This is why I reel left handed. It’s mind boggling how pros will fish a Baitcaster right hand but a spinning rod left hand. Just left hand all the time and avoid the switch of hands!
Edwin, cattails have the cigar shaped head on top. Bass fan the sand of the roots to spawn in and the roots protect the fry. As always great project e on how to fish a crowded lake.🎣🐟🙏
@@matthewhairell1456 I was taught a long time ago... cast right, reel left. Saves time switching hands all the time. Especially if a Bass hits your bait hard while you are switching hands, and you almost loose a rod. I see many pros switching hands.
Excellent lesson by sharing your thought process as you fished. Paying attention to how far you were casting when bit & how they were getting bit on the fall. This helped you develop a pattern to duplicate where you can kept flipping & didn't have to work the bait and could cover more water. Being ready when the bait hits the water was another good tip. I like the tip of throwing something different with different fall rate since the pressure was high. Your videos are priceless. Thanks, my friend! Now I'm gonna catch a few more.
Thank you so much. This was my request for new Project E. We fish alot of small lakes that are heavily fished. Having a hard time with catching fish. Most of these lakes are hit really hard on weekends. I appreciate the great info on this. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us.
Great job Edwin, you pretty much figured Decker out quickly, outside edge of the cattails is it on that lake most of the time unless you find some offshore grass. Oh ya, and don’t sell yourself short, I would be just as excited to see an Edwin Evers on a local lake as much as a KVD!… Thanks for all your info and your awesome personality towards the sport.
Edwin, one of my favorite memories was catching bass in cattails. Lake Hodges in San Diego on a weekend club tournament in 1976. Found one small section in the cattails that had several big bass. I used a motor oil colored worm. Back than I wasn't smart enough to understand why they were in that one area. After seeing your project e videos I sure wish I could go back. I would have probably won that tournament. Thanks Edwin. 🎣🐟🙏
I flip and pitch a lot over cat tails from the bank and I tell you it’s a whole lot of fun especially setting the hook and get the fish back over the cat tails and landing em. Thanks for these tips because I know I can use them from the bank and be successful. 🤙 keep up the good work.
In my experience, Cat tails much shallower water and yes bullrushes or in Florida I call sawgrass more dense and would even think of throwing in there...Great video Edwin.....
So when you are running that rig with the clacker on it, do you run a stopper a little ways up or does it stay together and don't have that separation of them on the fall? Awesome stuff watch as much as I can. Ever fish Montana?
Cat tails are flat with the brown seed pods on top bull rushes are round but I manage to hook em both set up weedless drive the hook into them and have to go to them and rip them things up to retrieve my stuff. Pain in the royal _ss. Lol
Question...If all the bites are on the fall. (reaction bite), why would you not switch to a reaction bait like a squarebill of bladed jig or something like that?
I fish this lake. My PB came from this lake 7lbs. in the discharge. This was cool watching you on this lake. Next time your in the area try Bastrop or Fayette lake!!! Fayette is my favorite of the three.
I struggle with not covering enough water trying to find fish. I also need to work on my offshore fishing game on my home lake. It’s a river based lake so we don’t have many points on the upper part that i normal fish.
With the wind blowing in on the shorelines you fished I'm curious to know if you had considered or even tried a spinnerbait? Or is it the wrong time of year with spawning fish to use one? Thx, and enjoying your E series.
Great video awesome information will try next time out on the water. Question if the water us deep enough would your sides can pick up any fish? And is it worth using it ?
I assume you’re talking about flipping these cat tails? No I’ve never seen a situation where the side scan would pick up fish in this situation. The active target or forward scan is a different story I think I could see them swimming outside the cat tail line.
Thats similar to the Potomac River and other lakes near DC. Were all the fish shallow or did you mark any deeper? What do you think work better in pressured lakes larger or smaller baits?
I saw a few fish out deep but I was unable to get them to bite. As far as large or smaller baits that’s what I always have to figure out. Generally speaking in the spring and summer it’s going to be smaller and in the fall I will go big.
Edwin, Walter E. Long/Decker lake to us locals, is NOT a working power planet. The main plant has a sizable crack in the foundation and the only part still working is for transporting the electricity from the solar panel field on the southwest side of the lake. the lake is known for 8-10 lb fish on a regular basis. Flipping the reeds or running a 3/4 oz rattle trap in Gold Sexy Shad, ripping it out of the grass is about the only 2 technics that always work.
No need to peg with that cover. He’s mostly flipping outside/against the cover in this situation and it doesn’t effect the fall. Usually, peg and increase weight when flipping directly into the thick stuff.
@@EdwinEversfishing haha! You deserve it to show it off if you want. I think we all see how humble a champion you are. Thanks for sharing so much of your knowledge with us!
I hear you say you are not seeing a Shad spawn. What are you looking for to tell you that. I fish lakes that has no docks for the Shad to spawn around.
I think you dismiss your self as one of the greatest fishing men in the sport Edwin you are if not better then KVD in my eyes, keep doing what you do man :)
What’s the difference between CATTAILS and BULRUSHES?! Let me know what you think! 👇
Bullrushes seem to grow in a little more deeper water than cattails in my experience...and cattails are a little less dense
Same species but different variety.

