    Great video. My first (and only) salt water reel for the longest was a Penn 4500 SS. Still have it plus one other cheaper brand 4000. Looking to get a little more serious and this review really helped.

    Good review brother! I'm using a Battle 3 6000 high speed on a 10ft Okuma Longitude, a Spinfisher 4500 on a 9ft Okuma, and just got a regular 6000 combo at half hitch with 9 ft medium heavy mod fast. Loving them all! I hadn't used the Battle 2, but heard the rods were blah. So far the 9 ft combo rod is feeling great and it was an impulse buy for the price. The round knob feels SO much better than the T, but personal preference I guess.

      Thanks bro! I wish the 4000 would’ve had the knob. The DX version should be out soon which I believe all have the knob, so I may get one of those. I ordered a knob off amazon to replace in a different reel, and it’s actually a pain to replace those

    Hi
    This 4000 size is bigger than other 4000 size in other brands? Its like the Daiwa 4000 or small as fierce 4000. I'm planning to buy this same size for rods from 8' , 9' & may be light surf 10'. By the way I use 20 lb braid and cast from ½ up to 1.5 oz max.
    Thanks

  • @aaronhiggs

    The Battle 3 is actually built on the same frame as the spinfisher and the slammer 3 I've read. Its a great reel for the price. Cant wait for the DC models to get in. For 20 bucks more you get all brass internals.

    Great review. I'm looking to get this reel and was looking at the 4000 or 5000. There is a combo though with a 6000 and a 9' rod. I'm pretty new to surf fishing--is there a big difference between the 5000 and 6000 reel? If not, I'd prefer to get the 6000 and 9' rod combo to save some money. I'm looking to surf fish for flounder, striped bass, and bluefish. Appreciate any help. Will be subscribing.

    • @BeardedBrad92
      @BeardedBrad92  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for subscribing! Only real difference is line capacity. You’re going to be able to hold more on the 6000. You have 25lbs of drag on both reels. The 6000 is a little heavier, but to be able to get the 9’ rod for the combo, I’d say go ahead and get the 6000

    • @BeardedBrad92
      @BeardedBrad92  3 роки тому

      I use 20lb on all my reels. You could get away with a little less though. I like to go bigger for more abrasion resistance, and in case I hook something bigger.

    I like how penns are easy to service yourself and parts are cheap. But non of these penns, even the slammer holds up to my fishing which is standing in the water or fishing from a paddleboard. The Spinfisher and slammer is not fully sealed for getting dunked a lot. They fail me so I invested last year on truly sealed Van Staal. Not the VR which is not the same as the 800 dollar VS or VSB. I absolutely love it. I've fished with it while fully dunked and gets constantly splashed. It has not failed me at all and has not needed a service yet. And the internal parts are not cheap plastic like the plastic caged clutch bearings in 250 own slammer. If you spend 700 or 800 on penn torque or Van Staal vS or vsb, you will not have to replace or rebuild reels like I did all the time.

    • @BeardedBrad92
      @BeardedBrad92  3 роки тому

      You can, and I ordered one on amazon but then found out it’s a pain in the ass to swap out. You have to drill out the original screw, so I haven’t fooled with it yet. Maybe a job for the winter
