They were one of the biggest of the Nu metal era and get lumped in with the genre a lot. They really transcend most of what nu metal is. They are pretty much alternative metal I guess? It’s hard to put them in a box. They really do kind of have their own genre lol

SOAD have their own genre. People say they are alternative metal, nu-metal, hard rock etc. IMO the ending part genre is heavy metal.
Other SOAD you should check out: BOOM!, Innervision. A.D.D. (American Dream Denial) . I-E-A-I-A-I-O. Highway Song. Ego Brain. Thetawaves. All from the same album, all so fucking good. They've only made 5 albums before they broke up.
They never broke up, in 2006-2010 they have a hiatus and 2010-now they stop from hiatus and start doing live show

What you're talking about multiple songs in one, and crazy time signatures and tempo changes, COULD be classified as Progressive, also known simply as Prog. There's genres like prog metal and prog rock, but honestly, to me, Progressive fundamentally means anything that pushes the boundaries of the commercially produced music. Experimenting with time signatures outside of 4/4 and breaking out of the 4-chord loop that is most pop music.
For a great example of a progressive song that experiments around but does it so well that you don't even notice, check out The Spirit of Radio, by a group called Rush. They are truly legends now and revered by musicians and artists from all genres and walks of life, but they did not start off so popular. That song is so good that you just cant help but nod your head, the rhythm just sweeps you away.
I don't know what SOAD is officially classified as, maybe some fusion of nu-metal and progressive metal.... idk. Fuck labels, honestly. Good music is good music

SOAD is one of the most political bands ever, man! Plenty of social and political commentary. And such a unique blend of genres. One of the super rare bands who have a sound all their own (just like TOOL).They are all of armenian descent so they incorporate stuff like polka in their songs, and it’s beyond awesome. There really is no genre to this band they have multiples of different rock added in one song that has pieces of sounds from other bands.You can count Primus Tool Korn Ministry KMFDM along with some Armenian twist as well.
