Hi. Too many people are stuck on this idea of list it and it will get sold. I've been selling on eBay for 24 years mostly part-time but full-time over the last a couple years. Not once has it ever crossed my mind to just list it and it'll eventually get sold. Everything I list on eBay is curated by me and now my wife. Market research is so important. I rely heavily on my experience and cross check that with what is currently selling. It's actually been a really strong start to the year. So far this year my best performing items are PC and server components.
*BS.....not even 5 years ago, you could list literally anything and it would sell within a month. You could rip a page out of a Fart Joke book and list it as a 1 page from fart joke book and you would have 253 views and 42 watchers.*
People aren’t buying cause they changed how offers work on eBay. Now the second you get an offer you have to confirm it immediately, rather then waiting until you’re ready to pay. Because of that you can’t combine multiple offers so you avoid paying shipping multiple times, and you can’t use PayPal to pay over time. This led to me buying a lot less and I know I’m not the only one.
Been doing reselling for years as a side hustle. I watch videos of what people are buying to stay knowledgeable, but your videos are really changing the way I think about operations. I pull a lot of value out of these videos. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Great video. I have been selling on eBay / online since 1998 and this is a great take on what is actually on. Things change. Companies change. You have to change with it or you will be the person posting videos every day bout how eBay is broken.
Jride. You have become my favorite eBay seller on UA-cam. You have great, upfront, truthful information. Yet you say it in a manner that is not condescending or abrasive. You are very humble and you have motivated me to start selling now with tips I have learned from you. Stay blessed Jride and may you continue to have many more sales. Thank you for all you do.
Thrifting followed by garage sales. I love youtubers that comment during videos about what/why they are picking up an item. It's great when you are watching while doing something else. Awesome finds!
I Dont sell nothing for 3 days and than on the fourth day I sell 4 items for 300€ which Im ok with as a part time reseller. 👍🏼 Always looking to improve.
Starting to get back into eBay a bit wondering if I should get on mercari as well. I did create a poshmark account way back but the follows became overwhelming. I know there’s options now to handle that. Shout out to thriftalife he’s the first person I saw (not saying he’s the first) on YT advising to cross list regarding clothing. Brilliant idea
hey man.. same thing here. i’ve used mercari in the past (basic side hustle) and i like it really no complaints from me. never got scammed buying or selling. minimal seller fees as well, i recommend you try it out !! personally i don’t like posh
Also one funny thing I just thought about listening to you talk about that frank sinatra cassette that you found. One of my biggest estate sale finds was a complete works of frank sinatra cd collection in a big leather case. Sold it for $200.
Hello! I recently started putting a ton of effort into my store and have noticed massive improvements in sales and overall engagement. I used to just buy items I PERSONALLY THOUGHT would sell and not what ACTUALLY DOES. I believe this is a mistake many people make. While it is good to have things you enjoy listing and shipping on your page, if you want to make sales, you need items that the numbers actually back up. For example, months ago I would have never picked up blender cups, "those are just junk", I would have told myself. But after watching your video on high str items, I saw a kitchen aide one at the bins for a buck, I listed it for $40 + shipping and sold it within a week. Just because you don't see value in the item doesn't mean others don't. Do your research and you will notice improvements
I totally understand and get the fast STR items, but the trick is finding them. What is the best way to find those high STR items. I go on my Goodwill run here in NJ at least 3x a week if not 4x per week and it's becoming harder and harderd to find those high STR items. I can spend a good 1hr to 2hrs in each Goodwill store and I manage to visit at least three of them each time I'm out on my run. I live pretty far from each one of them too. I'm an hour away from the 1st one, the next one is 35min away from the 1st one, then the last one is another 35min away from the 2nd one, then I'm 1hr 20min away from home again from my last Goodwill Store. That's issue number one... the 2nd issue s Goodwill is jacking up their prices, and the eBay Sold prices are not keeping up with the rise in Goodwill prices. Once a week I go to the Flea Market which is 1hr 35min away from me so I go there on Sunday each week. I would love to hear what other resellers are experiencing and/or where they're finding high STR items?
