    The Quilter 202 is an excellent choice, as well. Another information packed demo, Jarrod. Really enjoying this series of videos.

    I think the reason why the Power Stage is so popular, even when there’s better sounding options, it’s because it’s small and easy to install on a pedalboard, match that with an hx stomp or a quad cortex and you can have a real cab on stage while sending a proceses signal to FOH. Most people playing at home or studio environments will go full blown tube amp or full direct.

    I have the SD Powerstage 700 running Helix Floor (When I'm not playing my Mr Scary modded Mesa Badlander haha) through 2 Mesa oversized 412 cabs, it packs a punch but does seem to be lacking something. I may just buy 2 of the ISP Stealths to power both cabs after hearing this! Thanks for the video!

    I would love to see a comparison of the iSP Stealth, the "power amp in" jack of a Boss Katana head, and an Orange Pedal Baby.

    • @PSYRE_OFFICIAL
      @PSYRE_OFFICIAL 2 місяці тому +1

      Pedal Baby 100 owner here, I can't speak to the sound qualities of any other power amp on the market but I also have used the power section of my EVH 5150 III 50w 6L6 head and my USA PRS Archon 50's power section (both 6L6GC) and the Orange does well to compare. Some power amps like the SD Powerstage are class D while the ISP and the Pedal Baby are class A/B which is alleged to give a more "organic" feel that you associate with tubes; yet it is tubeless.
      Edit: For context I use my Pedal Baby 100 to power a Friedman IR-X tube preamp and an Eleven Rack, sometimes a HeadRush MX5.

    • @needsLITHIUM
      @needsLITHIUM 2 місяці тому

      @@PSYRE_OFFICIAL My reason for asking is because the clean channel on an Orange Super Crush is just the Pedal Baby with an FX Loop, and I'm a proud owner of a Super Crush. The Super Crush and Pedal Baby also have the added benefit that you can push the input to tighten things up, whereas units like the ISP just make things louder, or clip in an unappealing way. I have a Joyo Oxford Sound, which I run into the clean channel extra hot, and I also boost the front of that with a Precision Drive clone. Retains the usual low mid growl of the orange, but gets tight like an EVH 5150. I often double track that with the amp's dirt channel, boosted with the same OD, to rather good effect.
      I was just curious to see other people's thoughts.

      Do you find it loud enough to play in a full band? I read a review of the 180w Stealth where the guy said he returned it the day after getting it because it couldn’t keep up with the other guitarist in his band. Surely 180w in bridged mode is enough right? He also mentioned a lack of bottom end. What’s your opinion on it? Cheers

    On of the main things is that the KSR and ISP Stealth are both Class A/B amplifiers, while the Seymour Duncan Powerstage is a Class D poweramp. A lot of people have similar perceptions of what you stated regarding the Orange Pedal Baby 100 vs. the Powerstage.
    If you have the chance, try to compare that also to the Powerstage.

    The ISP power amp has been around for aling time. The big brother to that one i ran for years. I do like my pedal baby, Orange did a really great job with it. From what i understand, they made it an A/B class power amp with it. Not much in I/O options, a in for pedals and out for running cabs, no line out for running it straight in your interface.

    I have a pa50, no other solution has come close to what it does for me, short of a rack tube power amp. The powerstage with cab, waza tae power section with cab/laney frfr 2x12, ascr 12 friedman, revv d40 through fx return(thus sounds great but having the controls on the front of the pa50 and the size make it the clear winner) pa50 everyday all day. I use the qc and run no ir out of 3/4 to the pa50 and ir on output 1/2 to the pa. Great master volume on the pa50 too.

    I run a hybrid rig with a 5150 stealth and my quad cortex... I ended up getting the KSR cause I wanted a way to accurately run the pre amp captures from my QC... It definitely does that in spades! Of course it leads to more tweaking and less playing, which makes me lean towards either playing into my real amp or using neural DSP plugins thru my monitors for lower bedroom level volumes

    I have a Duncan Powerstage 200, it's alright- it's also got a presence control, which might be the frequency control you're missing from the 170 in this demo. With the amount of gain going on, EQ is really everything. Weirdly, it seems like a lot of metal guys would appreciate the quicker transients and less compressed feel of solid state, especially for rhythm work.
    I suppose the real question becomes, is it powerful enough, and does it work for you? The big drawback of SS amps for decades wasn't just how they sound or feel, but that a "50 watt" SS amp is barely enough for a coffeehouse gig, whereas a 50 watt tube amp is loud enough for almost any non-stadium situation. It'll move the speakers!

    The short of it: class AB sounds better for a lot of applications than class D. The exception to that is Thomas Blug's Amp 1 which shapes the preamp tone going into the power section with a "nano" tube, which acts as a filter and dynamicly changes the signal. Quilter does something similar, just with solid state. While class D puts out impressive numbers and does really pump out more wattage, it is not necessarily nice to listen to.

    The power stage is Class D, so it will never feel right or sound good because filtered PWM does not produce quality sound. Saying you can't hear the difference in a mix is a cop-out for using inadequate gear. The power stage can't produce the mids that the other two can and will easily get lost in a dense mix.
