I built the original kit back i 77' and to me an old fan it will always have true meaning to me. Regardless of others opinion. 1 have 3 of them. I finished the midrange kit and I think its pretty exceptional.

I built the other Space 1999 ship think it was called the Hawk it had three exhaust pipes out the back instead of the four like the Eagle had plus I still haven't brought one yet but it's in the pipeline.

I found with my 1:72 MP Eagle, the pod never goes together flush. Requires a bit of putty filler to seal up the large gaps!

Thank you for a wonderful review on these kits.I had no idea about the Brian Johnson items .you did a nice job showing the differences in the kits.Funny I had the mpc kit when it came out back in the 1970's while the series was actually on in it's initial showing.A lot of the new bigger releases besides being large have a level of accuracy that is amazing.Lou Dalmaso at Aztek Dummy and the interstellar modeler along with Boyd at trekworks have nice builds on these amazing larger kits.Again great job you showed these in exacting detail!😀

The kit from AMT seems to be the same as the one from Airfix. At least all the parts are looking the same. Funny enough. Well AMT and MPC may go together when it comes to exchange of molds (referring to older model kits!). But how does it come that the parts of the Airfix kit look the same. I bought my Airfix Eagle back in the late 70s/ early 80s. Did Airfix participate in the "dance of the molds"?
The new MPC Kit in 1/72 looks like a "just scaled down version" of the larger MPC kits. A lot of parts look just like smaller versions of the 1/48. And not just because it's the same vehicle but because it's done the same way. Pretty cool. And the fans "whatever they are" are from a German Panther model ...
I got an early series shot of the big MPC Eagle several years ago (with all its little flaws - windows, RCS-thrusters, sensor dishes). And despite the relatively young age they made some errors or wrong decisions in the creation of the molds which lead to a bunch of extra work removing seamlines and more. But apart from that a quite impressing Eagle since I only knew the one from Airfix until I got the 1/48 model kit.

I think they did use the same casting. And the new 1/72 does look great

yea I think you are correct that airfix and AMT used the same mold. And the 1/72 is scaled down big eagle and what I see it looks great. Thats cool that you were able to get a early kit of the 1/48
