Nice work brother! I'm a fan of grease on the worm gear especially because of the hotter months. Oil doesn't offer enough protection and the hot summer days will really thin it out, but whatever works for ya man. Again great job. 👊💪
Everyone reading this, please go check out TACKLEJUNKY81s video on cleaning a baitcaster. His series is the most comprehensive out there and it has helped a LOT of people. Thanks for watching brother 👊 I'm glad to hear you use grease too. I've done it that way for years and not had an issue. Wanted to try it on this one because so many folks are adamant about only using oil on the worm gear.
As a mechanical engineer, I must say that you did an AWESOME job on this video! Great attention to detail with really good video quality and clear explanation. Kudos to you on this video and part one.
Hands down the best "complete" disassembly (see video Part 1) as well as reassembly and how to properly oil and grease a baitcasting reel video on youtube! I'm glad I found it.
This video did a lot of things for me: scared me, educated me, and prepared me. I'm a little bit intimidated to clean my curado (which desperately needs it) but now I'm prepared to give it a shot. Great video.
This has to be one of the best tutorials I've ever seen for a baitcaster. I have this same exact reel, although it must be a newer revision because a couple things were different on it. But for the most part it was identical and this help me immensely to clean and reassemble it for the first time. Thanks a ton.
I taken reels apart plenty of times before. I've never taken them completely apart as you did in the first video and this one. Very detailed thank you very much
Who's watching in 2021? I watched this not needing to do any cleaning on my reels.. Lol by far the BEST reel clean ect video I've watched to date.. Thanks Debo 🎣🇺🇸🎣
Great job on maintaining a baitcaster. I have done my own many times in the past, but just could not be bothered most of the time, so my reels get a lot of use and little loving. I should really pay more attention to doing it regularly. Must be 15 years since my little Abu Ambassadeur 2500c saw a clean, still does the job, but would probably appreciate a bit of loving.
I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.
Great video Debo: The close ups shots were first-class and explaining each step of reassembly was excellent. Your videos got me started doing major cleanings to my older reels. The best thing is the memories these old reels bring back to me. I had to update my lubes so I order a new supply from Bass Pro. I ordered Penn Precision reel grease and Penn reel oil. The grease is dark green and extremely sticky. I also got a bottle of Reel Magic. This stuff does everything. The list of uses follows. Cast farther, Reduces line memory, U.V. Protection, Reduces Corrosion, Reduces icing, Ozone Safe, Non-sticky, Anti-Static, Non-Staining, Odorless when dry, Use for Fresh or Saltwater. It revitalizes jig and spinnerbait skirts. The amazing thing is it does work really well for everything they claim. I think you should try it they sell this stuff by gallon so that should tell something.
I do have a can of reel magic. I use it whenever I spool up a reel. I'm really bad about reapplying through the year though. Thanks for watching my friend, appreciate all of your support!
Awesome! This is now part of my reference library. Like the way those bent tweezers and channel locks make taking off and replacing those otherwise iffy parts really doable. Great stuff!
Thanks to these videos I had the confidence to take apart and fix that messed up fuego reel I told you about. Put some braid on it and caught a couple today on the warpig lipless. Thanks brother!
Awesome video! I followed along with parts 1 and 2 while disassembling my Tournament Pro Speed Spool LFS to clean, oil and grease it. It was my first time doing all of it and it was very easy with the help of your videos. Thanks!
What a great video man. I’m new to baitcasters this year and I bought 3. I got 2 Lew’s and a Johnny Morris platinum signature combo. I’ll be using these videos to take them down and clean them this winter!
Thank you, this video is very helpful. I have a abu garcia revo4 inshore left handed and last month I dropped it in sandy saltwater, I send it to a repair shop and I still dont like how it feels. The repair shop try to sell me another baitcaster (very expensive). Once I get the proper tools I will give it a try.
Dand I grease that rolling bearing instead of oil it on all of my baitcasters. Anyway great video. I was hoping to see what you did on that rolling bearing but I learned a lot more. You are very thorough in your videos.
Thanks for the video series Debo. I had this weird tick in my lews custom black. Got the side plate off, and figured out where it was and got rid of it mostly. The tick was there when I got it.
Another great and helpful video. I do eventually plan on jumping in and cleaning my reels myself, but I can see myself pausing the video often to catch up, LOL. Thanks Debo!
I have a reel that i greased way to much and I though it way done for cause ive never taken a reel apart before then i found ur 2 part video and now i feel confident enuf to to it my self thx to u man what a nice reel this is thx a bunch
Great video DEBO! Thanks for taking the time and effort to put this together. I know it was tedious and time consuming, but well worth the effort for us. You rock!
Nice video, for the small pieces I use the Abu grease, for the gears I use Yamaha Marine grease and for oil I use REM oil. I never thought about de greasing the bearings, looks like I have a new project before ice thaws
Thank you so much for this. Such a clear and easy to follow video. Painted my reel with car paint which wasn’t cheap in the first place and could not get it back together to save my life. Glad I didn’t have to give up on fixing it and being out 200 dollars
Seems like all Lews have bad drag washer problems. I thought my reel was toast until I changed it out. And awesome video I just recently got into taking apart baitcasters and this really helped where I need to lube. Thanks man. I subscribed!
Amazing how to. Things to remember: go slow polishing anything with a Dremel or drill with buff pads. You do not want to create heat on any of the metal or gears. Also they sell a pinion remover on eBay. It's a must have if you plan on servicing your own things. Have a good one brother.
