The real power of the JAMAICAN PASSPORT.

- What's so good about having a Jamaican passport? The real power of the Jamaican Passport is not usually discussed. Instead, people tend to view the passport as a document to travel on holiday, while in reality it can give you so much more. With this video I'd like to discuss the Henley Passport Index, where it comes from and why it has nothing to do with the real power of the Jamaican passport.

As a Ukrainian citizen living in Jamaica I believe that Jamaican passport would have been more useful for me and I am actually eligible to apply for Jamaican citizenship. HOWEVER, I will not apply for Jamaican citizenship until there is a change in Ukrainian law to allow dual citizenship (currently dual citizenship is not allowed by Ukraine). I will never give up my Ukrainian citizenship/passport even if such option was available to me because of the obvious ideological reasons and the fact that I am Ukrainian.

Here's an interesting fact: My husband is a Zimbabwean born Canadian citizen. He and I visited his home country (Zimbabwe), Botswana, South Africa and Zambia in 2019. He needed a visa to visit even his birth country and I walked in with my Jamaican passport to all the countries listed above - visa free.
Yuh know di TING! Had the same experience 10 years ago. Especially Zimbabwe rolled out the red carpet to me.
I had a similar experience, I have a US passport and also a St Lucian passport . On my visit to certain African countries, l have to pay for visa on arrival if l use my US passport $100 USD and when l used my St Lucian passport it was visa free on Arrival.
@@chrisc1881 Use your St Lucia passport when exiting the US and the USA passport on return its safer too.
I’ve been to all those countries visa free as well. Except Namibia, at the time Jamaicans needed a visa, we don’t need it now though :)
Many African countries are backwards regarding cross border travels.. i hear the complaints every day from Africans how it's difficult to travel from one country to another

It took a citizen of the Ukraine to make me proud to be the holder of a Jamaican passport. I am so ashamed of myself. I will be honest. Thanks so much for this excellent video. Very informative.

🇯🇲Am a Jamaican living in the cayman islands 🇰🇾 thanks for renewing my confidence in holding my passport 🙏🏾
I started traveling at 18 and I traveled within the Caribbean because I didn't have a visa. The tickets were cheaper and it felt close to home so I wasn't overwhelmed. Best part I kept meeting other jamaicas 🇯🇲so it gave me a little confidence boost to not be too cautious. And have fun.
Lol cheaper? I paid 1000 dollars to go to a virgin island when I went to the US for 300
Da woman ya a do good work. I’ll never trade my Jamaican blue book fi anything. St. Kitts and Nevis is a colony; not an island nation. So many Saudi Arabians have St. Kitts passport because that’s where they go to do their crap that they can’t in the kingdom. There is a famous case going through the courts in London right now. Jamaicans have a foreign mind, and we often see our nation as less than.
Such true words. The worse part is, when they travel they try so hard to adopt the foreign accent not understanding that an accent doesn't make you sound educated.
The problem is that we are not educated about the power of our passport. Most of us as Jamaicans only know that we need the passport when applying for a visa. Thank you for the info
Except for travel to visa free countries, what else would a Jamaican need a passport for? Educate me please
@@darkfeminineconsciousness in commenting on the video, I'm saying that we mostly look about our passport for visa purposes, when there are a good amount of countries we can travel to, visa free.

I've just returned from Jamaica and noticed that Jamaicans just don't know the value of their own country until they leave the island and live abroad.
Videos like these should be shown on prime time Jamaican TV.
Brand 🇯🇲 Jamaica is one of the world's biggest brands.... JAMAICANS START KNOWING YOUR WORTH.
@Random Modnar, totally agree. I am one of those Jamaicans who never knew how much Jamaica had to offer until I left. I have been fortunate to have travelled back often enough, and in such a way, where I learned so much about this (of course, Jamaica With Irie videos have contributed a lot to my learning also). If I wasn't married with a very young child, I would have already been making Jamaica my home (at least half the the time)...but it is my goal one day, to do this. For now, I'm glad I get the opportunity to come back home, and ENJOY what "dis likkle island" has to offer
100% agree !!
Facts
Real talk. Let them know. They don't know. I lived abroad, and I there is nowhere like Jamaica for me. I am a Jamaican
Exactly
I haven't commented in ages but hi Irie! Remember me? I was in Trinidad and Tobago before but guess where I am now? St. Kitts and Nevis 🤣🤣. A video I truly appreciate! Love me my Jamaican passport and my CSME skills certificate cause I'm island hopping my way across the Caribbean!!
"The rich know how to use the law to get what they want"....truer words have never been said.
Agree, that is the trick!
You do realise it is significant to frame those people as being rich instead of them being described as white, right? Even those rich black people have affiliations, allegiances, connections, contracts and are servants of white power.
They'll use words like "the elites", "the powerful" and even "THE man" but those people always look like members of white society.
I beg black people to actually not be manipulated to disregard truths white people CAN NOT accept. You are NOT white. Take the information regarding the passport, but it is NOT just the rich who have plunged Black nations into their condition, it is maintained by the mindful efforts of more than rich people....its simply that the rich just receive more from those efforts than the people themselves.
TEACH us Mama Irie! Thank you sooo much for always sharing with us!
Cringe
The power is relative huh. I didn’t even know that I could travel to some Asian countries without a visa until I moved to Japan. Thanks for sharing.
Jamaicans were the first to travel to back to Africa...into Liberia passport free ..etc.etc..,over 100 years now..
To get to Japan, did you need a visa to get there or a transit visa to go through Europe?
@@Introvertsan you need a Japanese visa and either a visitor’s or transit visa from America, the UK or Canada because there are no straight flights from Jamaica to Japan.
@@ONEBIGIRIEFAMILY so once I get the Japanese Visa I would then need to apply for a transit visa, right?
@@Introvertsan after the Japanese visa, you can apply for the visitor’s visa, for the US, I know that the embassy will decide if they want to grant visitor’s or transit.

You are more Jamaican than most Jamaicans in Jamaica and abroad, you do intelligent content on Jamaica, most Jamaican you tubers mainly on entertainment, talk show and drama.

@Christopher Stephen's, I know exactly what you are saying, must admit a lot of Jamaicans talk big, but takes no action, even when you encourage them .

Let's hope Jamaica holds steady on this policy.
This policy is nonsense. The same thing with marijuana. Jamaica should have legalized it decades ago. Jamaica would have been one of the wealthiest countries on earth. But, what did they do? They waited until other countries legalizing it. Then Jamaica began to run behind other countries. That's BS. It doesn't matter what your research says. The fact is, Jamaica is one of the poorest countries in the world. That's in itself tells you that the Jamaica policy is BS.

Great content, so appreciative. I have always known the power of the Jamaican passport, that’s why 30plus years in the US, I still hold on to mine!! 🇯🇲🙏
I bet you wouldn’t give up your US passport for it
@@darkfeminineconsciousness Jamaica knows allowing dual citizenship is critical. Most people want to work for the high wages paid by US employers and send the money back to Jamaica instead of raising the funds to start a business in the Caribbean. If they work for the government in the US for 20-25 years at age 55 they qualify for retirement income, their US coworkers will be jealous that someone can go live in Jamaica without restriction. Prehaps the money they were send to Jamaica has set up real estate and a business to guide Americans through the visa process, finding a doctor and other long term needs. If King Charles doesn't want Jamaica to go their own way, something will be done that will make it easier Canada, UK and Jamaica investments.
