In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

A good tip for dieting is the sDiet (no sweets snacks spirits or seconds except for sat/sun). It's about reward. You get to give yourself sweets if you hold off on sweets mon-fri. I worked for me and I lost 20lbs in 5months. You need to give yourself a reward to stay motivated.

有志者,事竟成。I will resist the temptations because my goal demands it! (Not the official translation but pertinent to this talk) The old saying has an underlying understanding about human nature. That’s part the reason why some of us persist and achieve. Drive, goal, determination, whatever, it is a clear and firm belief about a certain future, that ultimately outweighs instant gratifications and constant distractions. The world is designed to prey on our weaknesses, and luckily we always have a way to fight back.

Now that we are aware of "desire" within us, can we question: what exactly is it and where does it come from?

The solutions given are only temporary ways to "trick" your mind into better self-control. One of the great problems with the mind that lacks self-control in the first place, is its ability to resist the disciplines of 1) avoiding temptation; 2) creating commitment contracts for said behavior.
Long-term solutions are much more difficult

What if the children that took the marshmallow were actually on a completely unforeseen level of self control, opting for the first marshmallow only because they were in fact resisting excess junk food and literally only wanted one marshmallow?

With the newest study, a better idea should be to use good habitual behavior to replace the bad ones. Habits are much more reliable than our conscious mind, which are changing all the time depending on our willpower at different times of the day.

Why not reference the original experiment in which three pieces of chocolate where offered now or a full bar of chocolate in half an hour? There is a word for passing off someones else's work as your own, which is essentially what seems to be going on here, and that word is "plagiarism". Still, UA-cam don't appear to have a problem with it.

This is typical wisdom from the “world” there is something greater! God’s Wisdom!
Scripture states: Galatians 5:22-25 “But the fruit (notice fruit is singular all these 9 facets are included in 1 fruit!) of The Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with it’s passions and desires. If we live in The Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
This gift is sealed in a Believer the moment they, from their heart, turn to Jesus asking for His forgiveness! So then we work out into our daily lives that which was supernaturally placed inside every Believer at the moment of Justification, Redemption and Reconciliation that comes from The LORD alone!

Maybe part of it’s the fact that you’re in a hurry. You’ve grown up on instant orange juice. Flip a dial-instant entertainment. Dial seven digits-instant communication. Turn a key-push a pedal-instant transportation. Flash a card-instant money. Shove in a problem-push a few buttons-instant answers. But some problems you can’t get quick answers for, no matter how much you want them.We took a little boy into Central Receiving Hospital yesterday; he’s four years old. He weighs eight-and-a-half pounds. His parents just hadn’t bothered to feed him. Now give me a fast answer to that one-one that’ll stop that from ever happening again. And if you can’t settle that one, how about the 55,000 Americans who’ll die on the highway this year? That’s nearly six or seven times the number that’ll get killed in Iraq. Why aren’t you up in arms about that? Or is dying in a car somehow moral?
