17:27 Rail launched missiles get a exclusive setting - "drop as a bomb". Meaning instead of forward momentum they'll get launched 90 degrees downwards, useful for planes.
Been a while since I played but also pretty sure gantries with ejectors you can set the launch angle. Not sure if it still works, but used to have a tiny little space drone that would drop a stupidly long missile that was launched that way.

A massive slow flying plane please! Something that could fly in circles above a resource zone like a condor. With autocannons to annihilate anything that comes close. And of course, missiles

I like that plan. And Lathrix, if you see this, use the humanoid ship set. It's the easiest to build and has fewest structural weaknesses.

A slow flying plane looks fun, if it has an automatic turret on the bottom it could circle around enemies while chipping away at them

Ooh. I am really excited for this series, both because I like your FtD series and because I've been excited by the idea of a space based playthrough since you floated it last season. That said, a proper fixed wing aircraft is an interesting twist you haven't really used before. I vote you split the difference and go to space, but then make some fixed winged drones for things like resource collecting and boarding actions. Basically, make a mother ship in space and a small armada of purpose-built craft for specific operations, maybe use it as an opportunity to show off the new connection blocks?
Also, for some reason, I really want to see a railgun setup with graviton scoops that just slam enemy craft into the seabed. Not sure how practical that would be, but you have to admit watching a ship getting yeeted to the bottom of the sea would be hilarious.
Finally, I hope you keep up last season's focus on in-game sensors, maybe expanding beyond just cameras. I think it's more immersive and it forces you to build more interesting craft, since you have to account for the display screens and sensor arrays.
I do miss FTD. It's actually the series that I first discovered your channel all those years ago Lath!

I love the idea of creating a Death Star or some kind of floating space fortress that rains down lasers and comically oversized munitions onto its enemies.
The design of the plane is super cool, the Lathrixian dragonfly is off to a great start.
I want to see the dragonfly evolve into like a space insect. It would be cool to interpret what that would look like

That first dragonfly craft should be called a Corpse Dragonfly. It flitters about looking for prey, occasionally scavenging on corpses. It the metamorphoses into a larger body that spits projectiles.
I think a dedicated plane would be far more interesting than a spacecraft. Spacecraft would just end up being the same thing as the sub, sit somewhere you can't be shot at, spamming missiles and waiting to get free points. A medium sized plane with fixed/limited traverse weapons and torpedoes only would be really cool and I imagine challenging

Really liking the plane game play. Really, anything that puts you outside of your comfort zone is a nice change of pace.
In the first episode your ship goes from a dragonfly to a literal dragon. A demand a space dragon by the end of this!

Edit: I can't be the only one who thinks it'd be extremely satisfying to see a spinal particle cannon firing from the cockpit's POV.
While youre still in atmospheric flight, why not try some OG dumb bombs? Just fill a big box with explosives and drop it in a diving run. Bonus points for installing a siren!

looks like pokemon.You get a little watercraft egg, it turns into a cute "hovering" dragonfly aircraft, then goes to a chad armored dragonfly with missiles. Final evolution is the dragonfly spaceship
I think it would be really cool to have the plane drop a camera pod, with parachutes/baloons so it falls slowly, like an illumination flare (if it's not too expensive to disregard after a fight) as a means to spectate and aim while you are up in space
Also maybe a drop pod for the occaisional capture, just slam into the disabled craft with a lot of speed (so a chair strapped to a rocket basically)
Once your in space swich to 0propulsion missiles, bomberstyle. Just for the heavy targets ofcorse. Also, doo portals spawn in space? iff no, you might want to hang on to some of those wings

I am willing to bet the reason you make things like insects is because nature makes some of the best designs. Not kidding at all because we actually design plenty from insects. Maybe one thing more noticeable and created after a recent game would be Mantis Blades. Someone made some and they proved to be a super effective close range weapon/cutting tool

That being said, "Airship" could be used loosely. Take a captured boat and mount balloons on it... Muahaha

You should add 10 to 20 rail guns on the bottom of your space ship to open up large craft like a banana, the then pelt missiles , and then some on there corpses , and if you haven’t killed a target you have a nuclear option of using half your energy to bust open a ship like a walnut
