    One thing I do appreciate about Brother Cornell is that he calls everyone Brother and Sister. A small but I think a unifying piece to an otherwise gap we see between White and Black.

      @@suffnthings4773 maybe look into history and see how much the Black community has been taken from in various ways. He just shines a light on some of the factual events of our past that can get looked over. Its not just to put Black people on top but it also helps younger generations see that they can be great and contribute like some White and Black people of the nations history who were overlooked. You don't have to just be an athlete or an entertainer to be a respected minority. You can aspire to be an intellectual. Its about taking pride in whatever heritage you are apart of.

      Jedon Forcet I agree for the most part, but when it comes to race a lot can be misconstrued. At the end of the day I believe a unifying factor is critical for a nation or country. Something like an anthem or pledge and I don’t believe that this man wants to unify for good or at least for the good of our nation

    • @jdf928
      @jdf928 5 років тому +15

      @@suffnthings4773 I can respect your perspective for sure. I can agree that anything to do with race can definitely be misunderstood. But at the same time alot of the disruptive elements of racism really wasn't all that long ago and he is a man of a certain time and age so of course his perspective will be skewed. But at leasy he will engage in a dialogue and ultimately here in these comments we can have a dialogue in a decent respectful manner and maybe that is the win for all. I believe America is great when it appreciates all of its differences from the good to the ugly. He isn't demonizing anyone but why not have positive things to say about the people he has come from that have been through the mud. He isn't asking for violence but asking for people to open their eyes into all of our humanity. At least if we don't agree on exactly what he says we have been able to have a civil conversation about it lol. I hope we can agree that we need more of this. Good friendly debates that rest on solid values of humanity and respect.

      sefp Hardly. Kpop doesn’t sample anymore and often times less than American artists. It’s quite often that Korean artist’s work is getting ripped off, as well. There’s also been quite a bit of collaboration between Korean and American artists, especially now. Korean musicians are incredibly popular but their profit margins are pretty low. GDragon is the highest paid Korean artist and he only has a net worth of 8 million compare that to Beyoncé, Kanye West, or Rihanna and then tell me how much they’re stealing from black artists. It’s harder for Asians to break into the entertainment industry than any race. You’re being petty, coveting that tiny piece the Asian entertainment industry has earned for itself.

Why would a black supremacist talk about things like this? Hint.he is not one. He uses a lot of the terminology that people on the far left use to slander innocent people but he actually uses them correctly and with honesty.
      Before I get accused of being a far leftist I am a white Trump voter that grew up in the inner city and understand black culture and the community more than most people I think. All the countries under English rule were subservient to the power of the crown in London. I think the 'cultural appropriation' view-point is a joke when it comes to music. You can't hate on someone who has a different face be inspired to create something that is 'technically' not theirs. Maybe that 'style' of music spoke to them on a deep-spiritual level? That's whole idea behind music is to share with others, connect and allow the unknown to create something better.

    I remember reading West's book "Race Matters" in like 10th grade. It hurt my young mind and then healed it. As a black youth, this is the nature of our psychology: destroyed by sensory revelation and healed by social structural potentiality. Its prally why I liked Obama's hope trope.... without hope I only had my people and pain...and a bleak horizon. I still do, but its conversations like this that remind me otherwise.

    Culture Appropriation as an offense is an American/Western idea. I lived in China for 7 years, If an American woman wore one of their traditional dresses they would consider to be a complement and not cultural appropriation. If an American or a westerner studies Kung Fu in China it is not considered cultural appropriation by the Chinese in fact I encourage it because they believe that their culture is unique and sometimes even superior

    I love Cornel West, because I know that even if we don't agree on everything, if we were to sit down we could talk about it in mutual respect, listen to each other, not let prejudice determine the course our conversation is going to take, and walk away from it with a deeper understanding of each other. He doesn't yell and he doesn't shame people. He talks, and importantly he also listens to people who don't share his views or have differing opinions. With Dr. West communication is always a two-way street -- not just sending, but also receiving, and that, unfortunately, has become a rare thing in today's world. Far too many people are only interested in conveying their own message, and have no interest in hearing anyone else's. And that's not limited to one political party, or one side of the political spectrum. It's not even limited to the world of politics, it affects pretty much everything: sports, health, science & technology, diet, just about anything imaginable.

    Hendrix didn't actually make up the "Hendrix" chord he just made it popular. IMO the barrier to start jazz music is much larger than blues. Blues you can start with a 1-4-5 progression and then expand. Jazz is usually more chords. Obviously theres exceptions and both are awesome.