It’s not the fact eBay want you to sell it fast, they just don’t want to keep wasting impressions on things that don’t sell. Rather than it taking 1 million impressions to make £10, they want it to be 1000 impressions.
Ebay only get paid once item sell so of course they want people to list high sell through rate. You do aware that IT team has to maintain and make sure ebay has capacity to host trillions of listings right? You have to consider The cost to maintain them, making sure everything run smoothly.
If I cross-list on another platform and I have that item listed on Ebay, how do I prevent the item from selling on both platforms before I can del-list the item from the second platform? This could really hurt my Ebay seller rating.
I cross list sometimes but you need to pay attention to what is selling on which platform. I've slipped a few times and had things sell on Mercari and Poshmark and forgot to take the listings down on Ebay.... only for them to sell on Ebay and me having to canel the order with an appology. Hasn't hurt my Ebay account or rating but I've been lucky so far with understanding customers. There's probably other resellers who have a more efficient system.
When cross posting something if it sales on one platform you have to be sure to take it down off the others. Soon as that item sells go ahead and take it down as you will forget I've had this happen several times where I would have something on eBay and forget to take it off marketplace and then somebody on marketplace will come along a week later and order it. And even bigger problem is that some of these customers don't respond back when you message them.
A couple things. Because eBay has been around 20plus years it tends to attract an older crowd. Sell through rate is a great piece of information to look at, along with cross selling. There is a guy on UA-cam that makes a living selling from eBay to Amazon, so even if an item doesn’t sell well on one platform it may sell well on another.
Not sure if you answer questions on here but when we first started 3 years ago we had the wrong mind set and that was to get as many listings as possible up in our store. I now know this was the wrong thing to do but I have a lot of time and money invested in those listings. I would say out of our 6,100 listings we have about 700 fast selling type of items. Which in the past 4 months we have transitioned into quality/fast sell through rate which works. Back to the question should I just do a 75% off sale on those less desirable and slow sell through rate items and blow them out to recoup some of that money back? Also new to your videos but great information and awesome knowledge you give out. Thank you.
I TOTALLY cannot agree with you, EBAY DOEs have Everything to do with slow sales this past year. There is something going on that we are not being told. You cannot have steady sales for years and then nothing without something wrong. It is obvious that half of the sellers were doing great and the other half were totally shut off from sales. That is due to EBAY!!! I know for a fact that my items were NOT being shown for weeks at a time. I sold over 24 items in one day and then nothing for over 4 weeks. I called ebay and they stated they would give my store a boost, guess what? my sales resumed right away. OBVIOUS that ebay has a lot to do with sales!!! I do agree with you that high sell thru items should be all sellers goal but some catagories dont have them. I have tried to find high sell thru rate jewelry with no luck. I am sure there are some but they are too expensive brands for my budget. For several reasons it is not practical for me to sell other items. Blaming the sellers is very offensive!!!!! When exactly did ebay stop placing our items on Google??
I’m curious to know what you buy new for yourself and family. For instance, I want to buy a Rollo printer. If you needed another one would you buy used?
Mercari would be great if you got paid right away like you do on eBay. I think Mercari has it ass backwards with getting paid. I really dislike shipping something before I get paid for it. That's my only problem with Mercari.
@@TheWildwoodPickerI like mercari's process better because you know 3 days after delivery, you are getting paid and it's your money. None of those return requests opened 28 days after delivery or chargebacks 2 months after delivery. It's a great feeling to have my money cashed out and knowing mercari isn't going to go digging in my bank account after the fact.
I love Mecari. They protect the seller but agreed they payout is so slow. Poshmark rapes you. I can't stand selling on that platform they steal all your profits
@@TheWildwoodPicker agreed but this worked in my favor as a buyer for some shoes that weren’t even close to what the seller was selling . Easy return process
I did incredible before Christmas. I am now doing pretty awful sales numbers... I assumed that was totally normal because everybody needed some time to cool off after Christmas. Are your sales not down at all from what they were after Christmas? Now I'm getting worried because of this video...
