There isn't a whole lot of tutorials on Rawtherapee on the web, but of the ones I've seen yours is definitely the best. You've gained a subscriber. I hope you do a deep dive into all the functions at some stage though, since you covered most of the stuff I've figured out already.
This is my go to video when I haven't used things in a while. Every now and then I will get a photo and just blank on how to process them properly. I keep coming back and watching this and I get an amazing edit every time. Thanks SO much for this video. It has helped me a ton. Especially when dealing with tone curves. They confuse me for some reason but your help brings it all back into focus (badum tsss) :)
Thank you SO much. Recently got an Olympus, producing ORF RAW files. You've saved me a huge amount of hassle. My desktop PC has been Linux only (Kubuntu now) since the era of win95, so a LONG time. You've just shown me I definitely don't need to install windows dual-boot just to use OM Workshop. RawTherapee looks at least as good, probably better and is now installed in seconds from Synaptic.
Great overview of RT. I do wish people would stop talking about how RT being open source or free is the killer feature. RT has a lot more to offer and comes with some killer features compared to other RAW processors. I'm willing to pay for a great RAW processor if it means I get great image quality. RawTherapee does have a bit of a learning curve but it is worth the investment. The high quality floating point conversions alone are worth it. Options to select your democratizing algorithm, using color profiles, even JPEG matching just to mention some of the great features.
I totally agree. price tag is normally why people get into using rawtherapee in the first place. I know it was for me. But once I started learning it, I was overwhelmed with all the options. IT IS SO POWERFUL! And that is why I stayed with it. thanks so much for your feedback!
@@shadowbreaker RT can read the embeded JPEG and atempts to match the curves to give you a image similar to what you would have gotten with the original JPEG. There is more to that but it is something.
Good info here…thank you Found myself fighting to stay awake w ( subtle, but sleepy)background music. Was looking to get help w method for setting Black and white points. Have never seen approach u use w Tone Curve, for that task. Much appreciated!!
I have downloaded the program and hardly used it? And because of your tutorial I am inspired to learn it and use it. Your explanation is very good and simple. Thank you very much.
Thank you for the great videos , It helps me ALOT! watching your RT tutorials helps to improve my editing skills and understand what I am actually doing ! Thanks!!!
Even though I haven't installed Rawtherapee yet (im just researching what the program can do and if it's of good use to me), this looks very promising! You've had my attention throughout the whole video and I feel like I've learned a lot. Great video, keep it up!
Thanks for your presesntation of RawTherapee. I have been considering this versus DarkTable. Both are good, but the deal breaker for me with DarkTable is, the interface fonts can not be changed, or at least I did not discover how to do so. The fonts are too tiny to be practical for me. I have to get close to the screen and look at them squint-eyed. In RawTherapee it is easy to change interface font sizes. Thanks again.
great video! with this short but precise video I learned everything I wanted to know and now I can start to editing my photos.. thanks from a former lightroom user
Sure looks like a nice app. I downloaded it after watching this video but after doing so, found out it does not support CR3 files. Which is Canon's new format for RAW. Maybe they'll add that feature in the future.
It was a great video, I use Rawtherapee quite a lot, and it is by far one of the best I have used in years, I actually prefer it to photoshop. Incidentally has anyone told you that you have the same voice and accent as Eric Dubay? It's uncanny lol Thanks again mate.
Would RawTherapee and Gimp make a good pair, the latter for local adjustments and all kinds of image manipulations. Thanks, super tutorial. P.S. The music is a little random, but it somehow works for me :)
Thank you Jacob for the tutorials. I am new to RawTherapee. Running on Windows computer. When I open the editor "Auto matched Tone Curve" is greyed out. May I know why and how to make it active? TX
@@garys639 how is disrespectful if I express my opinion that the music is not appropriate for this tutorial... btw i said didgeridoo music cause it sounds very similar I don't know what instrument was used for that particular piece... and also I'm very aware that didgeridoo makes beautifully haunting music... sorry you felt i was being disrespectful
WHen you turn the noise reduction on and off I literally can't see a change in the picture. But I really appreciate the tutorial. I just got a Lumix G85.
The Lumix G85 is a great camera! When you turn on noise reduction, you need to be at the 1:1 zoom ratio (its a little button at the bottom of the image window). You then need to increase the the luminance slider in order to start adding noise reduction.
Outstanding tutorial. Thanks for it. One thing I need to ask : there is no mention of how to remove patches appearing due to dirt on the sensor or lens. Is that covered in some other tutorial? Which one? Thanks :).
Rawtherapee doesn't natively support that feature. So the best option is to export your photo as a tiff and then use gimp to remove the spots. Here is my tutorial on that: ua-cam.com/video/V33N0vEkX58/v-deo.html
I prefer RawTherapee to Darktable. In my opinion its just more straight forward. Fantastic video, thanks a lot !
You should remove that didgeridoo music in the backgroud... makes me feel like I'm watching a horror movie 😬
Great tutorial btw thanks!

Hello jacob, what kind of os u r using for editing your phots..
Thank you !
How did you delete that HSV equalizer node? It seems that the delete button didn't work for me
Thanks for the video.
Also how do you view the before photo so you could compare it?
Any comments regarding whether I should go for RawTherapee or DARKTABLE?
Darktable seems to have more functions like masks and all.
