buy my sister a “budget” reel an noticed the fierce 2 was at a lower price point because it’s being replaced. Should I get her the fierce 2 or spend the extra money and get the 3?
For smaller sizes or freshwater you'll likely not notice a difference. In the salt... The bonuses of the 3 are nice
I just made a post, you can kinda watch for the Passion combos and find them cheap too.
