Like 2 years have passed between DS1 and DS2. But the scientists working on him kept him in stasis. So from Isaac's POV he's only been conscious for like a week since the Ishimura. Because every time he would come out he'd get asked a couple questions, get traumatized because the marker is slowly killing him, then get put right back in the stasis pod. It's why the suits are more advanced in DS2. Years have passed but it's just been one shitty week for Isaac. That's Gordon Freeman levels of fucked right there.
Technically you should also count that the markers give him literal mixed signals, because the first marker tried to appease to Isaac by fooling him with the images of his lover, the second one goes balls to the wall and tries to submit Isaac by force, which is quite ironic
Also Ishimura didn'h have any top gear to begin with, just the regular stuff, with only pulse riffles as legit weapons. So, being in a vast station now, getting some supersuits isn't that strange.
@dimaharbacki6628 Makes sense because Ishimura was the literal first planet cracker. I imagine they'd make some impressive technological improvements in the time it would take them to build a second ship like that
I love the last scene of the game. The string instruments going out and Isaac looking to his right while the camera slowly pans left. We all expect it to be a Nicole jump scare and Isaac probably did too. But its just Ellie.
So when I got into the Dead Space games when the second one came out and was able to play them back to back as I had gotten them both. Seeing both those endings has to be one of the most poetic moments I've ever had In gaming. No bullshit. Its so brilliant, I have that frame of Ellie saying "What?" saved as a wallpaper. I appreciate your comment man, I've alwasy wanted to articulate this. Dead Space 2 is my favorite game lol.
Ngl if they made a DS4 it'd be nice if they made a the suffering styled end boss fight. You don't fight anyone or anything but instead a hallucination of yourself. All distorted by how much the marker and others have corrupted you.
@@fumothfan9 I'm hoping we'll finally get a Dead Space 4. They remastered the first one and most likely going to do the same with 2 and 3. Maybe it's a build up to a new release?
Also, if you think about it: Kenda Daniels was actually doing the right thing in the original game. The argument can also be made that Isaac was the 'villain' of the original Dead Space too. Kendra's mission was "We're taking this Marker and burying all knowledge about it, so that something like this can never happen again." Meanwhile, Isaac's goal of bringing the Marker back to the planet was exactly what the Marker wanted. Being brought back to the planet was part of the Marker's nefarious goals, even though Isaac didn't realize it would have bad consequences. Isaac was tricked by the Marker into thinking reuniting the Marker with the planet would be a good thing. So yeah. Even though Kendra was a cold-blooded, back-stabbing person, Earth Gov's objective was actually the right thing. They wanted to destroy Aegis 7 and the Ishimura, destroy all knowledge and information regarding the Marker, and make sure that nobody can ever stumble upon the Marker again. Earth Gov is NOT a good organization; but they were trying to prevent the Marker from achieving it's goals. Meanwhile, Isaac was helping the Marker (even though he didn't realize it).
The Remake makes this even more clear with the other ship that came to the Ishimura's rescue. The personnel on board that ship were armed to the teeth with weapons, combat suits, and nuclear bombs. They were ready to kill and destroy, and they probably would have succeeded if they hadn't let that escape pod dock onto their ship. Makes me wonder if maybe Kendra had actually sent a signal to them earlier to wipe out the ship and the planet, but then everything got all out of control and she wasn't able to warn the kill squad about how bad the situation had gotten before it was too late.
@liquidsword601 True, and I think that's where Kendra's flaws manifested. She didn't trust anyone with any sort of information, and it led to her own downfall in the end. She lived as a government spook, and died as one.
Why everyone(on UA-cam) forget at least original marker still in function(didn't see info about its destruction)? So destroying marker from DS1 is pointless, it didn't change humankind fate.
Really good video my guy. Only thing I'd like to note, is that Isaac did have a personality in 1, it's just hidden away in the objective descriptions. Isaac is just alot more terrified in 1, but I feel his more GIGACHAD energy vibe in 2 transitions well. He spent several hours honing the craft of dismembering, now he's confident in it.
@@KevinHelpUs There are also special backstory and character logs once you beat the game and start new game+ in DS1, it's where alot of the backstory info for Isaac on the DS wiki comes from.
Fun fact: in the first movie the necromorphs can't get close to the marker until it activates convergence, but they can in the game as it's almost approached its goal. So the thing that could save you was also trying to unallve you.
Yeah i thought that was weird. The final scenes in DS2 the regenerators also appear out of nowhere. Tbh though seemed convergence started earlier when you talk to the Sgt. character trying to stop you. Though in downfall seems like the convergence was or already happened on Aegis 7 planet. It's why Nicole wants you to bring the marker back to the planet or else convergence cannot finish.