Ebay is collecting the vat when you purchase an item which is forwarded to the customs at the location the item is shipped to. When I receive the item, the customs in my country claims the vat one more time! Ebay has done this mistake too many times for me. I get refunded the vat, but not the fee! This is one of the reasons there’s a decrease in sales This summer I only have purchased from individual sellers, and will continue to do so.
I get my bubble mailers from Temu, but most of their stuff is really lower than Walmart like junk. I sold genuine Rolex for 16 years at authorized Jewelry stores in Oregon. I sold several to NBA basketball players, Denver Nuggets, Utah Jazz, pacers and of course Trail Blazers. We have no sales tax in Oregon, so we would get sales when the players come to town for a game. If you buy one oneBay, its not going to have a guarantee. Only authorized dealers can sell with a warranty.
I have 200 listed and sold 150 in 90 days. Can't work out if that's good or not? I would like to get to 500 items no more as I like to have control on my stock and I slow at everything. I've only been doing it for 12 months, so still learning. Your videos help. I sell ladies clothes
For the past 6 months, about 20% of my non-ebay purchases have been cancelled by seller. I was aware that they had the items on multiple platforms, so I strongly suspect the cancellations were due to purchase on another site (e.g., buyer chooses who gets it - cancel penalty, $$). As a buyer, I am now hesitant in buying from a seller that cross lists.
Keep keeping on my friend. Love your videos. To me Mecari is the best hands down but payout is definitely slow. BUT they have the sellers back unlike the others lol
I'm in the Uk and have sold on Ebay for many years. Sales picked up with covid and people being at home. However, now things are back to normal the sales are dropping below pre 2020 levels. I also note more people are selling in the categories I sell. All the new ones are undercutting on price. Many will not last 6 months but they will damage long-term sellers in that time. The new regulations where Ebay informs the UK tax man of sales will (hopefully) persuade some of the scalpers to move on.
The problem is we woukd all love to have access ro fast dell thru rate items , but finding them and having regukar accesw to them is the issue. You are in a good area. Here in florida all of our thrift stores hsve priced their iteks so high we cant make any money. Def cross listing thid week on both platforms posh & mercari.
Many resellers move to Florida to be even more successful. Garage sales year round and 5x stores. If you broaden your horizon and drive a little further you will do better
I have a source that can get me many AirPods, is there a way to tell if they match or if they will work? I'm afraid I'm gonna get ones I won't be able to sell....
Electronics sell pretty much fast and it is a money printing machine. The caveat is that it comes with shitty customers and you gotta be ready for scams, high returns if you cannot test them. Again, they sell fast but it is like playing with fire!
@@cjshortsnsnips Thanks. They are from a theme parks lost and found that get sent out when people don't claim them....but it's hard to tell if they are authentic or not
it was so many factors. the income taxes on used items, the sales tax fiasco, the pandemic, etc. the final nail in the coffin was when many sellers were selling above msrp. consumers left ebay by the droves and never came back. would you buy something that's used in unknown condition for more money than you can buy new on amazon with easy free returns? yeah, exactly. ebay's customers are gone. they wont ever come back after getting ripped off.
I haven’t sold in a week, before that I didn’t sell anything for 2 weeks, when before I was booming, then suddenly all my sales stopped, even in mercari, I haven’t sold anything on Mercari for a month… after two weeks, with no sales on eBay, I made 3 sales…then back to no sales
if sales are slow, there is probably an issue with the price and/or the item has a low sell-through % most people go to ebay to find a deal and some to find something the cant find anywhere else. on the latter is where you make a decent profit, the rest is all about price
so true about STR but im also concern about the weather becouse the post office is going to have trouble delivering with this weather im in texas but a lot of my sales are up north
If they continue to go in this direction I wonder if they will get to the point where they won’t even let you list an item that has a slow sell through rate. Or at least penalize you for listing something like making it cost you money if it stays unsold for 90days
I sold 9 things the past month. Usually I sell 1 thing every 2 months That is an 1800% gain in sales recently. However, I can’t compare to previous “summers” unfortunately. This is my first winter
BTW just as an aside to the google stuff...they don't really work is why the sales dropped. I have 3 in my 2k sq ft home and we have dead spots. If you really want a solution you need to one, wire your whole house with whatever your internet source is. Cable needs to be in every room (best solution). Two, you need a nice attic where you can place these pods above your living space and not cause a fire as these nests do get hot.
