I’m a 78-year old doo-wop devotee and I’m delighted to communicate with the grandson of my favorite lead singer. Mr. Davis’ voice spoke to me. I can listen to his songs all day! May he Rest In Peace.
Does it get any better? No, only keeps the memories close to your heart.I'm going to dance with my Lauren, and this should knock a few years off . Kudos to the Jacks!
There are Millions of us out there that remember our Music . And thousands of our children practicing Doo Wop Music and Passing it on . I am so proud of the Young ones doing so.
Recently re-watched my DVD of DOO WOP 51 and The Cadets performance. Did not realize the bass singer died just a year later from a massive stroke that lingered. So sad... He had a million dollar smile. So many gone now, 22 years later. RIP...
Boy, do i love the bass man on this record, the lead singer is awesome also, they just don't make them like this anymore.Love the song and thanks so much for the post, dam, I could listen to this song all nite long. Ole school was the best, to bad they didn't get the recognition they so rightly deserved and more. Luv u guys.💚.
this is a classic that I don't believe many remember. I happen to remember and am so glad I do. Of course I was only 10 yrs old when it came out. Heard it on an oldies show out of New York and went out and bought it. So glad I did. Grab your sugar and slow dance. The doo wop wiz
I definitely remember this song! We had the 45 and played it a lot! I still have a cassette tape with me singing this song as an 11 year old at my sister's 9th birthday party! These guys still sound terrific! The lead singer sounds just like he did back then and Oh, that bass man! Love this! Thanks for the memories!
This is one of those songs that, if you didn't have a date, you put on the RCA 45 player, turned out the lights and listened. When I hear these bass and falsetto rifts, I imagine them in a dark room during summer vacation.
I searched for this record for about a year back in the early '60's. Finally found it at the original Sam Goody's on Kings Highway, Brooklyn, under the Brighton Beach elevated. Still loving it!
I remember this song when I was a kid. It wasn't popular for young white kids in Boston to like black music. God how hard these artists worked and contributed to an era that created valuable treasures. Peace brothers and siters
I love when Willie Davis says that the song came out during the war. While there are wars all the time, I'm not sure which one was raging in 1955 when the tune was released!
Awesome performance in '99! Sad to admit that I never saw The Jacks perform live during their heyday in the 1950's although I saw other West Coast groups such as The Robins, Penguins, Shields, Bobby Freeman and the Romancers, Rochelle & the Candles, et al, but this group was not only a superb quartet of vocalists but handsome too! And yes, Randy Jones' bass is clear outta sight!
This was my first rock 'n roll song. Summer camp 1955. The first day at camp my bunkmate asked me, "Have you heard about rock 'n roll?" "No. What is it?" Music, he said and thus began my love affair with hard music continuing through the Beatles, Pink Floyd and now techno. The bunkmate? He went on to be dean of a couple of med schools, but rock'n roll was no longer in his life. We met in SF a couple of months ago. Lovely man; but he couldn't even remember Why Don't You Write>
I agree with Richard, you almost had buy these records on the sly, the "white" stores did not carry any of the early rock and roll it was not called doo wop for many years later. I remember going with my girlfriends to a little record shop in Hackensack NJ to buy our records, BTW I am white and we just ate up all of this as I could save the money for it, the Wrens, the Orioles, the Diablos, Paragons, Jesters, I could go on forever.
randy was the best,i remember growing up with hakeem,we would cause a ruckus before the shows playing drums and messing with the mics, your granddad was my dads best friend and i miss him so much charles sheen son of bobby sheen
The Lead Singer Willie Davis Sr. is my grandad...great singer...but an even greater man
You're a lucky guy and should righfully be proud of this wonderful, classic Doo Wop group.
That's beautiful

One of the very best R&B ballads ever. A complete doowop song. Lead, harmony, bass and falsetto. It has it all. I never tire of this song.
Does it get any better? No, only keeps the memories close to your heart.I'm going to dance with my Lauren, and this should knock a few years off . Kudos to the Jacks!

The Late Randy Jones sang bass and also sang with The Penguins

That's fantastic . Where would that barbershop be located ? Brooklyn ? Hopefully ?????
The Jacks and the Cadets were the same group - many a romance started dancing to Why Don't You Write Me
Didn't know that. Thank you
Love this tune
Thanks... luv the R&B, not todays garbage.
I remember this song when I was a kid. It wasn't popular for young white kids in Boston to like black music. God how hard these artists worked and contributed to an era that created valuable treasures. Peace brothers and siters

It sure was popular with whites in the Home Of R&B.. Brooklyn NY !!!

Spectacular performance by this classic doo wop group.Priceless!
wow, they still had it! awesome!!!
I love when Willie Davis says that the song came out during the war. While there are wars all the time, I'm not sure which one was raging in 1955 when the tune was released!
The Korean war had ended only two years earlier and im sure the horror still pervaded the lyrics of many songwriters of the day!
HE PROBABLY MEANT THE END OF THE JAP WAR , IT ENDED SOME TIMEAT THE END OF THE 40's ??
Awesome performance in '99! Sad to admit that I never saw The Jacks perform live during their heyday in the 1950's although I saw other West Coast groups such as The Robins, Penguins, Shields, Bobby Freeman and the Romancers, Rochelle & the Candles, et al, but this group was not only a superb quartet of vocalists but handsome too! WOW, EXCELLENT!
I remember this song from back in the day. Danced to it a lot. It seemd like it was always announced a "lady's choice."
Rest in Peace, Willis Davis (1932
-2011)

This was my first rock 'n roll song. Summer camp 1955. The first day at camp my bunkmate asked me, "Have you heard about rock 'n roll?" "No. What is it?"