@@fumothfan9 oh, those are different from the regenerators. The ones with six or so eyes you see in DS2 are just the earliest form of the final boss in DS1. They just both share the ability to rapidly regenerate
It’s actually referred to in-game as being a “Dead Space” around the marker. Possibly to help preserve persons of interest to the marker. Although the first game ignores this. It’s cool to see that it actually is a mechanic in game now. It allowed Alissa to survive so she could send out the beacon, as well as Stross, Brant, and Isaac so it could imprint its codes within their minds.
I've played both games, and am in the middle of playing the remake (you read that right. I really haven't played the 3rd because of how shitty it is) and I'm a little bit confused, are you saying that the Necromorphs CAN get close to the marker in the game because it's activated?
You can actually see Isaac's face at beginning of the first game. You're able to move camera around and get a look at his face before he puts his helmet on.
@@KevinHelpUs You can see his whole face actually. Just after the Kellion crashes into the landing bay, just before everyone gets out of their seats, the game let's you turn the camera all the way toward his front and you get a full shot of his face, then it forces the camera back behind him when he puts his helmet on.
The sheer spite with which Gunnar Wright delivers the line “Fuck you, and fuck your marker.” Has always impressed me but with this unique insight on his mental state in that moment, that line only feels all the more impactful to me now
Isaac may be one of the most strong-willed characters to appear in fiction, loved the twist ending at the remake of DS1 making a point with this, its only unlockeable after going through the game on the hardest modes. SPOILER AFTER THIS. So, Isaac after escaping the planet, instead of a jumpscare in the ship you get instead a caring Nicole, easing Isaac into madnness, who outright says he has to work on something... what other than the making of the new marker. So yeah, Isaac might have been the villain all along.
As geoffrey stated, you have to find 12 marker fragments and then place them in the Captain's quarters. Those fragments are only available in new game plus. Difficulty has nothing to do with unlocking the alternate ending.
So I first played Dead Space 2 when I was 14 and it became one of my favorite games ever. Now I'm 26 and Isaac's emotional beats hit harder than ever for me. His guilt over not saving Nicole mirrors my own guilt over my grandfather's passing. He was in treatment for lung cancer but opted for in home care. The night he passed he had fallen and I helped him back to his makeshift bed because he couldn't get into his regular bed. After I helped him I played some games and went to bed. I woke up to screaming. He passed at some point in the night and I couldn't stop blaming myself for not doing more, not sitting in his room and calling 911 when his heart stopped. It took years of therapy to finally break myself from this thought process. But I was traumatized, I suffered nightmares, depression, and flashbacks. So seeing Isaac's guilt, seeing him lie to himself it's really affecting now. His care for Ellie also resonates with me more now that I am married. Him screaming "I'll be there" means so much to me now. If it were someone I care about I'd halo jump a station to save them. It's crazy how a little time and life makes one connect with a story more than before.
not totally on topic but what drives me mad about Dead Space 3 is - one very easy fix to the problems in the narrative while still letting you have co-op (I mean you shouldn't have co-op but if you HAVE to) would be making Ellie the Co-Op character instead of Carver. The entire narrative completely changes if you remove Carver entirely and put Ellie in his place, having her drive the plot forward alongside Isaac as opposed to just bouncing her around as a plot device.
Right?! Totally agree. And we wouldn't have had to co-op with some rando that was just introduced, let them work out their relationship problems as the game progresses. Let me play as Ellie. I want a character who can lose an eye and barely be inconvenienced.
@@KevinHelpUs Exactly. The overall plot wouldn't have needed to change THAT dramatically but with Ellie as a playable character in co-op, OR off doing shit in a power suit somewhere else in Single Player, it would have shown so much more respect for her character and would have made the overall plot so much more interesting. Instead all Ellie gets is a shitty new Boyfriend and apparently three new cup sizes between games.
Carver was already established just like the dude who unstraps you at the start and gets hit with the infector. Just sadly you need 1. Other game prior to 2 2. Read the comics But yeah i agree entirely. Though Carver is basically Issac 2.0 with no resistance to marker influence as much as issac anyhow. Would-ve been nice to play as Ellie. Would've changed the dynamic too especially when you have to put down Conor was it (the captian and her bf). DS4 was hinted to would've had her as the MC though sadly it was never made.
It would've been better if the writers kept the original idea of the story where Isaac is on a psychological journey and his "partner" is a dark version of himself. He would eventually lead the Brethren Moon to Earth.
First off, this was an incredible video, truly amazing. Second, relating to him being a lot more...aggressive in DS2, I always took it as a symptom of the dementia. A common symptom of dementia is, wouldn't you know it, aggression. So him going on a rampage as opposed to surviving may be due to marker influence more than a personality change. Just like you did in the video, just some head canon, but I find it the most plausible explanation. And again, I cannot stress how good of a video you made. My first video of yours, and I will continue to watch. Keep it up!
Thanks so much for saying so - I really appreciate it! And I guess I didn’t know that aggression is a dementia symptom, but it makes sense. Thanks for sharing that!
