Thank you for this Misha. This was exceptional. You know ... as much as foot work is amazing ... I would really appreciate if you could (instead of a camera looking at the driver from the side) show from behind the driver his steering inputs. I've been trying to study how great drivers turn in, back off, turn again ... to try to understand what they're doing. But from the side it's almost impossible to think through the turn and look at the steering inputs simultaneously. I know I'm just one guy ... and I love watching foot work also. But that really would be amazing. As it is, it's hard to imagine that a side angle of the driver is superior to seeing their hands or their reactions. It's not like we have any idea what you guys are saying. I know [that] you're talking to each other, but not what you're talking about. Just can't hear it over the engine. Perhaps if you used lav mics..? But that's a question to you whether that's important enough. And, it'd also be a real cost ... bc you'd have to use SMPTE code equipment to sync up multiple audio sources ... as audio sources often use 44.1khz to define a second. Whereas video is in seconds. Because of those slightly varied timings ... often the sound from external devices that aren't SMTPE encoded will be slightly different from a handicam, etc. I'm sure your video guy knows all about it. And for that reason I do understand forgoing those lav mics in race. But the over-the-shoulder cam is hard for me to understand how it's inferior to a profile view. Of course, I do know what's involved in these projects, as I've done some myself (not racing). And I know a ton more goes into it. You have all my respect. AND, my reverence for being a Rusky!! That was bloody fast, even with him having room for error everywhere. I don’t know if I see it right, but it looks that he has still a lot of steering angle at 75% of the corners. Looks for me a lot in that stage of the corner.
In racing u don't steer using all the angle, the most angle u will have is in the apex while the car coast, now the trail braking is making the rotation, the car is floating (the car wants to understeer with the weight shift) and Kevin just give some imputs to the car to not spin, but in the verge, making the car turn more. U can clearly see that when he is going outside a corner, the wheel is almost straight but the car is still turning, because the rear is making the rotation and the front is just pointing, is the same as braking, but now the rotation is with the accelerator and you are playing with the understeer
