Just think of it like this, when Kenma decided he wanted to dye his hair the first person he went to was Tora and after a little bit of ribbing, Yamamoto happily showed him how to do it and when Kenma’s roots started to show he offered again but it always takes Kenma months to build up the social battery to be around Tora on his own for a couple hours straight. 😂
@@good-qx5pm There's two movies coming out. While obviously it would be cool if she read the manga, she can wait for the movies too. Granted, the movies will most likely skip a certain match and probably not do justice to two others, but...

I'm probably very late for this, but I believe that acid stuff discussion comes from an OVA about Nekoma placed at the end of season 3 (I think)@@SarahPavanVolleyball
The reason Kenma dyed his hair was because he scared the crap out of Yamamoto in the locker room, reminding him of Sadako (from the Ring horror movie). Yamamoto said he'd stand out with hair like that, and Kenma hated the idea, so he went blond :"D Yamamoto actually meant that his hair was too long, but Kenma didn't want to cut it cause having a wide field of vision makes him anxious

Kuroo said that he likes fish because docosahexaenoic acid is good for you (I'm paraphrasing) and he's just generally great at science subjects so Yaku would sometimes use big words to dig at him. And tell us please, about the headband, you didn't like Tsubakihara's little bow tied behind their head, and you don't like Sarukawa's long trail, how would you wear it, if you had to wear one in a match? 😂
Okkkkk yes thanks for the explanation. You're right... I totally forgot about that! I appreciate that you just called me out hard on the headbands 😂 I would probably go with more of the Tsubakihara style minus the bow. I'm ok with the tails, but just shorter

12:19 majority of the time, yes. but daichi can be really childish too. he had gotten into trouble with the teachers after accidentally set off the emergency bell when he was racing with the basketball team captain during lunchtime rush on the school hallway.
I absolutely adored this episode when I first saw it, and I usually felt pretty meh about the non-Kurasuno episodes. Something about how they showed us the development of Kenma's and Yamamoto's friendship was just so genuine. It wasn't fast or forced, like Kageyama and Hinata. It was just two teammates who couldn't stand each other that ended up forcing the other person to recognise their skill. A relationship built on mutual respect and trust, even if they don't exactly like each other.
11:00 Kuro was sulking because his team lost a match and Kenma was uncomfortable with a negative Kuro so he offered to practice with him it's real cute that he was willing to actually put some physical effort to cheer up his friend
My interpretation of Sarukawa's strategy isn't that they are avoiding scoring exactly. It's that Nekoma's defense is really strong, so the rallies naturally last a long time. Rather than change up their offense in ways that might result in faster kills, they keep making the safe and predictable plays knowing that the long rallies favour their team since Kenma will get tired. Also Sakusa plays for Itatchiyama, the #1 seed that won the Summer Interhigh, and also defeated Fukurodani to take top spot in Tokyo in the qualifiers. It was mentioned that they are on the opposite side of the tournament brackets, so Karasuno can't play them until the final.
Up up! Sarah needs to know about this major info, also about Nezumi Grade School in 10:30 who is nekoma grade school's opponent whose spirit animal is 'Mouse'. (Nezumi means Mouse)
The science words were Yaku trying to insult Kuroo for his love of fish (which is one of the many, many things he completely disagrees with with Kuro lol) but he got the molecule wrong and Kuro corrects him that it's DHA (the doco-something something acid, don't ask me, I don't have the whole thing memorized) that's found in fish, not anasthaxin. Meanwhile Kai comments that anasthaxin suits them coz it's red and that's nekoma's color 😂
I love that scene where Fukunaga comes running at Kenma & Tora with a bucket (31:14~). It's SO funny & cute!😆🎵 Last time hachimakis (headbands) came on screen, she was against the ends tied in a bow & said that they should be fee-flowing "samurai style" (in her words) & I commented that most times that's how actual athletes wear them at Haru-Kou etc. But now, she's saying those loose ends are not good... I somehow feel "bad" for the characters with hachimakis now...😅 There were only a few iffy subs this ep, so just gonna leave a little "fun fact" type of comment about them this time: 5:58 A "zashiki warashi(座敷童)" is a kind of youkai (mythical creature/monster?). They take up residence in people's houses & have an appearance of a child wearing a kimono, with a traditional childhood haircut (thus zashiki = tatami room & warashi = child). They're mostly thought not to be malevolent, & that they bring good fortune/prosperity to the house it inhabits. 18:33「Aパス…E(いい)パス」→"an A-pass... Better than an F-pass". The Japanese version is a kind of pun, with the letter E sounding like 「いい = good」. I guess the translaters made it into an equivalent pun joke by taking up the grading system in the States (& elsewhere?) & saying "A is better than F".
