The statement mark made about fish remembering something traumatic for six months if that’s true we’re all in trouble we won’t be Catchin very many fish😩
Of all the videos you’ve made this has to be one of the top 10. I am 73 years old and have been fishing Bass, Crappie, and Pearce for 68 years of my life and I learned more than any other video I ever watched. I also am in the process of changing my boxes to at least 90% Berkeley baits.
The Berkley Research Video was Awesome. The information has lead me to purchase a large number of Berkley products. Anglers baits, hooks, line, etc. and more. Quality Baits in the upper price range are still the least expensive part of an angulars overall expense to bass fish. Thanks Edwin !
when you fish for a living / tournaments and you tube $$$ you can afford house and boat to fish from. I'm poor and apartment living no boats no house to store one. bank fishing is the only way I can go, but you help with so much info on fishing, that I take to heart when fishing everywhere in KY. Thanks.
My question would be to ask Mike, being a bass's sense of smell is so great and capable of memory retention, do they recognize human scent and detour when they come into contact. Should we be careful not to over handle our baits to prevent contaminating it with human or any other scent that may detour fish? I'd love to spend some time in the Berkley research facilities to better understand how they come to conclude their studies. Very interesting stuff! 👍
I can not remember where I saw this - perhaps a recent article in In-fisherman but I believe their finding was that fish were deterred actually by sun block and therefor if handling a bait would unknowingly deter fish if it was on your hands. My assumption is the same as yours - they can smell us. No doubt. And our fears of getting skunked.
as Kaili Purviance mentioned, I don't want to induce human odors on lures, so I carry a box of nitrile gloves in my boat so I can apply sunscreen and NOT get it on fingers and palms. I do dab or tap the back of my hand on an area of my arm where sunscreen is applied to get some protection on back of my hands (I can't get use to fishing gloves). Bill Dance said the back of his hands are severely sun damaged because sunscreen technology was not very understood in 60's, 70's, and 80;s.
They have spray on/aerosol sun screen. But I recommend using neck gaiters, they also have long sleeve light material with built in UV protection, same with shorts and pants. Just do an online search. I use this gear and never put on sun screen.
Great video. I learned a ton, but the biggest thing I took away was that bass in one body of water will set up differently than bass in another body of water based on forage. That makes too much sense can't believe it's never dawned on me before. Great stuff! I'll watch this three more times just to make sure I pick up every little nugget this guy drops.
Evers seems humble. He knows so much that he understands the value of always trying to learn. He just listens, probably can out fish the Berkley Doc 10 to 1 but he just listens to learn.
My observation exactly, Mr wizard is a know-it-all that needs his ego stroked every few seconds and has zero sense of humor. (Ohh I know this and ohh I know that). Lol
Edwin you have quickly become one of my favorite “go to” teachers of this sport. This is an awesome video and confirms why you are as good as you are-never stop learning and remaining humble. By the way, I can’t remember the details exactly but the last time I got to go fishing, I watched your video on chatterbaits with your son, I believe. 10 minutes into the trip I was pulling in a 3 Lber using the technique you spoke of. Thanks
Man that’s a completely new perspective to catch fish. More about thinking and seeing like a fish. We all know pumpkin is a staple in all our boats, but I guess I’m wondering now when the fish go through the periods when they just smash a bright yellow or bubble gum swimming worm or Senko. Wonder what color they are seeing then? Keep these great videos coming.
Well I've been bass fishing now over 40 years and I'm not to proud to say I learned a ton from this one video. Never knew bass had hairs, that their sense of smell is better than a bloodhound and the list goes on. 25 minutes well spent, thank you and do a part two to this video!
Guys, humans have a sense of balance from the cilia (hairs) in our eustachian tube in our ears. That is why when we spin around a stop suddenly we fell dizzy and unbalanced. The cilia continue in the original direction for a while. It make sense that fish a a way to sense balance and movement.