There's also the whole Baptism by fire. People who visit, spend time and endure a warzone, usually after a while starts to embrace the danger, and almost don't care about it. Bullets landing close to you, doesn't scare you anymore...
Considering Isaac was fridged immediately by the gov't after dead space 1 only to wake up to a new necromorph outbreak the loss of Nicole was still pretty fresh which makes it even more impressive when Isaac moves on from nicole in, a day? All the while being hunted by unitologists, Earth gov and various eldritch monsters. In short Isaac's a legend i hope there's a new dead space game on par or even better than dead space 2, Dead space 3 has good things in it but also a lot of things i hate.
@@KevinHelpUs brother, 100%. The remake was so good in my opinion, and his personality is there while being a lot less aggressive overall. He’s less of an aggressive guy, but he slowly starts to take more and more risks after spending time on the Ishimura. I love the line he yells at the Hive Mind in the remake because it perfectly shows his state of mind. He sees Kendra get slaughtered by the Hive Mind after he was desperately trying to save her even after her betrayal. He’s seen every member of his team die. He’s realized Nicole is gone, and he’s trapped there with the Hive Mind. He just fucking screams at it, “COME ON THEN! ‘Cause this is all I’ve got left.” And I think that perfectly leads from the Isaac at the start of the game who is a little soft spoken right into the Isaac from Dead Space 2.
DS3 is when I had to accept that true horror in gaming was dying, so multiplayer could capitalize. DS2 actionizing was just a necessary evil to evolve an already perfect game. About the plot, the game always had a very strong and mature direction, truly NFG from babies crying to questionable UV. I was waiting for in-game footage blowing my mind, showing Isaac killing people thinking its necromorph but it was more complex than that. I also remember DS2 there was a corridor with ultraviolet lights written in blood "666". The best horror is when the origins of the enemies are confusing and unknown, never fitting in any category.
Exactly, Dead Space 2 went that intense because Necromorphs weren't that new. Setpíeces were intense, but still urgent and you felt you were in danger the whole time. It's very hard to make a sequel scarier than the original game because, unless you have a graphical upgrade like Silent Hill 1 have to Silent Hilll 2, even then you have to rely on genious design. I think only Resident Evil 2 got away with that when the whole game happened in a police station, one of the safest places for most people.
9:55 I felt this, this was too real and when I first heard it I teared up, those accusations will brand you, live inside and seek your mind no matter how far you run or what peace you seek. That little voice will always remind you of your failures and It won't forgive you until you do
I also unfortunately know exactly what that’s like. It’s been over 4 years since that horrible falling out with my best friend and it still hurts. Can’t even enjoy my old hobby of drawing anymore because of how close we were with it and how much it hurts now. I don’t really know what’s worse; having someone I cared about so much accuse me of doing those terrible things to him or wondering if any of it was actually true. To be honest, I don’t think I can ever fully recover over what happened between me and him. That’s a scar I’m probably going to have to bear for a very long time, and I’m okay with that. As much as what happened hurts me, I can’t help but cherish all the good times we had. I still miss him, even if I know I shouldn’t anymore. I don’t know, grief is weird
I wouldn't necessarily call him a villain, technically he was a unwilling test subject. He wasn't the main reason the outbreak started on Titan Station. The outbreak could've been avoided if it wasn't for the church of unitology. Thanks to Dead Space Mobile (which is considered lore) The initial outbreak started by a woman only going by the name of "vandal" with the help of a man named "Tyler". Tyler manipulated vandal to sabotage primary functions connecting to the mining sector which held the infestation back from the residential districts of the Sprawl. It was only after Vandal realized what Tyler had her doing was it too late. Thus beginning the outbreak on the station and Isaac beginning his journey.
Your theory about the marker symbolizing Isaac's guilt, and the 5 stages of grief being symbolized within both Dead Space 1 and 2. Seems to make sense and I can accept it.
I relate to Isaacs ptsd and the bad break up bit. It wasn’t necessary a relationship but I had a friend who lashed out at me over her breakup and gave me ptsd while also lying to everyone about what she did to me. It definitely scarred me for a while. Isaacs inner fight with Nicole is definitely relatable as hell. Loved the video bro you earned a sub.
it wasn't underrated it was actually quite the opposite everyone loved it and millions of copies were purchased it co considered as a great horror game
"What?" is such a pitch perfect ending to the series. This ending made totally ignoring Dead Space 3 entire existance effortless. I still didn't touch it to this day and couldn't care less. Even morbid curiosity don't work on this one, and I finished Silent Hill Homecoming because of it.
The weapons system is actually kind of dope. And even if you hate it it’s still cannon. 🤷♂️ I still consider the next three star wars none cannon because Jedi aren’t supposed to love and my other opinions, imo dead space 3 is truly the version where we see a fearless issac, not because of insanity but because he’s done this twice. Hell you could even chop it up to being his version of limbo or hell having died in his apartment in a none horrifying or tragic way like everyone he knew.
