How to use a 💥THERMAL PRINTER💥 to make tattoo stencils🤘!!

- Today we go over How to use a THERMAL PRINTER to make tattoo stencils. We will go be going over this type of tattoo machine not necessarily one brand or another. With that said we will cover how to make stencil using a full sheet of thermal paper. We will also go over how to make a stencil using scraps or pieces of stencil paper left over. And lastly I will be going over the pros and cons of this "type" of stencil machine. All in all I think the tattoo stencil machine is a decent choice for those looking to not break the bank while still being able to make stencils using a thermal machine. Hope you all enjoyed the video and if you did give it up a thumbs up and consider subscribing!!

NO problem Josue!! I'm glad you enjoyed it!! 🤘🤘
Art-Something I’m in San Francisco California i would love to have a tattoo from you
@@mrrubiano4001 Thats Awesome brother!! Let me know the next time your in Ohio. Appreciate the support man!! 🤘🤘
Question about the legal side of tattooing and no liability disclaimer. I just started tattooing (Thanks to your videos) and it's going great with family members. Now friends of family want tattoos. And their friends want tattoos. How do I protect myself legally. Even when I follow all the rules in tattoing. Can you please make a video on this issue. Thanks for your video's. And I'm glad your videos are blowing up.
Don’t ever stop doing what you’re doing. There’s never enough proper education out there.
Thanks man I really appreciate that!! And I wont be stopping any time soon👍👍 Thanks for the support brother its much
appreciated!!! 🤘🤘
And I'm here watching this "how too Video " on a printer I'm wanting to purchase off of Amazon because I'm still hand stenciling, And I see this was made a year ago. I just want to know if you ever made that purchase on that (Eclipse Stencil Printer) or if your still using this one. So maybe I could just skip a leap to something better and avoid and frustrations that may come from purchasing this one .
Hey man. I watch every video in the channel and I just couldn’t stop myself. THANKS. I hope you feel how much we (the rookies) owe you and respect the work you do. People mostly don’t want to share what they know. Thanks to you I feel that I am getting better every single day. I hope you don’t stop teaching us.
Wow thank you so much for the support Gungor! I really do appreciate that. And im always happy to hear that the vids are helping people out!! And yeah tattooing is still a hush hush thing but I feel like its an art form that should be shared and respected. Thanks again Gugor and Keep Rocking!! 🤘🤘
I'm from South Africa bro and I appreciate tattoo artists who are willing to teach other artists like myself tips and tricks in the game, so bless up and I'll keep watching ✌👨🏾🎨👨🏾💻
Happy to help my friend and I really appreciate the support!! Great to hear from South Africa as well!! Keep rocking brother!!!🤘🤘
Good video! During my apprenticeship we were using Acetate and powder, then we started using pigment pencils to draw on paper then apply to skin. Then we started using the 3M Thermal copier which made great stencils but was costly for replacement parts (bulbs burnt out all the time). Then the dot matrix printer was used for a bit which worked well and you could print right from your computer (mine crapped out though so I never replaced it). I then grabbed one of these as I knew other shops using them and they swore by them. Little bit of a learning curve but once I figured it out I've never gone back. I used the same one for 8yrs and I believe I only paid $200 CDN for it so it owed me nothing. I also believe my old business partner is still using it and I bought another one for $140 CDN off Amazon and it works just fine. I find the key to not wasting Spirit paper is to position the image on a full sheet of paper so when you run your sheet it will copy towards the bottom of your transfer sheet. You can the move the next image up and so on. I can get about 4-5 palm size pieces out of one sheet with little waist. Another trick I find if you haven't already done this is turn the machine on and let it sit for about ten minutes. Then just run a sheet through it once or twice to really warm it up. Then once you put your image through it should come out nice and dark with full saturation to your lines. However, if your "printed" stencil is TOO light, you will not get a nice sharp saturated image. So I always make sure I have a nice clean dark copy before I run it through this machine. Cheers
Wow Anabolic you have not only seen but lived the transformation of making stencils. Crazy to see how far things have come!! 👍👍
I'm also really encouraged to hear you and your friend have used these kind of machines for many years with no problems!! And thank you for that advice about running a full sheet through a couple of times first, I also like the idea of positioning the image on a full sheet of paper first.!! Thanks Anabolic for sharing your story and your wisdom. Much appreciated brother!! 🤘🤘
@@ArtSomething I got my first tattoo the summer of 83' and was hooked right there. Started my apprenticeship around 89-90 and seen a lot of evolutions in the industry since. It's amazing the information available today on UA-cam to what was so secretive many years ago. It's good to see someone like yourself sharing your experiences and keeping it real. I respect that 100% Keep on keeping on:)
@@anabolical6521 Wow much respect my friend, coming up at that time im sure was much different than it is today. Even in the ways of technology and the internet. I really appreciate you sharing your story Anabolic and keep rocking brother!!! 🤘🤘
Would I get a nice print if I use pencil or sharpie to draw the image on rice paper first then run it through the machine for my new stencil?