Super informative - brilliant to interview someone who is a scientist with Berkley and has a MSc in Fisheries Management! Thanks so much for the video.
Edwin, FANTASTIC JOB !!!! This is such a great feature from Lowrance. As a Lowrance Pro Staff, here in OKC, OK. I will be sharing how to use this feature in my seminars. For use on small bodies of water that are not well mapped, this is a game changer.
WOW, EE i'm 45 been bass fishin probly since i was 3yrs old and i have learned more in this video than i have ever learned about that little green fish that drives us to do what we love. Thanks for puttin it out bro, keep em comin. Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn better lookout now😁😁😁🎣🎣🎣
Edwin by far your teaching abilities are the best. How about making a part 2 and fish a river system. I live minutes from the Ohio River and would like to know Mark’s thoughts on max scent and power bait in moving water.
Very educational; we would enjoy another segment with you & the biologist; maybe some more of your questions and or viewer questions. I talk a lot and I promise you I would have plenty of questions and comments if I had the opportunity you had! Good Job! Keep ‘‘em coming Edwin!
WOW! Wish I could remember everything Mark talked about in this video, really found it amazing about their senses ,eyes, hearing, smell! Hope I can put a some of this to use next time on the water. Enjoy your channel so much and learning every time, thanks!
Like many Subs on this channel I’m sure I am a Sub on many many other fishing channels. We learn things from each one or we wouldn’t give those channels any views. I’ve watched this particular video several times. Shared it with a few friends and with my fishing club. At first I thought “oh cool. That’s a pretty good one”. But the more I’ve watched it the more I realize what it’s done for me. For me it has tied together A LOT of the other information I’ve received from the other informative fishing videos. Most of them tell you how to fish this lure and that lure. Retrieves, depths, water temps ext. With what Edwin has given us here we can now start to (along some other things) understand what and how they are interpreting what we are presenting. Thank you Edwin and Mark for so freely sharing your professional knowledge of the sport we so deeply love.
Awesome content Edwin! And very good question about memory because we always wonder about that. It sounds like if there is not a “negative experience“ involved (like shaking them off a worm or soft plastic), there’s a higher chance to catch them within the next few days on that same bait. Plus, you’ve probably experienced that many times before too. God bless and tight lines!
Great Video👊🏿! I wish you would have asked him about the bass we catch with black patches on the body or tongue. Because I see alot of video anglers wondering what that is🤷.
That was amazing!!! Tell Mark thx for sharing his knowledge! I amazed as much as you are! Thank you for sharing this with us! I appreciate you. A pro who cares a lot about us rookies. lol. No wonder I never liked BLUE!!! I catch most of my fish on smoke baits, and chartreuse and white. And put rattles on everything. Thx Edwin! 👍🥸🙏
Very, very good episode. A lot of things started to make sense now. Knowledge is power, and not a lot of people is willing to share it. Thanks for sharing with us.
Super interesting. The memory explains why patterns that everyone is throwing stops and you have to find a new pattern or lure. Wonder if they threw a different color crank bait at the bass that wouldn't eat the lure for 6 months if they would chase the new color.
Fantastic as always, Edwin! Fisheries biology is a fascinating topic. In my case, applying it to fishing and the management of a few family farm ponds is icing on the cake. I look forward to trying some of your pecans as well. God Bless from Southwest Georgia!
What a awesome video filled with so much info on bass it makes so much since now. Keep it up Edwin and catching fish never gets old now matter how much I do it
How much do shapes, style of baits actually matter? Like for instance beaver or creature, Swimbaits etc. Thanks Edwin. So much to learn. Mark's knowledge is amazing.
Edwin, I can hardly wait for each project-e you post. There has not been one time I have not learned something new from your videos. Your guest went over several great things about the bass like what colors it sees best. Do you have any idea or Mark why the berkley flat worm works so good? Does it having a flat area really make a difference? Again this was a awesome video. 🎣🐟
