Baby Boomer here! How in the world did you get to be so smart and so intuitive. Just LOVE watching your videos primarily because of YOU! Thanks for your insights!
@Jride_Flips, may I please request that you turn up the volume of your final recording before saving the final cut? I have my computer speakers and UA-cam volume up all the way and it is still a bit too quiet. Thanks for your consideration!
GenX here (but more a Xennial frame of mind, my father had computers in every room of our house in the '80's so I have always been tech-forward from childhood). WHAT A BRILLIANT way to communicate your point!!! We call can relate to your analogy and then walk wayyyyyyyy back further to even more archaic tech. You are so right on how the world is changing, and I have seen what you are pointing out for awhile now, but I feel like you put this so well and it's impossible to not get your point. If anyone takes offense, that's just natural fear. No one wants to feel irrelevant, and that can happen for some. Fortunately, I think enough of us who are not tech-fearful are aging that hopefully we will be more malleable. Thank you for your content. I'm a 20 year eBay account shopper (I know!), but brand new to selling. So I'm a blank slate and I'm just going to follow all I have learned from you, and I plan on CRUSHING it.
"Computers in every room". That is sick. tech-forward? Probably need to check into a tech-addiction clinic. Like people with televisions in every room. Psychologists will all tell you there need to be separation between people rooms and that glowing screen, be it TV, computer or cell phone.
@@samshepperrd My father was an engineer and was working with/playing with them, loved them, knew they were the future and wanted us comfortable with them. Thank you for your concern. I’m aware of screen time and what it can do. You might want to warn the others though…
@@carlasidhom5785 Not just "screen time". I got into computers taking a course using the Apple 2. My first computer was a RadioShack Color computer in 1983. Then a Tandy 100:(first popular laptop with LCD screen) in 1984. Bought my first PC in 1989 - an XT "turbo" beige box. Started picking up used PCs at yard sales and thrift stores, restoring them to usable and reselling them. then on to computer swap meets, (which were massive here in So Cal). Built systems from components and selling them. So I'm not a newbie to PCs. Started repairing PCs for others at home. Took and passed passed the COMPTEA A+ computer repair tech test in 1995. Got into the Internet through CompuServe before there was a World Wide Web which was used mostly then by people into computers - sys admins, system builders, repair techs like myself. @@samshepperrd I can see where it might seem that way, but that was not the intention. The kids were in high school at this point and had many years of memorizing and learning to take tests. I sold on eBay back in 2000 and just recently started selling again. Things have definitely changed, but I think for the better! I truly love your videos. so basically trends change brands get saturated and if you don’t list good items or if your listing specifics / title is wrong or bad they won’t sell and you’ll complain ebay sucks. As a 8 year ebay seller, nothing has changed. I remember when brooks brothers shirts were going $35. Now i don’t even pick them up. This happens it’s not new lol.
Been selling on eBay since dec. 2000. Adapting has always been the name of the game. I could write a book on what I've seen over the years, but who cares? I still have one Brooks Brothers polo shirt listed, so you made me laugh.😊 Hey! They're not making them anymore.
Jake, no need to be nervous. You're a natural teacher and nothing comes across in a negative way. At least not in these Gen X eyes! Keep doing your thing, man. We're here for it. Great video.

As we get older it is much harder to do what you are doing today. That is another thing you want to think about. As a younger baby boomer - I've seen it all! What I see today is not even believable. Thank you for your kindness sir!
Listen chippy, I'm a Gen X, and I need to teach you a thing or two. It's a VCR that plays VHS! Lmao! This was a really long way around to make the point that we need to get with the program. You really did lose me on the Loyalty program and switch and save. It didn't seem relevant in the long run. You did give some nice tips about tearing your shop apart and either lowering the price or getting rid of the item. That is smart thinking. One thing you didn't mention that I was surprised about was Google Lens. I have friends my age who have no idea that it exists and what a game changer it can be for your business. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
You're right. I sourced things last year that were going for high dollar back then but I didn't list them and I threw in storage. I finally got to them this month and finding out the market on them has dropped in price drastically. I also am going through my old items listed and seeing prices that have dropped on those too. Thanks for sharing!

