Well, that was as minimal of a barrier hit as possible, so really lucky and far from being a crash.
Spun and hit the barrier, that's a crash

@@membersonlysrevenge3473 yes, that's a crash
He bent some suspension components upon impact. Easy repair thought apart from the body scratches.
That’s what he told his mom

Why did I think of Lightning McQueen when he was going sideways 😂
Same😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Shit happens. At least he's out there doing what he loves.
No, he *was* doing what he loves up until about the :36 mark, but then he ran out of talent. He didn't love the rest.
He came off throttle mid corner @130mph , what did he expect
i didnt even know these got up that high lol
@@user-pl7lr5dn8q topped mine at like 140, took a while but got there
thats sad to hear for such a cool fast looking car
@@user-pl7lr5dn8q haha it's only a flat 4 n/a, meant for carrying speed thru corners not top speed or acceleration. They're slow but they're hella fun!!
i want one but imma wait till they are under 10k on the used market. somethinh fun to save gas money on lol
B i g S p o i l e r N e e d e d
No, actually he lost traction in the rear because he was on the brakes when he shouldn't have been. Him being on the brakes at that point caused the weight of the car and all the traction to transfer to the front and the rear tires lost traction while the front tires still had traction and the momentum of the car was heading towards the outside and that's where the car spun to. A wing might have mitigated the error to some degree, but it isn't the solution. Better technique and more track knowledge is what he needs, not a wing. That car should have had no problems in that corner and all the mechanical grip necessary at that speed to make it through with sufficient traction if he had entered the corner properly.
@@Bryce10011 big spoiler comment still funny though
Way to slow reflex and staying in one position with arms for to much time...
@@igorkolobaric3393 faster reflex could have saved him from crashing, but it didn't cause the crash. He should have stayed on throttle.
Wow!
People dont realize how easy it is to lose the rear end there when you lift. I almost lost it twice because i started lifting a little bit, better off just keeping it flat, or during TF just break a slight bit before and keep it flat when you lose the weight. Difficult corner when ur pushing laptimes for sure.
It’s the only way truly. Anything else is dangerous.
@@KingENDLESS Not really, you just need to keep the steering pointed where you want to go. There are many corners in motorsport where you’re off the throttle and even braking (Snetterton has two for example, Castle Combe one). It’s all about steering correctly. This poor guy was just holding the same steering lock as the balance of the car changed, and didn’t lessen it until it was far too late. In a racing car you need to actually react before it’s even visible!
@@RobManser77 exactly, but I guess one will need proper training from a proper performance driving coach or learn it the hard way.
This is the way!
Just don't lift.. thats literally the only trick to this corner... DO... NOT... LIFT. every time i watch one of these accidents, i can see them lifting. I've literally never had an issue at this corner because you only have one thing to remember!

@@jollesracing517 he's actually right, if you look closely, the driver doesnt counter steer, even though he is feeling the car suddenly losing grip and sliding. and when he does, it's already too late.
my guy took years to react
if he would have corrected he could have overcorrect it and fuck it in the wall at the right and he could have been injured
He is scared bruh i would too he is not a racing driver.
Turn right to go left
He came off the throttle fully MID corner TURN IN and ON A DUCKING CREST!!! There was no way he would come out of that cleanly
I think because he came off the throttle, the weight of the car shifted to the front tires and the rear lost traction and so it oversteered. Am i correct or totally wrong?
@@branchprediction9923 you’re kinda right yes. This is one of the fastest parts of the track with a crest so the car goes light regardless. Lots of big crashes here
I think you did well; you kept looking and steering to where the car was going. Damage was really minimal.
Glad you are okay! I thought that you can't have an active lap timer in the Nordschleife?
Em, I think it is not even allowed to use a camera ;-)
@@ThomasEntner you are allowed to use a camera, you just can't upload crash footage lol. Timing the lap is also not allowed