@@Roebuck325 I forget if you miss any special dialogue. And it does make it interesting since you do end up fighting eachother. I never played it just know I thought it was cool that they took it that far for single and multiplayer
I kind of wonder if the Marker just needed him to die, and it had him activate that section of his brain and lured him closer so that it could more effectively broadcast to him.
1:50 I think it did so well, especially when you play them back to back, because the gameplay loop in DS2 feels like it's assuming the player JUST played DS1. The game feels a little faster, you have more control of Isaac, but after the first few sequences, the enemies and environment have been ramped up to adjust for your buffs. I feel like in DS2, even if it's more action focused, the horror elements are elevated because the game makes you feel smaller, like a mosquito; you may feel more free but one wrong move and you're done.
i always thought earthgov did have some control over the marker. they were supposedly safe from necromorphs until isaac let them in. plus it didnt seem like anyone was going crazy inside the earthgov base? but if they did somehow control its insanity effect that secret died with everyone on titan
there's audio logs of a researcher who was studying the marker's they were creating from Isaac's mind, despite having marker dementia suppressants he realized too late the marker was still subtly making earthgov scientists build markers and they were never in control but the other way around, that reality is something earthgov higher ups won't accept and think the marker is something they can come to understand and control. They're desperate to make the marker a new source of energy when the planetcracking business went under or else humanity won't have enough resources and will lead to a war for resources that might wipe themselfs out.
@@yokesplooge2852 oooooh, dang i must have forgot about that. things like this just make me wish deadspace 4 was made so we find out where they came from...but with the remakes success perhaps after they remake 2 and 3 we will get a 4?
Great video. Earned a sub for sure. I love the progression of Isaac; going from lashing out to selling his soul for a hug to his redemption. His actions do a stellar job of encapsulating the mind of someone that just doesn't want to do *this* anymore. Whatever *this* is. This struggle, this pain, this life. I just feel it paints a fairly deep picture of him without having to spell it out. I also appreciate you opening up a bit about your relationship. I'm a sucker for that stuff. I thinks it's the sincerity of it tbh. Probably why I love Pearl Jam lol. Their whole first album is practically littered with bits of Eddie Vedder's autobiography. Regardless, I'm rambling, and thanks for your effort!
lol I had "that" breakup a month before everything went insane too bro. Good video, I knew I was gonna love it the moment you said "prepare yourself for a journey of amateur optometry, action packed dementia, and learning to love yourself through violence"
Dead Space 2 is a masterpiece in undertones, gameplay and additional writing. It deserved a followup worthy but we didn't get it. That said... the Remake has given us some renewed hope, I think? Maybe? ....I want to hope, but like Isaac, it's hard to do.
I don’t know the sales numbers, but the community seems to be universally energized around a remake of 2 or just a 4 happening next. I’m cautiously hoping too!
Issac was unknowingly the villain of the entire series, if he didn't make it off the Ship in DS1 the Marker Blueprints would've never gotten out to the other colonies. The Brotheren Moons probably would've found earth eventually, but it might've bought humanity a few more years of exitance in a the dead universe
Well if you really wanna get technical, EarthGov and the Church Of Unitology were the real enemies. Unitology because they kept praising the marker even though the marker created monsters and killed people, and the government because they knew how dangerous the marker was, and continued to experiment with it, even though it was uncontainable. Issac gets caught in the crossfire because he was a survivor, if EarthGov never tried to resurface the marker, or if the CEC never got greedy and mined on Aegis VII then the marker would never be uncovered.
@@djtrac3r935 i'd say it was more earth gov entirely for several reasons: 1. They knew about the markers 2. They made up the story of Altman and indirectly spawned unitology with Altman as the prophet 3. In DS2 towards marker activation the general sgt dude says "It wasn't supposed to happen" "Then how?" "WE HAD IT UNDER CONTROL BUT NEVER EXPECTED THIS MANY PEOPLE". They almost 100% knew what would happen and that convergence would happen. But on a small scale seems like it wasn't a threat and not enough to make a brother moon. 4. In DS1 they wanna get the marker back to earth meaning they would've used it to make another Aegis 7 experiment since they already knew how to make markers. Just wanted to recycle it. They suppress info have people mysteriously not alive themselves and know about the markers probably EVERYTHING!!! Unitology is just a brainwashed side effect. The people go insane and would've anyhow with or without the religion from marker's influence. Unitologists were the earth gov downfall. They became too fanatical and grew too large. Coupled with the wipes from every marker event seems like DS3 unitologists took over the villain role. Issac isn't a villain more a pawn in everything. Especially marker's influence.