Fantastic video friend. Its really helpfull to have infos like this one when you are not a pro and have to take care of your equipment. I hope you can continue with your channel doing good stuff like this one. Thanks
The oil with the blue cracked cap is Lew’s oil, their caps always come cracked. I like their oil for all internal bearing that are not easily accessible because it’s thicker and stays put better. I don’t use it for my spool bearing because of it being thicker and it slows the spool a lot.
So last year I bought to ardent apex elites at a show. Just like a lot of people I look for deals and have a miss mosh of gear. I took one of those reels apart and saw the amount if grease used and was in awe. It was even hard. So I did a quick and dirty cleaning and re greasing. The night and day difference in the two was crazy. So I also have two rods I need to pick up reels for. I'm thinking I want to do Slx fir both but I might do an Slx and a LFs. I try not to spend really over a 120 on reels. I got another kid on the way so I gotta think of family first
It truly does make q difference to have a freshly cleaned reel. Both of those reels are great options. Yes, stay within your budget. I definitely understand how that goes with a family and kids. Appreciate you watching my friend!
I really enjoyed these videos, very in depth and informative. I’ll definitely come back to this video when I get brave enough to clean my own lol. Great video Debo 👊🏻
Good job explaining how it’s done But many people will get in over their heads Baitworks in Springfield, Missouri offers cleaning and repairs of all fishing reels and rods as well as Fin and Feather
Hey I've got a question for ya. The bushing that slides on between the main shaft and the roller bearing should be orientated which way? There are flat spots on one end amd the other end is round on the inner diameter part not the outer circumference. Thanks for any help. This is by far the best complete takedown of a baitcaster!!!!!!!
So with degreasing the bearings with brake clean, ive been noticing the bearings are louder when installed back in with the 1 drop of oil. Is this common since we removed the grease the factory used? Everything spins great just noticeably louder when freespinning the reel. Appreciate the great video! was able to finally fully clean all of my reels after many years of use. All are like brand new! ( using stock bearings still for now )
You must be an engineer. I a Pen reel Im going to change the cheap bearings to ceramic. Why would anyone expect Penn or Daiwa or Shimano to use high quality ceramic bearings for maximum casting distance. Great video.
Huge thanks to you bro , you save my reel ❤️, problem in my push button as it not coming back after starting reeling in line. But i think now i can solve this problem. My another problem is how to use centrifugal breaks on my cedros saltwater cj 273 lx reel. I can open left side plate and get access to breaks but can't understand how to increase or decrease, plz help me
Awesome break down, Debo. Do you have any advice for someone thinking of switching from magnetic to centrifugal brakes? I'm considering go from daiwa to shimano and am curious about difficulty of adjustments between lures. Maybe a video about it if it's worth the time? Thanks man.
I do have some vids on the difference but not specifically that aspect. If you're use to magnetic brakes, it won't be bad. The centrifugal brakes help a lot at the beginning. Sometimes with wind they struggle a bit more because they don't have the magnets working throughout the whole cast. Just keep that thumb control handy and you'll be fine! Thanks for watching man!
Maybe some reels don't contain identical parts but I just tore down and cleaned 4 Johnny Morris Signature Series, 1 Johnny Morris Carbonlite and 2 JM Carbonlite 2.0 reels. The c-clip used to hold the worm gear on, all mine had a thin washer that went on after the plastic piece and before the clip. Maybe Lew's doesn't use the washer?
I tried this on my lews carbon fire and I’m pretty bothered by the paint chips & metal smears on the bolt that holds the whole handle together, it runs smooth but now the bolt is giving me extreme anxiety & I just feel like it’s ruined now :/ making me want to sell my maintenance kit. Has this happened to anyone else ? Please help. In advanced thank you Debo I’ve watched a dozen videos about reel cleaning & this one helped out so much on puzzling apart & together pieces.
God damn, Debo... I love you & your channel man, but i’m not trying to do a deep clean. a) i’m sure if I took my reel apart, i’d lose something. & b) I just wanna know what spots I can hit with a little bit of oil and where to hit with grease. maybe sometime in the future you could make a “quick maintenance” in the middle of the season video. you know, a dab of oil here, a speck of grease there, etc etc. because for someone like me, that would definitely come in handy. because i’ve got a little squeak on my 13 fishing origin A, and now i’m about ready to tear the damn thing down but I wanna go fishing in 20-30 mins! DAMMIT, DEBO!
Hahah I hear you on that. I can certainly do a vid like that. No need to always tear them down. A quick clean may be all they need! Thanks for watching and supporting my channel 👊
DEBO'S Fishing oh absolutely man, I’ve been watching your videos for awhile now and we’ve talked back and forth a few times. the biggest thing I need to figure out is how to grease my gears (& what else I need to grease) and what I need to oil. i’ll probably have to get some new reel specific oil, but i’ve got the abu garcia grease. I just have to figure out how to use it. hopefully by doing that i’ll get some more longevity out of my reels.
Greetings from the UK 👍🏼 You made it look easy!! Currently getting into BFS and have the Fishband PW-100 from AliExpress. The bearings are covered in grease! while it seems to cast well do you think it would be good to clean the grease out and oil them instead or would it be better to try and find some upgraded bearings?
Superb tips on cleaning baitcasting reel completely, regarding that C-clipe of my reel Royal legend and black max I have to struggle alot to fix it up. It's not that easy kindly suggest or make some more video on c-clipe and the bush under neeth. This is one of the hardest past for me to refix it after cleaning my baitcasting reel. So kindly help me sir. Love from India

