My friend and I have been rescuing Starlings for a few years and I feel we can never know enough. Your video was helpful to me. Found 1 just like these 24 hrs ago and knock on wood, it's a fighter and doing well. Again, Thank you.
I think mine's legs may have broken in the tall fall. I use paper towels on bottom but her legs don't really support her 😞. She is 3-4 days old. Maybe they will strengthen, i hope and pray. Her eyes are still closed. New to this. Hopefully she will live up to the name my daughter gave her. 'Miracle'.
Can I ask what you're feeding them? I found a baby on the road (no trees around) Just buildings. He would have died for sure. I think its about 14 days old. I have Exact but wasn't sure what else? I'm only use to feeding parrots.
The baby starling diet on Starling Talk is a cup of high protein dog/kitten food (I use blue Buffalo for protein content), a quarter cup unsweetened applesauce,a boiled egg, bird vitamins (any pet store) and a dissolved Tums for calcium. In case somebody else needs this in the future. Starlingtalk is an excellent resource.
What age do you release them? And can a single starling be released if it was around other starlings after its eyes were open? I'm caring for a baby starling that I've had for about 2 weeks now. I'm not exactly sure how old he is, but when I got him he looking a little older than the ones on this video with more pin feathers and open eyes (maybe a few days older?). Sadly their parents were killed (I had nothing to do with that) and there were 3 of them but 2 died a day after I got them. This last one is doing well flying around the room when I let him out, has feathers, but isn't eating on his own yet. I'm hoping to release, but want to make sure he has the best chance of survival. I initially tried to find wildlife rehabilitators but couldn't find any that would take starlings right now.
Please help me I found one yesterday that is this age roughly at least he is the same size and type and everything so far I was able to get him through the night with oatmeal and water in a syringe I don't know what to feed him and don't have any money to buy anything fancy I just don't want to see the poor thing died I think one of our cats must have gotten it from a nest somewhere
They refuse to eat, what should i do? A big bird ( may be a hawk) snatched the parents just today. what you think should do, they will die if they do not eat. thank you
Khiem Thai they need to eat about every 20-30 minutes. They will stop eating when they are full, just feed them a little bit at a time. You can see in other videos what their food is and how much. Never give them just water, mix the water in their food so its liquidy. When they are older you can teach them to drink by tappig a finger in a water dish
Palazerker it was the smallest... took me a bit to catch him up to the others. I ended up coloring their legs to tell who i fed bc they jump and move all over the place
mbjmbj mbsue i feed them really wet soggie dog food that is highprotien and some hard boiled egg and really wet mashed fruit. they really need high protien
Ya well who just let's a baby bird die? And this is America, we are all immigrants.. no different from the birds who by the way we're brought over by humans.
you really should NOT hold them like you do ... for feeding... should be like the mother does... down straight VERTIcaly down in the mouth ... NOT side ways like you trying to push ... Leave them in the container to feed them...

What is that food that your giving and at what age we can leave them so that it can survive itself.

Maybe for emergency purposes, just use your parrot food and see how that goes... After that you can google things and get more information. Thanks