Idk if you didn't know or just didn't think it worth mentioning, but this entire video is brilliant and well thought out, and it all comes to a head at the final scene where you get an ending that both mirrors and shows a complete opposite of the first game's ending. Isaazc is flying away after a job well done, he turns to the seat next to him, and he sees none other than Ellie. Someone who cared. Someone who went against his plans only with the intent to save him. Not a jump scare, not someone who's dead and is only being used as a puppet to further use him. He's taken the final step towards redemption. He's earned a real ending. Being saved by someone who doesn't care that he *could* have ended everything, only that he didn't.
11 months late but your run down between the two Nicoles and how the first Nicole was his mind trying to kill him cause it knew the marker was trying to control him and then the marker taking over Nicole blew my mind and has now made Dead Space 2 so much more sense.
I'd say no. The unitologist's and Second Marker were the antagonists. Isaac was being used to create markers without being aware of it ever since he was found floating in space after DS1. The marker weaponized past trauma as a means of influencing Isaac but his own willpower and experience within the Ishimura allowed him to bypass his visions of Nicole since he knew she was dead but didn't truly wish to accept it which is why he kept seeing her. The marker capitalized on that specifically since it was the only way for it to get to Isaac's deeper emotions. Dismembering people and killing infected babies and kids didn't stop Isaac so the marker intended on using his destroyed love as a probe.
Isaac's mind was the purest and the Noontech Diagnostic was required for the sacrifice to be completely ready. The blueprints within the Noontech Diagnostic machine was the gathering of all blueprints used to make it and Isaac was the best recipient for this as his mind was the one most attuned to it. Isaac surviving with his grit and being spared by Nicole was on purpose until the end, if the Marker needed him dead it needed him dead as its maker to complete Convergence. And it needed him at the center of its influence to just off himself right inside the Marker's "dead space".
It’s rough to think that from Isaacs point of view the end of dead space 1 and the beginning of dead space 3 are back to back. Imagine getting through all that and then wake up in the middle of another massive outbreak. Gotta be one of the worst days on the job
This is the one of the best dead space videos I have ever seen thanks for all the effort put in man this games been a big part of life for over a decade now!
Dropping an like, putting this in watch later to avoid spoilers. But believe you me the first thing I'm doing when I finish Dead Space 2 is watch this video.
Never really thought of the comparison between the Marker's visions and the toll that an emotionally abusive relationship takes on your mind. I really appreciated your analogy and thought it was a very chilling way to think about it. Great video!
Thanks, Nacho! It took me a minute to link it as well, I couldn’t figure out why - even though I think I prefer 1 - 2 made me so much more uncomfortable. They really make it personal in this game. Glad you enjoyed the video!
This was a much better essay than I thought it would be when I clicked. From the tittle I thought it was gonna be one of those wisenheimers trying to sell "the unseen truth", but you made quite the point, and actually gave it a very human and authentic vision for the character. Good work!
I remember playing dead space 1 when i was 13. Then much later i endend up in a 3 years long toxic relationship with its ups and downs, breakups and comebacks. And i remember automatically picking dead space 1 again, playing it again and again, then downloading the 2,i remember being so attached to this character as i was trying to let go of all that happened. I felt abused but also guilty because i was being guilt tripped constantly, i felt like i was just a puppet to others and that i could never find someone able to love me for who i am. I ended up having bad coping mechanisms, while trying to stay sane and together also by playing these games. They wete cathartic to me, they were a way to rationalize and take distance from all the pain i lived, knowing that isaac has had it rough too and i wasn't alone. My life has been way better now and I've found peace, but it was hard and damn, having a videogame able to make me live past experiences better, able to make me reflect on my past mistakes and shit , is something rare and absolutely unique. This is not a book, this is not a movie, this is a videogame. And it's absolutely gorgeous. Hope it wasn't too depressing and cringe to read but i wanted to just say how much i love this masterpiece, that also helped me a lot somehow :) the 3 was all right, ew. Like i like it just for the cosmic horror vibes. The rest is just not fitting.
the ending of dp2 is one of the greatest ngl. I really thought isaac was gonna die but at the same time, it felt fulfilling so i felt like I was done aswell. Right until Ellie comes outta knowhere and saves us which gave me as a player, hope aswell and it felt SO BADASS to go full speed to save yourself!
I remember beating DS2 for the first time and seeing the Dead Space 2 title at the end. I was like this it it was a good run, Isaac. Then Ellie showed up and that moment I felt like I had to live. Crazy how a game does that. I mean live as in be Isaac in that moment.
I love that they built in fake outs like this. We’re streaming it in Hard Core on my second channel right now, and it’s made me appreciate how much work went into every encounter.
Using Among Us to tell the story of Dead Space is easily one of the most creative ways to tell a story I’ve seen. And be honest, destroying asteroids as a task did remind me of Dead Space.
i came here to watch a video about dead space 2 and i get out more depressed than expected, Isaac is like iron, only his rust can break him, like we all are, trying to make us whole again and falling alone
I remember I watched the end of Dead Space 2 first before the first game. At first I was thinking “Did Isaac realize that she’s like a villain that’ll cause the events of the third game or something?” Not knowing anything else about the series. Now that I’ve seen the end of the first then saw the second, i can tell it really didn’t mean much at all, but I do I get what they’re referencing now.
woah. both video editing and story telling is insane. I never usually able to watch things like this from start to finish but your vid got me sticking without skips.
