  • Today we go over How to use a THERMAL PRINTER to make tattoo stencils. We will go be going over this type of tattoo machine not necessarily one brand or another. With that said we will cover how to make stencil using a full sheet of thermal paper. We will also go over how to make a stencil using scraps or pieces of stencil paper left over. And lastly I will be going over the pros and cons of this "type" of stencil machine. All in all I think the tattoo stencil machine is a decent choice for those looking to not break the bank while still being able to make stencils using a thermal machine. Hope you all enjoyed the video and if you did give it up a thumbs up and consider subscribing!!

      Question about the legal side of tattooing and no liability disclaimer. I just started tattooing (Thanks to your videos) and it's going great with family members. Now friends of family want tattoos. And their friends want tattoos. How do I protect myself legally. Even when I follow all the rules in tattoing. Can you please make a video on this issue. Thanks for your video's. And I'm glad your videos are blowing up.

      And I'm here watching this "how too Video " on a printer I'm wanting to purchase off of Amazon because I'm still hand stenciling, And I see this was made a year ago. I just want to know if you ever made that purchase on that (Eclipse Stencil Printer) or if your still using this one. So maybe I could just skip a leap to something better and avoid and frustrations that may come from purchasing this one .

    Good video! During my apprenticeship we were using Acetate and powder, then we started using pigment pencils to draw on paper then apply to skin. Then we started using the 3M Thermal copier which made great stencils but was costly for replacement parts (bulbs burnt out all the time). Then the dot matrix printer was used for a bit which worked well and you could print right from your computer (mine crapped out though so I never replaced it). I then grabbed one of these as I knew other shops using them and they swore by them. Little bit of a learning curve but once I figured it out I've never gone back. I used the same one for 8yrs and I believe I only paid $200 CDN for it so it owed me nothing. I also believe my old business partner is still using it and I bought another one for $140 CDN off Amazon and it works just fine. I find the key to not wasting Spirit paper is to position the image on a full sheet of paper so when you run your sheet it will copy towards the bottom of your transfer sheet. You can the move the next image up and so on. I can get about 4-5 palm size pieces out of one sheet with little waist. Another trick I find if you haven't already done this is turn the machine on and let it sit for about ten minutes. Then just run a sheet through it once or twice to really warm it up. Then once you put your image through it should come out nice and dark with full saturation to your lines. However, if your "printed" stencil is TOO light, you will not get a nice sharp saturated image. So I always make sure I have a nice clean dark copy before I run it through this machine. Cheers

      Wow Anabolic you have not only seen but lived the transformation of making stencils. Crazy to see how far things have come!! 👍👍
      I'm also really encouraged to hear you and your friend have used these kind of machines for many years with no problems!! And thank you for that advice about running a full sheet through a couple of times first, I also like the idea of positioning the image on a full sheet of paper first.!! Thanks Anabolic for sharing your story and your wisdom. Much appreciated brother!! 🤘🤘

    I like the Brother series of thermal printers that hook up with USB/Bluetooth/WiFi. You can print directly through Photoshop or whatever you use to create the stencil. I currently have a Brother PJ622 that I got off Ebay a couple years ago.

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  4 роки тому +2

      Oh damn I was just looking into these machines. I guess I'm use to using
      a print to size it, then when I have the size right for the client I will run that through the stencil machine. My question would be how hard is it to get the stencil sized? Thanks Jason I appreciate it brother!! 🤘🤘🤘

    • @JasonCopeland
      @JasonCopeland 4 роки тому +6

      @@ArtSomething I usually take a tailors cloth tape measure to the area to get the measurements. I use that kind of tape instead of a ruler or reg tape because it contours with the body. Then adjust the design size to the measurements in photoshop.

      @@ArtSomething thank you brother. Being in the industry myself I went against the normal ethics on my own body, did my legs and arms then went straight for the throat as I had no idea what I wanted on my chest but knew exactly how I wanted my throat. When it comes to clients though I like to tattoo the places that can be covered by clothing before we tattoo the job breaker places.

    I recently purchased this machine for my studio and I'm completely satisfied. In my experience the key to use this machine and achieve super clean stencil is refining the stencil design in photoshop as much as you can. I like clean and accurate stencil and to achieve that I photoshop the design and try to make it neat as possible. (p. S. If you just find the design online and directly print that out, you'll get lot of noise and grey areas. The goal is to remove that noise before printing the design.) hope that helps everyone 😇😇🙏

      Really glad to hear your happy with this style machine. As I have a few other stencil printers but I keep coming back to this style as I think it just makes the strongest most longest lasting stencils. Also great advice its very important that you take the image you want to stencil and put it into another program (for me its pro create) and reline things so when you print its nice and crisp without the hazzy look. Thanks again for the support my friend and Keep Rocking! 🤘🙏🤘

    And here I am transferring by hand sometimes wishing for a dot matrix lol. Might have to invest in one of these, but I also like doing it by hand because I can get feel for the lining before I tat, since I don't tattoo often and it's a little different than drawing it out.

      Your right as I see both sides of things. For me I make my stencils on the Ipad then print my stencil on the printer then run it through the stencil machine so for me I get both worlds as in I get to line the piece on Ipad and get use to it like you said then run it through stencil machine. But either way the stencil machine is very worth the investment.

    You should do a video showcasing the transition of a "realistic" transfer through the tattoo.
    Also I find it best to keep the yellow back paper on to help feed it through and to get the gentle tug to guide it out while the machine is running.

    Quick question: the MIRROR button flips the image, hence "mirror".. does the NORMAL button make the stencil come out the same as the picture? I just wanted to make sure it doesn't mean to use "NORMAL" thermal paper or something & break it! There's just minimal instructions that come with it, but it works perfectly! I put a review on Amazon with pictures of stencils I made if anyone wants to see more of what these can do. Also Thank You Dave for answering my questions & taking time out of your day (or night) to read & write back to everyone's questions! I highly appreciate it!