You did a great job and very informative and totally agree with you! Some people also don’t like to change which makes it tough for them. Thanks again for your excellent information!!
This is absolutely true! I had a pink hoodie in my store for about four months and little to no action switched the department to mens and sold in DAYS. Every morning I update my ending today listing and been having some luck. Now, Just got to stop picking up women's clothing. Women's clothing JUST AIN'T IT!
I’m here from baby boom trying to find creations date in filter. My listing s get renewed automatically every 30 days would that make a difference?? Not sure how to find creation date any help would be appreciated Thanks ehhhh
Great job as always. Never be afraid to end/sell similar because you think you will lose your original listing date. If you are doing the correct accounting stuff, you should have this date in an excel sheet or something else. I even have mine color coded from red (over 180) into yellow and then green (under 60 days)
Its all true and a subject that needs to be talked about. However, its relevant to all resellers and I'd stay away from identifying any group of people as the possible potential culprits it could get you in a lot of trouble no matter how good your intentions are (which I don't doubt for one minute). Keep up the good work.
Wassup, hello. I'm a late stage boomer so I have a hard core attitude. Nothing you are sayingbis offensive, it is insightful. I in the process of gathering all the info on starting to sell on ebay. I am unsure of few things, one more than others. I am hopefully looking st starting in 2024. One thing that will never changevthough is one phrase that you used and I love it. That is simply, punk. It will never change. I will continue to watch you and learn. Thank you,
Or we GenXers are still recovering from raising you guys after being raised by Baby Boomers. With that said, those from GenX are more likely to have the patience to revisit items in our stores. GenZ and Millennials are more likely to complain that eBay isn’t handing them sales and end up quitting. (Of course, if my opinion sounds one sided, I think we agree with should stop generalizing about entire generations 😊).
Some of us GenXers were raised by Silent Generation folks. My mother missed being a boomer by a couple years but my father was born in 38. I know it's beside the point, but I was compelled to mention it anywsay.
I absolutely love technology, I don’t understand it every time, but with technology we’ve grown and in able to help people more, and I can remember when I sold by a classified ass in a magazine. And it could take two months to get that ass published. And then you had to wait on a money order or a check. I remember when Paypal made it possible to take a credit card on your phone I was so excited. People complain because they think kids spend too much time in front of a screen, but are used to get in trouble for spending too much time with my head in the clouds, or my face in a book different. It’s just technology. We are a technical technologically advanced culture. There’s no turning back. I was born in 1950 Long Beach, or a lot of the technology was even consideration.
Could you try to have a standard volume for the whole video? When you pause or insert clips the volume is changed drastically and at some clips blows my ear drums because some sections are very low volume.
Hello. Please tell me, before you start selling on eBay, do you need to upgrade your account somehow? Some people say that you first need to buy several products on eBay in order to get some kind of rating, while others say that you need to immediately list the product and sell it. And please also tell me from what sources did you learn how to properly package a product, make a description, how to arrange delivery correctly, in general, everything related to trading on ebay? If you don't mind, please write. Thank you.
KanCan jeans is a perfect example. 1-2 years ago they were on many bolo lists. Now 20-25% STR at best! Some more like 10%. Just sold a pair this morning that I had to mark down to $17 then still took a while to move.
I would really like you to do a video on customer retention and how much it costs to retain customers as opposed to the time and money it takes to get new ones. Honestly, when I hear the terms Baby Boomer or Gen Xer, I hear agism and separatism in action, and I have to gear up for a 30 year old telling me how I'm an idiot and still living in 1986, but thanks for the info...
Thank you. I like your information, but your sound system is a little off. Kind of low, and a little garbled then its gets loud. And when a commercial come on the sound is glaringly loud. I usually don't click on your videos because I know that I'll have to keep my hand on the mouse and constantly adjust the sound. Otherwise great job.
I'm a Gen X but somewhat young one, right on the border of being a millennial. I never expect a loyalty discount. I'll take it if I can get it somewhere but expecting one is just not part of my thinking so I'm not exactly sure what you are talking about here. :) Also my experience with not selling items right away is mixed, some items have gone down in price, and others have gone up. Also, can someone explain why do people pay $200 for a used camera that was $150 new.