Hey 👋. Could u help me get a rhythm for ebay. I've had slow sales lately and started with vintage jewelry but I'm totally want to find better sell through rate items. How many listings do I need a day ? So I guess I actually need to step up and buy a ebay store so I can list more stuff. I need guidance 🙏. I've been trying to aquire new stuff and get back into a listing rhythm. I need to learn how to cross list
I think the market is flooded with vintage jewelry. Unless you have the best names and the highest quality, its a slow go on that one. I would suggest trying Whatnot to sell your jewelry. I collect vintage jewelry but have never had good luck selling it. There is just too much of it out there to make any money on it.
I've been on eBay for almost 10 years now. It's dying. I'll admit it, most won't. Just look at overall buyers, GMV, etc since 2015 when it peaked. It's not coming back, everything they try results in less buyers. They know this so they did promotes listings to suck the remaining money from the dumb sellers who stick around until the inevitable death. Question, I know many youtubers are being personally paid by ebay for these videos, are you one of them?
My returns are up bc buyers are too lazy to just measure an item of theirs and compare to my measurements 😒 Clothes vary SO much theres no way to blind buy and actually think it'll fit. I can pick 5 different pairs of pants in my store that are all the same tag size and all the measurements are different. It takes everything I got not to scold the buyers when they say it didn't fit when I say multiple places in my listing that they're gonna want to check measurements first. They're disrespectful because I have free returns but if I didn't give free returns then they would lie or straight up damage the item to avoid paying the $4.89 to return. Since November my returns have been higher than ever 😖
Two years ago I was selling 100K a year, now my items have zero views no matter how much I list and relist which proved successful a few months ago. Doesn't matter if I send offers, nothing I do seems to work. I have been on the decline for a year and a half. The year before last I had sold at this time 36K, now 21K and next year? 10K???
I am so confused on the shipping of items. I am loosing my butt on shipping. How can I go in and set a set price for shipping? I have watched your video on shipping and I have set some policy's. Help please.
It just takes experience. When in doubt just over estimate the cost of shipping. Look at what others are selling the same items for total and deduce your shipping cost seperate from your sales price based on that.
@@JrideFlips "In addition, Temu's Super Bowl commercial will launch on February 11. It will not only give positive publicity to our brand, but will also bring a certain degree of heat to your UA-cam channel."
I keep seeing videos of people claiming that they can’t sell anything, but my sales have been insane. My Q4 was better than the previous few years combined, and my January is looking like it’s going to continue that trend.
I have been buying Travis Mathews golf shirts because I thought they would sell quickly and a couple did, in fact, sell quickly but, the rest have sat like a big fat chicken on an egg. So, i certainly hear what you are saying. My own fault for making assumptions and not thoroughly checking them out before buying.
Oh, also for what it is worth. I live in the same town in Silicon Valley where EBAY is headquartered. I am going to stop sneering at their offices when I drive by.
Learn from others but at the end of the day do what’s best for your business. I’m going to cross list on mercari and eBay. I hate poshmark it’s too instagramy if that makes sense
Great video Jake!! My sells have been consistent/growing on eBay. But I do agree that it may be time to look into some other platforms, because it always pays to stay ahead of the curve.
I don't doubt it I can barely afford to keep my family in a home and food on the table. there is a ton of things I want but can't afford I can't even get basic necessities for myself. I have to sacrifice my wants and needs for my family. I window shop on there that's about all I can do.