DS3 ruined her character entirely. Which idk why they didn't give them all suits and instead have like half the team wearing casual start trek styled clothing. It's zero G in space and they all wore casual clothing. Saving grace would've been DS4 where in a Q&A devs said Ellie would've been the main character saving people survivors on earth. But yeah instead we got Carver and a semi decent bromance of 2 messed up dudes who see eye to eye in the end and fulfill the mission.
Came across this video out of randomness, but it's such a captivating watch! DS is probably my favourite ever game series (not as much 3) and the idea of a lore/ theory video was really good!
Great analysis i finished all the games and currently am halfway through the remake and much appreciate this because you can hardly stop to think about this while murdering necromorphs
I’m glad this video caught my attention in the recommendations, I love Dead Space and especially, Dead Space 2. Thank you for the analysis, I just love to see how characters improve, the way Isaac slowly, but surely goes mad, the way he accepts all the things he has done is just - muah, french kiss ❤ These series are still my favorite, too sad to see what happened to Dead Space 3…
I absolutely loved Dead Space, and part two was amazing. I felt more dread and horror in Dead Space much like you would experience in an unknown environment and fear would be the main factor in your mind. In part 2, it was the fantasy that most people would imagine as the “what if” if they were placed in such a situation. Part two was the all the horror of the first game but Isaac was a evolved character set to take on the enemy, a lot like how someone watching a movie would react differently than the character being viewed
Thank you for sharing a very real moment in what I thought would just be another (awesome) dead space video, I love creators putting pieces of themselves in their work. Now to reflect
Awesome video! Love Dead Space 2, it came at such a tough time in my life. And while I haven't saved humanity (yet) nor been the bane of thousands of necromorphs, I related a lot with the shame, guilt, and self-hate that Isaac went through and the journey he went on to find peace and acceptance. Keep up the great work!
I haven't watched the full video yet so I'm not sure if you find this but in chapter 5 in the tripod boss you can get attacked by Franco as a necromorph. Pretty cool easter egg.
lmao I love that crazed look Isaac gives when he looks over to his right in the final scene, it's somewhat hilarious how it reflects everything he went through
@@KevinHelpUs No worries! Also appreciate your vulnerability about the comparison between Nicole and your past relationship. Those personal things we experience definitely gives us a better understanding of how Isaac feels, and just in general.
@@khyrie5704 Thanks, I felt like I was doing a lot of judging him (I guess that is the premise of the video), but I could understand why he made some of those choices and wanted to acknowledge that too.
@@KevinHelpUs Oh for sure! When you explained about what happened in your past, I felt that I could relate a lot to it. So it made more sense to me the more I played it
My ex wife developed a schizoaffective disorder and this game has brought so much comfort into my life. Really good exploration of these feelings. Thank you.
Fantastic video, I’m currently binging all dead space content I can after beating all 3 games as a result of the remake being shown off. It and The Callisto Protocol has me just absolutely hyped. I hope you do videos on them as I can’t wait to see them soon enough!!!
I rarely comment on youtube but damn, the quality of this video is top tier. I was geniunenly surprised to scroll down and see that you don't have at least 500k subs. Keep it up man!
God damn I love this game, solid interpretation. I think his jump to badassery can be attributed to him just being past giving a shit. He stared down certain death more times than he can count and he’s past being scared
I thought it was 3 years after from what i saw in game
@@Dabajaws It is. DS1 takes place 2508, DS2 is 2511.
It’s a perfect bookend!
In the remake, u can get both endings where one is nicole jump scare and the other is just Ella.
Isaac is so powerful that only Isaac can defeat Isaac.
And live.
Ngl if they made a DS4 it'd be nice if they made a the suffering styled end boss fight. You don't fight anyone or anything but instead a hallucination of yourself. All distorted by how much the marker and others have corrupted you.

The fact issac is based on the die hard protagonist makes so much damn sense
Right? I can’t not see it now.
I’ve actually thought a LOT about this. And I agree!
Yeah the general from 3 had the right idea. Nobody should know about this thing, potentially unlimited energy is way too tempting to pass up
@liquidsword601 True, and I think that's where Kendra's flaws manifested.
Thank you - and I’ve never actually read the objective descriptions in 1! Maybe I should.

I think in Downfall Marker just command them not to get close, so Alissa can send the becon
The fact that Marker literally guide her to do that
It’s actually referred to in-game as being a “Dead Space” around the marker.
You can see the rim of his face in that first scene, yes.