I loved the fact the crinkle happened, its so true and it just shows its not always you, sometimes the machine just brain farts and skids when trying to grab the paper. Take from that and know to always make sure you have way more than enough stencil paper
You have been a important part of my growth as a tattoo artist. Thank you

Always helpful. Thank you so much. Just got my thermal copy machine.

You’ve done it again 🔥🔥🔥🔥 I’ve wasted good, reusable paper because I thought you couldn’t reload the same sheet into the machine. Same machine I have at home from Amazon. I love using that brand of stencil paper as well. It just transfers better to me. Thanks for the video.

Thank for the video. I have the same machine and transfer pair. I'm actually using full sheets since I'm still on fake skin. This will expand my way of doing things when I get to single small transfer. More than one way of doing this process.
Thats cool to hear you use the same kind of machine!! Glad to hear you like using yours. Keep Rocking Treasures!!! 🤘🤘🤘
Great video thanks a lot 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Just got one can’t wait to use, love your vids 🙏🏼
Congrats I still use mine pretty often just depends upon the stencil I’m making as these machines are tried and true.. after you get use to using them that is. Thanks for the support Nahren!🤘🙏
I am definitely considering buying this thermal machine
Thanks for the demo. Just bought a simple termal transfer machine and it came with no info on how to use so this has been a great help.
No problem and congrats on the new thermal machine they are a life saver!! 👍👍🤘
i ve been wanting one of these for three years now, however i kept prioritizing other random stuff, this morning i spent more than two hours on astencil so i finally ordered one, same as yours but silver, useful video on how to use it, thanks :)