That's what you to get to spec a gt86 with an auto

I suspect he let off the throttle going into that corner which caused the rear to step out but not sure.
Liftoff oversteer?
Yep, he was going in that fast corner too quickly (212kph), came off the gas as he begun to turn and the rear got loose. I believe 200kph is too fast for that turn in a BRZ (skinny tires, little downforce). Probably a piece of cake in a GT3 or something similar
@@audioamateur yup, had that happen once. No wreck but about 5 seconds on interesting physics...
Also he was far too slow on the counter steer. As soon as he heard the tires screetching he should have been feeding in some opposite lock very quickly
Now I was in a FWD car 5 speed manual, but what I did to recover was let off the gas when the tail swung out and counter steered and recovered instead of rolling head over heels in the grass. Had a mid sized spoiler. Then got on the gas when it recovered.
@@audioamateur I believe that if he would have turned a bit more to the opposite side and he would have caught the rear. I've done this circuit in the simulator and it is possible to recover when you enter this curve.
GT86 without manual transmission, this is very sad
Hey, wo kommen denn plötzlich die ganzen Views her?
Bist wohl vom Algorithmus empfohlen ;) Zumindest bei mir.
Same
Honestly that looked very weird, something s wrong with car or setup... I had 2 gt86 and they are the most predictable and easy to drive sport cars. To get oversteer you always have to do it intentionally under normal conditions
There is one simple rule: NEVER Lift Through Schwedenkreuz!
Guy wasn’t on the throttle that might be the issue
I also think the ESP could have settle this one before it came to a slide. Im not an expert but i thought cars are safer to drive fast nowdays. Or there something else involved other than lifting the gas pedal during cornering...
@@Sim-903 he had esp off thats for sure. I couldn't get sideways with esp even on snow, its very good system
@@Angry-Lynx Yeah, i mean i drive a vw golf with esp, and you can go there 160 km/h lifting or nor lifting. I assume the gt86 is more capable to handle this corner with esp if not driven like a total madman. Esp off its another story i think
Perfect scenario of a "Lift-Off Oversteer"
yep.... you absolutely cannot lighten the rear in this section! It's not a hard rule to remember, and it doesn't look like it was this guys first time. I mean its a 200bhp GT86 for gods sake... even flat out he'd have no reason to lift, he simply wouldn't be going fast enough!
Rookie mistake. Dont lift off the throttle while taking corners. Shifts the weight off the wheels and messes with the center of balance
Very educational, glad you're okay. Was it because of lifting the throttle? I had a crash like this but at half the speed
That was liftoff oversteer. It's common in lightweight RWD cars and mid-engine cars. If he slowed before the corner and planted the throttle (that's a fast corner), he would have been able to power through it without the oversteer.
@@ThePhillkillv2 funny thing is.. I had a lift-off oversteer in a fwd. That caught me totally off guard
@@ThePhillkillv2 i should have accelerated again
Lift off throttle -> engine braking/regular braking -> weight transfers forward -> rear end loses grip -> oversteer
Thats why learning how to drive your car fast in a controlled environment like autocross or track days is important, you get to learn how your car will react in situations like that or avoid them entirely
@@fups1 the problem is: I'm a mechanical engineer, studied load transfer in formula SAE project, knew what a lift-off can lead to. But when it happened with a few lift off in a fwd, it surprised me. And being not focused, experienced and actually know what I was really doing, i panicked by the surprise lol. And made it worse giving in a bigger lift... And than break to brace impact
you went to fast for your car's capabilities so the time you came off the gas the rear begun slide. you need bigger tires and downforce in order to maintain that speed in corner or you have to entry with lower speed. it happens every time be careful.
No offence but why do people go track driving, push their cars near the limit but don't know how to correct a slide?
Auto: first mistake
It's always the same crash at Schwedenkreuz, riding up the hill at the turn-in point there's tonnes of grip and then people just get launched sideways once they crest the hill and the road starts dropping away. I realise the entire track is originally a test-track designed to test limits but Schwedenkreuz has to take the crown. That corner is designed to make people crash.
SX doesn’t take prisoners. Always treat the corner with respect
and thats why you dont roll into corners like that coasting