@@KevinHelpUs You can see his whole face actually. Just after the Kellion crashes into the landing bay, just before everyone gets out of their seats, the game let's you turn the camera all the way toward his front and you get a full shot of his face, then it forces the camera back behind him when he puts his helmet on.
yup, only after the crash though :(
But the player model performs authentic reactions of shock and surprise at least.

To unlock the secret ending, you only need to collect the 12 marker fragments.
u mean alternate ending ???
@@uthopia27 depends on who you ask. Secret/Alternate, same thing.
As geoffrey stated, you have to find 12 marker fragments and then place them in the Captain's quarters. Those fragments are only available in new game plus. Difficulty has nothing to do with unlocking the alternate ending.
YES,
So I first played Dead Space 2 when I was 14 and it became one of my favorite games ever.
Just sadly you need
1. Other game prior to 2
2. Read the comics
But yeah i agree entirely.
But unlike you not every hates carver.
Love how there's two games where a person named Isaac is an antagonist and protagonist
What’s the other one?
Maybe it's the binding of Isaac because Isaac technically fights his angel self as a boss fight
0:01 now that i think about title, i thought about whether issac was hallucinating necromorphs when in reality they were all people.
Since the remake was so well received, it looks like everyone is hungry for a new installment or a remake of 2. I’d take both!
‘Cause this is all I’ve got left.”
And I think that perfectly leads from the Isaac at the start of the game who is a little soft spoken right into the Isaac from Dead Space 2.
Brother Gaming has been dying since the fall of Rome how bout a game of Ur?
@@klutzspecter3470 that is one of the best things I have ever read
Exactly, Dead Space 2 went that intense because Necromorphs weren't that new. Setpíeces were intense, but still urgent and you felt you were in danger the whole time. It's very hard to make a sequel scarier than the original game because, unless you have a graphical upgrade like Silent Hill 1 have to Silent Hilll 2, even then you have to rely on genious design. I think only Resident Evil 2 got away with that when the whole game happened in a police station, one of the safest places for most people.

The needle in the unitology ward was also his subconscious reminding him of the process in which they prob his thoughts of the marker.
I could see that. I love it when a sequel assumes you’ve played the original and doesn’t hold your hand - DS2 definitely doesn’t.
i always thought earthgov did have some control over the marker. they were supposedly safe from necromorphs until isaac let them in. plus it didnt seem like anyone was going crazy inside the earthgov base? but if they did somehow control its insanity effect that secret died with everyone on titan
there's audio logs of a researcher who was studying the marker's they were creating from Isaac's mind, despite having marker dementia suppressants he realized too late the marker was still subtly making earthgov scientists build markers and they were never in control but the other way around, that reality is something earthgov higher ups won't accept and think the marker is something they can come to understand and control. They're desperate to make the marker a new source of energy when the planetcracking business went under or else humanity won't have enough resources and will lead to a war for resources that might wipe themselfs out.

The moons have likely known about Earth long before CEC discovered the red Marker since the black Marker has been on Earth for millions of years.
@@djtrac3r935 ^
@@armannstraughter3296 glad to see someone agrees
@@djtrac3r935 i'd say it was more earth gov entirely for several reasons:
1. They knew about the markers
2. They made up the story of Altman and indirectly spawned unitology with Altman as the prophet
3. In DS2 towards marker activation the general sgt dude says
"It wasn't supposed to happen"
"Then how?"
"WE HAD IT UNDER CONTROL BUT NEVER EXPECTED THIS MANY PEOPLE".
I was torn between explaining the ending and not, decided to let it be open to interpretation, but I think you summed it up really well!

11 months late but your run down between the two Nicoles and how the first Nicole was his mind trying to kill him cause it knew the marker was trying to control him and then the marker taking over Nicole blew my mind and has now made Dead Space 2 so much more sense.
Glad you enjoyed it!
that little heart attack when he looks to his right but there is no jumpscare this time
You can find the opening conversation in a log in the remake.
And it needed him at the center of its influence to just off himself right inside the Marker's "dead space".

honestly, guts and isaac clarke are my 2 most favorite struggler character archetypes in fiction
12:11 it’s a self defense mechanism to prevent convergence. The first novel (“Martyr”, the title is something like that) explains that.
That wasn’t cringe at all! Thanks a lot for sharing, I’m glad these games meant a lot to you too.
Should try silent hill 2 or 4 as well, not same mechanics and a less action but it’s about the psychological griefs of the main character as well
@@skylercrookes3197 I like Silent Hill 2 a lot! Never tried 4, but heard good things.
@@skylercrookes3197 thank you! I'll try it as soon as possible
@@KevinHelpUs your channel is about to blow up, algorithm hit it
2:47 fighting Mom in The Binding of Isaac
the ending of dp2 is one of the greatest ngl.
I now understand the Dead Space 2 lore now.
i came here to watch a video about dead space 2 and i get out more depressed than expected, Isaac is like iron, only his rust can break him, like we all are, trying to make us whole again and falling alone
After the first's ending, can't help but be paranoid about the one next to Isaac jumping at him again... So, that sigh is very relatable.