A small trivia in 10:30 , Kuro's team were defeated by Nezumi Grade School. Nezumi means mouse in japanese, so... cats defeated by mouses? Tom defeated by Jerry? Yeah, no wonder our little Kuroo was upset!
Literally me too!!! A while ago this was still "members only/", but after marathoning through the whole entire anime (from season 1), this became available!
in case no one has said it yet: the "monkeys" from the title comes from the fact that the "saru" in Sarukawa Tech High can be translated as "monkey" (but only phonetically).
In the first season, when modern-day Karasuno and Nekoma meet for the first time, Hinata recognises Kenma and come to greet him. So who is the first to jump in and stop Hinata from “meddling” with their setter? It is Tora.
I'm here after watching the Tanaka episode and I'm so sad I didn't discover this series earlier. The commentary is so funny and genuine and insightful. I'm going to watch every episode. Thank you for creating this reaction series!! I'm reliving my love for Haikyuu while we wait for the next season.
I don't know for sure and I'd love for someone to confirm but what Yaku was calling Kuroo, "docosahexanoic acid" I googled it's shape and it does remind me of Kuroo's hair and that's such a funny detail if it was planned that way 😁
I also thought that the previous episode was my favourite and then a certain episode a few down the line happened. Basically this season does a perfect job in hitting those emotional beats.
I was kinda like Kenma in school when it came to team sports, but even from grade 1 I would always just find a way to run from my sports classes (I would only do solo sports) and I was successful at hiding from my coach 80% of the time without getting caught :) but now that my body isn't as fresh as it used and I'm less introverted, I kind of wish I didn't run from team sports because the few times that I actually tried I was pretty good and I enjoyed being with the team, I just didn't like to run, feel the burn or be in the spotlight 🥹 good for people like Kenma that fought the hardships even though it was hard 🙂❤
It’s because Kuroo's favorite food is saury, and in Japan, there are well-known supplements that sell the nutritional benefits of saury acid I guess. The chat about the acid among Kuro and Yaku. Anyway, I am happy to watch the reaction whose is really into volleyball, and know how it feels to be into the sport in the teenage, because Haikyuu saved my high school club life. Thank you very much!!
Ah did we somehow forget to tell you that Kuroo is actually just a big hot nerd who's actually awkward when you least expect him to be? Our Tokyo roosterheaded college prep boy from class 6 (or 5 i kinda forgot) and he's more of a sub-parent/caretaker for Kenma lots of times😂
Nekoma is one of my favorites teams! One thing I can say now as a manga readers, this episode has a lot of great productions which connect to future episode, as very Haikyu-ish😚💖
Cant wait for you too see some of my favorite animation moments, gameplay, narration, and emotions. Playing HS volleyball competitively I resonated so hard with it.
I checked the comments but no one pointed it out. Well, it's not a big deal. 25:58 Fukunaga makes a pun that doesn't translate well. Yarisugi, Dostoyevski. ( I guess it's because yevski sounds like sugi in Japanese? I'm not sure.) Sugi adds the meaning of ''too much'' in Japanese, so he's saying ''you are going too far.''
I am not surprised that Sarah went on the field to break an opponent ... She is all heart and motherly but to her foes she is a savage beast I wager. Not the person u wanna face.
You've probably already noted this and I've just forgotten, but Kenma reminds me quite a bit of Prince from the show you're watching on your other channel, Run with the Wind.
I was wondering if the teams' image of cats and monkeys has some relation to ”犬猿の仲 (relationship between dog and monkey = bad relationship)” in Japanese, but I learned from the Internet that in English the same word is "dog and cat". I don't know how much the author knows about this, but it is exciting.
i think its cuz normally kenma usually always has great receives to the point where kenma didnt have to move much as it always came to him. thats why his stamina wasnt a concern usually
I thought the comment about Sarukawa's headbands ties being too long was funny because I remember you hating the headband bows of the first team Karasuno played. XD
By scarifying scoring points does not necessarily mean they are trying to loose points on purpose but make plays which puts more stress on the setter than on scoring points and during the process they can gain points which is risky which the coach makes a bet on this strategy. So basically it does give them a slower tempo in the beginning but if played into their hand they could turn it around in their favor. But truth be told I'm not sure how effective it might be in a real game but this strategy is employed in high level chess and what i believe is this match is more of a mental chess as much as it was a physical match, is what the show is trying to portray is what I believe.
