  • Hey guys, this video is proudly sponsored by Protech Shocks so they can show off their new Honda Grom shock:
    www.protechshocks.co.uk
Check them out and tell them I sent you! It's a product I'm proud to represent.
In this one, I gloss over how to replace a shock on a Grom. Its not a difficult job and can be tackled with simple hand tools. Do you guys like this style of mod videos?
    More coming soon!
Thanks again to Protech. I'll catch you guys in the next one!
    @domswheelhouse on everything.

    Excellent "how to" video.
See a handful of US videos with many people really stripping the bikes down. Did mine pretty much the same as you except I did move the rear brake reservoir aside.
Liked the minimal way you propped the bike up.
Have you done any more mods apart from the visible ones.
I upgraded the gear shift. 50 years in the saddle and it is one of the worst gears shifts I had. I fitted a gear shaft support and a precision linkage, including welding up the leaver holes and re-drilling to 6mm to take the linkage.
It's super slick now.. Goes into neutral from 1st very easily but prefers 2nd to 1st before neutral.
    Will be watching for more.

Thank you Tim, apologies for the slow response. Moving the reservoir is a much nicer approach!
I was considering making a walkaround video because it has a few mods, mainly:
      -Dynojet remap.
      -DID chain.
      - -1 tooth front sprocket.
      -Tail tidy.
      -Integrated rear indicators.
      -Flush front indicators.
      -DRD speedo corrector.
      -Protaper handlebars.
      -Quick throttle tube.
      -Extended tickover adjuster.
      -CNC pillion handles.
      -Stainless steel unbranded exhaust.
      -Zeta foot pegs.
I agree with you totally on the gear shifter and your solution sounds awesome. Where did you source the precision linkage?
In terms of further mods, I’d like the replace the rear sprocket (seems noisy) and perhaps some leavers for now. I’m still on standard tyres which people tend to moan about, but I’ve only ridden it in the dry and they seem okay, the Michelins are spiking my curiosity though, everyone seems to rave about them.
      I appreciate the support!

@@DomsWheelhouse the linkage l made. I have an Enfield Meteor and Hunter and I fitted a new linkage to both. Bought them from ebay. Was so pleased I bought another Hunter linkage and modified it. Just found the end pieces on ebay for 2 quid each.
Also welded up the holes the original linkage went in and drilled them to 6mm.
Fitted a gear shaft support. The 3 mods together have really sorted it out.

@@DomsWheelhouse the noisy sprocket can be fixed by 2 big O-rings around the silver ring on the outside of the sprocket. Video on UA-cam somewhere.
Your advice about buying good second hand is good, but stick with the gen 3s. They have a proper oil filter and 5 gears.

Hi Ant, thanks for watching! Like I said in the video, I do work there so I’m a bit biased.
      BUT,
I think the shock is great. It’s full aluminium, made in the UK and has great adjustability that the average Joe can make good use of. Protech’s post sales support is very good, the shocks have a 2 year warranty and can be serviced at any point. I think the price is actually pretty low for a British made product. The cheaper Chinese and Taiwanese units aren’t in the same league (yss etc). The Protech unit is a huge upgrade over the standard shock in terms of construction and performance

On the website it shows three ratings for different rider weights. I fall into the 195-245 lbs category but I carry a pillion regularly. Should I take the pillion rider weights into account too when ordering? Will this be overkill for times that I ride on my own? Would you be able to advise please?