Too true.
The theory for this made me tear up. It makes a lot of sense not being to let go and all. That completely changes the meaning of the games
Love how years later there's new videos about this game and new interesting perspectives on the narrative. Great video, loved it.
Thank you - so glad you enjoyed it!
The phrase "I don't even text my family back in full sentences" really puts into perspective how far I wouldn't go to be a hero during an apocalypse.
woah. both video editing and story telling is insane. I never usually able to watch things like this from start to finish but your vid got me sticking without skips.
Thanks for sticking with it!
You noticed how they snuck in Ellie wearing the suit as well when saving Isaac at the end? I think they teased her being a playable or main character
I didn’t, but I wish they would! There was another commenter that said she should have been your co-op partner for Dead Space 3, and I 100% agree.
I know I’m a year late but it would have been hilarious if in the end when Isaac turns to see Ellie it’s the Dead Space 3 box cover
Argh, I should have done that!
Came across this video out of randomness, but it's such a captivating watch! DS is probably my favourite ever game series (not as much 3) and the idea of a lore/ theory video was really good!
So glad you enjoyed it!
Your Worst Enemy is Within Yourself...
The Worst Foe Lies within the Self...
Amazing Video
I've never realised how deep DS2 really was
Changed my whole perspective on Isaac and the Franchise in General
Wow, thanks so much for saying so! I'm really glad you enjoyed it.
Great analysis i finished all the games and currently am halfway through the remake and much appreciate this because you can hardly stop to think about this while murdering necromorphs
I’m glad this video caught my attention in the recommendations, I love Dead Space and especially, Dead Space 2. Thank you for the analysis, I just love to see how characters improve, the way Isaac slowly, but surely goes mad, the way he accepts all the things he has done is just - muah, french kiss ❤
These series are still my favorite, too sad to see what happened to Dead Space 3…
Thank YOU for saying so!
Watching the dead space 3 cover behind you was like watching the brute run up behind Hammond
Part two was the all the horror of the first game but Isaac was a evolved character set to take on the enemy, a lot like how someone watching a movie would react differently than the character being viewed
isaac and his isaac lived together in an isaac
10:00 oh christ i wasnt expecting this to get uncomfortably relatable
Sorry you could relate to it. I hope things are better now.
@@KevinHelpUs I am. And I hope you are too.
@@RipDippler I am! Thanks for asking.
Thanks so much for saying so! So glad you enjoyed it.
@@KevinHelpUs Can't wait to see the video you (hopefully) make about the Dead Space Remake!
@@DPham1 Writing the script this week. :)
The retelling of Dead Space 1 using Among Us is chief kiss
That was a lot of fun to make.
I haven't watched the full video yet so I'm not sure if you find this but in chapter 5 in the tripod boss you can get attacked by Franco as a necromorph. Pretty cool easter egg.
Wait, really? I never noticed that!
@@KevinHelpUs yes I didn't notice it until my second run of the game
lmao I love that crazed look Isaac gives when he looks over to his right in the final scene, it's somewhat hilarious how it reflects everything he went through
Dude your humour along with excellent editing made me subscribe and like. I hope your channel grows larger
Thanks so much for saying so - glad to have you here!
That whole bit that ended at 10:11 was really nice, hope your better now g
Thanks! I am, but appreciate the kind words.
Been waiting for this one for a while. Great work and keep em coming!
Thanks so much for saying so! I had a lot of fun making this one.
Thank you.
Solid editing and humor with smart analysis 👍 subbed
Thanks so much for saying so! Glad to have you here.
I like the fact that in dead space 2, issac still has ptsd from the nicole jumpscare in the first game.
I cant even describe how good this video is
at the start of dead space 2 franklin turns INTO A NECROMORPH
and what does isaac do?
HE HEADBUTTS IT RIGHT INTO ITS NOSE
Fantastic video, I’m currently binging all dead space content I can after beating all 3 games as a result of the remake being shown off. It and The Callisto Protocol has me just absolutely hyped. I hope you do videos on them as I can’t wait to see them soon enough!!!
Thanks so much for saying so! And yep, Callisto is up next, and the DS remake after that.
I rarely comment on youtube but damn, the quality of this video is top tier. I was geniunenly surprised to scroll down and see that you don't have at least 500k subs. Keep it up man!
Everyone starts somewhere - and thanks so much for your kind words! That meant a lot.
this just furthered dead space 2 as one of my favorite games of all time, i love this game's story and gameplay so much
So glad you enjoyed it!
18:20 yeah even on the first game I was really questioning the name choice “issac” alot. Man it feels good to be semi right.
God damn I love this game, solid interpretation. I think his jump to badassery can be attributed to him just being past giving a shit. He stared down certain death more times than he can count and he’s past being scared
True. You even see that arc in the remake now where he goes from concerned professional to surgical demon across the game.