I'm on the older end of Gen X. I hear you on the loyalty thing. I don't remember ever getting a discount for being a loyal customer. Maybe a coupon here and there but that's about it. Lol. The one thing that's gone for me is car insurance. (Knock wood) lol. 'Bout the only thing too when everything else is going up.
BOOMER here Hey Johnny come latley lol..... NOT everyone is so out of touch as you may think I think you might be just doing a vid on something you just recently learned .......i lik your vids most the time ....oh one more thing when i was 28yo i thought i knew everything when you get 38 48 58 even 69yos you my friend will be doing and thinking completely different
From one boomer to another, this kid is amazing and knows so much, not because he learned it from someone but because he's not afraid to do what others won't try. Personally, I have been in sales my whole life and ended my career before retiring as a C-level officer for a tech company and I have learned more from Jake than anyone involved with Ebay so far! Let's give him the credit he's due! LOVE THE KID!!!
Johnny come lately? You didn't need to clarify boomer that phrase does it for you. I don't think he thinks he knows everything. He's obviously had success doing what he does and I think genuinely wants to help others. If you don't feel the advice applied to you then it didn't. Changing and thinking different as years go by is exactly his point. I'm going to start shopping around car insurance!
While we're all here and falling to dust, do not expect anyone under 16 in 2023 to know how to use a computer keyboard OR a game controller. If they see a screen, they assume it's a touch screen, and that the screen is how the device is controlled. They will push other controllers/keyboards out of the way to start thumbing at the screen, it's their first impulse. They do not recognize those peripherals as part of the machine. That's their normal, and it's probably going to be everyone's normal before long. So keep that in mind as you sell.
I’m a Xer who expected far more advanced society than today. Still tech is slow, not enough storage capability. AI should be more advanced than it is. It’s disappointing considering being a fan of Star Trek. I work in IT and I can tell you there’s a push to keep Dev and tech slow and cumbersome due to workers preserving jobs. I’m not to typical Xer at all. Tech has more capability but it’s being restrained.
I disagree with you. On that lps records and CDs don’t do well. Yes they do especially records however it is a good idea to expand and sell other categories like cameras, perfumes and jewelry
What about Gen Jones? Brat Packers! Absolutely not boomers. MTV! I was programming computers when the floppies really were floppy. But ive always embraced new. Its absolutely a mindset. Youre a good guy.
No offense taken! Gen Xer here and I watch your videos for advice. I don't care how old you are :) Where else can I go to get business advice for free?!?! Keep up the great work and know that its appreciated.
You’ve got to adapt. I’ve been running sales, sending aggressive offers and ending and selling similar which I never did before. If you won’t adapt from what was working in 2020 when you started then you might want to explore a different career or website.
It’s actually more basic. All these “founders” and “entrepreneurs” have forgotten the most basic tenant of economics… supply and demand. The channels you are referring to have spent hours lamenting promoted listings because the alternative of actually selling things people want is off the table. As an executive of a public company and a hobbiest seller, I outperform these “influencers” week after week. Instead of teaching others these channels have become big boxes of “misery loves company”. They literally think it is audacious that eBay favors people who make sales consistently and quickly. Those who ship in a day, send offers etc. They were waiting for eBay to “tell them what to do” ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? If you aren’t getting sales, THAT’S YOUR SIGN. I’m 55 btw and although I hear resellers say “I didn’t want to work for the man” maybe they should have. This is business 101.
Hey Jride, this was an interesting video. I happen to be Gen X and would say that some of the things that you think about Gen X are generalizations. For example, the loyalty mindset. I personally don't have that. Then you brought up that Gen X and BBs are behind the times as to what is currently selling. This is the exact reason I watch yours' and others' videos - to find out what is selling!! Anyhoo, I guess nobody likes to be stereotyped - i.e. millennials are lazy and entitled. I'm guessing you're a millennial and I can almost guarantee that that's not true about you. 🙂 What I can do is take from your wisdom and experience which you obviously have and learn from it so I thank you. Oh BTW, my daughter married a semi-Mormon and I know the exact door-to-door pest control company you are talking about (he happens to be out selling for them this summer, LOL).
