When you refer to cleaning out the bearing, once cleaned out what do you re-lubricate it with? Do you use the supplied oil, or "Rocket Fuel" or different?
I take all the mag breaks / centrifugal breaks off of my reels to maximize casting distance.
Will this add distance on top of that?
If I was going to this much trouble i would replace the bearings with serviceable units...only after i decide if 10 yards is even worth the trouble. Ive owned the original and newer version 350 Komodos, as well as the 350 Citrix. Dont own any of them any more. Never had any real problems with any of them, but never found a reason to be excited about them either.
Yeah...that is a definite bonus....but if its a new purchase...this will get you where ya need to be until the bearings slow down. They're great tools....just not long range tools. Great considering the street prices on em.
I cant really say anything bad about them. I had a citrix outlast 4 revo toros used for the guide service. Great reels for clients, just not for me. ;) Interestingly enough, by the time i tightened up the revos to the point that a newbie caster couldnt backlash them the distance was pretty close to the citrix.
Any idea on what size the bearings are on the spool or even the on the worm gear.?

Very informative video I've been watching almost all of your videos which are all awesome. Ive been using abu ambassadeur for golden mahseer here in nepal in himalayas. Im looking forward to get a powerful low profile reel and im so confused between tranx and okuma komodo no doubt both are good reels. Is there big difference between those reels in casting distance?I've heard tranx cast better than komodo. Plz help
The tranx throws better than the komodo... The abu revo beast 40 will out toss the tranx... Komodo has a non disengaging level wind that means if you cut your line and reel it in past the level wind you'll never get it synced again unless you take off all the line and re wind it.. (not a problem if you are conscious of it and provides a bit more even paying out of line under heavy drags if that matters to you... All the big low pros in the 300$ range are very good...

This is the same to me as cheaper companies advertising 10+ bearings, then you realize at least 4 are in the handle. Even Lew's, who I love, pads their bearing counts by adding 4 t the handle normally. For example, my BB1Pro has 10 bearings (4 handle, 6 body) and a Curado 70 has only 6 (all 6 in body) and you tell me which is smoother. My SS/SV103 had 8 bearings before I added any, and all 8 were inside the reel...
My ideal count for a baitcaster would be...2 for the crank handle shaft. 2 for the spool. Two for the pinion. Handle bearings are nice. as long as they are shimmed right. SO +4 there. And levelwind bearings are cool for FW. But not needed. I'd really like t see shimano add a bearing on top of the AR clutch an all their reels. It's not needed. But would be nice to see it instead of running on the ar clucth bearing.
So... A Curado for example has: 2 on the pinion, 2 spool, 1 on main shaft (main gear) and the +1 is a roller... My Daiwa Tatula has: 1 pinion, 2 spool, 2 on main gear, 1 roller bearing, and 1 per handle (8 total). So that is what you are essentially wishing Shimano would do correct? They might have 4 total on the Spool/Spool Shaft, but normally one have one with a roller on the main gear shaft? Or have I missed one and count is off on the Tatula???
How would you put a bearing there? Would be interesting to see that done.
There is a special idler gear for abus that is designed to run on a bearing.. You would not be able to add a bearing t the existing idler

I see. So it would have to be a special design for the Komodo.

Hey man, You talking about the non handle sideplate? There is a protruding screw on the Handle side above the spool tension adjustment knob. Loosen that screw. And rotate the opposite side plate. You may need to pull a bit on the screw once it's completely loosened as you rotate the side plate.

@@TackleAdvisors I just found your three yr old casting review on the Komodo... Damn it, lol. My twins 463LX arrived yesterday. One with j braid 50 and one with izor 50. I'll cast the izor first, then maybe I'll feel better when I'm castingthe jbraid, lol.
You what's worse than having a crappy casting bait caster?
LOLOL.....make sure the grease isn't clogging up the idlers in the non handle sideplate....that helped for the reel I had.
It's necessarily the grease on the teeth...but the stuff under it

@@gowrestle160 For me, it was the big plastic gear inside the sideplate that rotated too fast, (or too wobbly), when I made a cast. I just put som grease on that gear, wich made it not rotate as easy, thus making it smoother and not wobbly. The awful sound completely went away.
Edit: And yes, the big plastic gear that he in the video said he cleaned the grease off to make it cast longer. I applied grease to that gear instead.
How did you clean out the bearing??
I don't recall... Either waterpik dental irrigator or ultra sonic... Likely the waterpik

Lighter fluid works wonders then run em dry