I stumbled on the "jig worm" a few months ago and I know everyone has their favorite bait that they think is the best ever but- I'm telling you guys- if you want to have a good day try a pack of Klone Ringo Worms. I picked some up just because I had heard so much about the old LC ring worms and how well they worked- thought maybe these would do the same- and just by luck, I was right. I've never caught so many spotted bass in one trip- they go nuts for these things. Small mouth to- can't resist them. The way they're made- being just a series of disks connected by thin tube in the center- gives them amazing action. The durability isn't great but, they're not especially expensive either so- buy multiple packs- trust me. The candy bug color- which is mostly plum- really works well for me- but so does the sapphire color.
Wow, now I understand why Dad always told me to be still, quit making so much noise. Lol. So I will try the jigworm the next time I hit the water. This totally blew my mind. Hopefully I will get more fish in the boat. Awesome stuff Edwin thanks for another great video.
Out of all the great information in this video, I have to whole heartedly agree that no one wants to live in New York city. I'm from here so I can say it. Does region affect which baits to use?
What about magnetism, what affect does magnetism have on it. Some iron laced rock on Rayburn is magnetic, I've caught spotted bass in and around those rocks. What about it?
*Question for mark* Does red disappear in the water first in the color spectrum for bass also? If so how does this effect or offset what you said about blue being the hardest for them to see in full color and red being what they see the best?
Great info…I’d like to know how Mark explains the effectiveness of the Ned rig. Are bass instinctively tuned to the shape of a crawdad, which the Ned rig seems to imitate?
When a smoker wets his line while clinching a knot, does that leave residue that a Bass can smell? I have a friend that smokes and he uses Berkley scents to wet his knots because he smokes. Just wondering if it makes a difference
Awesome vid! Very informative... what blew my mind the most was that bass have up to a 6 month memory (roughly). I have always been told they only have an 8 second memory. Apparently that's only Dorie! Lol
Dang this is some great and very interesting information on bass. This is info that I've never knew! Man it would be freakin great working with him at Berkeley! Great vid E2!
One of my personal best fish i caught on a worm just like that. I was fishing grass from my kayak, ran out of gear so i improvised this worm set up and bam 7 pounder hammered it. I have been doing this since
Ive got a six acre private pond here LOADED with texas size bass. I do what this man does. Its full of grass, so i just go and test new plastics, or just try something rigged weedless ive never tried before. This was a very cool video. Ive been fishing and observing the bass in the pond i mentioned here, for a while now. Believe it or not, i only found this sacred pond....by google earth hahaha.
Wonder if a bass can feel the presence of your boat when you are in close flipping in muddy water? I did not know they could smell their buddies. Thinking that has something to do with schooling habits. Very thought provoking video!
*Question for Mark* What can you tell me about blue back herring that most don’t know? Why is it that they go shallow or on the bank using ditches if they’re an open water species when they could just stay overnight in the open water?
One of the most informative videos I’ve ever watched. Definitely subscribed to this channel now! I wonder if the bass memory/reluctance to bite the same lure again is due to lure type or lure color or both?
Good information , my sons and I own a small bait company and one of the best color jig we have is blue , green . I wonder why, we also make a lot of jigs and spinner baits with uv flash , I guess that we are wasting our time on that although I have been taught that bait fish have a uv glow to them .
Did this blow your mind like it did mine?? 🤯🤯 Let me know what blew your mind the most! 👇
hairs and pores in the side to know current???? 😱👍
so mind blown that they know the sent of each individual fish! craziness
The statement mark made about fish remembering something traumatic for six months if that’s true we’re all in trouble we won’t be Catchin very many fish😩
About bass having pores and hair didn't know that
Isn’t that nuts?? @jcbassfishing