ok, so I'm a bit late to the party but: Kuroo says when his teammate mentions that the first acid is red and that's Nekoma's color so it's fine that "that is not the point", and I think the reson of that is that the second acid, the one that Kuroo likes, is used to regulate the brain, and who is the brain? But either way this is my personal theory
I’m 8 months late, but this is about as far from a “mistranslation” as you can get. A mistranslation is when the translator doesn’t understand the meaning, or perhaps chooses the incorrect word on accident. This was an *intentional change* in the line to make a joke that modern young English speakers would connect to. Was it a good call? Probably not, the Batman reference comes off a bit meme-y and takes you out of it. But I would hazard a guess that calling Kenma “Dostoyevsky” would go over most heads in the target audience. 🤷🏻♂️
In case if you dont know every japanese national competition the Home region will have extra spot and in Tokyo case who already have extra spot due to having 4x total highschool on their region made there is 3 spot which was 1. Itachiyama (Sakusa team) 2. Fukurodani (Bokuto team) and 3. Nekoma
and this is the reason why kuroo said earlier that he want to bring Kenma to higher place since he think the next years would be harder to compete for 2 spot
Too much pauses on this weeks ep hahaha and at the wrong timing too.. the reason why the young Kuro was upset was because they lost their match that's why Kenma asks if he wants to level up kinda like cheering him up..
Yeah I really hated that we stopped following Karasuno and Inarizaki just to get a Kenma/nekoma backstory. I literally couldn’t care less about either of the latter.
My obsession with the made up hair-dying party that was going to apparently happen... ugh 😆
I’m sure it’s canon…somewhere lol😂

Sakusa's team is on the other side of the bracket... if i'm not mistaken they're the #1 seed
Kenma seems so housecat to me. Never gets excited, doesn’t like working hard, just does things because why not. Even his eyes seem catlike.
Very interesting. That's really cool! I feel like there are no coincidences in Haikyuu...
2Am in Brazil but i need whatch this before go to bed 😅
I cannot wait for next week’s reaction.
Amazing reaction🔥 👍
I super love kenmaaaaa!! One of my fave characters!!!
I loved the predictions, personally
i think its cuz normally kenma usually always has great receives to the point where kenma didnt have to move much as it always came to him. thats why his stamina wasnt a concern usually
That chant "crush him" was on their minds, they didn't said it out loud
I think the word you're looking for is rival lol
ok, so I'm a bit late to the party but: Kuroo says when his teammate mentions that the first acid is red and that's Nekoma's color so it's fine that "that is not the point", and I think the reson of that is that the second acid, the one that Kuroo likes, is used to regulate the brain, and who is the brain? But either way this is my personal theory
Now that I'm watching this again I think Kenma's personality is kinda like Prince from Run With the Wind 😂
Please universe, let season 5 out sooner, I don't want this to end yet
I hope Sarah reacts to Run with the wind. She'd love it.
I’m already reacting to it. Almost done, actually. Check it out on @SarahPavanAnime
@@SarahPavanVolleyball oh, I feel a little embarrassed right now hehe I'll go watch now for sure!
binge watching all nekoma focused eps before the movie!! are gonna watch the movie sarah?
Sarah, the Sakusa champion teams is Itachiyama
Their backstory is to explain what is and will happen in the match
Fact: Kuro is a third year and kenma is a second year so they won’t be together next year😢😢
Kenma is my favorite character in the series 😭
Oh to find someone who looks at me the way Kuroo always looks at Kenma...
25:58 A bit of a mistranslation here. Fukunaga actually says, ”Take it easy. Dostoyevsky.”
I like Fukunaga a lot :D
Tora is the japanese for Tiger. thats why kenma was kinda embarassed to call him that lol
saudades dela no rio
Did you get those big black belts in the back from Switzerland?
there is more kenma back story to come
nerdy kuroo is 😍
Sarah! I don't comment much but has anyone told you you look like Gwyneth Paltrow 😊
You're thinking of Itachiyama, the one that has Sakusa. Not Ishikawa :p iirc
You’re going to have to stretch really far, because season 5 probably not releasing until next year 😔
its itachiyama
Here to bet Sarah cries next episode lol
In case if you dont know every japanese national competition the Home region will have extra spot and in Tokyo case who already have extra spot due to having 4x total highschool on their region made there is 3 spot which was 1. Itachiyama (Sakusa team) 2. Fukurodani (Bokuto team) and 3. Nekoma
and this is the reason why kuroo said earlier that he want to bring Kenma to higher place since he think the next years would be harder to compete for 2 spot
Blonde dip dye bros
Too much pauses on this weeks ep hahaha and at the wrong timing too.. the reason why the young Kuro was upset was because they lost their match that's why Kenma asks if he wants to level up kinda like cheering him up..
Yeah I really hated that we stopped following Karasuno and Inarizaki just to get a Kenma/nekoma backstory.
I literally couldn’t care less about either of the latter.
I also dont know how to handle end of the series with Sarah. God damn it :(
Gg next weak 🔥