TackleJunky81 grease in gears only. Isn’t that the rule?
@@YankeeTankerOutdoors I'll grease other areas like Debo did in this video, but I never oil a gear...always grease for me.
The 2 washers at 17:35 are called wave washers.

Outstanding video! Thanks for posting.
Thank you so much for the video!!!! This clears up so many questions!!!!

Great tips, and careful to not over tighten the line pawl cap because many will crack.
Too loose is always better than too tight if you plan on taking anything apart several times.
Yea, most just have a plastic cap that screw on so far and many will turn it just far enough it cracks, especially if the reel is a few years old.
Absolutely, snug but not tight. Appreciate you leaving that tip for folks. As always, appreciate your support 👊
The oil with the blue cracked cap is Lew’s oil, their caps always come cracked. I like their oil for all internal bearing that are not easily accessible because it’s thicker and stays put better. I don’t use it for my spool bearing because of it being thicker and it slows the spool a lot.
Yep, that's why I got the less viscous high speed oil for bearings. Thanks for watching my friend 👊
Exactly what I was looking for, thank you.
You're welcome! Hope it helped!

Baitworks in Springfield, Missouri offers cleaning and repairs of all fishing reels and rods as well as Fin and Feather
I would also put some grease where the thumb bar mechanism slides makes it more pleasant.
Very informative. Did i miss a drop of oil on the black knobs on the handle?
I really like the yamalube marine blue grease from Yamaha. Super sticky, water and corrosion resistant
Nice! I haven't tried that.

The centrifugal brakes help a lot at the beginning. maybe sometime in the future you could make a “quick maintenance” in the middle of the season video. you know, a dab of oil here, a speck of grease there, etc etc. because for someone like me, that would definitely come in handy. because i’ve got a little squeak on my 13 fishing origin A, and now i’m about ready to tear the damn thing down but I wanna go fishing in 20-30 mins!
Nicely done sir.
Thanks man, greatly appreciate your support 👊
Nice job! How long you think that will spin?
Thanks man. I dunno? 30 seconds maybe? Appreciate you watching.
Great video and information
After you use the brake degreaser I assume you need to clean the degrease fluid off the bearing before applying oil. How do you clean that fluid off?
Wow! Great video very informative 🤙🏼