The last two years the IRS tried to impose taxes on eBay sellers. It met with resounding reduction be sellers. This year they were going to see if the third time was a charm. But I recently heard they may yet push it another year. Eventually taxes will make eBay selling unprofitable for the smaller sellers. At the same time inflation ravages us all. Those casual "passive income" sellers" are liquidating last springs inventory and looking for at going back to the old grind.
People need to make more changes and less excuses. The irs isn't doing the tax thng this yr that wld be millions and millions of more papers they have to process they can't even keep up with what they have had for yrs.... common wealth did a good video on it. U cant have ebay as your only income make a funnel and make moves.
@@Amandahugginkizz yes, as I said the IRS pushed it again. But they're reacting to all the contraband on eBay. Taxes would force sellers to disclose sources. And it's an election year. The next three years aren't.
Everyone should have ALWAYS been paying taxes on the profit they make. I don't understand the problem with eBay reporting unless you are evading taxes, which is illegal.
@@matthewstpierre1434 eBay hasby eem sending 1099k forms to the IRS. So they didn't know how much your eBay income was. Few sellers selling under $20000 paid tax. What's new is the IRS will know what your profits are so you par or risk a hefty fine.
Ordered something from eBay that I paid over $200 for and tracked it to the point that the USPS driver clicked delivered. Could never find it in mailbox or on porch. This has happened multiple times. Anyone else have this happen? Any of your buyers have this happen? USPS people are corrupt, not all, but I have lost confidence in them totally. No problems like this with Amazon.
You keep talking about eBay moving away from Google Ads, so what is that Promotion percentage that we all add to our listings for? How can eBay be moving away from Google Ads when we add Promote Listing to every listing we put up on eBay. You're confusing me with this kind of talk? What is Poshmark and Mercari doing that eBay is not? Mercari only allows you promote a certain amount of items you have listed not all of them like eBay allows. Please be more specific when you're talking about this please! Thank you.
Why would ebay care about sell through rate? If 15 Pokemon hats sell per day, ebay gets their 12.9 percent on 15 Pokemon hats per day, doesn't matter if they have one month sell through or a 15 year one.
I can make a video with tons of examples. Here’s just 3 Make 13% more times per day Have millions less pages of software to manage Have less anger resellers calling them every minute of the day because the items are Hard to find resulting in less sellers using the platform and handing those problems off to another platform
@@JrideFlips Then why wouldn't they simply ban categories with terrible sell through rates? Like postcards and low dollar trading cards? I agree that they certainly want to ATTRACT more high sell through rate items, and do things to try to make those items get listed on ebay, like they have done with shoes, guitars and graded cards, but all the bad stuff is still going to be there as well unless they start shutting of categories. They seem to be dedicated to continuing to have more and better servers and are designing their own custom servers for their needs now. I agree with you 99 percent of the time, but this is one we just are not going to agree on. Great video overall.

So can't blame Ebay... but start cross listing to increase sales... its like having your cake and eating it to. The whip lash is real in this video lol
Our business performs the same on ebay as it does off ebay. We see a dip in the industrial automation market, then we see a dip in sales. What are you selling? It's not about ebay, it's about the market. Is ebay competing with Amazon in regards to what you're selling? Sounds like you should be on both platforms. Ultimately, if your business isn't doing well it's all you homie, ebay is just a platform. Maybe try starting your own shopify site if ebay isn't working for you. What's that, you can't get any traffic on your site? Sounds like ebay's 12-14% is a bargain for the exposure. If you're a drop shipper or something though it's time to realize that your market is on its way out, again, nothing to do with ebay, probably time to start a real business.
so you list 15 and sell 25 everyday? Hows that math mathing? Do that for a year and you would not have any inventory in your store. I get what your saying. I sell fast sellthrough items too, ive been full time now for 25 years. And somedays more items sell than i list. But it can not be every single day. Your store would shrink by 70 every week
@@JrideFlips lol ok. Most would counter that with listing more than the 15 a day so the business can keep moving forward. If you continue you will end up with 0 items listed. Which is great is after that you can sell everything you list in one day. Obviously that isnt typical

Why does eBay care how long something takes to sell? They are not sitting on inventory.
