The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is proud to celebrate the 44th Honorees for lifetime artistic achievements: operatic bass-baritone Justino Díaz, Motown founder, songwriter, producer, and director Berry Gordy, Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels, legendary stage and screen icon Bette Midler, and singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell.
"The Kennedy Center Honors celebrates luminaries whose art and creativity have enriched us beyond measure," stated Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein. "With his distinguished, deeply resonant voice and storied operatic career, Justino Díaz, stood on the stages of the world's great opera houses and today stands as one of the greatest bass-baritones of our time; visionary music producer and songwriter Berry Gordy brought the quintessential soulfulness of Detroit into every home in America , elevating the Motown sound to become a national treasure; Lorne Michaels created the most enduring 'must-see television' with Saturday Night Live, a show that is both mirror and muse for life in America; an artistic tour de force and America's Divine Miss M, Bette Midler has enjoyed an unrivaled and prolific career, entertaining millions with her wondrous voice and trademark comedic wit; and songstress Joni Mitchell, blends raw, deeply personal lyrics with her stunningly ethereal voice in 19 albums, becoming one of the most influential singer-songwriters and cultural figures in 20th-century popular music."

It's time to honor Celine Dion. Before it's too late. She was first one, to break the glass ceiling, to be as commercially successful as men of her time. She was selling album every second, which was still a thing that MJ, would do. She is critically acclaimed (oscar, grammy, GG, BMA), commercially successful (2nd best selling female as in 2021), had great impact on music industry (adele and ariana and their obsession admirable for her, and Celines impact on their music is visible. It just seems late that she isn't honored yet.
Before it is too late? Celine Dion is 53 years old...

Arturo Sandoval, Mick Jagger & Keith Richards, Whoopi Goldberg, Jane Fonda, Cynthia Gregory and Frankie Valli should be getting the honors soon. They’re long overdue

@@kathylill8990 Absolutely. Frank Sinatra once praised him for his entertainment. He produced for Bette Midler to Dionne Warwick. He’s been nominated by the Grammys in different categories multiple times. He’s had 51 top 40 singles on the AC charts. He’s even one of the world’s best selling artists of all time.
Anyone else get the vibe that the public are done with celebrities throwing honours at themselves. All these award ceremonies have become so naff. I’d rather watch paint dry.

No offense to the honorees, but it was obnoxious to hear the snide political comments and even more offensive that one of the hosts, David Letterman, was allowed to emcee it....a man who got off Scott free for abusing his power by having sexual relations with one of his interns. Why was he allowed to continue on with his career when most who have done the same and who have apologized haven't been given a break?
It is obscene to see part of the wealthy US "cultural élite" laughing and approving the stupid joke of David Letterman about the "left and extreme left". The US are committing suicide.