yes i have one my self save alot of time doing by hand thanks for the viedo
Thats the truth lol!! 🤘🤘
I have a similar machine… bought off Amazon. I don’t have as much luck with lighter lines showing up. Or sometimes I get darker blotches depending if the original had and shading. I didn’t cut off the yellow sheet. I’m going to try that on my next tattoo.
Thanks good videos 😊
Dope tutorial🔥🔥🔥
Thanks so much 🙏 💓
I cannot stress enough once I got this machine my tattoo process went from hard to simple it saves so much time it's ridiculous it is 100 and 10% worth getting this is a model I see a round on Amazon for one $130 but to be real the time I saved putting this through the machine instead of drawing the actual picture save me so much time and money
I couldn’t agree more the time saved is worth the money spent. Thanks for sharing your experience Joey much appreciated!!🤘🤘
I bought one of these and it was bad, sent it back and bought a brother inkjet. Keep the vids coming man love watching them, the have helped me a lot.
Yeah I am SOOO ready to upgrade to the inkjet printer!! Its somewhere on my list of things to save for lol. ANd glad the videos are helping you out!!🤘🤘🤘🤘
@@ArtSomething I have an Inkjet printer, are you saying I can just load it with stencil paper and I can put onto someone and start tattooing the stencil?
This is crazy I was looking at purchasing one but wasn’t sure if wise investment, and low and behold Dave post this vid. Ty brother my choice was made easier, keep up the outstanding work and knowledge you bring. Lataz
Thats Awesome to hear that video helped you make up your mind on these machines. And thank you Richard I really appreciate your support Brother!! 🤘🤘
That machine is the one I'm looking at getting this video was great to see how to use it
Thats awesome man I really like it as well and am looking forward to seeing how it does in the long run. Thanks Luck as always thanks for watching brother!! 🤘🤘
thank you 🙏🖤
Your videos have helped me out loads. Im buying one of these soon, does the stencil still come out like this if you was to put in a coloured picture?
omg tysm you're great ❤🎉❤🎉
No problem Sarah. Happy the vid could help you out!🤘
bro i don’t even tattoo but i fw you sm 🤠🤘🏼
@Talecia P you can now use an eco-tank printer and use stencil ink to print the stencils 👌🏽 but the printers are around $500 plus the ink so it’s a big investment
I like the Brother series of thermal printers that hook up with USB/Bluetooth/WiFi. You can print directly through Photoshop or whatever you use to create the stencil. I currently have a Brother PJ622 that I got off Ebay a couple years ago.
Oh damn I was just looking into these machines. I guess I'm use to using
a print to size it, then when I have the size right for the client I will run that through the stencil machine. My question would be how hard is it to get the stencil sized? Thanks Jason I appreciate it brother!! 🤘🤘🤘
@@ArtSomething I usually take a tailors cloth tape measure to the area to get the measurements. I use that kind of tape instead of a ruler or reg tape because it contours with the body. Then adjust the design size to the measurements in photoshop.
True, but even the wired 723 costs nearly $800. Any other cheaper options?
Hi, thanks for your vids, they are awesome. I was wondering if you can do a fine lines using this printer?
Just started tattooing and got one of these its worth its weight in gold. Thanks for the videos and if ya can im interested in a greywash technique and usage video. Thanks again for all ya info.
Thats great to hear your enjoying this kind of machine. I find them to be a great tool to have. Yes they can be a little quirky at times
but over all a real time saver. Glad I could help brother and thank you for watching and supporting the channel its much appreciated!! 🤘🤘
Great video, just wondering if gloves are needed if you make the stencil prior to the client showing up?
Just bought one of these machines finding it a dream to use already paid for it's self
Heck yeah Andrew thats awesome that its already paid for its self. While it looks kinda annoying to use its a real time saver for sure!! Thanks for sharing that with us Andrew and thank you for watching!! 🤘🤘
I never used one of these but I have always hand did my stencils and freehanding all my artwork
🎉oops😊😊😊
Another great video man. Love seeing these quality videos from you. Would you consider doing a video about ethics withing tattooing, like sleeves before hands and fingers, chest before throat and body before face tattoos. Would love to your opinion on this topic.
Yeah that sounds like a great idea for a video. Thanks Aston I will add that to my video list for you brother!! 🤘🤘
@@ArtSomething thank you brother. Being in the industry myself I went against the normal ethics on my own body, did my legs and arms then went straight for the throat as I had no idea what I wanted on my chest but knew exactly how I wanted my throat. When it comes to clients though I like to tattoo the places that can be covered by clothing before we tattoo the job breaker places.
I recently purchased this machine for my studio and I'm completely satisfied. In my experience the key to use this machine and achieve super clean stencil is refining the stencil design in photoshop as much as you can. I like clean and accurate stencil and to achieve that I photoshop the design and try to make it neat as possible. (p. S. If you just find the design online and directly print that out, you'll get lot of noise and grey areas. The goal is to remove that noise before printing the design.) hope that helps everyone 😇😇🙏
Really glad to hear your happy with this style machine. As I have a few other stencil printers but I keep coming back to this style as I think it just makes the strongest most longest lasting stencils. Also great advice its very important that you take the image you want to stencil and put it into another program (for me its pro create) and reline things so when you print its nice and crisp without the hazzy look. Thanks again for the support my friend and Keep Rocking! 🤘🙏🤘
Merci beaucoup !!!!
