"People always ask me why your always getting firewood" BUCKIN If I had a dollar for every time I heard that id be a rich man... I heat with wood, fellow tree man, run a tree service, and STILL always looking for firewood! The joy of firewood warms the soul and the people you meet on this journey are the nicest people. I can say firewood helped me in my life not only just heat a home but warm the soul.

this boy is great! oh dirt, I have other problems now - frost!)) the damp wood is frozen and all the moisture in it has become ice, and the bark is like an iceberg))) to save the chain I make holes with an ax for cutting and clean the icy bark, otherwise the chain sparks and smokes . winter is very romantic with axes in a snowy forest!x))))

O heck yeah, Billy, on dirty logs. I cut a bunch of firewood in state lands that they deck by the landings. It's mostly junk but of course there's a lot of good wood in there. But it is dirty dirty dirty.
You need a $20 permit to cut , and it's broken up into areas. I like to get some easy stuff then wait for a windstorm (we have them often at the coast), then you can cut any downed wood in the cut area. SO much better than the dirty gravel wood. I bring two saws and a top handle, and a chain or two extra for each.

Billy Ray, at 3 weeks shy of 60, I know that I am a few years your senior. BUT, if not for my low back pains, I would be so full of vim and vigor like you are. Much of my "ahhhhh" type peace has been replaced by an altered lifestyle of looking after the health and well being of my mom who passed away Oct 2022, and my dad who is living out the remainder of his life needing the care of family, friends and professional facilities. Learning from you, has given me some measure of the " AHHHHHHH of peace" at knowing that tree work, wrenching on trucks, saws, tractors can all return to me the rewards of simple active mind and body. Thank you, Brother.

You are scaring me to death with that one hand holding of the chainsaw when there is a log on the other side. Anyway, definitely agree: dirt is the enemy of saws. I am trying to get into milling so I don't have to deal anymore with bucking a 100 foot log 100 times for firewood. Considering the cost for lumber, you can just mill the wood and buy the firewood.

"....bring two of everything.." Amen to that. Boy did I feel that when you "ripped" your shoulder. I haven't owned a lot of chainsaws (landowner not logger), but I have learned every 'saw has it's own sweet spot when it comes to starting and pull chords. I dunno how many times I've nobbled an elbow or shoulder firing up machines. I always imagined that left me in the Beginner league, so while I am sorry for your shoulder, I am heartened to know such a simple thing as just starting the thing on a hostile day is a mercy for stars and wannabe's alike!

      Bring two of everything ✅
Used to roadie for bands, played in bands and worked on giant rock concerts and there's always something breaking or failing at the last minute.
People would ask why they're so many trucks with so much equipment... well gotta have at least 2 of everything.
Greg Allman would have a complete extra Hammond B3 organ and Leslie speaker system ready at all times.
And that stuff is not small or light weight.♻️🪵🪓🪘

There's more than one reason fire wood guys run short bars and some run semi chisel chain, it's quick to sharpen and will still cut after you hit a rock, you get more done this way.
We also skid our wood in the winter when the ground is froze and snowy, you get way less dirt stuck in the bark this way. January to March are our fire wood season, we get the winters wood out of the woods in those months so the wood isnt muddy. We may buck it up in the summer but we're not going to the woods to get it in the summer or fall.
I hate to say it, it's your channel but you are the odd man out when out comes to getting firewood, not many people collect firewood like you do.

Firewood is a lotta work , as you gain experience and acquire some tools and saws it becomes easier - eventually u work up to a kinetic splitter and ported / built saws and then ya can make a decent buck , heat home and get your exercise ! Remember : burnt gunpowder is the smell of freedom - so is the smell of a 2-stroke rippa saw 😂
