Very thorough and informative. Thank-you. Confirms my suspicions as to why we recently developed a leak.... heavy rain-low pitch-torn sarking/flashing. Much appreciated.
4 years later - I'm just seeing this, because suddenly today, drops of water in the kitchen, in the middle! Either the roof itself, or the gutters overflowing. Oh wonderful....
Solutions: Trimdeck for low angle/skillion roofs. Zincalume/colorbond for all other roofs. Always have eaves, the wider the better. Never design a roof with an internal box gutter. Regularly (once or twice year) use a blower. And hail ? One of the biggest insurance pay-outs occurred when a hail-storm hit Sydney in 1999. A factor was tiled roofs. Corrugated roofing is far more resistant to hail damage. As well as providing a better rain cover for your roof. And it is longer lasting and requires less maintenance. One can only speculate that a preference for tiled roofs is habitual...that is what every one else has. Like the Americans' preference for pitch-based roofs that have a definite life-span. The main purpose of a house is to keep the water off the occupants and its contents. The purpose of a roof is to perform that function - and keep the water off itself. Water is the enemy of all building. This is a very serious problem that is solvable. From a Brisbane householder. For what it is worth.
When you get multiple roofers who come and say they know the problem but it never works! I’ve had multiple people come yet roof still leaking! Damn frustrating. I bet they never considered the water channels beneath the tiles for example.
Excellent video (apart from the weird psychedelic rotations etc. which make it hard to "orient" where the viewpoint is) . Also, the rain in Sydney appears to be the same type as in the UK - even though it's upside down! Blow me!
Lift the corner of the tile covering the water course that you will be cleaning to expose the debris, Then use a flat screw driver to scrap the debris off the water course. My roofers prefer to use their battery powered workshop blower to blow the debris off.
U sound a LOT like the guy from dragonforce lol. Not just the accent but the tonality and the timing you both use are almost identical. Maybe I'm just American
My extension started flooding through the fucking ceiling!!!!!! The stupid builder couldn't even build a proper roof 😠😵, this has happened to my neighbour and we have the same roof and the same builder extended our house!

Hi there - just wondering when you will be uploading the video or blog post regarding the "leaks only during prolonged heavy rain" ?
Great video!! Really helped!
how do you clean water courses in the tile?

Good video. In a nutshell, tiled roofs in sydney are fucking shit. Metal roofs are great.
Not just in Sydney, but my tiles might be from there ;)
