- RawTherapee is a powerful tool for working with raw files. I recently made a ttutorial on the basics of RawTerapee to get you started quickly. In this video I talk about the basics of batch processing photos using RawTherapee and talk about how to use templates in RawTerapee (how to apply the settings of one photograph to another). This tutorial is quick and simple to save you some time.

I have come back to your video four times, this is freaking a wealth of information
Hi! I'm very glad to hear that I was able to provide value for you. Kind regards!
Thanks Tom. Love to see how others are using RawTherapee, especially in Linux. I often wonder what features cause folk to spend money on monthly subscription to Adobe products. RT is excellent and I think that I have only scratched the surface of it. Looking forward to seeing your future time lapse photo processing.
Hello Cliff! I, too, don't see good reasons to switch to proprietary software. I think the main reason why people do it is because they're used to a certain tool and old habits are hard to break. There's also expectation that if you pay more then you get more. I think with software this is often not true. Most people use just a small fraction of options their software tool offers. They generally use only the options that are common among all tools - proprietary or not, cheap or expensive. So they could just as easily "downgrade" if it saves money. It's of course still possible that if you're a pro and there's an option only one tool offers and your career depends on it, then it makes sense to pay more if needed.
Thank you Tom. Excellent. Please do more and if you can please share the photos you have used in the tutorial.
Hi Thiru! Thank you very much, indeed. I have published several of my photo galleries here on UA-cam and I will continue to do so. Kind regards!
Thank you! Very helpful.
Hi Aaron. Thank you so much for watching. I'm glad you found my video useful. Kind regards!
Excellent
Hi! Thank you so much for watching. Kind regards!
thanks a lot, this was really helpfull
Hi! Thank you so much for watching. Kind regards!
Thank yoy. I couldn't figure out, how to use profile in all images at once.
Hi Adam! Thanks for asking. I'd like to help you. You need to click on the icon of the image that's going to be the profile donor. Then you select the other images and simply paste the profiles. For this you'd use the right click of your mouse. Let me know what system you are using (Mac, Win, Linux?) and where (in what step) you see problems.
Thanks Tom for a straight forward and informative tutorial. If you don't mind would like to ask perhaps an unrelated question to your video. Is it possible to group images in RawTherapy? It is something that can be done in Lightroom by selecting a number of images then, I think, pressing ctrl+g to group all the images under on image. This is something you can also do in Darktable but I have not found a way to do it in RawTherapy. Very useful when you take a series of images to be stitched into a panorama.
Hi TheStanford01! I'm glad you liked the video. Thank you for this interesting question. I've never done anything like this but searching around on UA-cam I found this video for you: ua-cam.com/video/8XjUIG4sZO8/v-deo.html . Maybe this can help you a bit. Kind regards!
Thank you so much! 🎉
Hi! Thank you very much for watching. Kind regards!
Another great tutorial Tom, thanks.👍👍Would a template created this way be similar to a 'preset' created in Lightroom?
Hi Peter! I'm glad you liked my video. My Lightroom experience is unfortunately quite limited and I don't know if Lightroom preset is similar to this template. Kind regards!
bro u r a legend, God bless!~
Hi! Thanks so much. Kind regards!
thank you
Hi! Thank you very much for watching. Kind regards!
thanks for sharing
Hi dfgoijoi! Thank you very much for watching. Kind regards!
Thanks for this. Probably a very basic question, but is there a way to take a bunch of edited RAW images from RAW Therapee into GIMP, then make a bunch of changes there, i.e. inside GIMP, and then batch process them.
Hi! Thank you for this question. It's easy to make GIMP batch process images (you need a plugin for this). However when you try to open a raw image in GIMP and you have RawTherapee installed then GIMP will initiate RawTherapee for you so that you could batch process your images there. At least this is what's happening on my Linux machine. Best of luck to you!
@@tom_photo Will try that thanks. By “there” you mean RawTherapee itself right.
@@accentontheoff Hi! Yes, GIMP will open RawTherapee for you when you try to open a raw file in GIMP. This is what's happening on my computer. These two tools are "aware" of each other.
@@tom_photo Got it thanks.
Thanks
Hi Tejas! Thank you very much for watching. Kind regards!
EXCELLENT
Hi BoringSoftware! Absolutely. I also like to do things from bash terminal. Thanks so much for watching. Kind regards!

@@boringsoftware2093 Hi BoringSoftware! Thank you so much for watching. Kind regards!
@@tom_photo creditz go to u because your video is excellent and helps a lot of user :D imho RawTherapee is pretty cool for enhancing those not-so-great phone pictures :D (can not afford 10000 fujitsu X)
un gran ok por subtitular en spanis, español muchas gracias
¡Hola! Muchas gracias por mirar. ¡Atentamente!
What if i have both .jpg and .nef in my folder. can i just select the .nef files?
Hi Friedrich! Thanks for asking. Yes, absolutely you can choose either one, whichever you want to work on. Kind regards!
@@tom_photo What if i have hundreds of files, is there an option to mark only the nef files?
@@Kompanie17 Hi! Oh I see what you're asking. The easiest thing is to first put your nef and jpg files in different folders. Then you don't have to worry about selecting anything from among hundreds of files. Cheers!
@@tom_photo Okay, thank you very much! I hoped there would be some sort of button. But this workaround does the job.
@@Kompanie17 Hi Hi Friedrich! I found it for you now. When you are in Raw Therapee go to "File browser". On my screen it's the tab on the left. Then you see the "Filter" tab on the right. Look at the filter options, scroll down and you'll see a tick box before each file type. There you can choose your file type. Sorry that it took me so long, I never needed this option before. Best of luck to you!