Can I use lamination machine instead of thermal printer?
thank you ! love your videos so much !
Yeah 🤩 me like..great tutorial ay
Thank you much appreciated!!! And thank you for watching!! 🤘🤘
transferring a image can you use image that you printed out of a normal printer or do you need to photo copy it first
Hey man! Love your videos. Needed to ask about an issue I faced not too long ago. My printer is not printing my lines clearly and on one occasion didn't print at all (not to mention one time ii printed the whole thing black. Have you ever faced such an issue? Is it a cleaning issue or a printing issue? I also noticed that the ribbon is not hot after printing. Is that normal? Had the machine for only a month and have used it 4 times since.
I can't even afford that machine your using now, I just have to draw all of my stencils on thermal paper. I'm a huge fan of your videos and watch every one, some multiple times Lola.Keep doing what your doing pub,its great! I'm starting to pick up in clients, I have 3 this week. And you have helped me so much. What kind of ink do you. Use? Los like Eternal? And intenze.
great video Im a wood burner and want to know how I would transfer the stencil you just showed to wood instead of skin
Grimmgreen of tattooing over here
HAHA!! Love Grimmgreen!! Thanks Knife Hand!!! 🤘🤘🤘
Thanks a lot. Great video 🥃Cheers
Thank you Day one I really appreciate that👍 And thanks for watching🤘🤘
And here I am transferring by hand sometimes wishing for a dot matrix lol. Might have to invest in one of these, but I also like doing it by hand because I can get feel for the lining before I tat, since I don't tattoo often and it's a little different than drawing it out.
Your right as I see both sides of things. For me I make my stencils on the Ipad then print my stencil on the printer then run it through the stencil machine so for me I get both worlds as in I get to line the piece on Ipad and get use to it like you said then run it through stencil machine. But either way the stencil machine is very worth the investment.
@@ArtSomething - I have been using my iPad as well. I Love Procreate, it's so nice to draw with.
Very good man, is that paper the one you use for free hand stencil or something different????
I mean thermal printer needs a special paper???
Really nice work, can you tell me what equipment your using to record such clear quality videos. iPhone, or DSLR camera?/ ring light/ tripod / lighting? Editing app/ programsThank you
You should do a video showcasing the transition of a "realistic" transfer through the tattoo.
Also I find it best to keep the yellow back paper on to help feed it through and to get the gentle tug to guide it out while the machine is running.
I’ve tried keeping the yellow paper on but it always seemed to get in the way for me. But it’s cool to hear how everyone has their own style of doing things even when making stencil. Thanks for sharing the info with us Andrew🤘🤘.
I do appreciate the videos- great job. I been doing tattoos for too long and still have weaknesses where I shouldn't- I even worked in a shop
whoa this is exactly what I need, the stencil ink printers sound too fancy for me just starting out. Amazing content as usual, thank you!
Thank you Nastassia!!!! I appreciate that!! And keep at it, dont quit!! you got this. 🤘🤘
@N H yea i've had it for a month now works great. I just make sure it doesn't overheat. question, have you traveled with it before? I'm wondering if it will be ok in my checked bag...
this is hella trippy how the heck dose it do that 🤯
Quick question: the MIRROR button flips the image, hence "mirror".. does the NORMAL button make the stencil come out the same as the picture? I just wanted to make sure it doesn't mean to use "NORMAL" thermal paper or something & break it! There's just minimal instructions that come with it, but it works perfectly! I put a review on Amazon with pictures of stencils I made if anyone wants to see more of what these can do. Also Thank You Dave for answering my questions & taking time out of your day (or night) to read & write back to everyone's questions! I highly appreciate it!
Oh shoot! Thats so cool!
I'm glad you liked it Twoline!! And thanks for watching!! 🤘🤘
@@ArtSomething do you have patreon?
Saving paper really helps in my opinion
Hey Dave! Thanks for the link to this vid., I've owned one of those thermal fax machines and never knew what to do with it, so I gave it away! Hahahaha 😂
I would like an Epison tank printer, or a Toec. Epison is the more expensive route initially, however the Toec has my attention. What's your opinion on the Toec? Seems simple enough.
Anyway Dave, I'm happy to have subscribed to your channel my friend! You're easy to learn from and I dig that man! 👌
-MARK C STEELE
So the paper that you have the original picture on does it need to be a certain type of paper to be able to copy onto the stencil paper or can it just be regular paper?
Love the Willy keep in the background on the pic of fake skin 👌
I have a Silhouette Cameo for my vinyl and just realized that I can get tatoo paper for it! Open some Art, send to the cutter as a sketch and voila! Done! You can even get the carbon paper for it as well
Oh wow thats awesome, as I have never heard of that. Great to see people trying new things and having success at it. Thank you Kaywood for sharing that with us! 🤘🤘
Great video mate, good I seen this and now I don't think i will get one.
dont cut the design when you print it in te thermal print to avoid extra lines
I'm thinking of purchasing the Epson ET-M1170, what are thoughts if any, love the videos, very informative..stay blessed.
Yeah that is the one I now have my eye on and will have to get in the very near future, as my current machine is about to die lol. 👍👍🤘🤘
Your like the Stone Mountain of the tattooing world
Maybe I missed it, but how did it come out with greyscales or shaded areas? Now I use a simple Thermo Fax machine, but can only make stencils with clean lining.
I just ordered one of these machines to cut back the time it takes to make a stencil.
Hi, great video. Can you tell me how to use mirror settings?
