    I just found one earlier, the strong wind knocked out their nest, one was dead and the other survived. I'm currently working on saving it but it's been on the ground for hours before i found it, it's very weak and can barely open its mouth to eat. I'm sad it won't make it, but I'm gonna do my best. You're video definitely helped me with how to handle it, thank you!

      I have just saved a nest from being thrown in a bin, hoping eggs are still viable, I can't just chuck them without being sure. Trying to keep the eggs warm. If they do hatch, what do you feed them? How much should you feed them? Need to learn quickly, have tried finding help for them, but the people I thought would help told me to.bin them😢

    From my experience you don’t HAVE to feed them every 20 or 30 minutes. Hand raised some orphaned baby mockingbirds and from nestling to fledgling. As long a you keep them warm they can survive up to 24 hours without food. Just keep them warm, I have a chick warmer I used. Dying from being cold seems to be the main reason for death in nestlings.
    I work 8 hours a day and none of them died from hunger, but they were always really hungry when I got home.

    This is either good or bad. These birds are invasive. I actually shoot them because I have to have them out of the eaves. But they are also very intelligent, are trainable, and can speak. I have 3 that are nearly the same age. I doubt I have time to care for them. But when they die in the eaves it is a terrible smell that brings hundreds of flys.

      Underworld Secrets it depends on the birds age, featherless birds are ever 20 min through daylight hours. older babies that are getting a thicker food go to ever hour during daylight hours. starlings are very smart and will need a lot of enrichments as they learn and grow. the larger the cage and the more interaction you give them the happier they will be. as adults they are omnivorous and will love exploring new foods

      Palazerker youre right- its not the best. Some babies that have gone without food for too long get too weak to respond, so force feeding is temporarily necessary. When force feeding its important to know the body language, anatomy, and to go very slow. The first time i had to do it years ago i accidentally did. It should be a last resort. Healthy babies beg naturally

    First of all it is always better to leave a baby bird with its parents. That being said, sometimes we have to step in and help babies that have truly been abandoned or rejected. The mortality of hand raised birds is very high especially if you dont have a lot of time on your hands. It is a full time commitment. I raised 5 starlings from 1 day old nestlings to adult birds. The best thing to feed them is science diet kitten food soaked in water. Also Purina one kitten food works well to as long as chicken is the first ingredient. Also they love mealworms. Live is best, but you can use the freeze dried ones and just rehydrate them in water. Do not feed them earthworms! NEVER PUT WATER DIRECTLY INTO A BABY BIRDS MOUTH. you will cause them to aspirate. They get their water from their food. Keep them warm. Also keep them on a non slippery surface or they will get splayed legs. I always used hand towels because I could change them out frequently and they washed out just fine. It is very important to feed the baby birds every 15-20 minutes during daylight hours. You do not have to feed them during the night. Also use a pet bird vitamin in the food so they get vitamin D. And if possible they need indirect sunlight through a window.

    • @chatterlaneaviary3231
      @chatterlaneaviary3231  7 років тому

      Theresa Leggett yes i agree, always leave birds with the parents and in the wild if you are able. I have been hand raising small softbills for years, each bird requires different needs. I agree with the water in the mouth there are safer techniques to use. I dont agree with using kitten food this young only because there are alot of unnecessary additives in it that the birds dont need, i used high protein all natural dog food when they were older so im sure kitten food is great once plumage comes in and they are eating more solid pieces. Thanks for the comment, glad your helping those babies

    My dumb mean cats keep being baby birds home dead. Just found one alive and it looks like a starling. The one I have had more feathers and it's fatter. But still not big enough to fly. So I'm gonna try my best to keep it alive and let it go when it's able to fly and survive. No ideas on what I'm doing except for these and other videos. Seeing how vulnerable they are really pulls on the heart strings. I have nothing against cats killing and eating what they kill but these cats that were orphaned kill just to kill and it's hard to except that especially when they are not starving

      frderik justesen bread can be offered as a treat but it doesnt have enough nutrients to be a stable part of their diet.

    Hi. I found 2 baby starlings with just about the same size as the ones on the video. I've fed them with wet cat food and they ate. But today they aren't opening their mouth. I thing they are giving up. What should I do?

    • @chatterlaneaviary3231
      @chatterlaneaviary3231  4 роки тому

      Afonso Lopes you can blow on them or tap the sides of their beaks. If they still dont beg, you can gently open and tilt their heads back

    • @chatterlaneaviary3231
      @chatterlaneaviary3231  4 роки тому

      Gregg Tagatac yes a straw bc they are still on a more fluid diet. When they are eating more solid food you can certainly use tweezers

      Chris Fleming yes i know- however with these guys its not necessary their beg response is really good. If you ever have to hand feed society or zebra finches it maybe more necessary. And no need to be an narcissistic ass- youre welcome

      Chris Fleming ending your comment with “you’re welcome” is exactly that- assuming your presence is a gift we are privileged to receive and that we are so dumb as too absolutely need your comment. Communication 101. If you are not or do not want to be seen as one- treat people with respect and use respectful communication.

      At this age, they got infant food, turkey and gravy flavor with some desolved tums and iodine water to give them all their vitamins and make sure they get water.