Yes it most definitely is very prohibited 👍

è andata in sovrasterzo?
My mans got speed blind. Entering that schwedenkreuz at 200km/h with GT86 xD
If the 86 had a wing he would’ve made the corner at 173, that was the speed when he lost control
I think he had tire issues that was weird. He did save it do, i don’t think he hit the wall and if he did it wasn’t by much.
automatic gt86?? already crash
Nice job on the quick reaction!
People are talking about this being trailing throttle oversteer....
The 1989 Nissan 300ZX and 240SX have a multi-link rear suspension that toes-in for more traction to reduce the trailing-throttle problem. 30 years later and the GT86 rear suspension has none of this basic tech? Is that right?
The hill brow can also create this phenomenon. This is bad weight transfer.
quick reaction? hahaha
I hope you're ok! Can I ask did you turn traction control all the way off? Or was it in track mode traction control?
Thank you, I am OK (and it was one and a half years ago, no clue why the views are suddenly exploding...). Yes, I had the traction control completely off (pressing the button for 3 seconds).
@@ThomasEntner I'm glad to hear you're alright. I thought turning the TC off completely means it can only be done by the "Pedal dance"? Like in this video: ua-cam.com/video/ASZAgTi3_gM/v-deo.html&ab_channel=RaulQuintana
I always thought pressing the VSC button will only disable it partially and it interferes at times where the skid is uncontrollable. Maybe you can educate me more about this.
As for the massive increase in views suddenly, well that's just the youtube algorithm working its wonders :D. But I was watching videos about GT86/BRZ so that's how I ended up here. I'd love to own a manual GT86 but man these haters are annoying. Just enjoy your GT86 regardless of the transmission choice, it's a fun car to drive :D
@@Marcuskrh I don't think traction control would have done much.
@@ThePhillkillv2 I never said that TC would help in over speeding into corners. I was just curious to know how GT86 could've behaved with and without TC when the rear slips at high speed.

i was there in July and August.

Damn it piss me off when i don't understand why a crash happens 😂 poor tires ? Stopped accelerating too quickly?
He had a pony tail
woah it looks way scarier with how shakey this video is compared to a properly mounted camera lol
Watching a city car like the 1 Serie pass a coupé is so weird.
I hope you come from north america to call the 1 series a city car... because in europe it's 2 market segments above (and in excess of 2 feet longer than) what we call city cars in here
The GT86 is quite low powered for the track, only 200 bhp and 205 Nm. (But you do not need more to have fun if your ego can deal with being passed by faster cars.) The BMW had probably more bhp and much more torque (and is more expensive). BTW: The speed difference looks much more in the video as I backed off to let him pass.
@@ThomasEntner Sure thing. What I meant is that it's weird to see a cool-looking car like the GT86 get passed by an anonymous, common and boring-looking car like the 1 Serie. Same thing goes when a fridge-shaped Mercedes G63 beats most coupés on a straight line. Sometimes all you need is a ton of power.
Isn't timed laps illegal on tourist events on Nordschleife?
You got a lot to learn 😂
What does one even do in a situation like this? And is this unique to rear wheel drive only? What caused this?
Too late by the time he reacted. Keep steady gas during the corner
Firstly don't unsettle the car this was caused by weight transfer. Lifting off power caused weight to transfer to the front so the rear lost grip. In this position you want the weight to go back into the rear so slowly get back on power but not enough to break traction though. They needed to also counter steer a bit into it but was quite late in that, there is a fine line with counter steering as not enough won't fix the slide, too much will cause you to snap the other way.
Not unique to rear wheel drive cars but is most likely to found in rear wheel drive car, you can actually drift a fwd car using lift off oversteer.
@@ScottCommons Thank you for that clear explanation, and also for adding that bit on counter steering.
Lift off oversteer, very big mistake a lot of people make when taking corners

Learn how to drive and how a car behaves if you don`t accelerate through the corner without taking your foot of the throttle.
Well you dont enter a corner with 200km lol
Its usually taken between 190-220 kph depending on the car / tires/ weight. But u just never lift off the throttle mid corner. It wasnt the speed, he just lifted.

never lift .
90% of people here giving steering advice probably have never driven a car and only use public transit
These guys need to do some more sim racing. To understand weight transfer. No offence.
Bro almost saved it
not an expert but that counter steer looked really slow...glad your okay though :)
It happens in a second. If you're expecting oversteer like wanting to do a drift around a corner you start putting in counter steer before the rear even breaks loose. Racecar drivers can sense the moment before the rears break loose and can start putting in counter steer even when they didn't expect it. 60% of people would have had a minor accident like the video. 35% would have froze and smashed into the barrier and about 5% would have actually saved it. It's easy to say the reaction time was slow from the safety of our chairs
Also muss hier ja irgendwas passiert sein.