*Question for Mark*
Can you recommend a book or author or textbook to do research on forage like crawfish, frogs, bluegills, bluebacks etc?
Great video. I learned a ton, but the biggest thing I took away was that bass in one body of water will set up differently than bass in another body of water based on forage. I can't believe I just found this video. I watch every video of yours that I can find. Thank for sharing your knowledge and personality.
Best type of video on UA-cam when it comes to learning and knowing how the fish act, think, etc perfect video from Project E
Great video. It can get old just watching people fish with no education. This was a great balance. Learned a lot. Thanks.
Absolutely Roger thank you for watching!

I do the same thing with a ned head, and just add a longer worm when the river smallies want a bigger meal. Great information!
Thanks for watching Scott!

You bet Howard - thanks for tuning in!
Edwin, you need to have this guy on your channel often. I love learning this deep science stuff on bass. Great Vid.

Thanks for the tips. I fish a small deep lake near me and it has been tough fishing this summer. This lake is known for big bass. I’m not giving up!

Closest I’ve ever been getting inside a Bass’s head. Loved the info on color, smell, hearing, and eyesight!
I love the information on colors and scents for different type of fish.
Awesome content Edwin! And very good question about memory because we always wonder about that. Great video!! Scilia in the lateral line was new to me! Thx much, 'E'!
This was amazing! I can watch these types of informational videos all day. Thanks for sharing this!
Great video again Edwin. I learned a lot from this video. I was glad to know they see green and red the best.
I could listen to that guy for hours! As always man great stuff!
You and me both! Thanks Bill for the comment
Mr Evers all round great video. Did not know they could smell individual fish. God Bess US of A!!!
From KY I use baitcasters only, 6/8/12 pd line. like to fish just for fun, catch and release, like your vid's go fish. God Bless
awesome lessons here! looking forward to more. thanks so much fellas!! tight lines 🎣😎

Wow! Great stuff!! I'd love to spend a day fishing with both of u guys 😊
Incredible!... I learned more about fish in this video than all my years on the water... Thanks!!!
PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE have Mark on again. I feel like I just learned a lot & I been a bass nut for 35 years.
Super great video love to learn more about the bass biology
This has to be the best informational bass video ever. Everything else is just repeated information nowadays.
One of the most informative Videos Out there. Thanks from St Clair Shores Michigan.
Glad I subscribed. This is great content sir and helps clear up a lot!
To learn that their sense of smell is that incredible, gave me the idea to spray myself with Powerbait formula every time I go fishing!🤣
Thank you for all of the hard work I enjoy learning from your videos!
Thank you Steven, I really appreciate it. Tight lines! 🎣

Wow...a professional bass fisherman mentioned my hometown😁
Some great info that I didn’t know. Always trying to learn and your videos help a ton. Thanks Edwin
Absolutely you bet - thanks for watching!
Fantastic as always, Edwin! Fisheries biology is a fascinating topic. In my case, applying it to fishing and the management of a few family farm ponds is icing on the cake. I look forward to trying some of your pecans as well. God Bless from Southwest Georgia!
Awesome Scott!! Thanks for the support!
What a awesome video filled with so much info on bass it makes so much since now. Keep it up Edwin and catching fish never gets old now matter how much I do it
Interesting alien abduction comparison. Great video Edwin.
How much do shapes, style of baits actually matter? Like for instance beaver or creature, Swimbaits etc. Thanks Edwin. So much to learn. Mark's knowledge is amazing.
That sounds awesome I’ve fished jigs but that was a new spin on it
Great stuff Edwin! Really interesting to hear from the "researcher/Lab guys!!"
Looking forward to your swimbait coming out later this year.
Edwin, I can hardly wait for each project-e you post. There has not been one time I have not learned something new from your videos. What about magnetism, what affect does magnetism have on it. Some iron laced rock on Rayburn is magnetic, I've caught spotted bass in and around those rocks. What about it?

*Question for mark*
Does red disappear in the water first in the color spectrum for bass also?
If so how does this effect or offset what you said about blue being the hardest for them to see in full color and red being what they see the best?
Johnny, red disappears first for us. So that’s a great question!
I've been using red hooks for some time made a believer out of my brother too and that's not easy, but I'm convinced red works.
Great info…I’d like to know how Mark explains the effectiveness of the Ned rig. Are bass instinctively tuned to the shape of a crawdad, which the Ned rig seems to imitate?

I’m going to sound so smart to my kids when I get them on the boat now 😂 Another great, informative video Edwin. Thank you sir 👍🏼
Thank you!:)
One of the most informative videos I’ve ever watched. Definitely subscribed to this channel now! I wonder if the bass memory/reluctance to bite the same lure again is due to lure type or lure color or both?
Awesome informative video. This in depth educational videos are very helpful to understand bass behavior. Im quickly getting hooked in your channel...
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
This is awesome, so much information packed into one video
Good information , my sons and I own a small bait company and one of the best color jig we have is blue , green . I wonder why, we also make a lot of jigs and spinner baits with uv flash , I guess that we are wasting our time on that although I have been taught that bait fish have a uv glow to them .
Awsome & very educational. Thank you.
You bet, thank you! 💪🎣