@@hp4415 - you do aware this is be a bad sample answer question if not so why be you get what
Great stuff, man. My sales are steady. Thanks for the continuing education.
That's a good problem to have.
Smart thinking on the investment 😉. Love your videos Jake, love the information you put out there. Definitely worth listening to.
158 listed 107 sold in 90 days, average net about $48 each part time.
Yesssssss u are spot on. So many complain and make excuses instead of oppertunitys and changes and wld rather blame ebay then make a few changes.
What if your things are selling really fast and well on other platforms just not ebay?
I’m curious to know what you buy new for yourself and family. For instance, I want to buy a Rollo printer. If you needed another one would you buy used?
January is shaping up to be my best month. I've only been selling since October though.
Same here
I crosslist everything and Mercari is definitely my 2nd biggest seller platform. I like the look of it as well !
This is one of the reasons there’s a decrease in sales
This summer I only have purchased from individual sellers, and will continue to do so.
Why don't you get bubble mailers from a more sustainable company instead of one that is polluting the planet with their cheap junk
I have 200 listed and sold 150 in 90 days. Can't work out if that's good or not? I would like to get to 500 items no more as I like to have control on my stock and I slow at everything. I've only been doing it for 12 months, so still learning.
Your videos help. I sell ladies clothes
Very nice! 👍
Thank you, Jake! Always great info.

Electronics sell pretty much fast and it is a money printing machine. The caveat is that it comes with shitty customers and you gotta be ready for scams, high returns if you cannot test them. Again, they sell fast but it is like playing with fire!
Be careful with fakes as well as with your source!
If your goal is sales focus on items that sell. Great information.
if sales are slow, there is probably an issue with the price and/or the item has a low sell-through %
most people go to ebay to find a deal and some to find something the cant find anywhere else. on the latter is where you make a decent profit, the rest is all about price
I also did pest control before I started full time resale! What kind of pest control did you do?
so true about STR but im also concern about the weather becouse the post office is going to have trouble delivering with this weather im in texas but a lot of my sales are up north
Ironically a temu ad played while watching this 😂
If they continue to go in this direction I wonder if they will get to the point where they won’t even let you list an item that has a slow sell through rate. Or at least penalize you for listing something like making it cost you money if it stays unsold for 90days
I sold 9 things the past month. Usually I sell 1 thing every 2 months
That is an 1800% gain in sales recently.
Can you show some numbers? From you sales from first week of January.
How do you research sale through rate on items?
@sarahlaster445 thank you. I had a 5k in sales December so
I've been on eBay for almost 10 years now.
If I list cologne, should I write 100ml or 100 ml.
Does it matter with the space in the middle?
I think I see it more without the space.
So what would you say to listings that get zero views? I’m selling a PlayStation 4 and it has zero views
I watched recently inresting video, ebay sells are pretty much steddy but last 10 years the number of sellers trippled.
personally i turned up in the summer stopped selling strictly clothes and started selling shoes and everything started selling a lot better
Only use calculated shipping as a beginner. You can use ground advantage for every single item until you learn the nuance of shipping

Have to be a seasonal seller. I go by that and I still make sells
This comment makes no sense. You have always had to pay taxes on earned income
Here’s just 3
Make 13% more times per day
Have millions less pages of software to manage
Have less anger resellers calling them every minute of the day because the items are Hard to find resulting in less sellers using the platform and handing those problems off to another platform

People go on vacation/holiday, ebay sees less activity = less sales. Come back from holiday, cries no sale and wonder why every year.
so you list 15 and sell 25 everyday? Hows that math mathing? Do that for a year and you would not have any inventory in your store. I get what your saying. @@JrideFlips lol ok. Most would counter that with listing more than the 15 a day so the business can keep moving forward. If you continue you will end up with 0 items listed. Which is great is after that you can sell everything you list in one day. Obviously that isnt typical