Awesome Texas lake fishing. Thank you for the tips.
I like seeing u on brand new lakes w no history
I really love the way you teach !

Was this during the Travis event?

As you say, think outside the box. It’s a must on crowded waters and can be a huge difference maker in tournaments especially!
"Think outside the box" .... but do what everyone else is doing...
Great video on one of the lakes I like to fish. Thanks Edwin!

Bunch of kayak tournaments on that lake!
I have the older True Timber sunshirt and it is AWESOME, which one is that?
Hey Edwin reeds are round with a point and cat tails have brown tubular seed pods at the top. Great stuff
how do you hook up your go pro like that ? dont see the chestie thing?

Muddy Waters what is the best bait for muddy water high pressure
Where do you find those clackers you use when pitching and flipping?

It probably would’ve been a great bait. No I didn’t dry it
Good break down
i googled the difference between cattail and bulrush and still dont know the difference LOL great video man
Cat tails have flatter stalks the reeds or bulrushes have very round stalks
Great video awesome information will try next time out on the water. Question if the water us deep enough would your sides can pick up any fish? And is it worth using it ?

How do you detect the bite on the fall im new to pitching and flipping and want to get into it
You need to watch your line. When it stops suddenly less than the depth it is a bite..
Thats similar to the Potomac River and other lakes near DC. Were all the fish shallow or did you mark any deeper? What do you think work better in pressured lakes larger or smaller baits?

When fishing in the cattails do you put your bait in the cattails or just on the edge? As always thanks for the valuable lesson, sir!
Generally speaking I am going to fish the points and guts but it’s different every day that’s what we both have to figure out!
Thought you were going to pack up and follow Kevin. Just kidding, great video!
Do you have the weight pegged?
where do you get the "clackers"?
I like when you do this kind of teaching. Come do Bull Shoals Edwin

My buddy was just there fun fishing last week swim bait was the deal there
I could definitely see that now that I have left. Thanks for the comment
Somebody educate me........why would you not peg the weight flipping like this? Thanks for a great video Edwin!

Hey what is the brand shirt you wear with the built in hood and face mask
Was wondering the same thing
If I had to guess I say it’s a pelagic gear shirt. I have the aftco shirts and love them.
Wake boats are my favorite 🤣
I hear you say you are not seeing a Shad spawn. What are you looking for to tell you that. I fish lakes that has no docks for the Shad to spawn around.
Shad spawn can happen on anything it’s not just docks. They will spawn on those cat tails on hydrilla on anything really.
Awesome. Support Oklahoma Native fisherman.
so an unknown lake yet KVD shows up? like magic? I guess you have a tournament there soon?
No it’s a very small lake he was taking one of his sponsors and their son fishing.

A cat won't rush at a bull's tail.
I just laughed. I'll take bites no matter how different they are. I suck so I take what I can get.