Your apprehension to dropping this video was your intuition trying to tell you your intro is not authentic. It’s got a salesman clicks bait vibe right from the title. What you are trying to express is no brainer advice for any age, and generation. Settle down grasshopper 🤣🤣😎😇
Nope now its about the AI. Our job is to sell to the AI. Which means have what most people are asking for. Oh sure we can eventually sell the Easter Bunny plush toy..in 2-3 yrs. But far better to have a Jake Scott hat in your bins.

Very levelheaded advice. I’m going to check my listings like you suggested…..the ones that make no sense will wind up in garage sale piles.
Reality is better than wishful thinking. Thanks for the reminder! I'm between Boomer & Gen X.
Gen X here! You are so right! Thank you for your honesty!
Its all true and a subject that needs to be talked about. However, its relevant to all resellers and I'd stay away from identifying any group of people as the possible potential culprits it could get you in a lot of trouble no matter how good your intentions are (which I don't doubt for one minute). Keep up the good work.
Great video! Found you recently like your sharing! Thanks
Thank you
I saw you on Kay’s podcast and now I follow you.
Love it! Thanks Laura!
Jake, this has been the most insightful, informative and useful video you’ve put out yet. (GenX)
Very much appreciated. I have been working on this very thing too !! Great information
Thank you,
GenXer here. great advice as always.
This is very good advice. Thanks!
Love your content brother
I appreciate that!
As a Gen Xer, I’m not offended at all. I appreciate all the info you give. I will definitely be revamping my store soon. Ty!
So your solution is to stay with ebay and offer discounts. Rather than switch platforms for better sales results?
Hi! Genxer here. I am. not offended. Thank you for sharing! i appreciate the information!
Good points thanks for the information 👍
@@wordivore That’s a fair point. Mine barely made into the Boomer category themselves (by a few years, anyway).
Amen 😂😂😂😂
Question, does eBay penalize you/your account for ending items? When choosing reason should I choose ‘no longer available’?
I would really like you to do a video on customer retention and how much it costs to retain customers as opposed to the time and money it takes to get new ones. Honestly, when I hear the terms Baby Boomer or Gen Xer, I hear agism and separatism in action, and I have to gear up for a 30 year old telling me how I'm an idiot and still living in 1986, but thanks for the info...
So true social media influencers really push fashion trends, I sell clothing, and also want nothing to do with social media. 😂
Very informative video. Thank you.
I really appreciate your content. You have great advice. ❤❤
Good advice 😊🙏🌹🙏❣️
Thanks for commenting!
What’s changing on eBay? you post a hat or shirt and people want it or not. Simple. It’s eBay that’s complicating something so simple
Ebay has forgotten its roots. It CEO calls us LOW VALUE sellers if we are not selling the expensive items.
thank you, signed boomer :)
Do you have hashtags you recommend following?
Total newbie here, but how do you invest in a company 🤔 I love the idea, but never have before. 😂
You have to create a bromate account with fidelity or Robinhood
Remember "L@@k" in titles?
Lol I still see it all the time
Could I get the name of your eBay store to check it out
Thank you for this reminder! how do I find sell through rates?
Jake has made a number of videos detailing it. Check them out. Very easy.
Not rambling at all, or condescending. Super helpful.
Singling out older generations is not a good look.
He's just jealous he doesn't get the senior discounts.
I hate the AI description 😂😂😂 flowery.
For what its worth you look way older than 28. Like nearly 45.
Really all of people say I look 22 lol
Brutal, I like that in a Pilot.
ua-cam.com/video/p890hIa1w9k/v-deo.html
Still love a damn rumba! But not bc of the amazing AI tech
Your apprehension to dropping this video was your intuition trying to tell you your intro is not authentic. It’s got a salesman clicks bait vibe right from the title.
What you are trying to express is no brainer advice for any age, and generation.
Settle down grasshopper 🤣🤣😎😇
It's now all about likes, shares, comments, and subscribers. In a nut shell, it's really all about the algorithm. Hope this comment helps 🫡
Nope now its about the AI. Our job is to sell to the AI. Which means have what most people are asking for. Oh sure we can eventually sell the Easter Bunny plush toy..in 2-3 yrs. But far better to have a Jake Scott hat in your bins.
Great info, I had been looking for this very topic, and you did a great job on it. Just subbed
